I really liked Ray. He helps Niko find Florian, never screwed anyone over, and only retaliated against Johnny after he stole his money. I wish there was an option to have Ray join your side or help fake his death considering that Pegerino betrays you anyway. They could have at least given him a special execution cutscene instead of just gunning down like a generic mook
Fun Fact - Originally you had a choice to either kill Ray or Phil in this mission, like with Playboy X and Dwayne. But, it didn't happen for 2 reasons: 1. The mission "If the Price is Right" would not be possible to happen, as Phil appears in that mission. 2. At this point Ray was probably chosen for the secondary antagonist of The Lost and Damned.
This confirms the mission "If the price is right" was made before Ray's death was planned as weird as it sounds. Knowing that, it also confirms R* was just lazy to rewrite the "if the price is right" mission if you decided to kill Phill so they scrapped that choice and made it so that Ray has to be the one that dies. A real shame because choosing between Ray or Phil would be so hard unlike previous choices with McReary brothers and Playboy or Dwayne where you could easily decide if you paid attention to the storyline. But between Ray and Phil that would be so tough, they are both good companions, they never betray you and Ray keeps his word he promised. Again, a shame. And for people that say "Ray had to die because he was made into an antagonist in TLAD". Firstly, there are couple of antagonists from previous games that were never killed and escaped with their crimes one example being OG Loc (even though his career was over). Secondly, Johnny screwed over Ray when he escaped with the money. Ray had every right to kill him for that
Was Ray even a rat? I know Peg told you to kill him but he obviously wasn't sure. Wonder if it was just Anthony and this was done for no good. Kinda get the feeling that Ray was like Lenny and Peg is Mikhail. I kinda doubt he was actually a rat.
There was a reason Pegorino was a terrible boss. After discovering that Anthony Corrado (Pegorino's bodyguard, who you kill in 'Flatline'), who he was grooming to be his successor and treated like a son, was a rat...well, Pegorino didn't want to take any chances. He wasn't sure who he could trust anymore. But I think that this would've worked better if you were given the choice to kill either Ray or Phil.
I think R* didn't give a choice because Ray was screwing you and treated you like you were his lapdog, "Niko do this, Niko do that" all the time, and therefore many players would enjoy killing him. Personally, I did, and even did it the badass way - waited until we got into some solitary place, got him out of the car, disarmed him, and when he was wriggling on the ground and saying things like "Oh fuck that hurts" shot him right in the head with Desert Eagle. I felt so good after doing that lol.
according to The Lost and Damned, ray have too many heat on him, because he's reckless earner, so he'll soon detained by the FIB or whacked by Pegorino anytime soon, according to Stubbs in TLAD last mission.
@Mysterious Stranger Nah, Ray was greedy, but he was incredibly loyal as well. Despite being the most distrusted member of the family, he never betrayed anyone.
Even though Ray was an greedy asshole, his mission was awesome and supported Niko about finding Florian/Bernie after that😢 I actually felt sorry for him....
That moment at 1:14 made me almost feel bad for Ray. He knew what a deadly and unerrable killer Niko was and he knew he would have surely been the one Pegorino would have sent after him.
No, I didn't want to either. He didn't seem at all like a rat, and he was an alright guy in the story. Maybe a dick sometimes, but his missions were fun as hell. Although I would've rather killed him than Phil if I had to choose between them.
I only kill Ray because the game makes me do it. In addition to being a loyal character with words, he and Phil have for me the coolest missions in the entire game. It's always bad to have to kill him
In earlier versions of this mission, Niko was able to choose whether to kill Ray Boccino or Phil Bell. It would have been cool to know what the reward was for either killing, similar to Holland Nights when you kill Dwayne or Playboy
i assume if Niko spares phil, phil would become his friend and provide Niko with some ability. if Niko spares Ray, Ray would eventually kill Jimmy, destroy the Ancellottis and become the new head of Pegorino family. This family would in turn become Niko's ally in the final mission... idk, whatever it is it wouldve been cool if Rockstar proceeded with the storyline
Look at the way Niko put his hand on his face after Pegorino said he didn't trust Ray, at that moment it's like Niko knew what Pegorino was implying, and Niko and Ray didn't really have problems so it was hard for Niko to think about it
there no way the lost could kill a made man without permission from Pegerino. the lost are a small crew. even when they screwed ray in the diamond deal. ray cleared them clean out the city
This mission was originally going to give you a choice of killing either Ray or Phil Bell. That was most likely scrapped after it was decided to make Ray the secondary antagonist in The Lost and Damned.
I'd perfer to mix it up, have Packie's like level at least 75%, call for a phone-activated bomb, and then rig Ray Boccino's car, then follow Ray and his armed guard to the gas station, then watch the fireworks fly.
FUN FACT: This mission originally give you a choice on who to kill: Ray Baccino or Phil Bell. Rockstar changed the mission to kill Ray instead because Rockstar needs Phil to be alive for the Deal ending.
This mission is perhaps the best time to call Packie for one of his car bombs. Plant it on Ray's Oracle, wait for him and his crew to pull up into that gas station, then call it in. Enjoy the fireworks.
This mission was one of the easiest for me. I just parked next to their cars when they were stopped at a red light and dropped a grenade right in between the 2 cars. They didn't notice it and they both blew up. So much for armed guards and protection.
Ray was a jerk at times but he was true to his word and actually respected Niko, he knew what he was capable of and never tried to set him up….choosing between him and Phil would be impossible. The real tragic irony is that Pegorino is 100 times worse than both of them. Irrational, paranoid, incompetent, makes stupid deals with people that will always backfire and is considered a joke by the other families. Ray should have known that in advance….I doubt he’d have gone into business with someone like Dimitri either and would have backed Niko’s decision to kill him…I think in an alternative scenario, Niko could have had Ray, Phil and even Faustin in his corner…
@@jytvreal honestly, the three arcs should have been wrapped up separately - A clean, sober Faustin coming out of the shadows to help Niko take care of Dimitri and Ray Bulgarian - Florian Cravic (locked Bernie Crane in the box for this run) helping Niko take down Darko Brevic - Ray Boccino and Phil Bell put their differences aside as they figure out it’s Pegorino whose the real problem and take him out with Niko’s help….

