Yeah it is indeed subjective. I think finishing and movement pedigree is pretty objective though, so I have to say there are objective things we can comment on, and those are not too bad in this watch. What is also true however is the hour marker to dial size ratio is probably higher than any other watch I have ever featured... and that points to an imbalance...
I’ve had a Fleuss for three years now and love it. 43mm with Seiko automatic movement. The textured black face with straw coloured numerals (not really yellow but not really gold) looks wonderful and the watch has been a reliable daily wearer losing only a minute or two a week!
Hi, thanks for the review of this Spinnaker. I've had one for some time now and like it very much. I got the stainless model from Massdrop for well under $100 shipped.
Yeah someone else mentioned $65? Now that would sweeten it a whole lot and for the finishing and Seiko NH35 it's a bargain... still I think I would've passed on it.
I bought a Cahill 5033 on a Jan. New Years sale. 43mm. It has the "proper" Mercedes hands, 200M WR, and the bezel is either acrylic or mineral with lume on the underside rather than the reviewed watch's gold coloured paint. They also include a Nato strap in your colour combo along with the leather. It seems they upped their game since the watch you reviewed.
The 5033 is has been around nearly 2 years actually... and honestly I'm not sure it's really much better. Check out my review of the orange and black model posted back in June 2017: ua-cam.com/video/Tj8X_5Zckjw/v-deo.html There is the newer 5064 model subtitled "New England" which is my most recent video too!
I distrust coatings on cases, particularly gold, though I've ventured black a couple of times. I actively dislike watches much less than 44 mm and there is no bracelet, so definitely not for me. The bezel and WR are meh, too. However, nice enough Seiko movement, decorated rotor and display back and reasonably priced so I'm sure there are those who don't have my prejudices and will like it enough to make the purchase. Perhaps the oversize indices are more overwhelming when the watch is in hand, but I see them as Monsteresque and not particularly objectionable. Green, though complementary to gold, is Kryptonite to my sensibilities. I have yielded to a temptation that I probably should not have and have a Neymar DSSD clone arriving tomorrow. I was surprised to see that they have an ETA sub clone among other models. If anyone of them manages to come your way, that would be a fun review. :)
I agree with every word you said. I love my Spinnaker Hull quartz chrono - with its sandwich dial, Panerai-summoning case, and brushed and polished surfaces, it feels fantastic - but this watch looks like somebody went to sleep at the switch.
38mm is an ok size. My problem with watches is the straps or bracelet are too small. I have an 8.5 inch wrist so I nearly always have to swap the strap to an aftermarket. I also own a 1970s omega which is 34mm which I wear regularly and it looks fine so 38mm would be fine by me.
Another great video! I completely agree. It just looks wonky with the big dial and thin bezel. A watch with multiple personalities. I do like the 38mm size though.
This watch would look awesome with baton markers rather than those massive dots. It almost looks like those Seiko mods where they put SKX dials in SNK cases. Just look out of proportion. Thanks for review. Cheers.
I think they need to slim it down, 14mm of thickness and 100m of WR? There are other nh35 models that are much slimmer, I think it’s a huge miss! Nice video
Appreciate the honesty, both good and bad, the new version of the Cahill was on my short list, but your observations have given me reason for pause. I am still considering the Tesei Titanium, which is more straight forward in its styling.
Thanks Sam, although I secretly like to think I have big muscular arms and therefore deserve a big muscular watch... think Stallone with oversized Panerai :D
I don’t quite like the design, but I appreciate what they were going for. As far as the 100m WR, it honestly makes sense with the vintage design. The Oris 65, which is a vintage inspired diver, has a screw down crown and 100m which is exactly what a lot of early divers were rated to. I find it charming that they did this, If intentionally or not.
Nice review, I personally like 38 to 40mm watches, I recently purchased the Spinnaker Bradner, which I love. So now I’m looking at Spinnaker more closely.
