    I just bought this today, but to your point about cleaning stainless steel. You normally should not have to soak it, instead, heat it up to 250+ degrees and then spray it with a small bit of almost boiling water (you don't want to cool the pan and warp it, just create steam). The water will soak in and instantly steam off of the metal surface, causing the stuck on stuff to peal away with no effort. It is basically like deglazing a pan. This is how I clean my SS pans and they are easier than many non-stick coatings.
    I have used this method for 25 years and still have the same SS for most of that time. But whatever you do, don't use cold water or run cold water from the tap over a hot pan.

      You can also just use a small cup of vinegar and water and achieve the same thing. I clean out my microwave in this manner and it works wonderfully well. No real effort at cleaning, either.

    This is an outstanding comparison/review. Thank you so much for taking the time to do such a good job with this! A friend of ours was talking about how well her air fryer reheated some eggrolls out of the fridge -- they were crispy again! -- that it has us eyeballing our old toaster oven for possible upgrade/replacement. 😁

    Fantastic comparative review, Lana! I just bought a Vortex Plus after watching your review. The best part of your review is that unlike the know it alls on Amazon, you actually described the actual product's dimensions of both products vs. mistakenly parroting the package dimensions as the actual product's dimensions. Big difference!

    Like that the Omni crumb/drip tray is in front, wish it was deeper. Glad you mentioned the 5 inch requisite clearances. Somebody (instant pot themselves) should make ( and include) a bigger cage basket w/o the spit in the middle similar to the Vortex. Aside from size restraints price and cleanup. The Omni seems the way to go. More versatile, a true toaster oven. Higher and lower temps. does the smaller Vortex "air fry better" ?

    THAAAAAAAANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!! This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find! I want to get the Omni Plus, but I'm so disheartened that they don't include a rotating basket with it! And when I asked them, they won't just tell me "Yeah, you can get your own basket and it will fit."
    I've been looking online for WEEKS but now that I watched this, I'm finally ready to make a purchase! THANKS!

      Awe yay I am so glad I could be of help. The Instant company is very finicky about accessories that aren't theirs. I get it that if it's a spit or a rack that isn't made for their oven, then it could be an issue, but this basket fits on the rod that comes with the oven so how is it any different than putting a chicken or a roast on the spit? Maybe they are coming out with their own line at some point. Happy cooking and stay safe.

      I love it. Why choose? I use both of mine all the time. I will say, I can use both at the same time, but if I try and plug in and use one more appliance (like an Instant pot or the Toaster Oven) the kitchen breaker trips. So just keep that in mind if you use both at the same time. Happy cooking and stay safe.

    Im kicking myself right now. I thought I subscribed to you four months ago. I had no idea the Omni was a Instant product. I definitely would have purchased the Omni plus instead of the vortex plus. I'm definitely giving away my vortex plus. The basket is what got me excited.
    Update: this was posted before I used my Vortex plus and got overwhelmed by the toxic smelling fumes.

    • @LanaUnderPressure

      Oh no, well depending where you purchased it you could always exchange it. I will say the smell most likely comes from a piece styrofoam that was left on t he burner. Until it burns off it smells awful.

    Love the video, thank you. I am considering an air fryer A production pro tip... when voicing over ( off camera ) do your reading on the same mic in the same "room" so that the sound is the same as when you are on camera. Spent 20 years in broadcast TV / production.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you for the praise and the tip. I agree with the discrepancy between the audio with the voice over. The issue for me is that I shoot the video with a dslr and the overhead shots with my phone. Then I use Adobe Premier to edit and do the voice over on my sons gaming computer which is set up with a professional mic already connected. I can't move the pc to the kitchen and I wouldn't even know where to start to disconnect all the stuff my son has connected, so there really is no getting around it. I am slowly learning Adobe Premier tricks and I am trying to play around with the audio levels to cut down on the contrast. The funny thing is I had a blog for a while and never even thought of adding videos until my kids mentioned doing an unboxing (which I never heard of). So my son gave me a crash course in editing and I have been learning slowly as I go since my first video in August. I love getting feedback to help make it better (hopefully people notice the difference in my 1st video, lol fro example I never even thought of using a lavaliere mic until my friend who is also a tv producer here in NY mentioned it.) so thanks so much and any ideas you have , keep them coming. :)

