The Alpha Core guy is just Isom with a different name. He acts like him, talks exactly like him, beats everyone he meets up without being provoked. Also shows no compassion or sympathy for anyone. ISOM to a "T".

The one great benefit to Eric's comics is that it has given me a big boost in confidence as a writer. Because I could probably with very little effort make the characters a bit more fun to be around. Not better but just a little more fun than... whatever Eric was thinking with the heroes.

Shame the story was mid and derivative, even for the great Chuck Dixon; can't all be perfect - only as good as the source material. Also, shame about Joe Bennett's great art ruined by terrible colors. At least no apparent 3D renders. A step in the right direction.
Still, two shames + $35 dollars = zero value. Another "success" for the RipOffVerse. We all know big money = greatness, as genERIC fan's like to remind us.
But that being said, I know Yaira will fix everything! 🤣Those sassy Soska's Sisters are going to work their magic on this book! Looking so forward to that review! Cheers!

Is it supposed to be Alpha Corps? Alphacore sounds like a band name or a tech company. Alpha Corps. sounds like a group of soldiers or something, like the Marine Corps or Green Lantern Corps. It just feels like it should be Alpha Corps if they want to evoke that kind of imagery.
Edit: But I guess the Green Lanterns do have an Alpha Lantern Corps. Maybe Eric didn't want to seem like he was ripping that off?

10:06 “It’s easy to write hatred. It’s hard to write tenderness and friendliness.”
Maybe because many people thought that writing hatred and edgy stuff will make them “mature” while in fact, it just makes them creatively bankrupt.

This is really insightful. Ethan, I'm an author who is trying to get into writing comics professionally. I've been networking with other creators on LinkedIn, people in general on Twitter, doing a little here and there on Facebook & Slasher. This year the first comic that I wrote/released was ZORRO KILLS #1 which was put on ice due to trademark. It's a shame. It's about Zorro hunting down, slashing up, maiming, and killing child-trafficking pedophiles. Next came my totally kid-friendly comic CAT & MOUSE #1. It features Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Felix The Cat, Osward The Lucky Rabbit, Snuffy Smith, Betty Boop, Bigfoot, The Cheshire Cat, Bluto, Captain Hook, The Fox from Pinocchio (Honest John), etc. Then I have a satirical Mad Magazine-esk one known as PROPAGANDA COMICS #1. Finally, there's LARRY BOGUS: BOWLED OVER. So, all of these that are out are within the humor category.
Right now, I have an artist working on the interior of HELLFIRE #1 + SMALLDOG #1. I plan to have HELLFIRE #1-5 out by the end of 2025. The 2nd comic that they'll have in it will bounce back and forth between SMALLDOG & HOLY GHOST EXORCIST. All of those are set in the 1970s. Anyway, this is me trying to introduce myself to you - let you know what is going on and everything. I pay for all of this out of pocket. My comics are all print on demand & digital. My overhead is low. I'd love to send you some stuff to look at, talk, and everything. Best wishes.

So basically the "heroes" fuck around and act like chumps and accomplish nothing, and the only actual heroic person gets killed off? Wow. Eric might want to go back and re-evaluate... whatever the hell he's doing.

Is the plot going anywhere even if the characters and coloring are a bit sheite? I’ve read other comics that started with very unlikeable characters (such as Planetary) that turned out very good in the end. I guess it doesn’t really matter though, im out of the rippaverse after reading the first isom

