I left mercer in april. Was there for 19 years.seen the way freight was going and found a local job home every night. Been driving for 40 years. What a change being home every night. PS when katie left it wasn't the same.
morgan, local job ?? So truck/trailer sold/parked ?? $20/HR local job pays the same as OTR?? Silly rabbit.
Notice mercer did NOT close the doors when you left💡💡& would be SHOCKED if Katie was your dispatcher, she did not suffer quitters. 👌
@@billupstateny9151 news flash. Simple tri axle dump truck work is 38 bucks an hour.
There are better opportunities out there
Do not park it Dan ,
The scale just wanted to look at little Bailey 😂🕶 I know freight is bad , but if you can still net 90 cents or a buck a mile you doing okay
be safe take care yourselves Dan
@@billupstateny9151if you’re getting 20$ an hour doing local then you’re doing something wrong.
My son gave me a Super Trucker Dan travel mug for my birthday. I hope that it puts a few pennies in your pocket.
That scale is there and open because Tyson Foods ( formally I.B.P.) meat packing plant is in Storm Lake, IA. That scale has been there for years.
Iowa…beautiful state and video
Hang in there Dan. Too many drivers (from COVID surge) these days and readjustment in what we consume and produce going forward. Shippers think they are in the drivers seat, that too will change with time. Change is inevitable and those that adapt will survive. Keep on trucking and thanks for taking time out to let us ride along.
China manufacturers basically everything now…even American flags
Shippers are in the driver's seat, at least for now.
Been in the owner operator business 37 years, working when loads are not plentiful and rates are lower than what you like is just part of it keep some cash flow moving
The problem is Biden .

You have worse grief from a wannabe dictator. Which the rest of the world, minus Russia and Belorussia despise.
I get that you are a Republican, all my relations are, but they draw a very hard line, if you get my drift. And I respect them for that.

All the comments wow. Quit, stay, park, run local lol. People dont get it. Not every one wants to work for another. He's an O/O. Its his own business. I don't think Dan's complaining as much as he's just trying to educate those who haven't ridden the tides of this industry. Just thinking and saying while loading in Minnesota.

Know exactly where Storm Lake IA is.... I deliver John Deere Lawn tractors and Gators to a John Deere dealer there. Right beside Walmart
when i was in Miami i'm glad i wasnt near the main drag, i hear its like LA, never sleeps and its loud. got there a day early and slept across the street from the delivery point. then i had to cross aligator alley, didnt see any gators on the road, then back up north to pick up tropicana orange juice fro some place in NJ. hated NJ to close to NYC.
Best time for gators on the alley is during the winter, when they haul out of the canals to warm up in the sun.
Miami is the worst place I ever lived was there 2017-2019. Got out just before Covid I thank God every day.

Theres a big beef plant in Storm lake, that scale is there I believe for that. I ran for PRIME and would grab my load at 2 or 3 am so that scale would be closed.

Passed you on 64 in Indiana last week. Hollered at you on 19 but no luck. Safe travels sir!
I got out last year. You know its getting real when you’re going to Florida to make money!!! I’m rooting for ya!!
We’ve all seen these dips in traffic, it all goes on a cycle, it’ll come back again.