    Great video very thorough. Thank you . I recently purchased the Omni Plus, I was pleasantly surprised to find the preprogrammed items have sub- menus to really hone in on what you are cooking. Example “Airfry” button selects air fry but the you chose what it is you are going to Air fry (French fries, Potato, wings, beef, chicken, fish, shrimps and veggies) it then sets time, temp fan and elements that is best for the particular food you are cooking. It blows away the 2 prior air fryer ovens I tried.

      I am so glad you found the video helpful! Thank you so much. I don't have the Omni Plus, but I have heard it's great. I personally don't use the presets on my Instant Pot and since I create recipes I try to figure out the time and temp for individual recipes. But having presets would be so much faster. Happy cooking!

    Lana, this was an absolutely amazing review! I have some mobility issues so and getting down our stairs can be a challenge so when I’m home alone during the day I need snacks and small meal items upstairs. We just got a mini fridge for me and had been trying to decide on a microwave/air fryer combo to go along with it but couldn’t find one that looked like it would work for us. Then I found an Amazon listing for the vortex plus and omni but I really couldn’t tell what the difference was based on the listing. I NEVER would have been able to gather that much info and make an informed decision without your video! I’m definitely going to get the Vortex plus. It Seems like it can do pretty much anything except boil water and pop popcorn! Thank you so much for the thought and time you put into this. I also hope you and your family had a wonderful pesach! I’d love to know what you had on your Seder table! As an ashkenazi jew, Cuban Jewish traditions aren’t something I’m familiar with but I would love to know what food you grew up with! Thanks so much again!

    Amazing!! Thank you!! I've been narrowing down which oven multi-cooker to get for about a week or so now & I've watched too many videos to count.. this (plus your other Omni videos) finally helped me narrow it down to the Omni but I've noticed that there's a lot of confusion on retail websites regarding the 'Plus' version. Some sites call their product a 'Plus' but have photos of just the regular Omni, or they call it an Omni but have pics of a Plus. Thank you for explaining the difference!! The Omni looks nicer/sleeker to me (not a fan of all the buttons on the Plus) and if it just comes down to proofing & slow cooking (which, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure the Omni could do also) then I'll save my money & stick to the Omni. So excited to finally place the order & give this thing a whirl!! Thank you again! @instantpot owes you for this, seriously.

      Thank you so much for your kind comments and im truly humbled by them. It is very confusing and I noticed the swapping of pictures just like you mentioned. The Omni Plus does go lower in temperature and longer in time than the Omni, so it really can't proof or show cook. But to me those aren't modes in would use a lot and I like the display and look of the Omni better, too.

    I loved your video. And I loved how you described the Omni as having no Teflon or non-stick PTFE while the vortex has Teflon. This is very important to anyone who has a pet bird or a parrot. Any non-stick coatings when heated, emit a poison that kills your birds quickly. They literally die in front of your eyes. I wrote the Instant Pot company and received a letter describing that the PLUS model is unsafe around birds as it has PTFE or other non-stick coatings. The OMNI (NOT PLUS) is safe and I bought it for my son and his wife for Christmas, as they have a huge Macaw to protect from the coating fumes. I am buying my OMNI tonight. The stock is running low in my area so I want to be sure and get it. I do have links to the letters from Instant Pot company, detailing these differences, in case anyone has birds. I also have a separate letter from them stating that the Instant Pots themselves have no unsafe coatings. I'm going to post the links to these two letters from Instant Pot. You might want to mention on your PLUS review about these differences in materials. Thank you.