Chris Walls - I own 2 Spinnaker Watches. The Mainsail & the recently acquired Bradner. Both well made Watches with good value for money ( under $200. USD each )
I bought one by accident on eBay I thought I was buying the full size I’ve got over excited and think I got it for 110 with shipping. I didn’t like it at first but is kind of growing on me. It’s kind of small for my 8 1/2 wrist . If I would’ve been much more money than this for it I would’ve been very disappointed but for the price point that I bought it for I think it’s a great watch if I would’ve put $111 I’ll be very disappointed. I like your videos And do agree with most of your opinions
This is a homage to Breguet No. 1646. I do not like the style either. Gnomon watches brand evant watches did a higher end version with eta mvt. So spinnaker is actually a homage of Evant homaging Breguet No. 1646 lol
Good review - I have looked at quite a few of their offerings, but tbh find what they are doing all a bit odd - especially the Wreck "scratched" dial. However I have to say that their case supplier is very good. As regards pricing, I see them all over Amazon and eBay which is never a good sign. Nice to put a face to the "golden" voice!
Thanks for that - how interesting, when I checked on Amazon in the past usually there was very little there. Will have to look again! PS. there are 4 or 5 other vids where I have showed my face... not a lot but they're there :)
I know and understand where you are coming from with this watch review. Its like having other brand's future lesser favorite model series of today. Apart from that, I would prefer their panerai homage models though I have grown tired and weary with panerai design. Thanks for your opinionated outlook review.
Haha thanks for that... I'm not sure "opinionated" usually has good connotations but I guess I can take that as a positive! Actually I do also like their recent Panerai style Hull model... probably my fav Spinnaker of all so far!
hello sir, to me it is quite a good watch. it'll be great if they included sapphire crystal & bracelet for that price point. i love the hour marker size with lume that is big. easy to read. that's just my 2 cents. thank you again for this great video. cheers. :)
Thanks for that... it's fascinating to me how we can all see things very different when it's subjective. I think the finishing and movement are actually quite fair... but the aesthetics are definitely not for me. Cheers, Ivan.
I have one in black with red I bought last year for $65 last year on MassDrop after my discount. The major negatives are the poor lume, case thickness, and 90 click bezel. I like the 38 mm size though. For the money this was a no brainer for me to buy. The 42 mm version had the Myota non- hacking, non- handwnding movement witch made it a no go for me.
So all I heard from you was your personal opinions about the designs other than the technical specifications of the watch !! But what else do you expect from a US$200.00 !
You got the objective specs and you got my subjective thoughts and opinions - what else are you expecting from a review mate? 😂😂 And the bleeding obvious answer to your question is that I expect more because others have delivered more - duh!
The only thing I hate about Spinnakers watches is that most of them come on a leather strap. I hate leather straps and it’s annoying to have to change straps.
Hey Ivan, I don't mind the size, but I have small wrists so 38 is good for me. The dial looks a bit silly compared to the thin bezel, and the gold tone.....noooo! BTW, the handset is lollipop, Tudor used the on their subs back in the 70's. Thanks:)
I either give them away to family and friends, or sell them off... but I definitely don't use eBay, the buyer protection and fees they have are a killer!
Hi there, Great review ! do they still sell this watch ? i got very small wrist, 5.75''inc so i think this would fit me ok ? could u kindly let me know where to look for it ? regards !
I think I was the only person not to get bit by the Spinnaker frenzy of a year or two ago. With a 15% discount most of their watches cost $243 USD/ $330 AUD for a 100-150 meter water resistant watch with a NH35 slapped in a homage case. I always wanted to like them, but the price is a chortle no matter which way you slice it. (And not hating on homages here, I’m the proud owner of the rare and often respected Invicta 8926OB).
Good point, and truth be told people generally struggle with resale anywhere approaching even discounted rates. The adjudicated value sure doesn't seem to match the asking prices here! :)
Thanks for that bro... I really should like green and gold coz it's the Aussie sporting colors actually... but somehow this just didn't do it for me! :o
Thanks Greg - never even heard of Atlantic before, they're not too expensive for a Swiss made label but outside of brands willing to collaborate I mostly rely on friends and supporters to make watches available for review.
thanks for the review, I've had my eye on their Amalfi Diver for a while but can't pull the trigger....there's something a bit same-same about most of their designs (including the AD), they look great, but they look a bit too done-already, especially for the price....I'll keep an eye on the prices if they come down I may just swoop. Cheers
Thanks for sharing that... yeah the 43mm had a collectors display box I think, but similarly I wasn't too enamoured by the watch either, especially as they sent me a garish orange and black one!
Thanks for that - well I would say don't let me lume shot fool you, I think I make these look better than they really are - plus the lume doesn't really last very long at night.
