Ethan (Tom Cruise) and Benji (Simon Pegg) deceive a Kremlin guard to sneak into the archive room.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Academy Award-winning director Brad Bird (Ratatouille) makes his live-action feature directorial debut with the fourth installment of the massively successful Mission Impossible series. The Kremlin has been bombed, and the blame has fallen on the IMF. As a result, the president initiates Ghost Protocol, and accuses Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team of placing the bomb in an attempt to incite a global nuclear war. Now, in order to clear the IMF of terrorism charges, Ethan assembles a new team to uncover the truth by using every high-tech trick in the book. But this time they're on their own, and should they be caught, the entire world could be plunged into a nightmare from which there is no waking up. Perfection, tension and comedy, all without a single word, perfect!
And without single logic. .
@@Uomodargilla and you sir have no imagination
I don't know if it's Simon Pegg's presence or Brad Bird's witty style but this scene gave me some Edgar Wright vibes.
fair point but im curious for people who comment "theres no logic here there and that" about a movie , is there any movie out there which have 100% logic in its entire duration ?
@aboctok i don't get how it's idiotic or maybe I'm missing something. The tablet said "rendering complete" thereby allowing movement in front of the camera due to the hallway image being displayed on the screen. The camera wasn't being used to measure depth perception at that point.
Plot twist: The guard suddenly decides to do a dead sprint down the hallway
BlackCat Productions Undrated comment
Totally normal human behavior
I'm sleep 😂😂
Like just out of boredom lol
@@half.blight for a Russian, yes
Can you imagine being that guard and then see that massive face in the hallway after hearing many creepy sound?
I would probably run like hell lol.

@@mrcritical6751 John Wick
😂😂
This device was so cool. The detail of the eye tracking to give the illusion of the hallway being real even when he's moving is a genius touch. Also the pay-off when the device freaks out afterwards because it can't deal with two people at the same time is hilarious.
And also genius
Also stolen from an annoying Robin Williams film called Toys where he plays a toy or something, but at one point he does this in a corridor
@@imcallingjapan2178 This idea was first used in an episode of the original 1970's show. So in reality it was "Toys" that stole the idea from "Mission Impossible"... Plus what makes this scene standout is the way they explain how depth is created by the eye-tracking. Retro-projecting something to pretend to be something else is not something new, the eye-tracking and the pay-off at the end is.
@@The_Curious_Cat Oh okay
Wouldn’t really work quite so well with people who have two eyes. They should’ve given the guard an eyepatch so he didn’t have depth perception
It's hard to believe almost a decade passed since this film came out yet still looks modern.
I know right? I know 2011 was a LOOOOOOOONG time ago but still....goddamn :D
Yea... this movie is one of my favourite ones
Because it is modern
@@RockZtarz yeah, people act like 2011 was 50 years ago, like wtf.
@@XeniusChannel it wasn't "looong" time ago. -_-
What’s so great about this is that they paid attention to the fact that they have to track his eyes and move the projection accordingly in order to create the parallax effect to make it realistic.
Ehhh, I don't think its really a parallax effect, as it focused on his eyes (one person) and what he is seeing, rather than what is stopping him from seeing or what he is not seeing compared to what he did see (if that makes sense). This scene looks to me like a particular true optical camoflauge as it configures to the background and his view. That's just what I think, could be wrong, but either all.
But hey, putting this aside, you're right. It was a pretty cool scene :D
What really stands out about the MI movies is that they seem to have perfectly sized, configured and oriented gadgets for everything and anything, so they are literally ready for any given situation. A really great and interesting series. Simon Pegg and Tom Cruise act it so well haha.
Funny that you know enough about the "parallax effect," but don't have enough common sense to spell paid correctly. Which, I might add, we learned in kindergarden.
@@aeureus It's mimicking parallax.
@@Jonathan-fx4jc Or it was just a typo/autocorrect/etc; none of which have anything to do with common sense.
@@seen203 I don't know about mimicking parallax, but I don't know enough about this particular subject to speak too openly. However, during my physics lessons I was taught parallax is what one person sees side by side that the other doesn't (and vice versa) to put it simply. It probably the same concept so of course there's always the chance I'm wrong and it is well and truly at least a type parallax :)
I like how they made pains to make it a realistic technology, something that could actually exist. They could have just made it some unexplainable sci-fi techno marvel, but they gave it realistic limitations, showed how it works (how it renders, how the eye tracking works). The design was way more effort than we could have asked for.
These days, they would have just slapped a "nanotechnology" or "quantum physics" bullshit to justify that something downright outrageous would work.
THIS. That’s why I love MI movies. They keep things realistic enough that makes the scenes interesting
You put my thoughts into words, yeah. MI movies are awesome. I should do a binge soon. They're great date movies.
@@anhero2377 Go, it’s worth the time.
Made pains? Wtf
This movie took the mission impossible franchise to another level. Incredibly awesome from start to finish. the whole cast and team is funny and perfect and had incredibly chemistry and the acting, tension, direction and action. mind blowing.
How about incredible physics, mathematics and biology?
I've never seen any of the series but this clip has really inclined my interest
@@ariehill5631 for me the first two aren't the best, but 3-6 are some of my favorite movies, up there with star wars and lotr imo
Thank Brad bird
Mission Impossible 2 is one of the worst film I've ever seen
Good thing MI 3 is good and MI 4 is great!
The fact that they added a chinese movie effect on mi 2 is the worst thing the director sucks
Incredible how in some scenes, having no music and no sound effects other than that which would be in the scene naturally can create a hundred times more tension than any soundtrack could hope to achieve
no, no... director should have added "laugh track" when big face shows up
1:38 always gets me good 😂😂
My theater was laughing at that scene 😂
This is the part where everybody in the cinema were scared to eat their popcorn.
Mohamad Shamel, why?

