Thank you for the informative video. I have one suggestion for improvement. Don't crush the charcoal lumps on a floor. The main reason to get all natural is to avoid the additives and unfiltered things that can sneak in there. When crushing the charcoal on a floor that everyone has been walking on you are basically just turning natural food grade charcoal into the cheaper contaminated charcoal. My suggestion would be to use a clean cotton cloth or a food grade tarp to lay out on the floor and just clean it between uses.

If you don't mind mixing that into your food and supplements then go for it, but your lack of concern for its importance does not mitigate the truth of the matter.

Activated charcoal can be used for many things. Finely powdered AC can be used as toothpaste, facial and body scrubs, it can be ingested to rid your body of toxins, such as poisonings, over doses of drugs including medical drugs such as aspirin Tylenol, it's used widely in hospitals as well, it can help with stomach ailments as well, it pulls toxins from your body and gets rid of them. You can also let it sit out in a room because it will clear the air, such as odors, and some poisonous air chemicals. Main thing to remember is to always keep it air tight/sealed because it absorbs quickly. Left unopened it will lose its effectiveness. It is also used to clean water, here's a simple way to do it boil water then in a container/bucket put hole in center, put another bucket under it, put cotton cloth, or coffee filters, layer as follows sand more cloth/filter, then activated charcoal another cloth, pebbles, then rocks, you can pour dirty water on it and it will filter it. Pebbles and rocks clear big debris, charcoal pulls toxins and bacteria, sand filters any other particles left behind, and cotton cloth/filter keeps sand and charcoal from falling into clean water, you can then drink, and cook with clean water. There's so many benefits. You can buy soaps, shampoos, facial scrubs, toothpaste and pills over the counter at most stores as well. Most store bought filtration systems use charcoal in their filters. You can purchase activated charcoal bags to leave in your house/car to remove odors and other toxins, and like this video shows you can make your own. For me I keep baking soda, vinegars, lemon/lime juice, rubbing alcohol, iodine, and charcoal in my home at all times as well as other items. Just in case. Brother, you have no idea how much I appreciate and value this information. I thought it was a complicated process to activate the charcoal which is amazing for health. Activated Charcoal Activated charcoal may not be the most pleasant thing to ingest but it is well worth the effort. This negatively charged element will go through your entire digestive tract pulling out anything that is positively charged such as heavy metals, toxins, poisons and radiation. Do not use this if you are constipated as it could increase symptoms. It's important to drink more water when using charcoal because as it draws out heavy metals it becomes harder and if you are dehydrated, your next bowel movement will be like passing solid metal and believe me it's not pleasant, I know because I did it. 1 tblsp every other day on an empty stomach is what I used. I lost weight and my digestive and intestinal health improved considerably.

