I thought it was okay. I just turned my volume up a bit. I dunno maybe testing a few times before recording and moving your microphone can help get sound quality that you prefer.
The anvil crest is actually patterned with ermine. That design is used in European heraldry quite often, it’s a symbol of royalty. The shape is actually meant to represent stoats, I think it’s supposed to represent the tail not foot tracks. Good video all around though
I never noticed that until you pointed it out. You're right about the stoat tails, although ermine has black tails on white. The reversed white on black seen here is called ermines. I love heraldry, there are so many fun terms!
The Brittany flag called the Gwenn-Ha-Du has 11 ermines on it. People in Brittany are called Bretons, and they have a celtic heritage. This is probably why Bethesda gives Bretons a mixture of old english/french names and showed them to be like the savage depictions of celts that the romans claimed to have fought, when coming up with the lore and design for the forsworn.
@@Angelikatosh Don't give up just yet! Are there even stoats in the Elder Scrolls universe? Maybe that's what it is as a real world reference, but in-universe it could very well be little seagull foot prints. It's my headcanon now. If anything, it makes it look cute!
Yes, it’s a heraldic pattern based on the black tips of ermine tails hanging down when they’re turned into a cloak. Look up pics of “royal ermine coat” for examples. Don’t think the top row being upside down is historic, though.
Oblivion was such a great game and it had so many small details that i think we all just took for granted at the time, like how even each town/county had its own unique architecture.
I have been very stressed lately and have been loving your videos to just revisit my childhood from a different angle. You also have a nice voice to listen to!
The pattern in the Anvil one is called "ermine" in heraldry. it's present on Anne of Brittany's coat of arms for example. It represents the winter coat of a stoat
I love how you explore the cultural aspects of the Elder Scrolls setting and how it's shown in the games ! Thank you for your work on that amazing universe
Your content is such a breath of fresh air compared to the other Oblivion videos I’ve seen recently. Not that they’re bad, but your perspective, and topics thus far have been so interesting, and unique. I’m glad UA-cam recommended your channel to me. Keep up the great work 🥰

I wonder if the devs actually researched Heraldry when making these, Heraldry is a specific language and each part of it has a specific meaning down to the color and material. I would be interested in seeing them broken down and analyzed from that perspective.
I’ve watched a lot of Elder Scrolls content on the lore, quests, etc, but I appreciate that you’ve started up by showcasing some of the aesthetic choices of the games. Really goes to show how all of those little details made them so memorable
Your thought of the "significant in the insignificant" is exactly what I love so much about the Elder Scrolls and I am loving your videos! No idea how I stumbled upon your channel but I must say I think I'm in love. Can't wait to see what you've got planned next! Also I just gotta throw in I love Chorrol's heraldry and color scheme. I'm running an Elder Scrolls tabletop roleplaying (set in the Second Era) and my players have become minor lords of County Chorrol so they've been having lots of soldiers wearing the Chorrol blue and Oak and it just comes across as so noble and strong, great for a gaggle of weirdos that accidentally became heroes. Keep up the great work!
Somehow I never realised that Skingrad's crest is so blatant with its references to vampirism, but now I can't unsee it. The red representing blood, the black representing night, and the twin moons Masser and Secunda. Awesome video as always!
Found your videos last night and was delighted to find another one today! I'm so happy to watch someone talking about (the often overshadowed) Oblivion and diving into the little details. It's my favorite game in the series and also the first one I played. 😊
I really recommend you give it a go! Especially if you’ve played Skyrim, you will fill in some gaps with the lore and in general Oblivion is a whole experience that shouldn’t be missed!✨🫶
@@Angelikatosh I'm actually planning on starting a playthrough soon, only ever started one but want to experience the whole thing! I'm a big skyrim fan so playing through Oblivion feels like a must! 🥰
It's basically the ugly sibling in the bethesda gaming releases. It had issues with a lot of well...everything but it did have some interesting ideas for the time. 6 voice actors for everyone shows itself really really fast.
This is honestly such a unique idea for a TES video and i thank you sm. Vids like this can really inspire other creators to think outside the box as well
Loving these videos. So many details I would never have given much thought to but the moment you point them out it brings light to the little things and makes me think about them more. The video about clothing was wonderful and this video has so many insights. Chorrol is my favorite, even if it is simply a tree. Well done, subscribed!
