I used to mess around with BPM when I made beats on MTV's Music Generator on my PS2. It always amazed me how much the BPM changed the entire mood of my song. Sometimes even the music genre would change! I made indie rock, Hip-Hop and techno songs, and often times they'd become interchangeable with just a BPM shift. Fun times!

When you get to a creative point where you are uninhibited by comparisons to others and the fear of sounding silly, you don't have to think about the decisions this much. Tyler just did this shit without thinking this deeply about it, I promise you. That's because he doesn't give a shit about what anyone else thinks and knows what he wants, which has nothing to do with what anyone else wants. That is what artists should be aspiring to. Not coming up with insane production ideas that somehow work, but getting to a point of being completely uninhibited by your own mind so you are free to actually create rather than regurgitate and overthink. That is when the real insane ideas come easily, and before you know it you're watching someone break down your choices as genius when you just did it without even thinking about it like that.

great video!! something i noticed which has always really stuck with me with tyler's production is his controlled distortion/emphasis on bass in some parts. in MANIFESTO from CMIYGL, when Domo Genesis says "cover me i'm going in" 44 secs in, there's an extremely effective distortion yet it stays so clean. or in the second half of "I killed you" from CHROMAKOPIA, that bass hit which comes every 4 bars just makes the song so groovy (1min29 onwards). i have always wondered about how he achieves this punch in his drums? because they have this tamed distortion which clips so perfectly it intrigues me
