Last episode Peridot didn’t understand the Crystal Gems. This episode everyone, including the viewer, doesn’t understand Peridot. She was never NOT on our side. The whole time she was trying to say her plan was to go to the top and get the supreme leader, who is OBVIOUSLY going to understand because she’s PERFECT, then we don’t even NEED to build the drill! The most efficient plan!
Thank you! Peridot's actions are misguided, never malevolent. She genuinely thought she could reason with Yellow Diamond, having this idealized perception of her, only to have that shattered the moment her "Most perfect, most reasonable, rational, efficient decider ever to exist in the universe" told her she doesn't care about potential and resources. Not to mention she was only using the fact that Earth had that potential in an attempt to reason with Yellow Diamond, not because she wanted to enslave the planet.
The thing I like about this episode is you can see the clear reason why Peridot talked back to yellow diamond. She thought yellow diamond was a completely logical orderly being, but her wanting to destroy the entire earth is illogical to Peridot. It shattered that flawless perception Peridot had of her.
"She a little confused but she got spirit" is Peridot in a nutshell this episode. Peridot is a good egg, and she tried to solve the issue of the cluster in the most direct way she thought possible, consulting with Yellow Diamond personally. It completely backfired, but she was never against the Crystal Gems. Deep down inside, she's a good person and couldn't betray her new friends. :)
6:16 she was't going to enslave the planet, she was going to say that she came up with a few ideas to use the planet without destroying or messing with the local eko system, which also would have included Humanity
Can you imagine one of the most "perfect and logic" beings doesn't care about the resources of a potencial colony just because of his feeling? Peridot it's not just trying to save the planet, She is watching her entire reality be destroyed as she sees that her diamond, her perfect leader, does not care about the objectivity of her mission, thats why she defend her point, even if that means face the maximum authority What a great episode!!!
@@berybluu6081 Yellow diamond (and blue) Not counting this episode, have always been shown as enormous, so big that their pearls fit in their hands very easily, but in this episode YD isn't as big as she is shown later, as her pearl was the same height as her boots
@@Joss_star. This show has always had size consistency issues even during its beginnings, so that's understandable. One of the ones that always sticks out in my mind is *SPOILERS* The next time we go back to the moon base and the crystal gems ask Peridot and Lapis if they want to come, Peridot is for some reason the exact same height as Lapis which we all know is SUPER wrong. XD
The title of this episode feels like it has a nice double meaning, like "Message Received" as in, Yellow Diamond receiving the message from Peridot, but also cause it's the reveal for us the audience, the Crystal Gems, and kinda Peridot herself, that all the things the Crystal Gems have been trying to teach her actually HAVE been sinking in- she did receive their message. Peridot really only ended up calling Yellow Diamond cause she truly believed Yellow Diamond would save everyone- cause to her, Yellow Diamond was the wisest and most logical person there is, so clearly she'd listen to her report and do the right thing. And she didn't tell the Crystal Gems about this plan cause she knew they didn't "know" Yellow Diamond like she did. So of course, when it dawns on Peridot that Yellow Diamond is in fact, not just acting on logic, and really appears to be more petty than anything, not just harming earth, but also depriving gemkind of potential resources, it drove Peridot to that emotional outburst. (Also fun detail: Peridot initally just introducing herself as Peridot, and getting flustered when she's asked "which" Peridot she is, possibly having kinda gotten used to being treated more like an individual on earth.)
I love that Peridot's whole thing is logic, and that she thinks Yellow Diamond is the most logical being in the universe. So when she realizes they can get more out of the earth without hurting it, she assumes the leader who she sees as so logical will also understand. But the illusion of the rational Yellow Diamond is shattered when she says "i don't care about potential and resources, i want my weapon and i want that planet to die". That is an irrational, purely emotions-based statement, and in that moment Peridot's whole view of Yellow Diamond is destroyed. It's such a well written scene.
This was the Gem equivalent of "If only Stalin knew" as you were being dragged away to your execution in 1930s Soviet Union. Peridot had been created to know only that the Diamond Authority were the ultimate in rational beings, and that Yellow Diamond was merely being misinformed by lower incompetents about the value of Earth. She actually seemed to be connecting dots beforehand in When It Rains as she concluded that the Diamonds had abandoned the idea of the Earth becoming a viable Gem colony, and must have realized that she had been lied to about why Gems had been wiped out on Earth...before first encountering Steven she'd known nothing about the Gem Empire's greatest debacle thanks to the Crystal Gems and their rebellion.
I wouldn't exactly say Peridot had a change of heart in this episode. Asking yellow diamond to terminate the cluster wasn't a sudden decision. It was why she took the communication device in the first place. Its more like she finally got confronted with a contradiction that she didn't expect. Peridot has always thought the diamonds (especially yellow diamond) were perfect beings. The Crystal Gems taught peridot that the earth was worth protecting but they didn't really challenge that belief. In Peridots mind Yellow Diamond was this perfectly logical being who just didn't know enough about earth to realize its value.
Ok so, this last 2 episode were the “season finale” you’re referring to Next one isn’t a story related one However season 3 start with straight bangers, so look up to it Nice reaction as always
Peridot wasn't suggesting they would enslave the earth, she was suggesting that they collect resources from it (like minerals and stuff) without disrupting the local life on it. She was loyal to yellow diamond, but her realization was when yellow diamond didn't like the idea. Yellow diamond's emotions ruled out reason. that's when Peridot started to question her, because why would her all powerful perfect diamond not listen to reason?

What a great episode!!!
What's funny about yellow diamond's appearance in this episode:
She is just like half as big as she normally is in every other appearance she has

Never meet your heroes, Peridot. Especially if they also happen to be your king.

I loved Peridot's burst of anger and frustration. Tbh, that was the funniest thing to me in this series.
4:27 Actually, he did use his shield as a weapon against Peridot back in Friend Ship.
Blue Diamond: Uhmmm... Why was Yellow so angry while walking?
Yellow Pearl: Well.... Ehm.. she was called... "CLOD".
Meet Yellow Diamond. One of the most dangerous diamonds.
7:45 probably bubble also took some damage.
7:02 I mean of course, what I get is that was basically like calling your warlord queen a peasant

So just a little FYI, S2 and 3 were originally paired together as one 50 episode season just like S1, and the same also goes for S4 and 5.
yea it definitely seemed that way lol

Yessss diamond reveal time
Goatdot, this episode made her one of my favorites

One of my favorite episodes
ITS TIME AHHHH
Next Episode Season 2 Finale:
Log Date: 7 15 2
and so it begins....
this is happy news
Is this the first appearance of Yellow Diamond?
Also 7:03 perfect thumbnail shot
The first "live" appearance in-series, but there was the mysterious glimpse of her previously in the extended intro short.
Great reaction!
I really like this episode!
CLOD!
