- The beginning and end of this song were pretty fun to try and learn. Also, I changed my setup just a bit for this song. First video trying out my new camera as well! 1080p that sh*t! Single shot/take.
I proudly endorse Pearl Drums and Vic Firth sticks!

So is everyone going to ignore the fact that he executed all of the ghost notes during the verses?! Holy sh*t, man!
The most accurate drum cover on UA-cam
watch my cover please
I'd agree with ya there mate.. Ben flogged it
Well, now in 2022 there's another, I'm not saying that it is better than this, but as great at this ua-cam.com/video/19FmwZIhhAg/v-deo.html
love the sound of the snare
Exactly!!! Great sound!
Ben Anderson: blowing your mind with the illest drum fills since God knows when.
this is one of these videos that you can like with in the first 15 seconds. Great job
I can see that playing less than 3 minutes of a mars volta song is daunting on the drums, I can't see how thomas pridgen played for like 2 hours straight when I saw them in new orleans! Great job bro!
FLAWLESS victory!
AN ABSOLUTE BEAST
this looks so fun to play
Love the sound of your set!
Incredible!
flawless! thanks for sharing
Absolutely freaking insane!!!!!
Unreal as always
mother of god.... that was impressiiiiiiiiiiive
I have probably watched this ten times already and commented twice lol. This is still UNREAL... I would love to be able to play this someday... You are probably the best on youtube...
Man, I can damn near taste that snare.
Tight!
definitely the best interpretaation of the ending of this song that ive seen.
thanks!
That was really good, The end was amazing dude. Killed it!
That pattern is just about all straight 32nd notes. I change my arms cause the accents I heard in those spots land on my left hand when playing it that way. The little bit of tom accents before the cymbal/snare bit has some alt. sticking patterns, but I don't recall them. I just roughly picked out where the accents where and the sticking pattern I used sorta just happened based on what felt best.
watched this a year ago and i'm equally amazed now as i was then, also feeling about the same level of inadequacy as i did then too. nailed it bro!
Very nicely laid down man.
that one dislike someone has given you was from thomas pridgen himself, not liking how you've gone and played that PERFECTLY! jesus man i need to get practising!
one of my favorite TMV songs, and you fuckin killed it! i clicked on the thumbnail not knowing what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised/blown away by how spot on you were. nice job!
Tasty ghost notes and fucking hell this guy has got energy!!!
awesome work man, Im going to use this as a guide to learning the song.
Dude, this is awesome!
Welcome to Nothing More! :D At least for the tour!!!!! INSANE!!!!!!!! See you in Boston!!!
Very awesome drum cover. Good job man.
Perfect, specially the outro
Congrats ! That song looks so hard to master !
Damn son!
Really solid play! Got linked here from another cover of this song and I'll make sure to stay and watch more of you :)
This vid shows your genius!!
Holy fuck man, you should have like WAAAAAY more views on this - I know that's not why you do what you do, so keep up the great work man, you're an inspiration!
hahaha ok i think its pretty cool how he does this with one foot. i have trouble heel-toeing tht fast. as always great drumming!
This is the best drum cover I've found yet, Mars Volta or otherwise. Brave of you to attempt mimicking Pridgen, as he surely has small heart attacks after each song. You absolutely nailed. What do you have muffling the snare? Surely not just a washcloth, which has always been my go-to for recording. Whatever the case may be, I applaud you. Well done, sir.
Holy mother of God. This is fucking awesome. Not quite as tight as Pridgen, but it's pretty damn close. AMAZING job, dude!
Well played sir
Here’s your grammy 🏆
Awesome job Ben....xo:)
Absolutely phenomenal performance, on par with Pridgen himself.
good job dude!
within the first 30 secs. i was like holy crap. good job man (Y)
I listened to it a LOT
awesome
Good job!
Really wish every drum cover on UA-cam wasn't compared to Luke's or Cobus' version.
thank you!
liked and fav'ed before I even pressed play xD
Dude! Fuck yes!
@BadShannonBand thank you!
man, u are fuckin amazing! give us MOAR!
