      Thanks. I guess I found the title a little misleading. I thought this would be a video on how to choose the best motor for different applications, and how choosing different motor characteristics (e.g. KV, torque, wattage, stator diameter and length, etc) would affect a build, but rather it was about how to choose the best quality motor. Maybe the title should be "How to Choose the best quality electric skateboard motor"

    Problem is your motor cost exactly twice then a "cheap" motor. So if you have the 2 (same power rated) motors at same power then you have half the heat so less insulation is enough, lower quality magnets are enough. Lower quality glue is enough. Well you can put a bit more glue in your motor an put a flexible wire at the end of you motors.

    This quite an informative video. I have seen failed motors where the magnets weren't glued well inside and yeah, not happy for the user when they're in the middle of a ride and pop goes the motor and they find a mess inside

    Enertion electric Skateboards, Is it possible that I connect 2 laptop battery together ? They are 5200mah each and 11.1V and 3S. If I combine 2 of them together in series, I will have 6S and 22.2V. And each laptop battery have their own BMS. So I can buy tons of laptop battery pack and external battery dock to charge it at home. So every time I need to drive I just change the battery and put 2 new in. Because the board is already heavy I want to put some of the battery in my pack bag too.
    2 question:
    Is it possible to series 2 laptop battery and no worry the BMS inside it ?
    Do you think 6S li ion battery can runs dual motors ?

      +Enertion Electric Skateboards sweet thanks for the link. it helped me understand everything better. in thinking about using a gearbox for extra torque for hills and such because in the yard they are steep and I only need around 5mph or so top speed. I think I agree with you on the lipo or lifepo batteries after watching the safety tests and they seem just as safe as any other setup but with added benefit.

    The thing about the false economy of cheapo parts is that they get your boat in the water cheaper, which for many people means faster.
    If I have to shell out $1000 just to get started, that'll never happen. If I cheap out on everything and diy where I can, it looks like I can get riding for 1/3 of that price.
    Then, when things break, and I believe they will, I can fix as I go. I can decide if I want to bump up the quality or keep burning out cheapo parts. Many of the cheapo parts may last surprisingly well. Many of the quality parts may come down in price during the time I am enjoying my cheapos. Who knows, I may give up the hobby quickly.
    Buying quality items over cheapos is game of balance, and an experienced diy'er should look long and hard at the costs and benefits of the false economy.

    The Enertion setup looks great but I couldn't understand the costs. Adding up all you need it's way more than say a Boosted board where you are getting top of the line deck, wheels, trucks, regenerative braking, built in charger all ready made.

    • @marccawood
      @marccawood 9 років тому

      Cool. A lot of longboarders like me have boards, trucks (calibers) and even wheels (kegel, flywheels) compatible with a lot of drive+electric systems out there but when you add it up you fall like 50-100 bucks short of a fully electric longboard which is a problem for us and maybe an opportunity for you?

    • @marccawood
      @marccawood 9 років тому +1

      ***** I'm thinking the DIY version should be significantly (30-40%) cheaper than the built version because a) a large portion of the cost of a built board is the labor and b) a DIY board lacks several features of a built board (built-in charger, sealed housing, protected motor and belt, led displays). If riders already have the deck, trucks and wheels they should be able to add drive, motor, ESC, battery and TX/RX for around 500 USD considering a Yuneec E-Go complete costs around 700 and a complete Boosted around 1200.

    • @marccawood
      @marccawood 9 років тому

      ***** Completely agree. However if a complete eBoard from company X with good components costs 1200 (e.g. Evolve, Boosted) then it should be possible to get the components (minus deck, trucks, wheels) from company X (same economies of scale) for around 600-800 because of the above reasons. It cannot be that I buy all the parts, supply my own deck, wheels and trucks and come to 1100.

    Hey buddy your goodies are awesome but they are too expensive cause of the quality. I have a question that I was a 270kv motor which can be operated with 3s to 8s lipo's so does it make any difference if run it on 11.1v and 22.2v I mean the efficiency will be same or different. Thank you

    • @ctjet99channel
      @ctjet99channel 7 років тому

      Kv means rpm per volt. If I run a 270 at 12v that is 3240 rpm. If you run the same motor at 22v that's 5940 rpm. basically you will be able to hit much higher speeds. The higher the voltage, the more torque it produces basically, meaning that you will be able to climb hills better as well.

      Generally speaking the faster you go the more drag you get from wind resistance so for greater range you want lower voltage but higher milliamp hours. Beware with LiPo batteries you need to learn a bit and be mindful of charging to keep the batteries in good health, don't store them charged, store them in a cool but not cold environment (heat is bad for the chemistry and condensation will cause problems)

    • @I.S.electric
      @I.S.electric 7 років тому

      Vansh Shah I have that motor and it's too slow with 3s like 10 miles. but with two batteries it goes like 18 and it peals out some on the side walk. definitely get 6s. if you don't need to much range gent gens ace 3 3s 2200mah batteries. connect them in series. they are only 28$ on Amazon and very good quality.
