  • Michelle and I have gone to Grand Teton National Park so many times, we know where and when to find the wild animals. We've seen grizzlies, black bears, bison, elk, moose and more up close. Sometimes too close. This will tell you where you have a good chance of spotting these animals and the stories behind our adventures (for example, when we ran TOWARDS a bear that came through our campsite).
Michelle and I are trying to grow our UA-cam channel. If you like this video and the others we do, please hit the like button AND subscribe. Thank you!

This video blew me away. I'm a wildlife and scenic landscape photographer and frequetnt visitor to GTNP and just now, January 1, 2024, I happened to click on your video entitled "Top 8 places to spot wildlife in Grand Teton National Park." So I'm enjoying the video and Low and behold, there I am at approx. 13.50 and again at approx. 16.55, standing with a woman I had just met while we both waited for a bull and cow elk to leave an island in the Snake River and cross to the opposite shore. What are the odds of finding oneself in someone's video on UA-cam. My photos tell me it was Sept. 27, 2022. I couldn't believe it. I hope this means it's going to be a fun year. Happy New Year to you both and safe travels always. Thumbs up on the video!

Just got back from the Grand Tetons, but we didn't have luck in finding much wildlife. We drove between Coulter Bay and Jackson several times and checked out nearly all the spots you mentioned, but strangely we didn't see any buffalos, elk, moose or pronghorns. But we did enjoy the scenery, the hikes and checking out the town of Jackson, so it was still a great trip.

Glad you had a good time. We were also there last week. Saw quite a few grizzlies and elk. Surprisingly few bison. The ones we saw were in the Elk Flats area. We also went up into far northeast Yellowstone. LOTS of bison there. At times surrounded by bison. When you go back, make sure and go down to Cattleman's Bridge in the Oxbow Bend area. Elk, bald eagles, otters, beavers, osprey, bears, etc. It's our favorite spot and right on the Snake River.

Thank you. Great stuff. I plan to go next year for wildlife photography. Should I leave my dog at home? Do they have areas where dogs aren't allowed?

Thank you. Dogs are not allowed on national park trails. They are allowed elsewhere including campgrounds and parking lots. Enjoy your trip!

You can do it if you have at least a week. More like 10 days. There's so much to see and do in each place.

Glad I ran into your video as I am planning my solo trip to Teton and Yellowstone this July. Staying at Jenny lake campground and signal mountain for about four nights each. Any recommendations for Yellowstone camping? I’ll be car camping in my Subaru Outback. I’ve heard great things about dispersed camping in the national forest . Can’t wait! Thanks again for posting

Planning a trip late September early October, hoping to get lucky with the wildlife.
The Reagan poster for the win.

Thanks. That's the perfect time to go there. Fewer tourists and great colors. We were about a week early for the colors last year. I think first week of October would have been perfect. Of course, it changes a little every year. We're heading back there in August. Glad you noticed the Reagan poster!!

We are volunteering at String Lake . We are String Lakers. Seeing the video of you crossing the Bridge at the south end of String on the way to Hidden Fall or the String Lake trail gives us the chills. We look forward to our adventure as a Volunteer Ranger at the GTNP. Just wondering if you remember the location where the String Lake trail bears off of the main trail? We call that Confusion Junction. In the video it is 25.09. Where you missed the sign about Bear Spray.
Since the signs are not adequate people sometimes go the wrong way, as we say they got confused and trek the wrong direction.

That area right near the bridge is certainly so beautiful. It's one of my favorite scenes to photograph. I do remember well Confusion Junction. As we mentioned in the video we had forgotten our bear spray, went back to the van to get it, and then later came across the Beware of Bears sign. We're going back in August. Can't wait. Maybe we'll run into you.

What makes Grand Teton National Park so great is how easy it is to get around. You don't need to hike or even get out of your car to see some gorgeous scenery. The mountains can be scene from just about everywhere. I would suggest Schwabacher's Landing which is just off Highway 89. Oxbow Bend is another great spot along the road. Also, look up Moulton Barns along Mormon Row. Really easy to get to. And the Snake River Overlook made famous by Ansel Adams. You can see and experience all of these and more easily in a day, even just a few hours. Enjoy!
