I definitely get behind what you're saying to an extent, don't get me wrong, but.. It seems silly to me to suggest that in order to make an instructional piece of media around surviving "x" you must go into "x" in the probably worst case context one who'd be watching the media would go into it. It's kind of like teaching self defense. You don't ask for a female instructor who grabs up a purse, puts on a mini-skirt and goes walking dark alleys on the weekends.

Yes it's clearly staged, get over it. While it might look cheesy to many, others may have never known the solution and this might save their life someday. I for instance knew about the staying calm thing but never knew how crucial cleaning all the mud afterwards is.
Been there, Done that in Mexican desert stream sand. Stepped on what, from the surface, looked like a sand bar but, in reality, was sand buoyed by slight positive pore water pressure (underwater spring). It was like stepping into a swimming pool. No resistance at all. Fortunately, I was next to a rock ledge but, it was hard to get out because pulling out created suction on my body.. Fortunately, I was young (22) and strong but, I bloodied my fingertips getting out. I just wanted to note that this guy's recommendations are spot on! (old geologist)
Brooks Anderson wow! What a man. Thanks for the story! Btw, I'm a female. Just used my husbands profile. Didn't want you to think I was some "guy" getting dreamy eyed over your comment. Anyways, "what a man!"
Han Solo It was to teach others how to get out and what to do if it ever happened.. of course it was staged. "Let me put my life in danger for a UA-cam video." Yea...... no.
Basically what you do is wiggle your legs upward, after you've gotten to the edge and your hands are already out. Once your legs are out yiu can gradually pull yourself further out.
I seen a few videos but never done this myself so I am no expert. From what I can tell, you won' sink deeper than waist height because of the density of quicksand and so a human is naturally buoyant. Pretty important, because it means you can wiggle around a bit without worrying about sinking. The sand gets hard because you displace a lot of the water which makes you get encased like concrete. Wiggling helps soften the sand and let water turn it to mud so you can pull yourself out. it also appears this is how people fall into one. It looks solid at first but your movement over it causes the ground to soften into mud. As you wiggle, you can pull yourself out if at waist height. You should lay down flat as possible while you pull yourself out which increases the surface area and lower your ground pressure so you don't sink. It's the same logic why snow shoes don't sink into the snow. Likewise why tracked vehicles don't sink in mud but wheeled ones do. If only leg deep, you can wiggle one leg out, once that one is out kneel down and put all your weight on that one. Kneeling distribute your weight along its entire length, and putting your weight on that one helps you free your other one. Wiggle the other leg, pulling hard can cause injuries since its encased in sand. Once both legs is out, its best you crawl out so you have the lowest ground pressure possible and not sink.
I got caught in sludge in a marsh land and it was pulling me in further as I fought it. Than I realize it was better to stay calm as I made baby steps to get back on stable land. This did not happen in Africa, South America or even some jungle in Asia. It happened right across from Co-op city in New York City.
quick sand is mostly sand, clay, and sometimes saltwater.the saltwater and the pressure compressing the solids will only enable the sand to sink you up to the waist.quicksand hardens quickly,so wiggle your legs as if swimming upwards to free the water. once you can kick freely, lie on your back(you can float on it if you distribute your weight in a wide area).start to backstroke(it might seem stupid and hard, but it works out the water even more).once you reach the edge, don't try to stand up!shimmy towards solid and stable ground(remember to keep your head up). slowly get up and find water to wash off the gunk. *REMINDERS* remember to:STAY CALM!(vibrations free the water *around your body* [around includes the bottom, sinking you even more].),quicksand has a high viscosity (it gets really sticky),and if there is a friend or bystander nearby, ask them to contact emergency services or a life guard if you are at the beach( *DON'T ASK THEM TO PULL YOU OUT!!!!!!!* they could hurt, injure,or rupture the skin trapped in the quicksand, causing infection.).that's all😁
Me and my buddy when into muddy quicksand like this, we were just above waist deep and he's like " bro I can't get out come and help me " at this point we were both torso deep into it and the edge was 8 or so meters away from us. I get over to him and pull him up until he was knee deep but this causes me to sink even faster. I'm now upper torso deep (and inch or so from where my chest line starts) and he has just got out. We both look at each other and laugh and I pull myself up slightly by wriggling my head and chest on The quicksand. Torso deep again I am able to reach a large root that came out of the mud and with my fingertips pull myself back up to knee deep where I walk back to we're he was. We start walking back to our group and I look back to see the root sink into the quicksand. We were 14 years old.
Ive been in quicksand. Out exploring a swamp. Thought just soft mud, until i tried to get out. Each pull of my legs caused me to sink deeper. Sank to my waist in minutes. I admit i paniced and struggled. Luckily low over hanging branches were within reach. Thats how i got out.
Stay calm-DON'T panic, Wriggle your legs and only your legs don't touch it with any part of your body. once you wriggled you legs lay back and backstroke out don't ask someone to pull you!!
There are two types of quicksands, right? This is an example of surviving the mud one. But what about the other graver quicksand which is...... the _sand_ one? I personally think once you've fallen into it, it's an absolute checkmate.
More often than not, quicksand is basically mud. Dry quicksand is usually considered to be a myth, though supposedly scientists made some in a lab, but it's unknown how common it is.
What this guy failed to mention was that the human body is less dense than quicksand. So if you can make small movements to get yourself in a horizontal position, then you will be able to wiggle your way out.
During an athletic event, I ended up waist deep in mud, I was slow, therefore alone and the next wave of runners wasn't gonna show for another hour. I did exactly this, small rotations until I could feel my legs rising. Only difference was I was laying on my back, since the solid ground was behind me
my friend got stuck in quick sand one. me and my other friend were digging and digging to try and get her out. it didn't work. I said to my friend "keep digging, I'm getting help" I ran as fast as I possibly could to my parents and my friends parents, to out of breath to talk. I managed to say "sophie sinking in sand!" my dad got half way there when he realised a very kind genorous man had help free sophie from the sand and at this point the sand was just past her waist. she was very lucky that day and I'm so thankful that man was there to save her ❤