I think the hate dialogue brings me back to 1980s action movies where everyone has to have a funny line that puts another person down. Alphas are dominant man. Only the femboy character from an anime can calm them down. When the alpha shows softness in front of the other guys he loses control of those men because they will not take order from a weakling. IE go back to Generation 1 Transformers and watch the episode where the Dinobots will not take order from Optimus Prime until the point where Optimus Prime saves Grimlocks butt. If Grimlock ever shows weakness the other dinos will not take orders from him out of disgust. So the tough macho guy attitude is necessary to keep them in line.
A heroic Alpha is a character like Duke Nukem (from the duke nukem games) who is funny and loves the violence but doesn't take his enemy seriously enough for them to be threats. These are not alphas but heroes who like to be badasses and just work solo. (I think they are called Sigmas because they don't need a team to help them) The difference between a heroic alpha and a alpha is the hero always breaks the rules because he is the "lone gunman" that can protect a town when the town cannot handle all the bandits and are too scared to fight back so they call on an outsider. This is the character we all aspire to be: the guy that doesn't need a team. The guy who isn't attached to the people in the town (no romance, just sex, since heroes have adventures to go on and don't want nagging women to tie them down to other responsibilities since its bad luck) and is risk taker because nothing is too dangerous for an adventurer. There is no need for a sigma male to get permission to do anything. They are rockstars so creativity allows them to approach problems that the alphas won't think of.
Sigmas: Conan The Barbarian, Batman, James Bond, Duke Nukem, John Rambo, John Wick. The 1980s was full of action hero that singlehandedly takes out all the bad guy's goons. Over time people wanted more realism so we have more teamwork which means less "rebel" behavior and more co-operation with the authorities and doing things by the book. (1990s was when clinton was in power so many liberals wanted the tough guy macho man to be put away in a closet forgotten and to stop having such big muscles, however comic books were behind by a decade and kept them. This is why you see the steroid-abusing, cigar-smoking bad ass with a big gun still in comics.) Think of the 1990s was when Oprah Winfrey wanted men to get in touch with their feelings and read New Age books and be sensitive. It doesn't work. You still see men today watch violent sports like MMA fights. We just had to pretend we were sensitive to get the new age hippie chick into bed.

Which is when comics were at their best!! The late 80s to the mid 00's was called the Golden Age of comics for a reason and it is something that a lot of Manga and French Bande Dessinée emulate today. Which is why they are still current making tons of money as Western comics die.

Hey, Ethan I've heard you've written and drawn a lot of comics, so I was curious how do you script a comic book anyway I've written a screenplay before but I'm certain a way a comic is written out is way different.

    • @whosaidthat84

Ive looked into it and there doesn't seem to be a universal format. I think one way is how movie storyboards are done. Make a bunch of squares and write what you want to be seen in each one

    • @hobbes4011
      @hobbes4011 10 хвилин тому

It's pretty much the same as scripting for a movie or play. the only real difference format-wise is that your writing what's in each panel instead of just the scene as a whole. Example would be something like, page 01 (X panels) panel 01:description/dialogue/notes. rinse and repeat for each panel. You can really do whatever is most comfortable though, however if you're not experienced the above format is probably the easiest to use as it's the most structured.

That’s interesting how for the most part the art was really good with a few hiccups (thankfully it’s not 3D models😂. That kind of thing would be perfectly fine if we were talking about some kid on Deviantart making a clip art fanfic based on something he likes. ISOM on the other hand is an overpriced product and there’s zero excuse). Too bad the bizarre coloring ruined the big aspects.
I’m of the opinion that a story with bootleg heroes who are all terrible people could work if this was something like The Boys or Invincible where it’s a genuinely good deconstruction that reinterprets super heroes in a dark and gritty way. The Invincible show is really good. Can’t speak on The Boys since I haven’t watched it, but from what I’ve seen it’s interesting. If genERIC (I LOVE that nickname🤣) made something like that it would at least be interesting. Brandon Sanderson’s Steelheart books are an interesting super hero deconstruction (only read the first book. The main character was really annoying, but the rest of the book was really good and I liked what they did with the ending).

The "art" is nauseating; it makes the worst Italian Mannerism look tasteful by comparison. This kind of stuff is why I gave up on comics years ago. The interactions between all the unpleasant, tough-talking characters are obviously modeled on generic action movies, because it's precisely the same crap you see in that genre. Everyone is crude and stupid and nasty and insulting, and there's no discernible difference between the heroes and the villains.
