I once stepped on a patch of quicksand walking across a beach like that. It was a fair way out, too, so nobody within shouting distance, which could have gotten me into a really ugly pickle. Luckily, I had good reflexes: as soon as I felt my foot not meeting the expected resistance on the ground while taking a step, I shifted my weight to the back foot and got away without trouble. It felt a bit like missing a step, so it does wake you up to the situation and gets your reflexes going quite quickly, but I was lucky to notice the lack of firm ground while my weight was still balanced between both legs.

Just in case nobody has mentioned this and if anybody is interested .. that quaint village is called 'Arnside'. I've been there a couple of times. The village has a siren warning when the tide is coming in and if the conditions are right the siren can indicate that the Arnside Bore is approaching.
I actually find the subject and experiment just as interesting with out the dramatic music, black and white fade out and camera angle shift every 4 seconds...
Yeah, it was kind of reinforcing the idea of following the signs to avoid in the first place but they didn't do a great job of showing that explicitly.
I've been in this situation and it didn't take 8 minutes.... I jumped off a rock onto what looked like hard clay. I went straight through up to my waist and I absolutely couldn't move and was sinking deeper. My parents managed to pull me out of it but it was very scary indeed - I wouldn't try it.
They say you are never to old to learn something new, I just did, ..I thought it would've been just a few seconds before you are up to your chest, ...and when you are stuck, that it would've helped if you are laying on your back while you try to move your legs, this was insightful THANK YOU

Madara Ryuzaki Uhh... Animals arent over harvesting the oceans, leaking oil everywhere, and generaly just making asses of themselves like we are. When a particular species overpopulates, nature corrects and reigns it in. We've neutralized most natural influences that would do that, and we're clearly not intelligent enough to curb rampant breeding on our own... So...
Actually animals overkill other animals everyday. You just don't know about it because it's in the wild. All it takes is a little common sense not to spew out garbage that you have no knowledge about other then what you find on the Internet.
I knew of a young 15 or 16 year old lad who got trapped in quicksand on the coast near where I lived in UK. By the time the rescue services reached him it was up passed his chest. They couldn't get him out and as he could hardly breath they gave him oxygen until he was submerged. It shook me up thinking about that poor young terrified kid.

i got myself into quicksand once when i was around 10, but lucky i was light and i didn't sink too deep, and i thank god that my mom buys me every book i want, which include an outdoor survival book, so i laid on my chest and pull myself out, but i lost one shoe(could have digged it out but i was so scared i couldn't run away from that place quick enough let alone digging the shoe lol). Anyway it was scary, then i told my mom about it, and nobody believes me that i pulled myself out of quicksand. All i say is that i was very light in weight, and i didn't wiggle my legs too much, cuz the more u wiggle faster you'll sink.
It happened to me on a lake coast in Shikoku (Japan). There is this area of the coast that looks more like a swamp and I had to cross it to reach the other side but about half the way I was sinking in quicksand. Luckily there were some rocks nearby. It required lot of strength to reach the rocks and then pulling my legs out.
I remember, once i got stuck in quicksand till chest. Tried a lot but couldn't help myself to come out. I was exhausted. I felt that 'my days are over now and I'm going to die' Then suddenly someone started playing Justin Bieber's songs and you know what i suddenly pulled myself out and ran like a leopard. Thank god.

My buddy got his dirt bike stuck in quick sand in Moab Utah… the only thing that remained visible was the handle bars. It was both hilarious and hilarious at the same time.
The funny thing is you actually can't sink all the way into quick sand because your weight will have gotten equal with the quicksand so you will only sink about up to your chest
You're right. That is a very big misconception. However, not fulling sinking and not "drowning" is irrelevant if you are alone and aren't able to get yourself out of the sand.
I got stuck in quicksand once when I was a kid, and it is scary because you truly can't move your legs, it's like being stuck in concrete and the more you try to get out, the worse it gets. As he says, you can feel it tightening around your legs. You have to get out of it quickly because once it gets to your knees, it's really hard to lift your leg up enough to get out of it. There wasn't any danger of disappearing into the muck or anything, but you really can't move. You're stuck. I got out by falling forward onto harder sand the way I had come and sort of pulled and crawled my way out. It is scary though.