Spinnaker is one of those companies that has not found their niche in their aesthetics and marketing. It seems like they are producing at lower price range among all the other micro brands. However, if you ask me, the biggest problem is that they have not found nor decided which direction they want to go, design and function wise. Just like this watch. I find a lot of different designs that was copied or borrowed, but unfortunately, it does not work as a whole. Thanks for your review. I enjoyed it.
Thanks for that Alex... well I find that their pricing is on par with many micro brands I know actually... take Phoibos, Armida, Helm, Neymar as examples. They even push to higher price at times with their more recent Titanium and Swiss models. Overall they do have a maritime or water sport theme (particularly given their name) but yeah I agree they do seem to be still experimenting with the feel/soul/DNA they want to establish.
@@PerthWAtch yes, I am glad that you also agree on their "experiments". Hopefully they can find their DNA very soon. Actually, they should have decided which direction they wanted to go BEFORE they started designing the watches. anyway, my best of wishes to them. thanks again.
Thanks for the comment... indeed it at least had a good automatic movement, and actually the finishing is really ok... but better than Undone? I think that would be a minority view seeing how popular and supported they seem to be...
That would be interesting... however if those hour markers were made proportionally larger, I fear they would become proportionally even more cartoonish!
Looks like a modded watch that someone put a diver dial into. Looks a bit unbalanced. Not a fan of this, although I think the Hull Chrono isnt a bad looking watch along with some more of their models.
I owned two of these watches. Both of them completely fell apart internally leading me to believe that Spinnaker is the worst watch company in the world. In my first watch I saw loose screws clanking around the interior through the exhibition window days after my purchase. I returned it thinking it was a dud and bought another. About a month after buying my second Cahill I noticed it wasn't winding. When I looked through the window again I was shocked to see the rotor rattling around the watch body completely free and unscrewed. I have never seen a watch built to such poor standards!
Thanks for sharing that Ray... yeah I think they just fail to put together the watch properly at times. The Seiko movement is reliable and made well enough, no doubt about that... but it's gotta be screwed together correctly. It may be of interest to note that Spinnaker comes under the umbrella of Dartmouth brands, which includes Thomas Earnshaw and AVI-8 watches among other brands. Dartmouth itself I'm pretty sure is under Solar Time, HK based marketing group which distributes various other brands including Ballast. So... it looks like Spinnaker has plenty of competition for the crown of "worst watch company" :)
It’s neither a dress watch nor a diver watch. A clear case of a confused company trying to please the masses, whilst probably pleasing very few people.
Yeah you're right it's probably on par with entry level Seiko packaging! I kinda thought that too... showed it to my wife, she tried it on and went "bleh!" :D
That is so funny. However the watch is extremely legible. The biggest mistake I ever made in the field of horology was my wife bought a 15 mm Gucci watch. For a week I asked her what Time it was. She never had a clue. She couldn't read it. I made her take it back. I get to hear about it every time she see;s me with a new watch.Just Shoot Me.
Very fascinating for me how this video has shown the subjectivity in perception of aesthetics... a number of people have also said it's ok, and that's fair enough. It just doesn't work for my subjective perception.
they should do away with the see through casebacks, give us a nice sealed engraved back with the spinnaker logo or something, they release too many different models bloody hell overkill
Hello....happy new year...it is 2022 jan....well it is still pandemic...stay safe......well nice review...but love that looks....if you really don't like that watch...you can donate it to me...would love to wear it everyday in the hospital...a new watch is an excited to have and use everyday...hehehe....as a watch vlogger guess you have a lots already....hahaha...well if you have lots of watch just around send it to me in Manila...hahaha...thanks in advance. Don't have that brand yet. More power to your channel.
A 38mm-40mm would be a-okay for my wrist, but that watch face looks horrendous. It looks like it is made of some kind of porous card that has ink printed on it.
Hahaha I see what you mean, although I actually don't mind the texture dial they chose... it's more the proportions of the dial design that kills it for me!
It's a terrible looking watch. Spinnaker's a strange brand. I can't put my finger on it but for some reason I find myself REALLY wanting to like their product. That said, I can never convince myself to buy one. There's something tha nags me enough to turn me off of every single model. :-/
It's not my thing either. Ha, kind of the opposite end of the sepctrum in that the hour pips look too SMALL on that one. I like batons far more than pips which sort of crowds me out of most divers as they seek to evoke Submariners. :-/ For instance I'm wearing a Mako II as I type this. That said, I just went to Spinnaker's website and that new Spence might be worth a look. Love than channel, thanks for taking the time.