Mars Bars every tried standing in front of a wave? And not falling over? That's what quicksand is like, it's not like dirt, the shovel would he too hard to move and it would get stuck. Ok, maybe you're just a city person so you don't really know, if you ever go on a rainy trail and just stand in then mud for a bit, you'll realize that it actually takes a bit of effort to pull your foot out.
343 Industries then how did it get there?! It's next to a rock and an open mofo pond, how did it form there??? No. It is dug up by their team, the sun is above him so must have shot the segment midday, meaning all morning they were digging that shit up
better survival skill is to watch your step no matter where you are going. If you do fall into it, quickly spread yourself out, at which point you probably won't sink, since it's the vertical pose that puts all the stress onto your feet that penetrates the mud and sinks you. Depends on the density of the medium I think. What he got into looked like mud, you get out of that easy. You have to stay in the mud or wet sand even long enough to sink even a foot deep. I doubt anyone got killed by this bs. A tar pit might be a different story.
Matthew M Nope, suffocating is when you can't get any oxygen into your lungs, drowning is when you inhale a liquid. Examples: a plastic bag over your head is suffocating, breathing in water is drowning.
I know he mentioned the heat stroke bit but he could have also mentioned that it's physically impossible to sink and drown in quick sand. Buoyancy folks.

“Once you get your legs out” aren’t you skipping the part where we learn how to actually get out
He said that "the way out is staying calm and making small movements" He also mentioned that "fighting it will sunk him deeper"
The key is to get as close to the edge as you can level your chest out on the surface. Make small movements by wiggling your leg out to the surface.
Basically what you do is wiggle your legs upward, after you've gotten to the edge and your hands are already out. Once your legs are out yiu can gradually pull yourself further out.