Probably because there’s flying stones
Safety number 1 .. we wont know what gonna happen.
And I think the rescue team not just saves people from quicksand.

I've been in quick sand before. I thought it was pretty fun. When I got out, the supervisor with me told me that I was actually in extreme danger . Oops
lol
HAHA NEW BEST FRIEND😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bruh did you see how long it takes any normal human can get out of quick sand your acting like your a hero or something.
+Quinn Leverett haha, uh not trying to act like a "hero"... I was just sharing my experience with quick sand
why is that guy a supervisor lol
I like how he explains how to escape but he cant get out himself
Kinda like that one friend who gives you girlfriend advice but doesn't have a girlfriend 😕
+DaCuddleBugg lol
Id want to see bear grylls escape this kind of quicksand this is legit sand, the "quicksand" Bear grylls escaped from looked like pure mud and water mixed which would take longer for you to sink giving way more time to escape.
also he had some hard surface to pull himself up on.
he was not even trying
Just in case nobody has mentioned this and if anybody is interested .. that quaint village is called 'Arnside'. I've been there a couple of times. The village has a siren warning when the tide is coming in and if the conditions are right the siren can indicate that the Arnside Bore is approaching.
“If you wouldn’t mind getting me out, that would be marvelous”
I wish I can be that polite when I’m dying 🤣
Sometimes you just have to love the British.

I’ve lost a boot to sand like this, but I had the sense to not stand in one spot while I marveled at how I was sinking.
“Right, I appear to be sinking” could this get any more British?
What I learned was if you get stuck in quicksand your stuck... wow thanks

Yeah, it was kind of reinforcing the idea of following the signs to avoid in the first place but they didn't do a great job of showing that explicitly.

I still got my mouth and eyes slightly out...

I sense a new workout fad. Im going to start selling quicksand pits. Helps people get fit AND helps control human overpopulation.
Great idea
Our population isn't that much.... I mean compare our population to animals.
Madara Ryuzaki
Uhh...

So how did they eventually get him out?
Lol I don't believe this even for a second
Well even if its not real, it did happen to someone
great story, but its actually impossible to become completely submerged in quicksand so not sure why you wrote this comment
@@bleepbloopbleep671 That’s what I was thinking. A person won’t sink past their waist. People are something 😂

i got myself into quicksand once when i was around 10, but lucky i was light and i didn't sink too deep, and i thank god that my mom buys me every book i want, which include an outdoor survival book, so i laid on my chest and pull myself out, but i lost one shoe(could have digged it out but i was so scared i couldn't run away from that place quick enough let alone digging the shoe lol). Anyway it was scary, then i told my mom about it, and nobody believes me that i pulled myself out of quicksand. All i say is that i was very light in weight, and i didn't wiggle my legs too much, cuz the more u wiggle faster you'll sink.
Even when you said you need new shoes? Haha

Just sounds like an intricate plot to acquire new shoes

Erik H wow that sucks. You almost died and nobody believes you
Blood Beryl nobody' gonna believe me, just like u, so did my parents.
Wow!!!

You can't drown in quicksand because you only sink up to your waist you can only die from heat
Thank god.

The funny thing is you actually can't sink all the way into quick sand because your weight will have gotten equal with the quicksand so you will only sink about up to your chest
Some quicksand be different though
When you reach the same density as the quicksand, true
You're right. That is a very big misconception. However, not fulling sinking and not "drowning" is irrelevant if you are alone and aren't able to get yourself out of the sand.
but all alone, with the incoming tide...
Icey Playz MC yes you can cause you can keep going down and struggling will make it worse
British person’s first reaction to being swallowed by quicksand: “I appear to be sinking”.
