- It's not the oldest fire station in the Buffalo Fire Department but it is one of the most spectacular. Firefighter James Rice says "It was built during Buffalo's industrial era...they were very proud of their fire service and fire departments."
MY STREET MY FIRE STATION!!!. The greatest childhood thrill was getting to ring the bell lol!!!
This was one of four houses built in that period. The other three are:
Engine 25 at Seneca and Southside-first to be demolished when the (then) new multibay firehouse and attached Pct. 9 police station were completed in 1960
Engine 26 on Tonawanda St.-still active as well
and
Engine 27 at 33 Johnson St.-Engine 27 was disbanded in 1978 to form Rescue 1 and in 1982, moved in with Engine 3 at their new quarters on Broadway at Monroe. The old house was abandoned and then finally demolished in the early 90s.

Still using 100 year old firehouses is stupid. Just like using 15 year old plus engines as primary response.
It's only stupid if you don't modify it up to modern standards. Contrary to popular belief, new firehouses aren't great. I would know, I was stationed at a Taj Mahal that had no character and a ton of cheap corners cut
Many cities have stations that are around 100 years old. Chicago,Boston, Baltimore,New York. The older cities can't just build new stations. Due to lack of land to build. Expansion is not always possible for the same reason. As long as the building is properly maintained no issues with older buildings. As far as equipment age. Fire apparatus has a 15 to 20 year life expectancy. 15 years is on the older side. Some departments use older units as reserve equipment others replace at 10-15 years. Some departments have units that are 30 years old in first line. This includes paid and volunteer departments. Not all departments can afford to replace till necessary. It takes 2-3 years to spec,bid,build and receive new units.

we have many large stations which are in use well more than 100 years as well. Of course it takes some effort to upgrade them to modern standards, as large modern fire trucks are quite a bit different that horse drawn carts, and also safety and contamination standards are very different today compared to what they were only few decades, ago.
Nothing wrong with a 15 year old fire truck as long as its kept in good condition and is well maintained. Fire trucks barely drive long distances, even decades old fire trucks often have rather low mileage
