- The JVC GY-LS300 4KCAM Handheld S35mm Camcorder is a super 35 cinema camera that can take almost any lens from any brand with the appropriate adapter because it has a micro four thirds lens mount and most lens types can be adapted to micro four thirds. Yes it has an APSC super 35 sensor. It can output HDMI, SDI and shoot 4k and output 4:2:2. It has all the same pro features as similar cinema cameras like the Sony FS5 and FX6 and Canon C300, C500 etc but at almost one third the price! Here are sample video clips using micro four thirds lenses.

As a JVC LS300 user I can confirm that this is an incredible camera. I love the Sigma 16, 30, and 56 f1.4 trio on it. But that mount means that it can use almost any lens via adapters and speedboosters. It can be vintage heaven. The footage out of it is gorgeous. I love it.
Hi,
Can I ask, what's the autofocus like?
@@bluteyIt’s a filmmakers camera not a UA-camr, more along the lines of Blackmagic | Z Cam | RED. No one buys these cameras for auto-focus, they buy them for serious filmmaking, cinema aspirations, or as a studio workhorse. Though they can be used for anything in the hands of a very capable or skilled operator, which is true of any camera…
🤔
Er..that didn't answer the question. Just wanted to know if I were ever to buy one. It was a genuine question. Have you ever used one? If so, what's the AF like?@@superzero4250
@@superzero4250so the autofocus is sh** 😂
@@Radelbande Most likely, but that also separates the truly talented and skilled professionals from those who simple are NOT…
Realistically, that’s the industry…
😏
Nobody gives you enough credit for those cool paisley shirts
I do.
I want him to start a fashion brand.
Would look ace with a bigger collar a cravat
Markus knows he looks good.
I want that shirt.
Markus, you are one of the most knowledgeable & wholesome filmmaker/camera gear "nerds" on UA-cam. Thank you for your content, it's always a pleasure to watch your videos, and how you just teach others without that usual UA-camr goal of spitting out tons of videos just to insert sponsored ads. (I get for some of them it's their job, but it's refreshing how you are way more authentic & experienced).
Man, it's been about 4-5 years watching you and beeing amazed about your approach, about your ingenious solutions, about that whole bunch of tip & tricks you generously share with us. It is always a pleasure to watch you and your work is much appreciated! Keep it up man! You're amazing! Tons of love from Romania! ❤
Hooray, I've been using one for 3 years and it's bloody brilliant. Have shot dozens of broadcast TV shows plus music vids in the UK. The Olympus 12-40 F2.8 pro is fantastic on it. And I used the Olympus 45mm F1.8 on a music video shoot on Monday. I use Lumix G Vario PZ 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S when I need image stabilisation.
Its so small and light I can take my full interview set up on public transport in London for shoots.
Whoever the lucky winner is, they will find just how good the image quality is, how easy it is to learn and how much fun you can have with it.. Glad it's getting some love finally.
Ditto. I love my one. It is crazy good.
If I could get my hands on this camera, this would be life changing! Best of luck to everyone, and thank you Markus for giving an opportunity to folks who are struggling, you're the kind of human being we should all aspire to be.
Great overview of what I believe to be a vastly under rated camera. I’ve used these several times and always gotten great results. They are not point and shoot, although you can use them in full auto mode, but the results you get with a little set up time are fantastic! I always appreciate your approach to creating quality photos and videos with affordable equipment.
As always thank you for wanting to share your passion with the world. My 9 year old son Nickoli watches me watch you and he helps me all your tips and tricks while I'm taking photos and making videos. THANK YOU. YOU'RE BRINGING FAMILIES CLOSER TOGETHER WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING IT.
There's a really good bit of history behind JVC (short for Japan Victor Company) which was a Japanese brand owned by JVCKenwood. I owned a few Kenwood audio devices and was always pleased with the quality. Thanks Mr. Markus for reminding me about the LS300.
Many 'brands' used to mean something. I agree about Kenwood, for example... but nowadays, you have to be VERY CAREFUL about buying something based on brands... many of which have been purchased by Chinese parent companies -- that is to say, they simply stamp a name on something, so the brands you love no longer mean a damn thing.
At last, one guy still makes his mind work in sync with job and gears. Kudos
Markus, I used to use shoulder cams back in the 3-chip analog days. After two decades in limbo your videos starting with the Samsung NX3 have inspired me to go back doing what I love. This would be the perfect camcorder for my chamber plays.
