From the moment I was taught to drive a stick 21 years ago when I was 19 yrs old I've loved it. When I brought a new tacoma a few years ago I learned I could still get a Manual tranz so I did. The lady at the dealership looked at me like I was crazy, saying," you actually want a Manual?"
Lol. That being said, probably a Taco.
Both Toyota and Jeep deserve the business for offering a modern truck with a manual. Buy both.
Not to mention Gladiator has way more room in the back seat, but Tacoma road manners are better, but off-road jeep hands down. It’s really a matter of what you like, and need for you.
The Jeep hate is hilarious lol. Im curious if my Jeep GC with over 100k miles with only a water pump and a small evap system issue is considered reliable. Because according to these fine folks all Jeeps are unreliable buckets like Toyotas never break lol
Exactly 💯
I know it’s old but i have a 1987 Comanche with 300,000 miles on it and no issues.
@captainrex4794 as long as it's not rusted to all hell, the miles on a commanche don't matter.
Yeah, wonder how they achieved that reputation. Probably just liars 😂
Those two issues alone are proving everyone who says they are unreliable right though 🤷🏻 a water pump can lead to serious issues if not addressed quickly it's not just a loose nut and bolt bro.
I was looking for this exactly. A manual pick up. I've never owned a Toyota only a ram but I am aware of their reliability. However, I preferred the look of the gladiator and went with that. Definitely, a weird clutch and known recall for them. Pretty big let down for such an expensive vehicle but I love it still. Would be wonderful with a V8 and a better clutch but that's the nice thing about jeeps. You can get everything aftermarket. Tacoma's are popular and probably for good reason but I love my gladiator and I appreciate running into a taco with a stick. Dying breed man. Almost sold it to get a power wagon but it's all buttons and rotary dials no and I can't go back lol
Always awesome to hear from someone with one themselves!
I really wanted a manual Gladiator, but it couldn’t handle my occasional towing needs. I really wish Jeep would’ve used a better components form their manual option.
The clutch is replaced for free. It's a recall item.
Tacos are great trucks. I have owned both. I have a 22 mojave gladiator that I traded my 19 TRD taco in for, best choice I ever made in vehicle. The gladiator has a ton for features, rides better, gets significantly better fuel economy, has better ground clearance, better payload, better towing, better torque, better off road, and significantly better infotainment/sound system. Never had any issues with the taco, it was a great truck. But the gladiator offers a ton more. And we can't say it was a bad choice because of "jeep reliability" because it has no issues yet just like the taco, so it's an eye to eye comparison. So for now, the jeep is a much better truck. Also, I have seen jeeps with over 500k miles still running on the original engine, and they have a cult following for a reason. Also, since 2020, there have been thousands of reports of failed 6 cylinder engines in 4runners and tacos from cracked cylinder walls.
These 3.6s are definitely a great powerplant! Thanks for the input, always great to hear from someone that has had both.
I would disagree. Been like 4 recalls on the 23s alone including Two stop sales orders. As a long time jeep owner as well as having 4runners / pickups jeep is nowhere close to Quality toyota has. You seriously think the jeep manual transmission is superior to toyota? This your fist jeep?
Yes, the Jeep transmission is Superior to the toy. Hands down
@@stevendeschenes7814 Yes my friend..Jeeps are superior. And that's just the way it is.
@@stevendeschenes7814 I filed a lemon law case against Toyota and won (!) just after 800 miles on my (then new) 2021 tundra limited, due to the front diff issues. The front diff bearing will spin inside the case resulting in loud grinding humming sound. No big deal, can be fixed with aftermarket parts but that’s not why I purchased a brand new Toyota. Besides, the Toyota dealer was totally arrogant and so I taught them a lesson lol!
Tacoma for the win
🤣🤣💩
That gladiator MT is from the same manufacturer that makes Toyotas MTs lol
Interesting, didn't know that!
Lol... That's actually something that I found out a few months ago, and was surprised, because I've always heard that Toyota made good manual transmissions; at least back in the day.