In beta version player had a choice to kill either Phil or Ray. It is unknown why it was changed but it might have had something to do with Phil's presence in If The Price Is Right.
Ray was more of an asshole to Johnny in The Lost and Damned, but even before that he helped Johnny locate where Brian is. Even in 4, he helped Niko with finding Florian Cravic. And you can say in his eyes, you betrayed him because he has been nothing but good to you. He was an ass, but he was loyal.
Found this cool conversation in the game between Packie and Niko during Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend where if you do this mission before the exchange for the diamonds, Niko mentions to Packie that he wants to kill Bulgarin. Idk, I just feel like that would be such a cool mission to do.
I called Brucie to take me to Pegorino's mansion with his chopper, then Roman's driver took my to the safehouse while waitting for Jimmy to give me the green light, after that I took my van, called Dwayne for backup, bought a pistol from Jacob just in case and a bomb from Patrick. Afterwards I went to find Ray and his goon's and followed them to the gas station and carefully approached Ray's car and planted the bomb and detonating killing half of them and used an RPG to kill the last of them. Although the first time my van also exploded and sent me to the sea, I survived the explosion and went to finish the job
Ray knew he in deep trouble when he look at Niko, He knew Pegorino gonna to tell Niko to kill Ray, it no wonder he bring a bodyguard, Like Ray or hate Ray, Either way we all know he is a most loyal man anybody could work with, Saddest part is everyone betray Ray
I just played thia mission and it was a fairly epic struggle. At first i thought Ray was in the black car escorting him but after killing everyone that wasn't the case, and his car drove off all the way to Charge Island (weird how it doesn't mission fail you for long distance) where his car seem to fall off the bridge at the edge of the industrial area. Ray was pretty far from where I stood but I got a good look at him through my sniper rifle before i shot him.
Fun fact: The mission was supposed to be you had a choice between killing Phil or Ray But it was changed to just killing Ray because he became one of the main antagonists of lost and the Damned
Ironically, Bochino, Ray's surname, means "Rat" in Italian language. But imo Ray Bochino himself was never a rat/police or government informant nor did Ray betray Pegorino. But Pegorino, being paranoid, unstable, unpredictable and regardless a wannabe wiseguy dress up Don Corleone in reality, albeit still a dangerous, violent, murderous, short tempered thug and murderer, ordered Niko to assassinate Ray because Ray Bochino, as a made man in the Pegorino Family or said crime Family syndicate and capo/caporegime/captain was also greedy, overly ambitious, selfish, corrupt, and a backstabbing, treacherous snake to everyone so Jimmy couldn't trust Ray anymore. Whereas Phil Bell was was more morally redeeming despite presumably banging his boss's wife possibly and a loyal ally to Niko and other gangsters in the Pegorino crew or otherwise. Ray wasn't a snitch imo. Just had to go because of his selfish, greedy, corrupt, ambitious and two faced nature. Hated Ray anyway. But he was the only true legit wiseguy/actual mobster in the Pegorino Family aside from Phil. Even more of a gangster than his own boss to me. 😂
I decided to plant the bomb when rays men pulled into the gas station. After detonating and totalling the first car I shot the gas pump and Blew up ray. Sick ! THANKS FOR SHARING
old gta games have something in common, important and BIG characters just die like if they were normal NPCS No cutscene, no drama, nothing they just fall dead.
In one of the beta versions of the game that were never released to the public, we could choose to kill Ray Boccino or Phil Bell in Pest Control. If this wasn't cut in the final versions of the game I would kill Ray anyway. He's a good character in GTA IV, but I liked Phil alot more. Moments after the final mission of the game when you choose revenge, Phil calls you and says he's out. The Pegorino's are over and he just accept's it. He doesn't want to kill Niko. I wonder what would happen if we killed Phil. Ray would probably send some of his men to hunt Niko.
@@wanilimbe It would be awesome if we could choose to kill someone or not, like Mr. Faustin. What would happen if we let him live? Maybe Niko would talk to him about Dimitri's decision to kill him and maybe he would help Niko fight Dimitri. That could change the story alot.
Locke FO SHO That’s too many story possibilities which would equal a near 60 GB game in 2008. I disagree with Faustin because so early in the game it could make huge alters. It would affect TBOGT aswell.
This made no sense, as the Peg has no evidence whatsoever that Ray was a rat/informant, just pure suspicion. Having people whacked based on suspicion alone with not an ounce of evidence is insanity. Ray was arrogant and ambitious, all he wanted was to climb the latter and be Pegorino's heir, I don't believe he was a rat, it wasn't Phil either, I suspected Angie the Peg's wife, as she waved at the Feds and said "they always drive past at this time", that always intrigued me!!

