This flight of Discovery marked the last landing of the Shuttle at Edwards Air Force Base in California. Starting with the first Shuttle flight, STS 1 in April 1981, 54 missions landed there in 27 years. A lot of these Edwards landings were made because of bad weather in Florida and diversions to California were frequent.
Im glad to see what our swedish astronaut was doing in space :) the only thing I got to know was WHEN the launched to space an when he did the space walk. but now I know more of what he did :) thank you NASA for uploading this!
2:34 Third times the charm, well I'm from California and spent 3 days in a crappy motel with lizards running through the room right on the river with a direct view of the launch pad, hoping to see a magnificent night launch. I had to wake up 1 am in the morning to see it launch but it was going to be worth it. That launch was scrubbed but hey I was spending one more night but that was scrubbed to due to a problem refueling. I did get to see the launch only it was on my computer at home.
Here's my story for the landing, that day I was at KSC. The night before I was keeping everyone waiting to go for dinner, to see if Discovery came down. When it didn't I had high hopes to see the landing in person, but on the tour when we rech the SLF, we were told it was going to Edwards. But we saw the landing on TV in our hotel room.