Toyota all day
🤣💩
My Tacoma transmission blew and I only had 5k miles
either or as long as we get a stick. Like what I drive now an old first gen. Explorer four door 5 speed stick
Jeep, definitely. I currently have an 08 Wrangler Unlimited X. 6 speed with over 328000 miles. I'm the only owner and I have a 2024 Gladiator Willys Sport on order. Just waiting for a price.
Very cool!
You are one of the lucky ones. Most jeep owners have lots of problems
Easy choice. 90s tacoma for sure. Those 22REs live forever and are much easier to work on. My 86 lived its whole life outside and blew its first head gasket a week ago at 280k.
But damn they're slow. I'm real jealous of that extra gear on the jeep and it sure it nice to see companies still making manuals. I hope they never stop
That’s easy, Jeep is in the shop for repairs all the time and the Tacoma enjoying the drive. I will take the Tacoma
Gladiator can only tow 4000 pounds with a manual transmission. Kind of a joke for a pick up truck.
I’ve had both and the Jeep truck is better than the Tacoma in my opinion but I’m also 6’7 tall. An the Tacoma felt like an old S-10 Chevy
YOTA for sure for engine
Tacoma that jeep is dog water shouldn’t compare reliable with cheap junk from Chrysler 😂
I have an 11 wrangler but would happily get a used Tacoma stick down the line.
Manual transmission is the best you can get
True true!
Tacoma all day
Jeep for me
Don’t know much about jeeps however, I’ve owned a few Toyota Tacoma’s, the quality is unbeatable
Toyota Doesn’t have quality, only reliability going for it.
Tacoma all day every day!! It’ll outlive the gladiator by 200K miles.
Owned both, would buy another Gladiator, can't say the same for the Taco. The Taco has terrible seating position and is ohhh so boring to drive.
Interesting to hear!
If you are going all around truck that kills it off road the gladiator for sure there’s no comparison off-road/rock crawling
Tacoma cuz you’ll have to hit the shop twice in 5 years compared to 5x in 6 months
I like the gladiators but I would never spend that kind of money on a jeep. I'd go Tacoma.
You Sir are wise ….
@@tejastiger61oh, thanks lol
🤣💩
Literally the same price bud
@@mikeburton8166 exactly why I'd spend that money on a Toyota over a jeep..
With the 2024 Tacoma reliability i would go for the Gladiator. Now if it's a 2023 Tacoma or older I would go for the Tacoma.
Interesting! Why do you think reliability will be an issue for the Tacoma moving forward?
@readysetrev Hello, some of the breakdowns already seen online like the one on TFL trucks. Also, just like the many transmission problems that were reported during the release of the 2016 Tacoma, or the cam issues on the 2007 Tundra during its initial release. I believe they will end up becoming good trucks but when a new model is release it always takes some time to fix many of the issues missed during production.
Toyota any day of the week
I'd get the Gladiator!
Tacoma. Any day. I don't have the time and money to own a Chrysler /Jeep product. Too much down time and too much to keep going as time goes on.
Thanks for the input!
The Taco. More reliable than the Jeep.
🤣💩
Lmao
I’m pretty sure Jeep is LITERALLY the number one spot in reliable. Like these are things you can simply google.
@@daviddoss8298
Consumer Reports:
In 2021, Jeep improved its reliability and moved up several spots on Consumer Reports' list. However, in January 2024, Consumer Reports ranked Jeep 24th out of 25 car brands for reliability, and none of the nine Jeep models they tested received more than 3 out of 5 stars.
Auto Gladiator
Tacoma. I won't buy another jeep
Ford ranger has them
Parking lot princess, go Toyota. Going offroad? Jeep. The price of upgrading the Toyota to equal the stock Jeep suspension is the deal breaker.
It's that a miranda thar pick up (a joke)😂
I don't get it. Please explain.
@@Kyle-si8yw mahindra thar is a Indian suv which looks like the Jeep wrangler and mahindra always makes a pick up version of their SUV's
Jeep
Tacoma… because of reliability, to which Cheep (I mean Jeep), has none.
No, jeeps have a bad reputation for quality and reliability. Not always, but that reputation exists for a reason
Jeep.