The symbol in the Anvil Crest is an Ermine, frequently used in Heraldry. They are the blavk designs you typically associate with white fur royal robes/capes. White field with black ermine appear in some versions of my family crest.
A good video-analysis! Just found your channel randomly, by the blessing of the algorythm. Just one note: Lorkhan wasn't exluded entirely - that would've been dangerous to do since Alessia's strongest allies were Nords. He was known to them as Shor, so was implemented as Shezarr - the Man God or "spirit behind all human undertaking".
I want to mention Escutcheon of Chorrol. A very good shield the steward of Chorrol grants you if you decide to return the Honorblade of Chorrol to him. The Shield is an ebony shield emblazoned with the Great Oak. It is the coolest City-crest item in the game imo. The irony is that in the video you accept that the Oak is probably non-magical, but it might even go deeper than that. The Oak seems to really hate magic as the Escutcheon of Chorrol actually reflects magic!
For the Anvil Flag, the symbol is similar to the one on the Brittany flag, Brittany is kind of the same location as Anvil when you look at a map of France (extreme west) and is coastal. However, Anvil is in a Mediterranean style wich Britanny is obviously not, so maybe i'm completely wrong but the symbols are the same (the only difference is they have only 1 thing under it and on the Brittany flag, it has 2) Sorry if this comment doesnt make sense, i'm french speaking and my english isnt perfect at all
There is an abundance of stags in County Bravil, but there's more symbolism to the crest than that. The stag on the crest is regardant meaning it is looking over its shoulder, facing sinister (wearer's left side). Looking over the shoulder in heraldry is the sign for being wary or on guard and facing sinister doesn't have an outright negative connotation, but in many places it was associated with suspected illegitimate births. Because the crest is so narrow it's hard to say if the stag is meant to be leaping (because the hooves point down) or just standing. If it is leaping, making it trippant, then the stag is effectively watching its back while running away. If just standing then it is on guard. Either way, it paints the Terentius family in a negative light as being cowardly and possibly guarded because they may not really have proper claim for their position. Other nobles look down on Bravil for how obviously run down it is, but still the Terentius family lives very well and leisurely compared to their citizenry so both upper and lower classes of society have reason to dislike the family. I always saw it as either the rule of the county had fallen to a lesser branch of the Terentius family that was just quick to rest on the laurels of previous generations while letting everything around them fall into decline, or that the current generation was just very poor at properly using their position. Count Terentius is a former tournament champion and his son is an open skooma addict. The Count sits on his throne but is very dismissive of you when you first meet him and seems put off that he might have to do any actual work. I think he also avoids risking sending out his guards not because he cares for their lives, but because he needs them to protect his position and sense of authority. One last thing to note is that throughout the medieval period, stags were something only nobles could hunt in many places, and for a noble hunting was more for sport than survival, so a stag could also represent the frivolous activities the Count and his son pursue for entertainment rather than ruling (one example being they both feast for four hours every night at dinner).
I was today years old when I learned that Anvils sigil is a bunch of seagull footsteps… Great video! Very excited for Morrowind clothing, robes and the colovian fur hat especially!! 😎
So glad I found you early on so I can watch this channel take off! Thanks for revitalizing my interest in Oblivion, it was also my first and favorite entry to the Elder Scrolls.
Brilliant vid! Absolutely adore Oblivion & Elder Scrolls, so it's fab to find a new content creator covering it from such fresh angles. Crest wise, the Kvatch crest is my favourite. Pretty sure that one commenter was spot on with the stout. Those are actually ermine spots and you can find it on real life heraldry or even in more recent stuff like Arsenal's (the football club) badge before the current one.
Favorite game of all time. It was my first open world game, my first major rpg, and my first mature game I owned and got into. I’m getting an oblivion gate tattoo in honor of it next week ❤
I LOVE the Leyawiin Knights of the White Stallion side quest. I played a modded run once where enemies were a bit harder and I couldn't fast travel off the bat, and it was a really fun and roleplay heavy way to make some money to begin the next leg of my journey. Plus, running into Mazoga in the house was always cute.
Anvil crest analysis is spot on. I assumed those three pointed prints resembled a birds foot and if you put into context of the city being on the coast it makes sense. Love the edits, please make more Oblivion videos!