Great video Dan. It’s really rough out here right now. I believe if we can make it through the next few months. We will be fine. Good luck and stay safe out here.
Trucking is hard on you no matter how good it is! 😂
@@tommythompson3588 True statement, however difficult aspects much easier to endure with greater profitability. 👌
Yep, we're still coming down from the Covid, everyone is buying everything, high, to 2018-2019 average. So there is a shakeout happening right now. Yellow going under is part of the correction, so a few more months of crap paying loads, question is, can you weather it?
Best wishes from the far North.
Yellow going under might have more to do with exorbitant executive pay during down times. Along with mismanagement.
I was in the USN with a shipmate from Stormlake Iowa. He was from a farming family. He got out in 1968. Never heard from him again.
The life of an owner operator...you've gotta operate to own !
A lot of drivers hauling out of Tyson's would get loaded and and couldn't weigh your wagon. Lol. That scale would be open at 2 a.m in the morning . Lol
Staying at home is not an option , you'll probably get bored within the first week and the bills will start piling up. Two main reasons to keep you on the road. You said it perfectly, we need to get the most of what the market offers. 👍
Elkhorn. ..Wisconsin. my home state. . Things are tough right now but thankfully I've a 2017 that I bought new but no payments for the last 2 years , so fixed overheads are low.... doing Midwest van regional we have seen s downturn in rates and volumes even on contract freight.. My strategy has always been concentrate on what we can control as supply and demand will determine the rates.. fuel has always been my main focus and in times like these , slowing down, not rushing all helps and off course buying fuel smartly not just when you need it... The market will correct itself and a lot of these people who jumped into trucking and bought overpriced trucks and trailers in the last 3 yrs will dissappear as they don't know how to run an efficient business as they came in at inflated rates.. it's all cyclical and the good times will return again. It's survival of the fittest and the strong will survive. You just need to do everything in your control to make that happen
Lack of water in the Panama Canal will probably impact fright tonnage again....
Dan it’s not wrong to park your truck and get a local driving job I got several buddies that have done that I see the sadness in you I know how that feels I was OTR as well I’ve had several trucks in the past but I finally decided to hang it up and get rid of everything it was the best decision I ever made I’m home daily and get to spend way more time with the family and I’m less stressed out than I was from a fellow truck driver to another think it over you’ll figure something out if you need to take a couple days off then do so you need it
Why would you keep a truck around if you don’t need it anymore?
@@luke_8027 you can always park it and wait it out and do local work until rates pick back up I’ve got several friends that have done that
Saw the CRST truck reminds me of Cindy 💡
As an afterthought, the adage of take care of your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves keeps you going while others sit idle.
Sometimes sitting idle, is, the best option. All depends on how you are going to play tour hand! And if you are allowed the option!
Thanks Dan ,
I know that not having a reload can make a guy anxious, but you keep things together quite well
A truck stop named "Sparkies" burned down... what are the odds? 🤔
Brother Dan, how about making runs up to Canada now like a trucker Rego she’s doing
I'm hoping for a reload myself I'm down in Baytown tx I need to be home this weekend so I'm sure I'll be deadheading home just north of Louisville in Indiana

Good luck Dan,
I think I would diversify if I didn't have any other options. Mercer got them vans you know.
Thanks for the video Dan
Chin up the trucking industry is a good indicator of the economy. Your professional attitude will see you through

Hi Dan, Teresa, Bailey, Coordinator and Viewers,
Working in Mfg. right know we are saying the same thing you are saying, but "THEY" call it NWA (no work available) and we are going day by day whether there will be enough products for us to work on. Especially since the recondition/service work we do are for consumer goods in home, construction, Lawn & Garden and hand/power tools.
I do not care what the MS news is saying, but the "R" word is here now and WE know it when it comes to shelling out our greenbacks!
Being that you load Deere stuff out of moline, kind of surprised you don’t load out of some other Deere facilities, Waterloo, but would be tough with a flatbed there. But Dubuque has industrial equipment that you can load on a flatbed, usually get some decent weight out of there.
Mercer, has to have the contract, to get it.
About parking the truck---Time is Money and Money Is Time 🤑
Yes , but if you are just wearing out the truck, for no real gain, go local and haul gravel, for a bit. Some money is coming in the door, and you aren't trashing the money maker.
Best wishes.
keep on truckin!
Hey Dan, just saw you on 95. Around MM 29 I was headed North, finally saw you in the wild. Not sure if your camera was on but I have a medical road show truck, blue people and white.
Safe travels wherever you’re headed buddy. Always a pleasure to watch your videos & seeing your truck in person was a awesome sight to see.
It is always the same, some booming years and then a big slowdown, keep it out of the red Dan good luck.
Welcome back my friend 😺 and you guys have a great day