Toyota for sure. Renault and fiat Own Dodge Chrysler Jeep. Those are the 2 worst car companies in the world.
depends on what you get. They’ve been making the 2.4l, 3.6l, and 5.7l for awhile now and they’ve shown to be pretty reliable. Of course they made some junk but I wouldn’t discredit the whole company
Whats the other gear for? Low gears?
Transfer case
It’s for the 4x4
No-brainer. Jeep for the win all day long. In 50 years that Jeep will still be around and that Toyota will be recycled four or five times
Least delusional jeep fanboy:
Tacomas are awesome but I still want a Gladiator though.
Don't know why tundra has a manual transmission
Try gettin in the back seat of that Jeep 😂. I’m all about Mopar vehicles but damn that thing should just be a two door with a back seat
If you watch the full review, the backseat is actually something I was quite impressed with. I'm relatively tall, and fit quite well. They have a cut out in the back of the front seats, and my knees still had a couple inches before it hit the front. Headroom was great as well.
@@readysetrev yep the seats are great getting in and out the door is the problem for me but I’m old
How much are they? 60k?
Right now they start a little under $40K
Toyota or a Jeep? 😂😂😂😂 enough said
I hate the manual in my 18 Tacoma. Absolute garbage. The truck itself is great the trans ruins it. On the other hand jeeps are the new soccer mom mini van and can’t compare to Toyota reliability.
I think what kills it is the rev hang. But that’s unfortunately on every new manual car due to government being government (EPA regulations). My ‘23 is clunky but it’s because it’s very hard to get a smooth shift consistently with the rev hang.
A jeep is not a truck
I’m sorry I’ve driven wranglers and gladiator sticks and they just have the weirdest clutch pedal feel and weight distribution.
Interesting! I didn't have much of an issue on this one.
Before i watch the whole thing, Toyota. Peroid.
Toyota all day it will last longer
The Tacoma, hands down. The Gladiator looks super cool, I would totally buy one of money was no object, but it is. My truck needs to last.
Jeeps are the pinnacle of longest lasting vehicles on earth. You can also take them anywhere on earth
Well, I've owned both vehicles with manual transmissions. My vote goes to Toyta!! I have the 2023 trd off road. I had the JT 2020 sport before this vehicle. HATED the manual in the Gladiator
Thanks for the info on this! That is really interesting.
Toyota anything over a Jeep. I’ve got 227,000 miles on my FJ and the only rattles are from my stuff.
Broncos come in manual.
Very good point! The Bronco is also one of the few SUVs that have a manual (and easily one of my favorites). However this video is just regarding trucks.
Broncos aren't pickups
Gladiator had a weird feeling manual. I didn't like the feel at all.
Interesting to hear!
There’s a reason those Gladiators are going for 30k brand new right now
Underpowered POS Jeep quality compared to a taco 😂 no comparison really
Both trucks make similar horsepower with their V6, so both are underpowered I guess…
None of that that you're saying is actually a fact..... Your explanation just proves that you don't know better 😮.... And pretty much 85% of Jeep sales are people that don't know better and never ever purchase a second one 😮
I'm assuming you might be replying to another comment?
Toyota
Toyota it will be less mechanical issues in the future.
Tacoma
Tacoma, looks way better and way cooler and Toyota’s are built great
Ive owned Toyotas and would have one of them. The jeep is now made by chrysler corp and they crummy motors. Plus the bodies are crap also.
Tacoma. Last much longer
Toyota all day long
There is no comparison that won't be on the road in 5 years and the Tacoma will just fine 😮
I'd take the taco over a jeep any day
Jeep junk versus Toyota quality...tough one.
jeeps are over priced GARBAGE!
#RecallMuch
Tacoma. I'd go with an actual jeep but that hasn't been so since 87 I believe. Those were solid jeeps.
I believe there is a recall on the Jeep Gladiator with the manual transmission. I think it involves problems with the clutch. Toyota is a more reliable vehicle than Jeep
Looks like there is, and you are correct! However, there are recalls on Tacoma's as well.
Jeep
Toyota all day
Jeep
