A 14-year-old boy shot his teacher in a Belgrade classroom on May 3, 2023, and opened fire on other students and security guards, according to Serbia’s interior ministry. He was arrested in the schoolyard by police in connection with the attack. Nine people, including eight pupils and a security guard were killed. Six children and a teacher have been hospitalised as police launch an investigation into the mass shooting.

I don't understand why are students now so stressed to the point that they decide to lift weapons. There is no reason for anyone especially at this young age to start a school shooting except bullying and the lack of care, why are people still doing this to traumatize each other? I live in Serbia and this is the worst tragedy I have ever seen in my life (I'm 38 years old). Nobody could imagine something like this happening. The pain can be felt in the air, everybody is struck to the core... these are not our (meaning my) kids, yet we all mourn like they were....I am devastated, we are all devastated. I really hope and pray for those who are injured to recover as soon as possible.

Haven't confirmed this information, but apparently it could've been plenty worse; the guy called the police and turned himself in, and still had about 15 bullets left. His father is also arrested under suspicion of illegally owning guns as well. He was even quite the renowned doctor. He might have saved a lot of patients' lives but he sure didn't save his own family.

There is also an emergency request for O type blood to save a girl injured during the shooting. The schools city-wide cancelled school for the day, and the next day a minute of silence for the deceased. He's also been planning this for about a month, and the night before at a party with the same people he killed today, he seemed 'normal' according to witnesses. Or so I hear.
Do not let this become normal. It's happening in Brazil very often and people act like it's just another day. Tragedies cannot be seen as commonplace. Fight for your kid's safety!
@Sonja Ilic Here it is the same. If you're underage, the maximum sentence is 3 years. You could've killed 8 people, you won't be more than 3 years in detention. No one has lifted a finger to change the laws regarding that though. What they did was put cameras and bodyguards at schools.
@Sonja Ilic I work in child protective services. We gotten to a point where mothers won't let their kids go to school because they're afraid of something like this happening. I hope you guys handle things better.

@@Williamshakespeareswig I’m not sure about Serbia but many European countries have an age where your become criminally liable. For example in Germany if you’re under 14 you can’t get charged because of that. Different ages in different countries. In most countries there is also no option to trial a juvenile as an adult, it’s deemed unreasonable and minors are to be put in juvenile facilities only.

I remember in the UK there was a case where two boys killed a toddler and the boys were kept in state care until they were 18, that was the most they could do because they couldn’t be held responsible. I also remember being aware of the law when I was 13 so I’m of the personal opinion that kids realise what is a terrible thing to do. While they shouldn’t get the same charges as adults, it’s always unfair to any victim when nothing happens at all to them. What an Injustice..

In the US a 6 year old boy brought a gun to school and shot his teacher, recently. Kids arent innocent anymore it was stolen from them.

Government literally gave 10 new changes that will happen, more police in schools too, strict laws about owning and storing legal guns will get even more strict, there will be a giant nation wide check of all those who have licence for guns, also they want to change the law too and they are trying to figure out how to keep this guy in jail forever. First to keep him in mental hospital until he is 18, then to transfer him in prison. Everyone in this country took this seriously and they are working on making changes so in future this doesn't happen again. I Fear This Happening at my school everyday. I am pretty much thinking about it all day and am so anxious. I am not American, when I first moved here and heard about the shootings it terrified me. I feel guilt for this. Everytine a shooting happens here and is spread through media people get inspired to do so as well. In home or work. Dad got arrested because he's part of it. Used to bring him to shooting range and also his son took his gun from his safe without him knowing that secretly learned his code.

Unfortunately an expected thing. As someone who lives in Serbia, I can say that Serbian society is in a big crisis. General apathy, tension and injustice reign in Serbia. People work for 400 euros if they can find a job at all. It's just unsuccessful post comunist country with corruption and injustice. Compering to this situation communism look like paradise. About 1% of the population leaves the country for the West every year. Dictatorship, ruled by a one-man party that spreads chaos and disorder. Serbia looks like a post-apocalyptic society from the movie Mad Max or Blade Runner.