They could have at least given him a special execution cutscene instead of just gunning down like a generic mook
But in tlad if johnny kills niko ray says ı dont like him
@@vforiman3395 but he still helped him
ya you right man
Pegorino never betrayed Niko
Niko himself was the traitor since he ruined the deal with Dimitri by killing him
Fun Fact - Originally you had a choice to either kill Ray or Phil in this mission, like with Playboy X and Dwayne. But, it didn't happen for 2 reasons:
1. The mission "If the Price is Right" would not be possible to happen, as Phil appears in that mission.
2. At this point Ray was probably chosen for the secondary antagonist of The Lost and Damned.
Or maybe in "If The Price is Right", whether you kill Phil or Ray, Niko will have to do the deal himself.
But the second reason doesn't make sense his final appearance in TLAD happens before this cutscene.

@@UA-camsuckscockTLAD’s story was still being worked on after GTA IV’s story was finished, which explains your reason.

2:13 you can see Niko didn’t want Peg choosing Ray since he helped him finding Florian, quite a sad detail but a good one
5:43 Instant karma
@Mysterious Stranger that's how I took it as well.
@Mysterious Stranger Nah, Ray was greedy, but he was incredibly loyal as well. Despite being the most distrusted member of the family, he never betrayed anyone.
Even though Ray was an greedy asshole, his mission was awesome and supported Niko about finding Florian/Bernie after that😢

It’s wasn’t Niko’s conscience what bothered him, it was guilt for killing someone who was mean but loyal a true to his words but unlucky
The Mission's called "The Holland Play". "Holland Nights" is where you kill Clarence Little.
@@nikobellic2869 yeah exactly right
i assume if Niko spares phil, phil would become his friend and provide Niko with some ability. if Niko spares Ray, Ray would eventually kill Jimmy, destroy the Ancellottis and become the new head of Pegorino family. This family would in turn become Niko's ally in the final mission...

Can't believe that ray would die he's good character for me
This mission is perhaps the best time to call Packie for one of his car bombs. Plant it on Ray's Oracle, wait for him and his crew to pull up into that gas station, then call it in. Enjoy the fireworks.
When Niko wears a suit, he looks like James Bond
Yes in a phone call with Roman he states he regrets killing ray

Wow I never realized how many missions there really were
Ray was more of an asshole to Johnny in The Lost and Damned, but even before that he helped Johnny locate where Brian is.
Even in 4, he helped Niko with finding Florian Cravic. And you can say in his eyes, you betrayed him because he has been nothing but good to you.
He was an ass, but he was loyal.
He was an ass because Johnny screwed him over in the diamond deal and gave the money to Jim. Ray had every reason to kill them both.
Ray was pretty far from where I stood but I got a good look at him through my sniper rifle before i shot him.

At least Niko did a favor for Johnny!

0:32 I remember this song. This is where my mother used to play it when she's doing her dishes
That's why Pegorino killed Ray. He saw that Ray was much better and more successful than him. This was envy and reluctance to share power and strength
I decided to plant the bomb when rays men pulled into the gas station. After detonating and totalling the first car I shot the gas pump and Blew up ray. Sick ! THANKS FOR SHARING

As long Niko does not hit the car has Ray and his bodyguars, they won't notice him
In one of the beta versions of the game that were never released to the public, we could choose to kill Ray Boccino or Phil Bell in Pest Control.
Doubt it. Ray would probably leave him alone. I wish there was an option to turn on Pegorino and kill him.
@@wanilimbe It would be awesome if we could choose to kill someone or not, like Mr. Faustin. What would happen if we let him live? Maybe Niko would talk to him about Dimitri's decision to kill him and maybe he would help Niko fight Dimitri. That could change the story alot.

DID JIMMY PEGORINO EVER HAVE A JOB AS A STAND UP COMEDIAN, THAT GUY IS JUST SO UNINTENTIONALLY FUNNY!!
After finishing tlad this is so satisfying