I love your truck
Hang in there Dan safe travels 🙏
Yeah US Highway 20 is a nice northern route in WA State.A very scenic and very poor section of WA State. Yet the route in BC is middle class folks.and less arid. A much nicer holiday drive in BC.
Farm crops look good and prices are reasonable so that should hold up that part of the economy.
Hi Dan, Same freight problems down here in Australia, world wide recession looming.
Looming???? We are in it brother
Some are some aren't. Japan Canada and the US are 1,2 and 3, for lowest inflation. US is number 1 for unemployment, except for a few sectors, IT, trucking. Canada is still crying for drivers, IT not so bad. Do not have any info on Japan or AUS, open for info!
For inflation, whoa, some countries we thought where stable, are gonna go through a real $#][t show.
Best wishes from the smokey North.
Warehouse workers are in demand. Some are high paying.
I used to travel that area a lot. Most of US 20 west of Ft. Dodge was 2-lanes then. It’s not an area you want to be in when the storms are brewing. They’re angrier out there and hit a little harder. Had to take refuge in a car wash in Pocahontas once. Safe travels.
I've been through a few on I94, wife was with me on one, brutal, OAT gauge dropped like a stone, I told her look for crap blowing on her side of the highway. We were lucky, it missed 15 minutes later, there where a few trucks over, in the area.
Stay moving, work with what you have, can’t go wrong, sitting and waiting was never an option for anything with wheels, you’re connected to what works, no matter what, always was, always will be, it’s that simple
😮
Saw you yesterday going through Waterloo loaded with dispatcher brains. Hope things get better but.......
HELLO DAN BEAUTIFUL RIDE TO DAY BE BLESSED STAY SAFE !! 🐾🐾🐾❤️🐾🐾🐾🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Mercer needs to hire a better Coordinator!.......you have not had a good one since Katie left!
Hang in there Dan. I like your positive attitude, you always make the best out of situation. This is how it should be done, not whining, cursing and griping like some of these yahoos
Yeah, we have one I could mention!
Tough getting loads out of FLA too. Good paying ones anyway.
Generally, guys I know, drop then go to Georgia or Bama to get a load North. Unless you can haul produce???
I FOLLOW CURT TOO HE IS A GREAT PERSON GOOD MAN !!
We'll know you're desperate, when you do a heavy haul into NYC or LA 🙃
I live outside NYC, and periodically drive a car into NYC since traffic is nonexistent compared to 5 years ago and now better than mass transit. I followed a driver with Mississippi plates trying to negotiate across Manhattan (not so bad) but then he hit Brooklyn. He chose poorly and I knew it. I went a couple other streets so I would end up in front of him and he was basically past the point of no return at a 5 point stop sign with double parking on every spur. I could see in his face, and he was reliving every bad decision he had ever made in his life.
@@davidcarroll8735I deliver to the Bronx and long Island all the time. It's crazy how people are scared of NYC but will take loads to Newark or Massachusetts which are much worse. It's ironic
@@chalplec Home field advantage is a real difference maker!
@davidcarroll8735 are you high? Traffic has never been worse in nyc. No one uses mass transit since covid, everyone is in a car now. Takes me twice as long to turn my run as it did a few years ago. It's a shit show
You have to do, whatever you have to do to keep your rice bowl full.
Great video Dan I wouldn’t throw in the towel yet. Glad you found a load. Just watch out for tropical storm. Named Idalia I hope you can get in and out of Florida safely.😀
Thx for the vid.
Nice use of the adjustable hammer!
I think you're right about this not getting better for a while, listening to all the world economy stuff on here.
As I've posted earlier, Us is doing okay compared to most for inflation, and is killing it as far as unemployment, US is the envy of the G20 countries there.
@@carlthor91 That's if you believe Biden, strange that freight's so slow if the economy is doing so well???
@@philiplindley7384 Not Biden's numbers.
Top of the G20 lowest to highest, from latest in July.
1) Japan.
2) Canada.
3) USA.
4) France.
5) Germany.
6) Italy.
7) UK.
And it gets worse from there, much worse, in some cases.
Nobody is buying the excess crap any more, all the drivers that came on during the Covid purchasing bubble, have to be shaken out of the system.
I don't know of any unemployed electricians, mechanics, machinists, millwrights. Hell the local mine is hiring as many trades as they can.
You don't think other countries exist???
They publish their numbers, except Russia, China restates theirs every so often, when they realize we aren't going with the snow job.
WTF, we are out here looking at it all, not in a conservative echo chamber. It's in the Billionaire's GOP interest to have a tale of woe, for the rank and file to worry over.
A poll was taken recently, results, people where saying:
They where doing fine, but worried about others, as the majority view.
From that we can look and see the manipulation happening over social media, anyone showing worry for their fellow citizen is ripe for directing their thoughts in the direction that things really are terrible, when that is just not so.
So, I go with the numbers, not the BS crap they try to feed me. I have given up ALL social media, and look at the international press, contradictions, most often point out that someone is working in an alternate reality, not anchored in facts.
Best wishes from the far North.
Nice to see you in my area of the state. Stay safe.
Hey Dan try (Snap rings) instead of clip rings .thing You will find snap rings wont pop off , Safe driving .
When freight is slow you need to stop running so far empty and start taking the short loads, but getting more loaded miles.
Oh no sitting at home deadman in the water 😢😢😢😢😢
Alot of cab drivers are now driving Volvos.
Thx for the videos Dan, keep truckin “
Always positive. Thanks for the video.
Only the strongest will survive this!
I’ve seen them weighing and inspecting trucks at the scale at Early.
Florida is notorious for having no loads coming out... hope you don't have a 500 mile deadhead out of there.
That's because commercial Carrier gets a lot of the loads in Florida. In Miami most of the tile comes into their port that's all flatbed work. Tampa and Lakeland has a lot of freight, and Ocala has a lot of freight. It just depends on who you work for. I remember Dan got a load of steel plate out of Tampa at that New steel Yard they built.
Dan don't mind deadhead.... I've seen him drive 800-1000 miles like it's nothing 😅
I got yelled at over the speaker in Colorado for not stopping every axle on the scale and she never turned the light from green what a argument that was
Dan, can you branch out and pull different trailers?.. You could rent an RGN and haul oversize? I realize you have a payment on the Dorsey. I know you're comfortable in your niche, we all get that way. It also seems you limit yourself by areas etc? May have to switch things up while things a slower w/ Mercer? just imho

