I fell in love with Uganda when I visited. I’m African-American (descendant of family from Guinea-Bissau). Uganda was my first time ever being in Africa. I’ve never felt so free or relaxed in my life. I was just free to be black. I’m back in America. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m no longer free like I was in Uganda. I will soon leave for good.

Yes, many years ago, the media in many countries use to portray Africa as a desolate place, only showing poverty , villages, and animals; they didn’t show the industrialized and beautiful places and many resources in Africa. I’m glad now, more ever, people are seeing the real Africa that’s very beautiful and full of many resources!!!!!!!!

Wasn't just many years ago. Up until very recent they've been doing a disservice at portraying Africa. Also, nothing wrong with villages and animals - maybe you don't mean to imply that. And industrialization with cars, malls and Pizza Huts all over the place, like every other "develop(ing/ed)" country in the world, is not necessarily something to strive for, in my opinion. Furthermore, "poverty" is not always poverty, but often means western comforts and conveniences have not been installed. Installing them, of course, has usually involved hiring the western corporations to do it. Anyway, it's true that we have been deceived about the true nature - physically, culturally, socially - of Africa. But for me, seeing tall buildings and congested traffic, does not bring as much joy as it does for many other people.

I will be traveling to the Motherland in June with my two daughters for the first time, we will be there for 1 month, so far we are going to Tanzania and Botswana....i think we will be adding Uganda to that list.
No matter where we people of African decent were taken, we all share our common connection to our homeland.