But that the Omni Plus has a non stick coating but that it is NOT PTFE. They told me this 2 separate times so it seems even they are confused about what is and isn't in their products. I will say, if anyone has a bird, they should stay away from anny non-stick material whether PTFE or not so in that case the OMNI is the best bet. So after your much appreciated review I picked up an Omni plus. It is not gargantuan, perhaps a bit tall also not so very heavy IMO (I'm not a 5 footer myself ;). To break it in, I made sure all packaging was cleaned up and ran it at full heat 450 on both the bake (both top and bottom elements) and air fry (separate top element looks like a typical old electric stove element) for a good 45 minutes. This was heinous. Super off gassy smoke that tripped my fire alarm eventually. I'd recommend doing this outside. Now that it's broken in, and I've played with its functions I feel certain I'll come too love it. I was not impressed with the amount of plastic parts. For certain when using this follow the recommended clearances or more. Like many a toaster oven....Big time fire hazard. The preset functions got very hot during my break in test, as did the sides. The top wasn't too bad. I like you find these presets "meh" The fumes from the "break in" were so bad (and I'm no tin hatter) we had to leave the house and turn on fans. I'd highly advise not to use this or similar appliances w/o such a break in, unless you want toxic toast. Another initial observation Oh pricey toaster oven engineering teams: why not integrate a temperature probe, perhaps wireless into the products interface Much like some pellet grills. That would be awesome. After the hazardous heat clean, i did some test toast, with the tray on the bottom and The rack second from the top. Though preheated It took running the "toast" function on bagel 4 3 times. I'm likely doing something incorrectly. The "darker" maxed out at 3:40 minutes or so. PITA. Will prob just use bake for x amount of time once I figure it out. No (as advertised) this does not replace a microwave, but yes it has many neat options I plan to utilize, like proof for rising dough, as well as dehydrate. Disappointing it came with only one rack. Like very much that the crumb tray is accessible from the front.

    Thank you for that. it really helped me. I go the vortex plus for Christmas but I don't like teflon due to cancer causing issues so had thought about omni or omni plus or power xl pro air fryer oven. i like the omni size and all stainless and i had heard on something else that the omni doesn't contain any chemicals where the omni plus does. that came from instant as a person asked due to having a bird? I just worry about chemicals and cancer. I think the omni will be the way to go then. does it air fry as well as the vortex because i want an air fryer is what I really wanted to do that and chickens. I wouldn't mind getting rid of toaster tho as well as mine isn't working right but my main thing is air frying so does omni do a great job of that. i thought as well since it has the top and bottom heating that you wouldnt have to rotate trays iwth air frying like others. thanks for your help

    Happy Holidays. Have you come across a nonstick baking tray that fits the length of the Omni plus? I like my vortex plus baking tray better than the air fry basket that comes with my Omni plus. I would have loved them to have included the same backing rack in my Omni. I find myself using my Vortex plus more then the Omni plus just because of the racks. I now wish they made a bigger vortex plus so i don't have to make several patches of wings.Our wings some how came out better in the vortex plus.

      Hi, any dish that is oven proof can be used int he Omni/Omni Plus. So i am sure there must be a non-stick tray somewhere. I haven't really looked though. Now that I've had the Omni plus a number of month's I have some bones to pick. I have found it does not toast well, and that's hella a flaw for a toaster oven. My last toaster oven was smaller and the heating elements weren't so called infrared They were old school metal elements rather than these new fangled light sabers. I have tried toasting on different rack levels with and without the drip tray. Broiling rather than using the toast function, using air fry and convect rather than toast functions. Preheating the toaster for a full dark bagel amount of time. Thus far I get dry rather than nicely browned toast. This product certainly works well as a dehydrator. I don't air fry enough to leave a review for now nor have I had an air fryer to compare it to, though I may try and fry up some eggplant today. While mine is designed to safely operate at 450 I have tried to "break it in" multiple times at high heat for long periods and still get an alarming burnt plastic "off gassing" toxic odor that clears the kitchen. I had hoped this device would take the place of many appliances the way the precurser Instant Pot has for me. Thus far this product gets a D in the toast department. Hope I can find a work around. takes 3x as long as my last one.