Hey I'm sorry I didn't know you still had payments but your hanging in there sounds like for the long run.
Hey Dan, yea you need to buy a Fox Tail, remember them? for those long reach to get places..
Thanks for the great video and ride and hopefully things will turn to the good and stay safe and God bless from GA
parking your truck would be like someone staying home until they get higher pay.😮
If it cost more to run the truck than he brings in- that's called bankruptcy!
Do you not comprehend owning a truck is a small business? There must be profit. Wife and I shut our 4 truck fleet down May 2020. Costs $1.50 just to turn the engine on. Freight was paying $.90 a mile. So you want small business owners to lose $.60 a mile for how long? Like a day before bankruptcy.
When a business is no longer profitable, one must exit the business. Personally, we couldn't be more happier to stop RUNNING OTR and not operate our own business. We drive local now as employees, make just under 100K each, home everyday and only work 4 days a week.
Wrong. Its like an average worker thinking they need 25 dollars an hour to justify going to work for someone to pay their bills at home. Then one day the boss says you're getting 12.50 an hour because work is slow. Are you going to work? Some people do some people dont
That sometimes work too!
Have a safe trip Dan!
In my home state! Careful, that woman in the scale house down the road is a wench. Hope to see ya on the road
I hear other youtubers say getting good paying loads out of Florida is a bummer.
Hi. How are U Doing?? Like the Video and Scenery! Thanks for Sharing. Why Say Freight is Bad, Trying to Find Loads When on National News Have Said Unemployment is Low!? Should Be Plenty of Freight With Persons Producing and Buying Product!! Take Care Amigo 😇💪😎
We overbought during Covid, all the companies over stocked, companies are price gouging, so we stopped buying, us older folk retired en masse, we aren't buying, ergo freight stalls. Oh brother.
Dan I'm curious how you menuver that beast when you have your axle up, seems like I'm always having to go up on the curb when iv got mine up and I only 270 wheel base!
Especially coming into mercer!
Yes in deed lmao, theres a few folks in here that just have it figured out smh
I am really curious. What is he using for the mount and recording from his windshield area? It sounds magnetic. If anyone knows please I'd love this setup and if it works for phones to?
I see you are running a CAT engine, did you get the truck as a glider and put in a rebuilt CAT?
Dan your not the only one having a shortage of freight I see dry boxes and refers dead heading out of Texas coming north thru Oklahoma empty quiet often that tells me things aren't good with the aconomy as long as Joe Biden keeps thinking that things are great I see it getting worst before it gets better until he's out of office it's definitely hurting our country hate seeing trucking companies going bankrupt and owner operators suffer because of this. All you can do is hang on and I know your thankful for having your rig paid for just think of those that are making those big truck payments every month not knowing if there gonna make it. I will say your an American patriot
Again, what planet??? Us has 3rd lowest inflation in the G20 group of countries. Lowest unemployment rate in the world, right now.
I don't live there, I'll trade you any day, except for the dumpster fire, named #45.
Dan, I notice you never get political on your channel. Probably a smart move. So, I will get political, not speaking for you, just me.
I started thinking about politics when I was a young man. 20 years old. Just married, bought a home, and a baby on the way. (born 10 months after I do's). Well, I got laid off of my job. The year was 1977.. A man named Jimmy Carter had been inaugurated President the same year and month I got married. Carter was a democrat and what followed was 4 years of misery. Then, a Republican became President. A man I voted for. Ronald Reagan. What a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Since that time I have noticed, whenever a democrat is in charge of goverment...I have struggled. With a Republican in the Whitehouse I prosper. Generally speaking. 40 some years in business, 30 years with the same company as you has taught me quite a bit. 16:45 16:45
