    How do you like it as a kicker? I’ve been looking for a used Yamaha T8 because I’ve heard two cylinders are a lot smoother but I have an opportunity to get one of these for the price of a used Yamaha. Is the vibration tolerable?

      Hey Jim it worked great as a kicker for me and your right it may of vibrated more than a Yamaha but it didn’t bother me at all. Can’t compare but I know Yamaha makes solid motors as well!

      For price weight can't beat it. Yah it vibrates and is noisy but it's also cheaper than yammi and weighs 60lbs. Tohatsu makes these for Mercury, they are stupid simple in design like a lawnmower. Run ethanol free gas as the jets in carb are very small don't want to gum them up

    Just curious, how did you run the motor out of the water for warm up? Standard muffs do not work on this model due to location of the water intakes. Did you run it in a garbage can filled with water? Great video! Thank you for making it!

    • @BCBackwaters
      @BCBackwaters  3 роки тому +2

      I used a Rubbermaid I was able to Jack up the front of my boat to get the leg down lower to reach however a garbage can would also work

    I have a 14 foot StarCraft. I am looking to buy a motor. I am looking at that 6 hp Merc. I don’t have a ton of money so I can’t go up to a 25 however a friend of mine has just about the cleanest old Johnson 25 . He said it runs perfect and it looks almost new. It’s around A 1984 to 86. I am thinking I would be better off with the new Merc. I can get one with 2 hours on it for 800.00 or go to the older 25. I am not sure what one to buy. I am just using to do some light fishing with. Does that 6 move your 14 ok? I know it won’t plane but that does not bother me.

    • @BCBackwaters
      @BCBackwaters  Рік тому

      Yes a 6 will move the 14ft it will just be slow but for lake fishing I’d say you can get away with a 6HP if you are in any kind of current I wouldn’t go less then 15hp. If I had to do it all over again I’d probably go with a late 90s 2 stroke as they are a lot lighter and much easier to work on.
      From my past experiences I wouldn’t by anything pre 90s but just my opinion.

    1)Thanks for the video.
    2)Is a Tohatsu outboard, re-branded (shame on Mercury).
    3)The drain plug, is not on a "practical" place. Yamaha have it on an ideal place. Also you have to turn the outboard on the other side, drains more oil. (Sorry for my bad English)
    4)Yamaha outboards have better quality than all other brands/manufacturers. Are more expensive, but "you get what you pay". LOL

      KG Projeckt Very reliable motor never ran any special fuel and was a solid motor for trolling. I also used this motor on my Jon boat in a marsh in harsh temperatures and the motor never had any starting issues at all. Never had a single issue.

      If the oil runs out your pistons will seize in the cylinder and probably destroy your engine or cause a lot of damage.