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 роки тому +1

      Hmmm, that's too bad. I use my Omni to toast all the time and never had that issue. The Vortex Plus I would agree is not a very good toaster, but not sure why the Omni is causing you such issues. I guess it's not for everyone. I have to say though whenever an appliance has multiple functions, I generally expect it not to be the best at all of them. I find this is a much better air fryer than it is at the other functions. That said, it's better than owning multiple appliance. For example, again a Rotisserie Oven it is not going to work as well but who wants to own an oven just for Rotisserie? If that makes sense. That said, I am not a rep fro the company I just give my opinion and in the end it's not going to be right for everyone. If toasting is your main goal, I think you would be better off with a toaster oven.

However, on my Facebook group there are a lot of people who have made jerky and dried fruits and veggies and love it. If counter space is an issue I would go with the Vortex Plus. Hi Lana. Thanks for your great videos. I just received my Omni Plus from Instant. Great unit. I've tried a few things already. Great functionality. Perhaps you could help with two things that are not covered in the Start-up booklet that came with the unit or the Operators Manual on-line. The first is: what modes and settings have the preheat function? The second is: which modes and settings use the heating element at the top, and modes and settings which use the heating elements at the top and bottom simultaneously?
    Many thanks,
    S. Denlinger
    BTW, in another one of your videos, I commented on the little tabs on the left side of the unit that you have wondered about. They interfere with getting the trays in and out. I believe those are for preventing the trays from falling out when removing them from the unit and possibly burning the user.

    • @LanaUnderPressure

      Hello. Thank you for your kind words and I am so glad you find my videos helpful. I can absolutely help answer your questions. 1. in the Omni Plus, preheat only comes on for Air Frye, Bake, and Roast modes. The rest go straight to cooking and counting down. 2. The top heating element always comes on. The coil heating element does not turn colors so it may look like it isn't on, but it is. Only on Air Frye and Broil mode do the bottom heating elements not turn on. All the rest, the bottom and top heating elements turn on. Hope this helps. Also, I did see your comment about the tabs. When I made that video I had only has it for a short time. Over the years, having used it almost every day I realized that the tabs are to keep the tray form flipping when pulling it out, as you suggest.

    Is the rotating basket only needed for air frying in the vortex plus because it only has heat elements on the top? Does the omni cook just as well without rotating since it has the heating elements on top and bottom?

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  4 роки тому +1

      I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. For some reason a lot of the comments have not been showing up in my email notifications.
      Great question! I find the rotating aspect is great not just because of the heating element position but also to regulate the heat distribution and get all sides of whatever you are cooking. So even though the Omni has top and bottom heating elements, I still use the rotisserie function to do chicken with just the top heating element turned on because I find it comes out better than cooking on the tray with both top and bottom. It also allows the juices to flow over the food as it turns which makes a big difference.

      @@datfella5501 Hi. I am an avid baker and I am telling you, both the Vortex Plus and the Omni are amazing at baking cakes. The Vortex Plus can only hold an 8 inch round pan or a 8x8 square pan, but I ahve made one pan in the Vortex Plus and 1 in the Omni at the same time to make a double layer cake. It comes out so fluffy. There are a few tricks you need to do. For example. I use a foil collar around my pan and in the Vortex I place the slotted tray upside down on the floor of the oven and place the pan on that to keep it as far away from the top heating element. Also I place the slotted backing tray I am not using, on the very top level to diffuse the air flow. The Omni you can adjust the fan speed so you don't need to do that.

Could I use a heavy duty computer power strip with a cut off fuse safely? If that is a no go, and I got the Vortex instead, an area about 2" square on the right rear top corner would have to sit only 2.5 inches below the hanging cupboard. If I moved the Vortex away from under the cupboard it while it was in use, it would overhang the counter by .>1". Is this safe? Thank you!!