What about farting?
If you think about it, it's ironic that given his age, Cruise actually should look like this in real life.
Its not ironic, it's just fortunate
He looks better with that moustache tho
Adrochrome
Because he's not human. Likely reptilian with shape-shifting capabilities....... Lol
Maybe scientology isn't too bad of an idea
Their entire plan relied on the fact that the guard would be bothered checking to see where the leaky tap noise was coming from
He will. Its absolutely annoying. especially when you sit all day at a desk basically doing nothing besides paperwork
I don't blame the guard for being distracted by the sound because Leaky faucet noise=most annoying sound in the world
when you've been a guard sitting all day, you find every opportunity to search for SOMETHING to do. A leaky faucet is going down brother lol

Its a great scene, but when you think about it, in the time it took him to setup that device, he could have just walked down the hallway into the archive.
Do not think!
But they have to unlock the archive and all that extra stuff
Just one question. How is he supposed to get out the archive and walk away?
The same way he got in, phantom noise. Although he would have to move and unlock the vault pretty quickly, so the noise could alert the guard.
Cameras would film him entering in the vault and leaving
I love this movie it’s still for me the best Mission Impossible movie. Action packed from beginning to end it’s a blast.
This is incredibly well done. Not one word spoken, three drops of water, yet absolutely riveting.
I love the attention to detail. While I don't think this would work in practice, they made it really plausible, with the machine tracking the position of the eyes of the security guard and changing the perspective of the picture accordingly (which is exactly what would need to be done in order to make the illusion work).
Making the not logic things seem possible is a sign of great film making 🙂 Remember when I saw The Martian the first time, for a moment I wondered if it was based on real events before I realized, "no stupid, of course its not, ITS ON MARS" 😄

The really astonishing thing is how they managed to cut out the audio of Cruise whispering to Simon about taking a personality test every time they stopped in the hallway

It's great to see this massively improved version of a screen they used on the TV show. They never moved it around like this, but I think Phelps used it to cover his escape from a holding cell in one episode. I think they used it one other time but it escapes me.
This was the most tense scene of the film, the choice of no music makes it work so well.
Still a scene made to perfection.