Once again thanks for all you do in teaching and supporting amateur photographers/videographers out here! Have a great weekend.
Thanks for the great review! I'm a retired TV guy and enjoy keeping up with tech. I loved my old JVC GY-DV500 PROFESSIONAL DV camcorder back in the day! I have mostly shot with Sony and Panasonic DSLRs since those days, but have been looking for a good, inexpensive cinema camera to shoot a documentary film in Africa in June. This would be a perfect camera for that since I still have a complete set of JVC primes. Keep up the great work. You made my day!
Thank you for shining a light on this camera! I've been looking into every possible option for shooting my first (microbudget) feature but somehow missed this in my research. The option for being able to use so many affordable lenses makes it very appealing.
It's only 8bit and quite large compared to mirrorless bodies, so things to keep in mind. Personally I'd take a GH5s over an LS300. (I own several of each)
I’ve never been more eager for the results of a giveaway. This is by far the coolest thing you’ve had on your show that I’ve seen. That sensor is incredible and the fact it’s capable of zooming in and using 16mm film lenses, so cool!
Ran across one of your videos learning about off camera flash. (Im a video guy) i didn’t even realize you had so much content on videography. Honestly really enjoy the way your content is delivered, seems very genuine. I don’t know if it’s the way you talk or that hair style but thanks for keeping it 100 with us.
I m always impressed what kind of gear you come up with. I think we have to think more out of the box . It is not the brand and not the newest and most expensive gear who will provide the best looking footage . It will be you and the camera you can afford. Thank you Marcus sharing your experience with us.
Very practical, concise, wise, and informative video. It's the big-picture view which allows us to reframe the whole aspect of what we would like to accomplish and enable thoughtful consideration. Thumbs up!👍
Another ripper video. You bring joy Markus, thanks.
Your vibe is everything, Markus!
I really enjoyed this video. I love that you shared this for those of us that are into video but maybe haven't found the right choice. The fact that it is so affordable and adaptable is the kind of inside knowledge that I've been seeking. Thanks. Also, you are a great personality and enjoyable to watch. And consider me a subscriber for life.
You're very generous Marcus. I hope a movie course student wins it. It looks really fantastic. People underestimate I think how weight is a big factor in camera choice. You're a pro, so I defer to your opinion and I'm happy that I agree with it. The smaller and lighter the better. Good luck to the winner !
Man, I've looked into JVC cameras a couple of times, but have yet to buy/afford one.
I appreciate you showing us what can be had out there at a reasonable price!
Now I'm going to go into your archive to see what affordable lighting solutions there may be?!
Thanks Markus, keep it up!
You are the smartest modern camera rig knowing I have seen in my life.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for all your efforts to inform and including us in your art.
Thanks Marcus, I am glad I found your channel, I have learned so much from watching your videos.. You always explain things in the most pleasent way. and you keep it clear and simple without all the complicated tech talk. 🙌
Thank you for the video and the generosity of giving it away. You are a blessing to us camera folk.
Love the footage coming out of this camera. And really like your content - keep up the good work, youre one of a kind on youtube! Always looking fw to the next video you drop here...😊
Thanks Markus, I'm giddy at the idea of digging up my old micro 4/3 lenses to try with this! Been doing the full frame thing for a bit but excited to go back and try glass that's simpler/smaller.
I love your videos. it's so funny to me that you have access to all these cameras and lenses but you make the videos with what seems to be point and shoot cameras. well done. I always say that the content of the video is so much more important than the gear you use to make the video.
I’ve been eyeing on this camera ever since you made that first video comparing cinema cameras. Thank you for your videos Markus.
Peace
That is beautiful camera. Blows my mind that the image is coming from APSC sensor and using MFT mount.
That's a heck of a cinema camera. I like that they went with m4/3s mount.
Hi Markus, so many of us that are subscribers to your channel share the same affliction as you. We love cameras and it doesn't matter from what manufacturer. I appreciate that you remind us of that. There are so many brand name snobs out there. Thanks for the heads up on the 300. That's one I haven't come across.
Ive always wondered about this camera being that it is more affordable. The picture looks amazing.. Thanks for the review.
Those clips with the different lenses are beautiful. I like my micro 4/3 lenses. Thanks for the heads up!
Just found your channel. Nice video reviewing an older camera, showcasing a lot of its versatility. Appreciate the footage and your ability to explain the value. Keep up the good work!
I always enjoy your reviews of stuff that we can afford. Many thanks!!!
