    It worked! I used hair dryer on high and heated dispenser tube and behind door water resorvior both for few minutes carefully not to damage anything, and saw some water droplets on leaver and heated again little more and tried to if water start to pour! And walla, it did start to dispense water! I filled few 8 oz glasses of water to flush out old frozen water and filed more glasses. It worked.
    Just be careful not to damage & over heat tube and resorvior. Take some time to do slowly! Good luck and thank you!

    Hey thank you. 16 year old side by side GE with frozen line for the first time. After trying the blow dryer trick for 5 mins without success, I just laid down a towel, used a syringe with 20 mls of hot water (that my hands could tolerate) and slowly squirted in times 5.
    Then waited 2 mins and voila... runs like a champ. Thank you.

    Worked for me! It took about 2 minutes on the front of the dispenser, then a minute on the inside of the door, then back to the front for another minute. I checked periodically to see if it thawed. I didn't melt any tubing, but I didn't get too close to the plastic and watched it closely. When it thawed, it shot a little pressurized water out at me and the hair dryer, but it still works. Great fix, easier than taking everything out and thawing it for a day or two.

    Thank you SO much!!! FIXED! Yay!!! My awesome 18 yr GE fridge had the water line freeze for the first time today.
    I used my hair dryer with the nozzle attachment for only about 20 sec on the inside door compartment then right under the spigot in front, kept freezer door open for about five minutes, still didn’t work (no biggie since only a little effort and no avail wire), then gently used tip of a metal skewer stick about 1/8” into spigot and voila!!!! Teeny chunks of ice and water came out and she flows perfectly now!
    Thank you to all the very helpful comments too!! You saved me a repair call and a lot of stress during the pandemic, thank you! I’m soooo happy this is fixed! 🙌💦🙌

    I'd recommend taking apart the quick disconnect in the lower left corner of the door (behind the grill). Then blowing warm air UP not trying to force warm air down - also you won't be heating up the control board this way either. You can also take a long piece of trim line (like from a weed eater) and threading it up into the dispense end down to the quick disconnect to help move any semi frozen ice through faster. I fixed my GE this way in about 5 minutes.

    • @ChrisIrving79
      @ChrisIrving79 4 роки тому

      Great advice on taking apart the quick disconnect and using the trim line. I did exactly this after 5 minutes of blow drying to no avail. I had to work it a bit to get it through, but after a few jabs alternating between both ends I was able to free the ice clog. This was of course after I replaced the water valve. :P

    Thought the same thing. Just thought I would wait for the temperature in the freezer to rise at for some reason it was at -9. Not sure if the power outage here a half week ago but this did the trick. Just did the door in and out for about ten minutes total, five off and a few minutes off. I knew the problem as the -9 is crazy cold. Thanks for verifying my thought and not waiting for it to get back to 0 as it would be about two days waiting.

    Be careful with the high heat hairdryer...plastic parts in side mechanism can deform from high heat. Happened to me! Had to replace some parts. Better to shoot very hot/boiling water up the water line to melt the ice. Use a NielMed Nasal Rinse bottle from any pharmacy (add an extension tube to bottle to fit up water line 4-5 inches..) May take several trys ...but works.

    Worked for me in a few minutes. I alternate back-and-forth between the inside and the outside so the tube in the door never really got hot enough to melt.
    Thanks for a great repair, it save me from taking the door apart to see what was wrong inside.
    If it happens again I may add insulation to the inside of the door to keep that part of the door from freezing.

  • @ramirofernandez2327

    I have had the problem since I got the refrigerator. At the end I used the hot water-inject method. But one day I reason some science and opted for this: Get a solid metal, stainless small diameter wire (Gauge 18 will do). Shove it inside of the tube to about 5 inches and leave about half inch dangling. That's it. Come back next day and water flows!
    Why? You have to understand that the water freezes because the tube acts as an insulator, and the cold inside stays and freezes. But the wire transmit this cold outside and drains it, so it does not freeze. Hillbilly Science... I wish everybody, including GE will read this, as I am not going to make a video.

    I have used similar method to fix my frozen water dispenser line many times. I like your method and video. It seems it takes more time than the five or so minutes you have estimated. I have always wondered where is the most effective location to start warming with the hair dryer. I have not found any info about where the water line is actually routed. I can see it comes into the freezer at the base through the hinge, but where from there? The location you indicate would seem to be taken up by the space for the ice and water dispenser on the outside of the freezer door. I suppose they might sneak in a coil of water line in there to cool. I always have to warm that area, the external dispenser and the entire internal side of the door, because I don't know where the blockage is. I also find it freezes up more in the humid summer weather (even though house is air conditioned). I have tried the wire tie or pipe cleaner method without results. Just curious about your thoughts on this.

    • @KetoKevin
      @KetoKevin  Рік тому

      I lived in the desert so mine may not have had as much moisture as yours. It may also depend on how they routed through the in door insulation. I never opened it up to look.

    I tried the hair dryer idea. I melted the entire dispenser apparatus. 50 bucks online to replace it all plus a water line heating element and I'm back in business. Don't put it on the highest setting even if alternating between outside and inside. Keep it on low and be patient.

    • @jeffcombs5000
      @jeffcombs5000 6 років тому +1

      No not too bad. Wiring-in the heating element was the trickiest part. Just follow the directions closely. The wiring clips provided are bulky and need to be installed in the exact location or it will impede re-installation of control panel.

    I found an even easier way for my GE side by side, bottom freezer: string trimmer line! I cut a 36" piece (mine happens to be .080 line) and ran it up the water spout line. The frozen part of the line was right about 28" in. Work it into that another 5 inches or so. Water dispenser worked just fine after that. Took that piece of line and put it in the cabinet for when it happens again.

    I tried this and got impatient, then I put a syringe up with a little bit of hot water and it worked in about a half of minute. However, the water is spouting out too far away (on the floor). I am wondering if the heat of the hair dryer did something to the rubber spout. We tried turning it with a pliers and I also tried moving it down, but it doesn't budge and I don't want to break it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    • @KetoKevin

      I think it happens when you have stuff pushed up against the door when it closes, mostly. It does have something to do with water flow being stalled as well. We have an RO system under the sink now so a lot of our water doesn’t flow through the fridge anymore. It has come back a couple times but remedied itself after trying it a couple times prior to me having to apply heat.

    Great fix. I wonder why GE doesn't tell you this themselves in their videos. what crappy engineering!

    Should have read through ALL comments before acting- only read the successful ones! Melted my dispenser paddle and ice/water wouldn’t stop dispensing! Ended up with an expensive fix - should have just continued getting water from the tap! 😞

    I have a problem where the ice maker and the water won't come out. Any suggestions since it's not just the water?

    But why did it freeze? What about avoiding this to happen again.? Everytime you don't use it for three days it will freeze.

      I think it is mostly when there is food right up next to that spot on the door. My assumption would be that if you took the door apart and put insulation in there that it may prevent the problem from returning but that seems like a lot of work for something that has only happened twice to me in 10 years.

    Bad idea! The heat bent the plastic tubing at the tip and now the water shoots out onto the floor instead of straight down. I used a syringe with hot water and took about 5 sec for the ice to melt inside the tube and start working. But unfortunately this was after the use of the hair dryer which didn't work, only bend my tubing. Don't use a hair dyer, just a syringe. Free from CVS.

      I like the syringe idea. My tube didn't melt. How about you melt it back? Or stick a little rubber hose on the end so it hangs down better.

      Your hair dryer must be pretty powerful. I did not run into that issue.