The anvil crest is ermine, or maybe ermines (silver (or white)on black) or pean (gold (or yellow) on black) I couldn’t tell, but both are kinds of ermine, which is derived from fur made out of the tips of ermine tails, it often lines ceremonial royal stuff
I am very elated to see Oblivion's publicity coming back up yet again with Skyblivion and a possible official Oblivion remake on the horizon. Good work!
Would love to see more videos like this, maybe for other games as well. Like I always thought it was neat how in Skyrim the crest of Whiterun was a horse because its vast open plains are the ideal terrain for horses, even though we didn't originally see wild horses in the game. (also its a big Edoras reference but shhhh)
I think the art direction of Oblivion did a good job of making the crests for each city particularly distinct, but not in such a manner that causes attention to be pulled away from other aspects of the cities themselves. They managed to create establishing iconography for each city, and make it feel like it simply just...belongs. Fascinating
I can tell you actually care about the content of your videos considering the amount of research you put into your videos and knowledge you have on the subject. Awesome vid, keep up the good work.
I've always appreciated the crests in TES, they're such nice little details, I just wish that we had expanded lore about all of the cities, holds and states. I always try collecting the hold shields in Skyrim to hang around the player houses What confused me here is that I had thought that Anvil's crest represented arrowheads or harpoons before seeing the other comments about the ermine reference. Oh well Anyways nice video, it's nice to see a new creator in the TES space!
I love your green velvet outfit ❤. Both stylish and oblivionish. Hope to see a video on oblivion guard uniforms, as they not only carry different crests, but also have different textures and materials.
About the coat of arms of Anvil. Those are not the tracks of a stoat, but supposed to represend the pelt (Ermine). This pattern would normally be composed of black shapes with a white background. Bretagne used it as its coat of arms.
Anvil and Skingrad definitely look the most interesting. They actually have original designs, instead of being just or something like that. Also something that just came into my mind by chance about the anvil crest is how the "arrows" (seagull feet?) and jagged edges are pointing in different directions, as if they were... hammering against each other? But no, surely that is just Henry Westons speaking :). Great video, such an original topic!
Played the hell out of Oblivion back in the day and I still regard it as my favorite in the series. Unbelievable how much time has passed, it took me for a spin when I realized that it's been 18 years already since the game came out. I thought '06 was still four years ago?
the seagull cry... reminds me of one lovely glitch I experienced in Anvil, every attack stunned, every npc attack was the same animation over and over, everyone only said "I'm just warming up, you pathetic worm!" in combat, they only said "HMMM" when they got hit. and every two seconds I'd hear that seagull sound effect. all part of the rich tapestry of this beautiful game
That happens when the random number generator breaks and repeatedly outputs 0 on everything. It also affects the grass on the hills and the clouds in the sky, resulting in everything being placed in an exact grid pattern.
Mazoga is the very first thing i do every playthrough. (aside from using the console to set Big Head to essential until i get there) I really like the cozy little lodge and having a roommate, and I think her story is actually pretty solid. The only issue is that she potentially gets killed when stealing food after a few ingame weeks if she's still within the castle, so the quest should be done asap.
Was introduced to TES with Skyrim about a year back. The crests seem so much cooler than the ones in that game. Really enjoyed this video and the two others! Making me consider playing the original Oblivion instead of waiting for Skyblivion to get finished some time between now and the death of the universe.
When I was in middle school my favorite house was the skingrad house. I put Everything in there, decorations, armor, I decorated the desk. It was bomb. But that was the Xbox 360 😅. Keep making content 😊
If you keep up the “I’m a big fan of the scrolls themselves, really good read” joke (which I definitely think you should) it’d be hilarious to one day do that bit with a cloth wrapped around your eyes as if you’re blind. Maybe don’t go full-on dark glasses and a white cane, but a slow transformation into a moth priest would be pretty funny.
As someones whos family crest is an oak tree i like to think it represents the same thing for the most part! "The Clan crest features a silver oak tree on a green background. The oak tree symbolizes strength and endurance, while the green background represents the Scottish countryside" obviously with a few tweaks to fit the setting! The versions ive seen of my families irl also has "stand sure" wrote under it
I must've put thousands of hours into Oblivion and never once thought about the significance of these crests, other than the Chorrol tree being an obvious one. Great analysis of these crests!