I didn’t even know the camera existed. Thank you for your videos and the kindness of sharing your experience and equipment
This is why I like this channel so so so much!, I really like your mindset Markus, thanks for so valuable information. A friend of mine and myself were discussing about what camera can shoot a feature film without breaking the bank and this one fits 100%!!! We would like to make a film about URRACÁ which was an Indian Chief here in Panama. Bests regards from your Venezuelan friend in Panama!
A friend of mine and myself

Vanakkam 🙏 brother! I am from India I've been following your channel for several years, i didn't know you give away cameras. I am glad to see your doing this. I am a freelancer have a canon 7D which is my first camera, bought it 13 years back and still using the same camera. I would really want to switch to proper cinema camera for many years but still its a dream. I wish i watched this video before because i landed on your website and saw its already gone away. I am happy for the luckiest one who got this. Thank you for your great charity work brother 🙏 you have such a big heart than this big camera sensors 😊. Thank you again for your kindness and brotherhood/ motherhood!
Great video as always. You don't always have to look fancy if you know what you are doing with the cheaper cameras.
I love your philosophy about keeping it simple (so that you concentrate on the subject, creativity of shooting) without wasting time on so many peripheral attachments. and Yes, I did use the JVC LS 300 and the image was better than the big names that everyone goes for. (manual focus, but so what ?)
Always was interested in this camera since it was unveiled years ago, just never had the chance to play with one. Loved the idea behind though and wish they kept the line going! Great stuff!
Oh dang!! This is Awesome. I have been looking for my first cinema camera for school. Thanks for the tips Markus.
Always enjoy watching your videos, even if they about something I'd never try or do!
Looks great! I love micro 4/3 lenses. Went to a baseball game with the 100-300mm Lumix and did not get kicked out. Got great footage on my old Panasonic camera.
Bless you for giving away the camera. Seems like a beast of a camera
Thank you for sharing I never thought about 4/3 for video but now you got me thinking! Thank you Markus and congrats to the winner 👍👍👍
youre one of the most authentic people on youtube and in general
I really dig your passion for cinema. Your presentation is so dope!
Hey Markus, love your knowledge and enthusiasm about photography and videography. This JVC Cinema camera is impressive. Someone is going to love this :)
I get so excited when I see you have a new video out knowing I will get to see some more amazing kit to drool over and add to my vision board. 😋 I'm not in the US so never get the chance to enter your give-aways, but really appreciate all the time you spend making all these videos. Thanks Markus.

That Olympus lens is my favorite and very high quality for the price. It's the lens that's still keeping my GH5 alive!
Fantastic!!! I'm always grateful for your expert knowledge, and willingness to share it with all of us!!! Thank YOU!!! ❤
Awesome review, I love the multiple lens video capture tests. All of them looked great. At some point, i need to grab one of these.
your energy is beatiful man!!!! especially your very ending statement, I really hope it gets in the hands of someone who really really needs !!!!! God Bless
I have never even heard of that camera. It is a really cool camera with a lot of perks... I entered. I would love to use it to shoot some of the theater productions, and concerts I shoot! Crossing my fingers!
What an amazing camera! I could so use that! Thanks for helping the community!!
I enjoy your grounding approach.
Always love your vids!!! Thank you!!!
Id have not even considered a camera like this until I learned it was an mft mount. I shoot pretty much exclusively mft. Certainly camera's such as this are now on my radar. Thanks for the video and again, showing me something new!
This has all the MFT advantages, but the super35 sensor gets the most out of the mount. Something Marcus never mentioned is that the camera has a unique technology called Variable Scan Mapping, which means that the sensor can be used as super16 through MFT to super35. It opens up an amazing range of creative choices.
Marcus! Thanks for all of the great content!
That's really cool! Fantastic image quality, and you can get a lot of very budget friendly micro 4/3 lenses!
I was looking for jvc camera but man now im in love with you!
Thanks for bringing this camera to light! I've been looking for a new b-cam and you only ever see reviews for the big guys. I'm going to go digging to find out if this will work for me.
Magic Markus spreading the MOJO!!!! Thanks again for all the uploads
Love this guys energy and knowledge.
bro your video here just saved my budget! THANK. YOU!
Great video. Photography is fun! Thanks for all you do.
Thank you so much again for the information and how great this camera is and for the video!
