Human Sunbeam Ethan Van Sciver (GREEN LANTERN, CYBERFROG) casts his critical eye on the sequel to the biggest crowdfunded campaign of all time - Eric July's ISOM #2.

Eric and his yes-men can say all they want, but CG wanted the Rippaverse to be a success.
Rippa can say everyone wants him dead all he wants but hes lying if he doesn't say that nobody supported him more than CG before he revealed his true colors.

Someone who talks the talk, on youtube, finally decided to walk the walk. Absolutely 0% of people who wanted ISOM to succeed, expected Eric to make a perfect book that is peak fiction, you have to crack some eggs to make an omelette. It was really wholesome to see so many people come together and support Erics ideas.
Having fun, should have been the goal with ISOMs arc, you dont need perfect art or perfect writing, its the intention that matters.
I think some of us still do. We would like to see the standards in this movement elevated.

In the end, it will be Eric’s delusional belief that he was a creative talent that results in his failure. Sad, but also humorous that someone could be that unaware.
He could have taken the role of the ideas man editor. He only had to make a simple outline of what he wanted and let the best of writers and artists define the vision for the most part. Black Christian Super Hero, Super Hero SWAT, Black Cowboy Bloodwitch, Nordic Anti-Villainess with Ice Powers and Black Man Crashing Into Car is more or less the creative input he should have had; sadly, his egomania and lack of taste got the better of him.
Dam, I guess this means I gotta give Dick some credit.

The best thing of ISOM are the CG covers and the Redux that was made of the whole story by that one guy thats going to write Hellephant.
That rewrite was awesome. I'd buy that comic.
What does her blood do? Kill you? Make you sick? Go into anaphylactic shock? There are 3, going on 4 stories in this universe and we don't know anything about any of the characters. Not their powers, how they got their powers, their personal lives, nothing. A blank slate. Judging from the sales of Yaira, he's reached a point of diminishing returns (if his numbers are to be believed) because his next book will be 2/3 of Yaira sales. Even his die-hards are jumping ship. You can only sell the same junk so many times. Was there even a story in this?
I feel like for a project like this he should’ve outlined the whole story and then finished all 6 or 8 or 12 issues whatever then put it on sale. That way you can put out 1 every month or 2 weeks and then

What's the best part of ISOM #2? That's easy; the cover by Ethan Van Sciver. Toss the rest of the book. That said - the ISOM rewrite Ethan reviewed later is awesome!

I remember how hyped i was for isom like 3 years ago when comics were going down, and after 2 years i nearly forgotten about the comic until i decided to read it in a free comics site (they dont sell isom in my country and if they did it'll be a chore trying to find it since i rarely see indie comics) and feeling disappointed reading the first issue, i wondered myself if manga ruined my vision of comics but no isom just sucks, its all mindless yapping over nothing

Yellowflash was correct: no one walks away from EVS without triggering his obsessive revenge psychosis. He needs mental help. It's fine if you don't like something, but to expend this amount of energy is alarming and unhealthy. You don't like Isom, you don't like Eric, cool. Now, move on and be happy, be well.
I agree to a point, but this is also valid feedback amidst the bluster anyone starting a publishing business should receive and process (while biting down on your lip).
Even in his over-the-top-ness Ethan is one of a few people in this space that has the caché and creative experience (and heft...wokka wokka) from the inside that can send a brutal review where others might be intimidated by EJ's subscriber base.
Is it a bit much? Yeah... but in the end he offers many observations as food for thought, though i think in his mind he is being some kind of super troll by continuing to hammer a point to someone he showed sent a "night letter" to.
I, for one, am gearing up for the Mike S miller drop.

EVS is showing you a different point of view, get over it. He is an artist and a writer, he has a vantage point that you do not. Dick gave good notes, he has a different vantage point because he is a writer. Rekieta gave good art notes because he is someone who have a different vantage point, as someone who enjoys art. Lit Devil has a good quality review of ISOM, because he has a different vantage point as someone who actually makes reviews.
Nobody is triggered. We are getting more joy out of this, than we got paying almost 100$ to get shit slave labor books in our hands. Nobody hates Eric but then again, you think critiquing ISOM means they are directly attacking Eric because ISOM is a self insert right? Isnt this what SJWs do?

Literally EVERYONE walks away from CG with zero issues. The issues arise when they go around talking shit and cry when they get clap back as if being CG gave them some sort of shield. When did flash walk away? Was it when he fucked over his artist or when he deleted the CG artists group? Is that "walking away peacefully"? lol Dont be a fucking asshole if you dont want to get clowned on. All these youtubers are perpetual victims. They live on drama 24//7 then cry when theyre the target of said "drama" with their own fuck ups.
I agree I think. His critique of the book is spot on. But there is a kind of nastiness to it that makes me wonder what happened between these two. I say this as someone who is fairly new to CG
@@Ryan_Gutz what happened is over the years there have always been these people who claim to be all about the movement, who claim to be friends of EVS for clout. But the second it's no longer convenient, they backstab him. It's happened with lots of comic book artists wanting g to use EVS for funding. Even Yellow Flash had convinced EVS to help him with his new book eventually but then YellowFlash went and revealed his freelance rates to the public, deleted the ComicsGate community group and started talking mad shit about crowdfunding. Yellow Flash had an artist working for almost a year without pay to finish HIS book and claims "it's ok because we are co owners and he owns half". The artist had his house flooded and during Xmas was broke. YellowFlash still didn't want to pay him but CG had to step in and send him some money so his kids could have Xmas. There is a big ego issue with a lot of UA-camrs who talk shit about CG behind the scenes because they have more subs than them and all they do is drama farm the main stream. When CG propel actually produce products that are worth something outside the gossip circle jerks regular UA-camrs do. People say "UA-camrs provide entertainment" yeah some of them do. But not any different than comic artists who ALSO UA-cam. So they're redundant. They spend their whole life drama farming anyone and everything and the second someone does it do them, it's like they fucked their mom with in front of them. Yellow Flash also sided with Rippa, a guy that threatened to bring consequences to EVS if he didn't agree with him 100%. Rippa claims he didn't do that. But then we see that Rippa quite literally is doing everything he threatened to do. Rippa gaslights the FUCK out of everything that happens and that pisses off EVS because that's what the mainstream did to everyone. YellowFlash took advantage of a desperate artist and is talking shit about crowdfunding so now the artist has no choice but to finish his book or it'll be a year down the drain. All because Yellow Flags wanted to look good for Rippa. If Yellow Flash wasn't such a backstabbing snake, he would have done a crowdfunding campaign with the worm his artist has done and gotten him some money so he could work on it full time and feed his family.