It really is...your complaints are that the size isn’t to your liking, and that the oversized indices look silly to you. Ok, it’s not the watch for you, but these aspects are front and center for interested customers. Why did you buy it in the first place smh. From the title I expected a quality issue or misleading promotions, turns out you’re the one misleading us.
Do NOT buy anything from this company! They ship out defective product and then their customer service will not help. I was so looking forward to receiving and wearing the watch. Now I own a $300 piece of trash.
The size and weight is good. The indices are very big. But it should have a saphire glas. Wouldn't pay more than 120 Dollars or Euro.
It’s the worst watch ever :)
@@PerthWAtch No, it is not the worst watch ever.
Yes, it is.
I nearly bought this watch last week, £120 in the UK. The look of the watch is like anything else " subjective" I quite like it.

Perth WAtch I think the style of the watch is important. My 34mm is a dress watch so it looks fine. Great video, looking forward to the next one
Thanks for the support :)
Another great video! I completely agree. It just looks wonky with the big dial and thin bezel. A watch with multiple personalities. I do like the 38mm size though.
Thanks for that, appreciate the positive feedback! Haha, multiple personalities - that's a theme that's coming through here :)
I got a Vincero Watches ad before the start of this video. I love the irony.
Hahaha that's nice... life is full of ironies :)
Lol the worst watch ever...I have seen the Vincero Range in Hong Kong prior to branding $5
Sounds like a markup
This watch would look awesome with baton markers rather than those massive dots. It almost looks like those Seiko mods where they put SKX dials in SNK cases. Just look out of proportion.
Thanks for review. Cheers.
Haha thanks - yes totally agree, batons or even just smaller circles would be better!
I think they need to slim it down, 14mm of thickness and 100m of WR? There are other nh35 models that are much slimmer, I think it’s a huge miss! Nice video
Yep, slim it down and fix the 4-5 other major issues and it might get to being passable 😆
I have the Fleuss, a Fifty Fantoms-style Diver. It is a big improvement over this older model. It has sapphire and 150m wr.
Yeah it totally does seem to be an improvement all over... I have that model coming next month for review :)
Fathoms not Fantoms
I like the 38mm size. I agree with you on the markers, they look kind of ridiculous..

I would go for this size, but not this style. For me, I have a very small wrist. 38mm is my ideal case size, or in some cases 36mm.
Yeah fair enough for small wrists, but if so probably best not go for a Diver as it would be hard to find in this size!
indeed, though the diver style is what I am most attracted to. That's one reason Omega are on my list as they still make reasonable sized divers.

Can replace.
The only thing I hate about Spinnakers watches is that most of them come on a leather strap. I hate leather straps and it’s annoying to have to change straps.
They used to... the newer ones are coming on steel bracelets more nowadays.
Thank you for the information
The hour markers are cartoonish otherwise not terrible. There are people who may like the size but I prefer 40-44 for divers
Thanks for that... yeah my dislike stems mainly from subjective issues. Objectively it's as good/bad as most any other Spinnaker :)
the thin bezel and golden accents give it a somewhat refined look. The hour markings are the total opposite. One confused watch

Better than Undone. At least it’s not an overpriced quartz SHITTER!
Thanks for the comment... indeed it at least had a good automatic movement, and actually the finishing is really ok... but better than Undone? I think that would be a minority view seeing how popular and supported they seem to be...
IF it were the full-sized version, and on an Green Leather (Alligator style) Strap, it would be so cool, but the mid-size is too damn small....
That would be interesting... however if those hour markers were made proportionally larger, I fear they would become proportionally even more cartoonish!
That's part of the charm when you're wearing something that audacious, it would look good on me!
Looks like a modded watch that someone put a diver dial into. Looks a bit unbalanced. Not a fan of this, although I think the Hull Chrono isnt a bad looking watch along with some more of their models.
Yes, not a good looker... hence the choice of thumbnail design here
What an oddball watch!! Great video!!
Thanks for that! Some others don't mind it but it's not my cup of tea :)
Any thoughts on the Spinnaker Fleuss?
Got it in hand but haven't reviewed it... probably will do it next month :)
I think it looks fantastic.
Thanks for sharing
Hahaha probably not quite the adjective I would use, but I get the point :)
You are correct it's not a dress watch nor a Diver's watch and looking at it I would never buy that watch
When I first looked at this watch I thought of the Seiko bottle cap
Probably the colorway is similar to one of the bottle cap models, but little else I think...