      Hi. You really need 5 inches all wood of space for both models. It's not safe otherwise. As for a power strip, I'm not sure. I will say that I use a power strip to plug them in when I do my videos and it seems to work fine. I think the company wouldn't recommend it because the safety issue of a longer cord being a hazard for it to fall, but I'll leave that up to you. :)

    Question: Based on your update, am I correct in saying that the OMNI is stainless steel inside (including the interior accessories) and the OMNI plus is nonstick coated? Just wanted to clarify which one is stainless steel lol
    Thanks!

      @LanaUnderPressure  3 роки тому

      Yep your right! The black tray is not stainless steel in either but it's not non stick.

    Great video. Now most might not notice a little glitch in weight comparison chart. But for someone who uses both.... metric and imperial... 9.7 kg for both units ... yet there is 3 pound or so difference in imperial units...... you do the math...
    great video though.

    Which would you suggest for a vacation house kitchen with limited counter space? 1 or 2 people usually, mostly frozen food for the air fryer, with the occasional frozen pizza? I do have a full size oven there, I just don't want to use it in the summer. I have a separate toaster so I'm not concerned about toast but I don't want to be limited as to size of items... Is the Vortex miles better with air frying? Can it fit a typical frozen pizza? How's the quality/durability?
    (also I didn't realize you were the one who made the copycat oreo dream cheesecake that you posted in a group I'm in, I'm going to attempt that one day!!)

      @LanaUnderPressure  4 роки тому +1

      Hi! So I would always go with the largest you can fit and the afford. If you can fit the Omni on your counter, then I would go with that . But if you can't the Vortex Plus is the next best thing. That said, the Vortex Plus can't fit a regular size pizza and the Omni can't fit an entire large size pizza. A good measurement is that an 8 inch pizza will fit int he Vortex Plus if you flip the tray upside down. and a 9 - 10 inch pizza will fit int he Omni.

      It's exactly 14.8 inches however it's tricky. I have bought multiple racks that seemed to be the exact size but didn't work.

    Instant Omni question: Do you know if it's possible to set the air fry time beyond the pre-programmed 45 minutes in "air fry" mode? I want to air fry a large baking potato and the recipe states to do so for 60 minutes. Thanks in advance!

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  3 роки тому +2

      Hi. Air Fry only has a time range up to 45 min. But you can just use the Roast or Bake mode that have higher time ranges and set the Fan to HI. You can use the drip tray to block the extra heat from the bottom heating elements or lower the temp by 20 degrees. Also, place the baking rack on the middle position.

      Yes it is short, but it's for safety reasons they say. I think it's about 20 inches but I can measure it for you and get back if you like?

    Curiosity question only: My wife loves her toaster oven and frequently toasts up a few slices of bread to enjoy prior to her going to work in the morning. Due to limited counter space, I would have to get rid of her present toaster oven and replace it with one of these. I believe the Vortex Plus would best suit our limited counter space and work best for us as it is just the two of us at home these days. I still will have to measure out the height of the cabinets to see if it would work at all there though. Me, I do not ever use her toaster oven, myself, as it has too many knobs, bells and whistles to suit me. I am wondering if the toast being done in the Vortex Plus can be turned over to toast both sides at some point to make it better than how you described it? Any thoughts on this?

    • @LanaUnderPressure
      @LanaUnderPressure  3 роки тому +4

      Sorry it took me so long to reply, I have started teaching again to help out my son's high school during COVID. If you really want something that will toast well and you make toast a lot, I do not recommend the Vortex Plus at all. You CAN make toast in it, but because the fan doesn't turn off or adjust it really just dries the bread. I hope this helps.

    When I look at the link to the accessory rotisserie cage you mentioned, it says they are out of stock and will not know when or if they will have any more. I looked them up on Ebay and the ones they show have the following measurements: Size: Small:Length 20cm/7.87inch
    Large:Length 25cm / 9.84inch. Which size would work best for the Vortex plus? Thanks.
