    Great DIY...Thank You!! Recently performed this maintenance on my 2015 640xi (F06). Replacing the guibos and the center bearing is exactly the same! I found that if you take out the 3 torx bolts connecting the rear guibo to the differential and then the 3 bolts/nuts connecting the guibo to the transfer case then remove the 2 bolts securing the center bearing the driveshaft will drop down in the middle into a "V" shape which gives you plenty of clearance at both ends to remove the whole driveshaft from the car with very little effort!! Even if you're only replacing one guibo, front or back, it's best to drop the whole driveshaft, otherwise you will be fighting the hell out the end you're working on to get the centering sleeve to clear the pin. Since all of the bolts are stretch bolts they are supposed to be replaced so that you can get correct torque. I forgot to order 3 bolts so I used blue loctite and torqued them to the recommended torque (55 Nm) without the additional 90 degree angle and they torqued up just fine.

    Incredible detail. You’re talented. Actually, from this, I’ve decided to hire this job out. There are so many hurdles, between rusty bolts, soot in your eyes, the weight of the components, inaccessibility, and me being alone and weaker/older- I’ve never seen a repair that better justifies or warrants having lift access and a buddy to help. I love your lighting and including every single step, even the mistakes that you felt that you made. This must be the problem I’m experiencing with my 2006 325xi wagon 6mt. No one has found the problem. I’ve replaced everything else! $$$. God bless. Jon

    Finally, I see a video of someone else with a guibo at the rear differential. I've been struggling to get my driveshaft off of it to do the input shaft seal; now I know why that might be.

    Thank you for the hard work videoing this job for us. I really wish he (and other DIY videos) would tell us the symptoms they were getting before they felt the need to do this job. He mentions at 12:43 that "It was the differential side of the driveshaft that was causing all the problems". But What problems? If he just meaning problems with getting it off or does he mean problems with the driving of the car? Or if they were just doing it for prevention what are they preventing that will happen when it goes wrong. I have a 335XI that is now rear wheel drive only (I used Xdelete app to make it so) and when I am accelerating hard it makes a shuttering sound (No clunking or rattling). I have done a center support bearing on my E46 M3 before because it had obviously went bad and it was clunking around inside of it's ring with the rubber completely broken off. This doesn't sound like that at all.

    good job! can you please explain what symptoms you had that made you think the guibo needed to be changed. and after the change, did it fix the symptoms.
    thanks

    I did this job and also managed to destroy my centre support bearing during installation. I knackered the bearing itself by accidently tapping it. But had to drive with it that way until getting a new one. If you dont have a pipe I saw that you can actually use the other part of the drive shaft itself to push down the bearing

    Hey man. I have some issues on my E60 520D. It vibrates when accelerating. Gets worse accelerating uphill. My mechanic told me it could be the flex disc / shaft bearing. But he said my car has only 1 flex disc. What were your symptoms?

    Just curious, I’m chasing some drivetrain vibrations. What are symptoms that you felt leading you up to replacing it?

    • @evergreenbrothers
      @evergreenbrothers  3 роки тому

      I had vibrations when driving at highway speeds. The passenger seat was visibly shaking when going over 70mph. Check wheel bearings as well, at first I thought it was a wheel bearing problem, which is another common problem.

    Are the guibos the same? This is the first video I saw that shows two. I bought one thinking that is all it needs.

    • @evergreenbrothers
      @evergreenbrothers  3 роки тому +3

      The guibos are different. Check out realoem.com to get the model numbers of each guibo disc. They were different on my 06 330i, and assuming they would not be identical on your model.

    Any way to see the condition before taking things apart? I hate to remove things then see the disc and bearing good as new.

    • @evergreenbrothers
      @evergreenbrothers  3 роки тому

      You could remove the skid plates and inspect the discs with a visual inspection. Look for cracks and splits, see if the metal inserts are still in tact. If you have the car up on 4 jack stands, you could put the car in neutral and spin the driveshaft to check all the way around the discs. If the car is vibrating when driving at highway speeds, that could be a symptom of a bad guibo. See attached link to see a guibo that is really bad. This is from a Infiniti G37, but same idea of a bad disc. Hope this helps.

    How many hours of labor would a mechanic charge for this job?

    • @evergreenbrothers
      @evergreenbrothers  3 роки тому +1

      Maybe others can help with an estimate, but to take the exhaust off, heat shields, remove drive shaft, replace discs and center support bearing, and put it all back together...probably like 3 hours if they are efficient. Depending on where you are and who you go to, probably $300-500 worth of labor, excluding cost of the parts. That's just a guestimate, so don't hold me to that.

    • @evergreenbrothers

    • @florinp7204
      @florinp7204 3 роки тому

      @@evergreenbrothers Hi. Thanks for responding. I meant to say how they handle on wet/dry, and if you think Conti will last for more than 4 years (driving normal, without drifts/burnouts). I'm planning to buy a new set of 18" tyres for my bmw ( 225/40 r18 front & 255/35 r18 rear). I was thinking about continental or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. Do you have any advice ? Thank you!

    Do not forget to preload center support bearing … unfortunately this guy did not, that’s why one of the bolts was not straight into the bracket … this will lead to premature failure at some point