OMG that is an awesome camera I currently do my filming with a DSLR (not full frame), thank you for sharing this with us Mark !! God Bless
Thanks for sharing the attributes of this camera. It seems to have great capabilities for the price, and I too like the plastic aspect since it cuts down on weight. Good job!
Feels like a good dose of Cinema Verite. Love the look of the footage. It's not artistic, it IS real.
I have so many questions. Mainly how have I never heard of this camera before today? Markus back at it again keeping it real
Wow! Great video as always!
It's so awesome you do these giveaways! As you said not everyone can afford them such an great thing you do on here lots of very useful info also thanks so much for it.
Looks like the old jvc cassette camcorder my parents had growing up 🎥 so rad! ✨
I own two and I'm sure you've seen my review "Taking a Second Look...", its good to see folks are still reviewing this awesome Cinema Camera!!! Brand New, about 9 years ago the camera sold for 3499.00 bucks and soon after rested at around 2999.99. I got my cheapest one brand new from B&H on sale for 1500!!! Many simply turned their noses up for two reasons, it was a JVC and it didn't shoot in 10bit. If JVC reintroduced this camera, with updated features like dual native ISO starting at around 800ISO, and a better viewfinder, they would see the shit out of this thing. The plastic used is actually really really good plastic, that as you said and metal is used in all the right places. There is a genius involved with how the Top Handle detaches, as you said making the camera much more inconspicuous. My take is that the camera was made about 7 years to early, cause its been my favorite to capture with!!! Great Review!!!
I can't even knock it for a lack of ten bit. UA-cam and most content distribution sites deliver in eight bit.
love the content . Amazing camera yet again
Love it! Have a bunch of M4/3 lenses that would be great on this. Thanks Markus!
Thanks for demo. Image looks great.
very informational video , you're the best Markus !
People always sleep on JVC and Panasonic. I don't know why. They have incredibly feature rich cameras. I guess autofocus and full frame are what people think they need.
Waw Glad you reviewed this camera, like your enthusiasm
I love your channel. I needed to get used to, now I dig how you do reviews.
I would be more then happy to give the LS300 a home it deserves and I gonna use it with my Sirui Anamorphic set too.
I have a collection or 4x 2015 Blackmagic Production Cameras too with 4K global shutter
Solid stuff as always Markus.
Now if I had to get a camcorder I would buy this one for shooting video the price is right it has all the bells and whistles I need and the greatest thing about it is you can use any lens on it from any manufacturer and it's also not to big or to small its just the right size so thanks markus pix for making this video i hope continue making videos like this one and get to a point where you show us a camcorder that is $600 and have all the pro features of a $3,000 camera because I know they're out there somewhere made by some company you just have to keep on looking.
Thank you again for sharing this opportunity!!!
I liked the barn wood. I got a good deal on enough to do the inside of my 30x40 garage to make it look like an old barn inside. Your great.
Love your vibe man! Subscribed ❤
The images look superb!!!
Awesome eye opening demo! Thanks so much!
When everyone is obsessed with full frame, megapixel, mirrorless, Marcus offers an alternative solution.
But at what cost? I am asking about picture quality.
@@boxoffisa Marcus isn't advocating using a camcorder for feature film, he is talking about videos for UA-cam and other social media platforns.
once again what an awesome video!! thank you for your insight!!
New subscriber - I'm learning a lot for sure! Thanks again and keep up the great work!
This looks like a TV show! Cool! Also, my first ever camera was my mom's JVC Mini DV something from the 2000s.
I love that he’s so real haha, “I like cheap plasticy stuff”
Thank you, Markus, for sharing this video! I've been watching your health channel for years and recently started watching your photography channel. I used to be a professional photographer before pursuing my music career. So, I know quite a bit about photography and lighting. I'm about to release a bunch of new music for 2024 and I need to make music videos to go with them. Hence, why I've been watching your photo channel. I just entered your contest and wanted you to know that the camera will be put to good use if I'm chosen. Wink wink. Lol... Cara and your health channel have helped me a lot over the years. I'm currently using some of your products to heal and restore my gut health. And I plan on doing a Parasite cleanse soon. I'm just prepping myself to get ready for it. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world via UA-cam. I feel lucky and blessed to have found you and Cara. Thank you!!
Thanks for this review and commentary. I was really surprised to see the quality level of the video! (your paisley shirt just pops!) And you are right, there was little visible difference between the side-by-side shots. I understand you being a "Sony Man", but damn, that JVC puts up a good fight, and for the price (and those who may be price-conscious) it's hard to beat!
