Great vid mate, just wondering how people diagnose a problem with the crank seal? I have a 2015 ranger and there is a bit of oil around that area, not sure if its a slow leak or someone spilt oil during a service. cheers
I have exactly the same engine and also had a belt go, I changed the belt and immediately noticed huge oil patches on the floor. I had assumed the bits of belt had whipped a hose and split it but I’ve been under there multiple times and didn’t find any splits, the fan has spread oil everywhere but it’s primarily where the turbo and alternator is making me think it could be turbo related, but the direction the fan spins throwing oil that way may be misleading me about location of the leak……. However!…. After watching this I went back and had a good close look at the drive shaft for the belt and behind the cog there’s pieces of belt stuck in there tight!!! Do you think I should remove the drive shaft cog and check that oil seal and remove the bits of belt at the same time??? I had found oil also on the sump around the drain hole but forwards momentum could have pushed oil backwards, there was no oil on there before the belt went so I’m now thinking this video is the answer. Any thoughts from anyone? I’m an engineer but not a mechanic so I’m pretty savvy. Ideally skilled mechanics woth years of experience comment please, I could do without a thousand wild goose chases. 😊
Take balancer off, 3 bolts. Check to see of crank seal is damaged. If it is and suspect belt/ seal material may have gone inside the timing case, then immediately pull the sump off and get rid of all debris and check if pick up strainer has not blown too. If it has blown, chances that it has made its way to oil cooler/ filter housing.
@@a1mechanicaloakey639 your an absolute superstar. I haven’t seen a continuous flow from there but I wonder if the bits of key wrapped around spinning are throwing the oil elsewhere as the oil is showing all over the engine bay between the fan housing and the engine itself in all directions. I’ll use the car for work and have a look in all the areas you suggest at the weekend. Hopefully the damage isn’t too deep. 🤞 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply so fast. @@a1mechanicaloakey639 ok will do that, I'm just tryna get the fan off at the moment, is it just the 3 bolts or do you have to undo the big nut in the middle?
Also how did you go taking the sump off when you only have 10min to change the oil as it doesn't self prime? You'd think removing the sump is gonna mess the 10min rule?
Depends which year. Only the early ones had that rule. But done it heaps of time. So far so good for me. There's ways to prime oil. Or simply crank till oil comes up.
Great video mate thanks for the information

Just visual inspection. Give it a wash and check back week later if it's a slow leak.
Very good thanks for sharing the video

If crank seal is damaged result of broken belt then you will have a massive oil leak, constant will engine is idling.

Awesome video and thanks for sharing 👍
Cool thanks 🙏
Can do it with a piece of wood, no need for a socket, hand works fine.
Hello how didnyoubremove the pulley
Remove three 15 mm bolts
@@a1mechanicaloakey639 you use a impact driver? Does the crank need to be locked...or will the impact tool work
They not very tight bolts. And no crank doesn't need to be locked.
Hi mate what is the torque spec for the crank bolt?
Aga daga
@@a1mechanicaloakey639 You mean Abracadabra?
Yeah she'll be alright.
But here's the specs 45Nm +120 degree
@@a1mechanicaloakey639 Cheers, I’m doing one this week 🤞
so did it work??
Yes
Mine had to be turned anti clockwise to tighten it
Going through this right now, belt went and done that same thing, oil leaking
Make sure you take the sump off and have a look at the pick up and any debris in the sump. Make sure pick up is not blown.

@@a1mechanicaloakey639 yeah mines 2012, px1. Bit concerned about removing the sump as I won't be able to prime it
quit moving the camera all over hell, and get with it.
You can come and hold my camera.
