I have an MR18 - using for an outside event this weekend - speech only - 2 sets speakers - one small L'Acounstic line array & some repeaters (spkrs on sticks) further out... pretty well figured this was how to do it but you showing the settings (particularly on the FX) really helped - thanks for posting the video! Fab info!
Daniel, thanks so much for putting this video together and explaining everything so well. I absolutely love the resourcefulness of the ideas being shared in this video. The MR18 (and Behringer XR18) are quite limited by not having the matrix functionality available in the X32, nor delayed outputs, so this workaround with an effect insert and subs is ingenious. I'm going to see if I can do something similar with the XR16 to add a center fill speaker and center sub (all passive speakers), with appropriate crossovers and all controlled together... something that a matrix would accomplish easily, but alas: no matrix on the XR18.
Man that's cool. You've really done your homework. All that for such a small venue. 1 ms is all you dialed in that's a lot of work for such little return
@@danielkharratI’m not delaying outputs, I’m delaying busses of differently positioned mics before they go to a matrix for output, your method works though!
Great video! Very helpful. I will use this with my Behringer XR18. Just one thing I would encourage everyone to consider: The MR18 is a waste of money. Music Tribe owns Midas and markets the exact same mixer for half the price under the Behringer brand as the X-Air XR18. I have compared both devices side by side, in detail. They’re the exact same device with all of the same features and same software, made to the same quality standards, just marketed to two different price markets. You literally get absolutely nothing for the difference in price, except for a different name stenciled on the front. They are literally the exact same product in every way, simply with different brand names written on them.
The difference in price is because of the different preamps. The mr18 has the midas pro preamps that are used with the midas pro series of consoles. The xr18 has the midas designed preamps which are different. I listened to both and at high gain i could easily hear the preamp noise on the xr18 but the mr18 was much cleaner
Hey bro! Great video, very innovative. But you could have just bought a DBX Drive Rack Pa2 for less money than the X-Air 18. They are like $500ish. And you can set delay times on the unit.
Hi Daniel, Excellent vidéo. I'm a fan of your vidéos in France. I have a question. Will this work with a couple of mids and a sub? In a 2.1 system as FOH. I have some experience and I dont have the money to buy smart, but I have Reaper. Can I do this to aline in time and phase? Thanks from Marseille Julio😊
Dear Daniel, thank you so much for sharing all this knowledge with us. I was thinking if it could be possible to plug the M32c to MR18 (as stage box) using USB connection maybe ?
Unfortunately no. The mr18 cannot be used as a stage box for another mixer. If you need more i/o you can of course connect them with analog xlr cables but you cannot connect them digitally
Brother Blessings, good day, I am Pastor Anderson Osorio from Colombia, I want to use the FX stereo delay in my church, but I have 2 PA speakers and a new one behind, I need to apply the delay on that speaker because the auditorium does not need 2 speakers at the back, as Would I apply this stereo delay FX to my Behringer X18 console if it is just a speaker?
Thanks for this great video! I'm running livestreams and looking into the Behringer XR18 to replace my analog mixer. Now I'm wondering if this delay workaround could also work to delay my mic's (for lipsync with HDMI camera's) via a bus and then mix this together with video and other sources that don't need this delay. I would love to get one stereo mix out of this console with only the mic's of the people talking delayed in to my videomixer. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Great! But just one more question so that I know I understand correctly. In this example; a aux on the physical device is the same as a bus in the software? So the only catch would be that I lose two outputs on the console, but I gain lip sync with the mics and cams :)
So if you have the ability to do speaker placement at the back, could you just face those speakers towards the center (dancefloor in this case) and not worry about delay?
@NonnyStrikes i wouldn't recommend firing speakers in opposite directions because it would cause issues. Of course it depends on the amount of overlay and the levels. If there's not much interaction between the speakers then who cares you can do whatever younwant but if they do overlap a fair amount then you would need to turn down the level of the rear speakers to reduce the cancelation effect. Running them in mono also helps a little
@@danielkharrat The level is exactly what I did. I turned down the back speakers a bit. It seems to sound great. Covers the area that I had a null in because of Pillars being 10 ft in front of where the mains are. thanks for replying though! It's great to have another perspective align with my own!
Thanks Daniel, with this method does this mean the Main L/R Inputs are unusable, as everything needs to be physically connected to Aux 5/6, or can Main L/R be utilized for another room where time delay is not needed?
Why would they be unusable? In this video I'm using aux 5-6 and the main LR. I'm using all 4 of them. Not everything is connected to aux 5-6 Aux 5-6 are connected to the front speakers and main LR are connected to the back speakers And the subgroup 5-6 goes to the main LR. So you can do whatever you want there's no reason why you wouldn't be able to use the main LR
@@danielkharrat I understand better now, thank you. So only Aux 5-6 are affected by the stereo delay? and Main LR wont need a delay? Thank you for your time.
@Wayne Bradley i showed 2 methods in the video. One of them delays the main LR and the other method delays the aux 5-6. It's up to you to decide which method you wanna use depending on what you want to do
The mr18 does not have a matrix and does not have output delays. That's the whole point of the video. I did it in that way because these features don't exist on this mixer
Hey! I did your first method, do I need to bring up the delay effect channel volume level so signal would come through? Or can I have the effect channel itself at -infinity and it will still come through
No because it's an insert. The subgroup fader should be up not the effect fader And because it's an insert there's no send and return You are inserting the effect directly in the signal chain of the subgroup So just keep the effect fader down, you don't need it
That’s cool but a-lot of work. I would have measured the distance between speakers and plot that measurement on the midas to obtain the delay. Done I know you test on the midas but the Midas already gives you that delay distance number for you. lol😂 good video
If you only measure the distance, it will be off by 0.5 millisecond because that's the latency of the stereo delay insert on the mr18. What i showed in the video guarantees an accurate result regardless of the latency of the insert
@@danielkharrat well yes but if you already knew this then you would have added the 0.5 milliseconds to it. I get it men. Everyone has a different way of doing things and what matters is you get the same results or close enough.