DUDE! you fucking killed it! So good!!!! Just as good as when Thomas played it on the record. Subscribing! :]
For the most part! For stuff like this I usually just listen and air drum or tap it out to try and get as close as I can to what I'm hearing, then I take it on a kit and try jamming it.
Yep.
@BurnThePope0514 I will never play another double pedal if I have the option. 9000's are killer man.
Very nice sir! I'm still trying to get this song down when I've got time with my set, how did you go about dissecting the freak out at the end?
i LOVE HOW THE CAMERA SHAKES EVERY TIME YOU HIT THE BASS DRUM
I'm your 600 like, shits tight.
@NYTROOPA Lol you're so good already though man
赞~~~~~~~~~
hmm niiice
Any tips on how to start learning this song lol? Should I just listen to it a lot?
Well even with a double bass this is still a hard song to play! And he probably uses the double so that his recording sounds better on the kick drum as well.
whoa. nice! how long did it take you to get this song down?
This is amazing. Could you tell me how the verse written down on guitar pro or something?
Trying to figure it out but it will take some time thanks anyways!
doublebass is fun though man and it takes a lot of practice to get good at it.
The 1 person who disliked this video obviously hates his life.. pay him no attention.
@drummergirl626 total I'd say about 8-10 hours. mainly focusing on the intro/outro cause I wanted it to be as close to the track as I could..
i just listened to it a lot until i understood the groove, then i took it to the kit
All of your covers are fucking amazing! Do you like the dw9000's, I want to up grade from my 5000s, and its between the 9000s, or some Trick Doms
that snare drum....
what mikes are you using please ? so i can do some recording
@Yargasblarg1 Pridgen only plays a single pedal, so for this cover I too only used a single pedal...otherwise it would just be cheating!
Haha fair enough! :)
@Razoth0815 AND you are so right!!!!
a question that's been bugging me is this. In the main verse are you/is Pridgen doing the double-hits with one pedal or using the back of his left foot to do a double hit with double pedal?
This has 23 thousand views, Luke Holland has over 500 thousand.
Sigh.
(Oh, also, absolutely stellar cover!)
Luke Holland's cover is played and recorded much, much better. Stop being a fanboy. This is a good cover, but Luke's is better. Simple as that.
lolh4x Yep, and the reasons he got to the point of having people film his videos that well and help him record etc. is the reason I sighed, so stop being a bitch.
Also, it's not 21 times better.
+lolh4x Luke didn't even do the solo at the end of the song. that dude is weeeeeeeeak.
the facts are.... Luke Hollands recording simply has more editing. its almost to crisp, lacks the individual rawness that mars volta has. still, one of the best drum covers on social media. well done. but I prefer bens,.... has more grime, more intent and the sound of being there live, his finish was awesome. well done to both of them
Do you slow it down anything when you listens to it?
Some triggers are used to make equalised sounds no matter how hard it is hit, mostly on the bass drum... such as george kolias... it allows you to play louder the faster you go... so in a way it can be cheating if you're playing at a pace where the pedals barely move back from the skin because its that quick.... it could move back 1 cm and make the same sound it would if you hit it your hardest. just pointing out that some triggers are for cheats.
is it bad tht when i have a free foot i play triplets instead of doubles?
what is the model of the big china?
Second time watching in a row... I squeal like a bitch at the end... BOTH times. Thank you so much for this, man
you're a fucking genius.
Holy Santa Clause Shit!!!!
14" A Custom Mastersounds
@benanders0n
What's the name of the little china on the right ? :)
Depends what you want to play I suppose..
18" A Custom
nope, thank you!
You could set triggers to be triggered from even the lightest hit, so while some play normally and use triggers for a cleaner or more enhanced sound..you could also make it so you just had to barely tap your pedal and still achieve a full kick sound. In my opinion, thats cheating :)
im pretty sure he means it would be cheating for this song, not in general. me personally, im of the belief that if something was originally played with a single, ill learn it with a single, but i still play a lot of double in other music.
you have far to less viewers for your skill level O.o
would love to see what you could do with this song /watch?v=u8C-ZTQJIkU
pudding
Would be nice with a footcam :(
Triggers arent cheating. They only enhance sound. Thats all they do. They dont do extra hits for you.
