oldtown is great but most buyers cant spend 4k on a kayak and if their buying more than one for multiple family members and dont use it but 2 times a month or year the mosre exspenive is a bad option for the on a budget kayakers but ascend should add more plastic in the kayak and even if they doubled it and charged $1,600 .for just the kayak it would still sell. they should have already installed rear scuppers in the back well in mold. but love your videos ill just keep riding my 133x s and use that 3 year warranty it has
Yeah gonna have to agree with you on the 133x. Had one for two years and had a crack develop. Lots of people are having that same problems with theirs. I had fun with it for the 2 years I had it. But won’t look into replacing it with the same one. Replaced it with a Titan X. However, I also believe that not everybody has 4K to drop on a kayak. So that is a factor as well.
I am 6’4” 250 and my 133x has been amazing for the price point I needed. The stability is incredible the room is great and it has done me well. But I also have 2 128ts and those are not great at all
When it comes to big fishing kayaks, still just can’t beat the pelican catch PWR 100! The best part is the guy you run into on the water with the old town will always give you a jab about the cheap pelican, watch him squirm when you paddle, fish, or motor all around him with ease.
I love the layout of the Ascend 133x. I can live without the rails because I can add them .What I can not live with is the structural instability. Whether it be thicker plastic or better supports inside or both and charge 100-150 more even. I would have jumped on this instead of my Bonafide if that was the case.
Hey Aliex just purchased a 120 sportsman pdl. I’m thankful that u prove these fools wrong when they say “it’s not an offshore boat” but have never taken it offshore. U took the top water 120 offshore and caught a tuna, and that’s when I knew these guys were not on the same level of knowledge as u. Looking forward to talking Mine offshore in the coming months. Much respect 🫡
I feel your pain, I own a 133X and I have a 3.5 hp outboard, and a bow mounted Xi3 with GPS. Here is the issue, if you have to have a kayak, and you want it to be motorized so you can fish in wind and currents, you are better off with a Gheenoe, you can buy one for around $5,000. Sorry, if you are a diehard kayaker, you don't want motors, but if you like fishing, especially in Florida inshore, spending more than $1,000 for a kayak is not worth it. As it is, I have spent way too much money on modifications and motors. My God, I saw motorized high-end kayaks for $6,500 and I can buy a small flats boat for that. Now, the good news, like Alex said; you can make it work, cause I did and there are many of us that do as well. But thank you Alex for the review, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Exactly i have ascend 133x it def have its problems but when you only take a couple of poles you nk 300 to the back battery to the front in black pack pro you will be surprised how well the 133x can be i fish inshore docks or flats works fine. Put it this way the ascend is a great starter kayak for me
The Ascend kayaks are a decent option for someone who is looking to go out 5 times a year who may bring a rod or two. Old Townsl Native/Bonafide, Hobie etc are more for those who load up and use it more seriously.
I used your code today. Got the 7.5ah with charger for my garmin vivid 4cv, supposed to last 20+ hours. Was kinda expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Thanks for the honest review Aliex! In the market for my first fishing kayak, and your videos have been super helpful. On a budget, and right now looking at the pelican catch mode, but also looking at the outlaw and the old town 106 (just the paddle version). Have to car top on a small car, and would like to use my transom mount trolling motor once in awhile. Would love to hear your thoughts.
I did...seeing him on that boat switched me from being dead set on the outlaw to preferring the catch mode. Maybe a couple years down the road I'll upgrade to something bigger and nicer, but I think the mode will take me on a lot of adventures in the meantime. Thanks again
Hey, Sorry you got a bad one. I would like to know who makes the motor mount on the bass pro. Will this hole pattern work on a van hunks maui maui 11? Thanks. Bob
if it was a bad one i would have been so critical, it is all of them. Not sure what you mean about the mount, if your kayak has the pp inserts then it can take most mounts
What is the bracket on the back of the bass pro boat? I don't blame you for being upset, I would be too. Maybe they will take it back. Sometimes they will if you are dissatisfied, which you surely are. It has worked for me.
I'm looking for my first fishing kayak. I've been leaning towards the feel free stuff. But if you had to pick a first kayak for rivers and small lakes what would it be? Like 1500 or less? Aliex love your content.
@AliexFolgueira thanks. I live in Virginia so we have alot of people pushing the feel frees. I've looked at some bonafide, but didn't really deep dive. Thank you alot. And thanks for all the content.
Also look at the Crescent kayak lineup. I have the Crescent Shoalie. Built especially for rivers and creeks. Shallow draft for shallower creeks and rivers. It's their flagship fishing yak and at $1599 is a great boat. They also have the lite tackle 2 for $1199. Also a great paddling and fishing kayak.
Told the way it is! Aliex, I bought a Hoodoo for a 2nd boat, for my freshwater setup. My Oldtown is my saltwater vessel setup. They're both motorized. But the Oldtown has a lot more $$ invested. They're both garaged, and I take care of all my toys. But definitely a huge difference between quality boats! 😎 🛶 🌊
Hey Aliex great video. I just bought a Native Slayer propel 13. Would you say this is a good quality boat? I have never owned anything else except a perception pescador pro.
Hello, Aliex, It seems that we share the same concerns regarding the 133x. I must say that I feel fortunate to have come across a highly reputable distributor, Mariner Sails Dallas, who introduced me to the remarkable quality and value of my MK106.
I hope Basspro and Ascend will see this video and it will light a fire under their behinds and get the issues resolved with it. As stated, great design on paper but the quality is subpar. Alot of people have returned their 133x because of the warping and cracking issues in the tank well and seating areas. There are Ascend owners groups out there complaining about it and moving on to something else.
Good point, I use the hell out of mine and fish with it. When it wears out, I will not replace it either, but it will be with a Gheenoe not a $5k kayak. The older I get, the harder it is to move around in a confined space. For where I fish, the stability of the Gheenoe is best, but for some people that fish rivers and lakes, a john boat is a much better option. With that said, if you need a kayak you can paddle, you definitely don't want the 133X.
They will have to rip my auto pilot 136 from my cold dead hands. I think I wanna be buried in when I die. Agree with you Aliex, 100 percent, about the quality difference. You get what you pay for. If they make those improvements you spoke of on the ascend, it will no longer be offered at that price point. Old town rules! It's so stable, I sit side saddle with my legs hanging over the side all the time while fishing, never flipped, and never fell out. Just wish it had a little more power for the stronger currents here in South Jersey and a better plug system. But I pick and choose my times, and better quality plugs can be installed. With the ascend, you can't get around thin, poor quality plastic. Good quality goes a long way!
@@AliexFolgueira No, you cant especially if trying to do a fair comparison.
