The highly anticipated magical sound and sighting of a DPU, and then a fast south bound Amtrack enters the scene. Absolute Perfection
Always know there’s a DPU before you even see it because it’s loud. Always know there’s an Amtrak coming before you see it because they always do hornshows!
@@BurkeRailfan exactly , sometimes the lead motive power gives a clue a DPU is coming up. That was perfect catch. The angle was spot on

This was awesome. Keep rewinding back to 1:40. You caught the middle engine right when the second Amtrak arrives. I love the look of Amfleet coaches although they are old.

With the length of your US trains, that third one could have appeared at any time. What luck to pass just as mid freight loco was there. Great timing. A log of those freight cars sounded like they could do with a big of tyre turning, flat spots galore!

oh wow I did not know the NE regional went beyond the electrified section. Would be great to have the track quality and room of the NE Corridor all the way to FL so Amtrak could run 150mph Acela the full length of the coast.
They switch to the diesel-electric engines at Union Station in DC before continuing south. I think they to put in the 70mph-80mph range between DC and Richmond.

The Auto Train was adding the last few autoracks at the rear end, and also had to wait for the Amtrak 157.
So happy to see many trains! More trains, less cars!

Can't wait for the dedicated passenger tracks to be built! Hopefully we'll get less Amtrak trains sitting in sidings, causing longer trips

@@rxndomjit I can say its nice from Philadelphia to Boston, triple digit speeds most of the way save for Connecticut where its got a lot of curves.

Took an Amtrak from Houston to Oregon via LA. The train getting into LA was 4 1/2 hours late because we had to pull over, just like this parked one, for the railroad trains as they own the rails. That sucked.
That’s unfortunate about your long delay. This train that was stopped was actually the Auto Train and was just getting ready to leave the station for an on time departure, but it did have to wait for the other Amtrak to pass. The lead out tracks it was on end and connect into the mainline just a few hundred yards in front of it.
Auto train has pulled out of the terminal waiting for clearance to get on the main.

They were adding the last cars to the consist before it departed for Florida, and had to wait for the Amtrak.
I know that area VERY well! Would be where a ready mix concrete plant is!
That’s right where it is. A great spot to railfan.

This is off Gunston Cove Rd just south of the Auto Train Station. Offers great views!

How come the auto train is on hold, but the North East Regional train blew right through?
The Auto Train was still getting ready for an on-time departure. It had just made its move to this lead-out for final checks and having the last cars added to the consist. The lead-out ends and connects to the mainline just off screen to the right. The Northeast Regional often goes by around this time. What was unusual was the northbound CSX at the exact right moment!
I have to assume that this is the same line that goes through Ashland where the Cams are
Yes it’s the RF&P Subdivision, about two hours north of Ashland.
@@BurkeRailfan I'm not familiar with the area but do know that they're called M2 and M3 in Ashland. The first time I saw "Amtrak on M3", I was thinking wait, am I missing something?
