I have a 2001 grand Prix I've been told my spark plugs are most likely bad yet no one has been able to be sure nor give a tip on how to find out which is bad if that is the case this video just made things 100 times easier
Show my 3800 Supercharged Grand Prix just started misfiring on the number 5 cylinder. Which is why I'm watching this video today. FYI when you pull the spark plug wire off don't grab the boot or you'll get this shit shocked out of you. I learned the hard way.
Often if the coil is bad, the module below it is getting weak and that takes out the coil. Seen it happen many times. Best to replace the module at the same time as you replace the coil, then carry the older module for a spare along with a 5.5mm nut driver.
@Wutzmyname Mike the gas smell at the exhaust is from the misfire it's not igniting the fuel so you will smell that. Did you ever get your issues sorted out? I have a 90k series 2 and it started misfiring and I changed the bottom coil that wasn't showing spark to the middle and it seems to run better and I can't see spark but I felt a little. Don't have money for a module was hoping it's just a coil pack
Thank you for giving me this easy way to keep my sanity! Took a jolt or two, but it solved the p0300 headache I've had for a few weeks of second guessing my abilities. Great job!
awesome dude, right to it, thank you. my boss ask me to check his daughters car which is a 2004 grand am gt and he says its miss firing, I feel that's what need to do just as you did, its not my first time doing this kinda work but I loved how fast you had it covered. if you have any pointers im all ears .
+Shapiff718 A Wildwolves Original Bx. Easy way to find bad ignition coil without a expensive tools. When you do this and the coil fires in a different location then you have a bad ignition module
This problem and all other misfire more than likely is the ignition control module or I.C.M. That's because they designed the motor where on the lower radiator hose runs directly under the ICM. Causing overheating of the module.
Only thing 2 remember is you'll get your ass shocked if there is just one strand of wire poking thru boot and those stands are almost impossible 2 see so be careful if u pull a wire when idling,, need 2 use noid light or spark checker tool,, also I really hate it when someone just numbers wires in sequence instead of the actual firing order,, but still he fixed it so 4 most that's good enough
My 99 Regal non supercharged kept misfiring only when it would rain and water from the road would make its may into the coil packs. Guess which one went bad? The bottom one. Same as on this car. Imagine that.
I had too, when someone first told me to do this. I'm convinced that just grabbing the wire and pulling it off is BAD. I remove the wires one at a time then start the engine, check whats happening, then turn it off, reconnect wire, repeat. Takes longer, but less likely to kill you!
Hi!! What happen when doesn’t work the same coil, because I changed the same coil of the video even after did the same test of spark … I changed the coil and have the same problem doesn’t have spark … somebody help me ??
Mine's doing the same thing I went to the junkyard to get a new piece and it's still not getting any Spark I wanted to try to get some brand new ones but they cost a lot more
@@armandomendoza1289 The fuel injectors don't interfere with the spark Did you replace it with a new ignition module because if there is no spark in only one coil there are only two options ignition coil and ignition module If the crankshaft position sensor is bad then the problem could be a no start condition no spark at all on any of the 3 ignition coils
The way you keep taking the wires off and on is annoying as hell...Why did you take the coil and put it elsewhere when it was apparent, that it was bad?

This is totally exactly what I needed!!! Amen my prayers are finally answered(hopefully). I hope I don't get shocked though... ;)

I know this video is old but u just saved me money.... I'm having the same issue with 2000 grand prix... THANKS BRO👍

THANK, YOU THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's best to change all coil packs. The one you marked number six is weak
very helpful video keep them coming
Thank youuuuu this is what I was looking for

I WISH IT WAS THIS EASY ON 95 GRAND PRIX GTP.

u also need a supercharger coupler as well or a flex plate
that harmonic balancer needs replaced too. Making alot of racket.
Why did I get shocked when I tried this? I followed the Video precisely. What did I do wrong?
PreciousRareFind you went to close to the coil, but don't worry about it every time you get a shock you get smarter

Wear rubber gloves.
I did too that's why I cut the car off then took the spark plug wire off and then cut the car back on to check
Me too ! Don't grab the boot like I did lol. And wear rubber gloves
When I pull one of my wires off my engine stalls, why?
Could also be the ignition control module if swapping the coils doesn't do anything.

Yes, that's right

Will a bad coil cause the reduce engine power light to come on??
Wicked arc
What does it mean if you unplug one n car shut off?
It's the module. Why is it that front one is the bad one?
Tengo un pontiac gran prix99 3.8 pero nose porque no arnca me podrian ayudar porfavor
Como le haces para que no te den toques?
Por q no le llega corriente a las bobinas
Can only 1 half of coil be bad having misfire on num 3
Can i do this if im not a mechanic or will i get shocked?
How many ins are on it
way to awesome thank you so much!!!!!!
Switched bottom coil with working coil and still no spark. Any idea ?

Bad ignition module
Then it is likely the Control Module under the Coil Packs.
Can this cause your battery voltage to dip down and back up? Car idles rough as hell but seems fine accelerating.
Vaccum leak
Mine was doing the same. Plenum gasket/upper intake manifold gasket was gone on mine causing a leak
Right on bro
nice job man
I tried this shit and shocked tf out my self 🤣
Nunca había visto un mecánico mudo
Would this cause a service light to blink?
Definitely a bad misfire can cause it
Sergio Velazquez thank you for reply. I’m going to try this tonight and keep my fingers crossed.

Like that!

Sometimes it's the module underneath it's kind of expensive ICM
You can get replacement coil packs and ICMs from a junkyard.

how did you pull the coil wires without getting "bit" or did you?
I didn't ! I was lucky that time :)
+Sergio Velazquez Sir, I tip my hat to your luck then.
do you have to replace all 3 packs if only one is bad
You just need to replace the bad one
I did that and it still had no spark on the bottom one
You need to replace the ignition module
I did that too
Can it be the fuel injectors?

Yes I replaced the moglui and the coils and the bottom one has no spark when I take of the plugs

to test the bottom ignition module slot.

Replace the super charger coupler. sounds awful..