Thanks Ivan good review 👍😀
Thanks for that James :)
The box is as good as Seiko Boxes and the watch small presence would be great for a woman. Great review and thanks for sharing.
Hahaha your story is funnier than mine for sure I have to say, that's a classic :)
not that bad in my own view 😌 i quite like it
Very fascinating for me how this video has shown the subjectivity in perception of aesthetics... a number of people have also said it's ok, and that's fair enough. It just doesn't work for my subjective perception.
The indices are far to big for the dial
Yes they are!
This watch us very nice.
Great vid by the way.
Thanks man :)
I owned one within 3 weeks the 6 at the 6 o'clock fell off
That’s not good
Go to the website Spinnaker-watches.com. Its C3 luminova on the 43mm. 200m water resist.
Hi Bro , first time see your real face. 😎😎😎
Haha well actually there are about 5 or 6 other videos where I've shown my face... not often but they're there :)
Thanks for that review - it's certainly different!!!
Haha thanks... I guess "different" would be a fair adjective :)
I was considering buying the Spinnaker Spence but man, after watching this video, I don’t want a single watch from Spinnaker. Looks cheap!!
Haha well to be honest they are not all bad, the Hull model for instance I think I'll be keeping :)
You are too hard on this watch.
Some might say I'm too soft ;)
they should do away with the see through casebacks, give us a nice sealed engraved back with the spinnaker logo or something, they release too many different models bloody hell overkill
Yes agreed!
Very nice watch
Hahaha
Hello....happy new year...it is 2022 jan....well it is still pandemic...stay safe......well nice review...but love that looks....if you really don't like that watch...you can donate it to me...would love to wear it everyday in the hospital...a new watch is an excited to have and use everyday...hehehe....as a watch vlogger guess you have a lots already....hahaha...well if you have lots of watch just around send it to me in Manila...hahaha...thanks in advance. Don't have that brand yet. More power to your channel.
Nice try mate… but I need a reason to donate things. Overall better I just sell these and put the money to better use. All the best ;)
Thanks for the comment - what do you think of the Spinnaker Hull? I thought that was one of their best looking ones yet and I'm keeping that one.
Clickbait title
Very astute ;)
It really is...your complaints are that the size isn’t to your liking, and that the oversized indices look silly to you. Ok, it’s not the watch for you, but these aspects are front and center for interested customers. Why did you buy it in the first place smh. From the title I expected a quality issue or misleading promotions, turns out you’re the one misleading us.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Why do you assume I bought this? SMH.
It’s the worst ever... that’s my view. It’s ok if you have a different view ;)
I love that watch!!!
Did you end up buying it?
Nope, there are better watches out there though!!!
38mm is perfect
Sure, but the watch isn’t ;)
The WORST, Spinnaker.....
Looks okay. Perfectly fine, of you like the look of it.
Yep WORST.
Made you look ;)
Yoo did :)
Do NOT buy anything from this company! They ship out defective product and then their customer service will not help. I was so looking forward to receiving and wearing the watch. Now I own a $300 piece of trash.
Sorry to hear that mate!
*worst
Haha yeah that's correct... but it just doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely. What do you think of worsest? :)
did not like, circles are too near
Me too! ;)
@@PerthWAtch are you japanese, korean or chinese? btw,the clock isn`t ugly.
Interesting... why do you ask?
@@PerthWAtch curiosity,but i am straight ahahaha
Hahaha I wasn't thinking otherwise! I'm Chinese.
gee whiz that's pretty ugly. spinnakers are a lot nicer these days.
Yes indeed, they improved on my feedback :)
You get what you pay for. 😂
In this case you get less 😂
Worst. Not worse.
Well spotted! But "worst" just doesn't roll off the tongue very well at all... what about "worsest"? ;)
Perth WAtch I hate to be a stickler, but I believe worstest is properer.
Admittedly I agree with you! :D
시발 존나 이쁘네
Thank you - I guess it's subjective :)
Spinnaker watches are trash
How about "toxic waste" in keeping with the green motif here? :)
Perth WAtch lol, sure ;)
'worst' watch. And cache is pronounced cash not chash aye. Lol
Worst is correct ;)
Cache - I dunno, many people around here say it with two syllables... but hey you got the idea, so all is cool!
*worst
Yes