I really like the atmosphere of your videos, very relaxing! Your plushies are awesome, and wearing thematic clothes is very fun. Thank you for the video!
I know almost nothing about the Elder Scrolls series, so half of the jokes probably flew over my head, but I still had fun watching your (still few) videos. Honestly I like these analysis videos about seemingly unimportant things, even though I'm quite familiar with what clothes are, I still enjoyed this video slightly more, it just seemed more educating/interesting to me. I think you also seem to be getting deserved attention pretty quickly, and I hope It doesn't stop anytime soon.

They managed to create establishing iconography for each city, and make it feel like it simply just...belongs. Fascinating
incredible attention to detail, well done!
I can tell you actually care about the content of your videos considering the amount of research you put into your videos and knowledge you have on the subject. Awesome vid, keep up the good work.
I love how I commented on the Colovian Fur helm on the previous fashion video and now I see that it was always in the works. Hell yeah.
I've always appreciated the crests in TES, they're such nice little details, I just wish that we had expanded lore about all of the cities, holds and states. I always try collecting the hold shields in Skyrim to hang around the player houses
What confused me here is that I had thought that Anvil's crest represented arrowheads or harpoons before seeing the other comments about the ermine reference. Oh well
Anyways nice video, it's nice to see a new creator in the TES space!
I love your green velvet outfit ❤. Both stylish and oblivionish. Hope to see a video on oblivion guard uniforms, as they not only carry different crests, but also have different textures and materials.
This needs more views, it's so good!
About the coat of arms of Anvil. Those are not the tracks of a stoat, but supposed to represend the pelt (Ermine). This pattern would normally be composed of black shapes with a white background.
Bretagne used it as its coat of arms.
Well you’re blowing up overnight. Congrats!🎉
Oh wow, didn't realise you lived in my homeland, Ireland! Another great video!
A beautiful start to your channel and a love for the world of The elder scrolls
Anvil and Skingrad definitely look the most interesting. They actually have original designs, instead of being just or something like that. Also something that just came into my mind by chance about the anvil crest is how the "arrows" (seagull feet?) and jagged edges are pointing in different directions, as if they were... hammering against each other? But no, surely that is just Henry Westons speaking :). Great video, such an original topic!
This is the type of content I've wanted to see for years. Subscribed. :)
Great video! Never thought about how the cities got their sigils and heraldry before.
I just love videos over analyzing smaller details like this. keep it up!
Played the hell out of Oblivion back in the day and I still regard it as my favorite in the series. Unbelievable how much time has passed, it took me for a spin when I realized that it's been 18 years already since the game came out. I thought '06 was still four years ago?
These videos are great, what an awesome lore channel.
gonna show all my friends ur channel I love it so much!! ^^
Your friends, your grandad, your cat, everybody is welcome ♥️ thank you!
This channel is going to blow up
Oh look, 1 day after I said I'd like a green velvet dress best, Angelika uploads a video wearing... 😃
Yellow Tail Shiraz and a oblivion video is a perfect match!
the seagull cry... reminds me of one lovely glitch I experienced in Anvil, every attack stunned, every npc attack was the same animation over and over, everyone only said "I'm just warming up, you pathetic worm!" in combat, they only said "HMMM" when they got hit. and every two seconds I'd hear that seagull sound effect. all part of the rich tapestry of this beautiful game
That happens when the random number generator breaks and repeatedly outputs 0 on everything.
It also affects the grass on the hills and the clouds in the sky, resulting in everything being placed in an exact grid pattern.
You are the only other person I've heard of who likes Mazoga. I really enjoy the quest and never had a problem with Mazoga herself.
Mazoga is the very first thing i do every playthrough. (aside from using the console to set Big Head to essential until i get there)
I really like the cozy little lodge and having a roommate, and I think her story is actually pretty solid.
An Oblivion focussed channel is all I was hoping for.
Love the vids going over stuff that isn’t talked about as much in these games!!
The symbol on Anvil's crest is called an hermine, a popular design on various coat of arms historically.
Great vid, also you are wearing my absolute favorite shade of green + material type combination
Dude I love that you’re doing a channel making videos they aren’t just “are you aware that RIGHT HANDED swords can be used as DECORATIONS in Skyrim???”
Your subjects rule and so do your awesome rocking….eyes