I use activated charcoal in my goldfish pond to help filter out all the impurities in the water and it makes the water crystal clear as well. Cool! Thanks for the video! I learned something today. Just an FYI. You can make your own charcoal if you had to in an emergency. It works best on a very small scale, but it is still good knowledge to have. I carry an Altoids tin in my camping gear. I used a roofing nail to pound a small hole into the Altoid tin's lid. I can put small pieces of wood in there. When camping, I can put small pieces of wood in the tin and throw it into a fire closed. That will make charcoal when the smoke stops coming from the tin of the Altoid container. One can use a single wall metal container to do the same thing. Stanley makes some good lightweight, fairly cheap camping pots that would work well for doing that on a slightly larger scale.
@@xmobile. 1. If you're going to make your own charcoal, you can use a clean, unused paint can, available at most hardware or paint stores. You make charcoal by heating the wood in a low-or-zero oxygen atmosphere. When the wood is hot enough that it should be burning but there's no air or oxygen to use, the wood starts casting off everything that's not carbon. Eventually, all that is left is the carbon. Fill the can with wood pieces from a tree -- don't use stuff from wood pallets or cast off pieces from a construction site. As he said, those can be coated with chemicals you do not want to have in your charcoal. Put the wood in the can and seal it, make a small hole in the lid with a nail, and keep it in the fire until no more smoke or flame comes out. Let the fire die and the can cool down, and you'll have something like the charcoal he is using. (NOTE: DO NOT USE CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES! THOSE ARE MADE USING WAXES AND OTHER BINDERS TO FORM INTO THAT SHAPE!) After grinding it into a powder, I would use strong (cleaning, or multi-purpose) vinegar or the strongest food-safe acid you can buy to mix with the carbon powder, rather than some fruit juice. (I once read a process that used battery acid; while that might activate the charcoal it will also leave byproducts that you don't want in your product.) Mix the powder and the vinegar together in a food-safe SEALABLE container. Set it aside for a few days, giving it a swirl every so often to make sure all of the carbon gets expose to the acid. Filter the results (doesn't have to be completely dry), then put it into the paint container you used earlier and again, put into a hot fire for a few hours, then let cool naturally. The acid will make small pits in the individual grains of carbon powder -- the small pits increases the surface area of the carbon grains, making it more effective (i.e., "activates" it) at grabbing and filtering out impurities. This is NOT a substitute for medicinal-grade activated charcoal you should have for poison control, but it should be good enough for filtering water, etc. 2. RE: using it to make lye -- as hobbyist soap-maker, you will get better results by going to the hardware store and buying lye (sodium hydroxide) in crystal form. You'll find it with the drain cleaners. You can make the amount of liquid lye on demand to the strength you need -- ESSENTIAL for successful soap making. Otherwise you might wind up with a gloppy mess that won't harden, and either burns when you use it (too much lye or too strong) or simply doesn't clean effectively (not enough lye). If you really, *really* want to make your own lye, get the right type of ashes. Use the ashes from hardwoods to make sodium hydroxide, which will let you make bar soap; and use the ashes from soft woods to make potassium hydroxide, which will let you make liquid soaps. Don't mix the two type of ashes or the two types of lye you produce. Store the lye in a glass container with a good lid, then store that in ANOTHER container that is clearly marked with poison control stickers and warnings in red to BE CAREFUL. People kept lye around because before the invention of chlorine bleach, it was the only product that could be used to clean sheets and clothing stained with "biological materials" (think dysentery and being too weak to make it to the outhouse before your cramps hit) reliably. History is rife with stories about people blinded when they were kids because lye got splashed into their eyes. Get several books on soap making (check out your public library first) and read up on making a simple 3-ingredient soap (water, fat, and lye) and FOLLOW ALL THE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS! Let's be careful out there.

@@keithfillinger3182, ok, but any type of wood, or paper products should be able to create a charcoal product, … but hard woods are preferred, because of the higher btu rate, if you are going to reuse for the carbon functions of cooking, plus certain types of wood/fibrous products may give off unwanted odors, … ie marijuana, … lmbo, … the idea is to wind up with a heat purified carbon product that can be used to purify, the air, or a water resource, … passed through the product, without accumulations of algae, or such contaminants, …

Very nice my friend. If lemon juice is not a option running water thru ash over and over creates Lye. Reduce that down to a third, then same process. Few items and a fire. You will end up with nothing more than charcoal powder that taste like lemon. This recipe doesn't work in many ways. This BBQ charcoal is made from all sort of scraps like skids with paint and wood treatments and glue = not good at all ! Make your own in a fire pit using logs. But the guy is right. Lemon juice does change charcoal: It makes it worst ! In fact you would be better off using this powder as is. There is no easy way to make activated charcoal. You must heat it in a furnace at 800-900 celcius while running steam trought it. Doing so will release a high quantity of highly flammable gaz. Do your research.

I was taught that the charcoal had to be heated up to 600 degrees to consider it activated....thanks for your input towards better health..My mother always heated it in a oil-less cast iron pan on the stove, checking the temp by making a small pile of charcoal and insert a temp gauge...just a thought...
For it to be properly activated it would have to be pyrolyzed at 800 C° in an Argon atmosphere. The lemon juice method does not increase surface area. This is just charcoal powder. It does not have the same chemical properties as activated charcoal, which is extremely important to know, especially when using it for medicinal purposes.

I agree with you 100% and although good intentions are meant the information presented concerns me on many levels and if someone truly wants to use activated charcoal for health reasons they should cosider buying sterile medical grade activated charcoal from a realiable source or manufacturer. I actually was surprised by using lemon juice as the acid to open the pours of the charcoal.I also quetion if that is stong enough to open the pours of the charcoal. if left in warm temperatiures for two days as he stated then bacteria could form from the lemon juice. Charcoal is also a lower grade of coal which in many cases is made from wood off cuts and even possibly shipping skids. These coals are produced at a lower temperature and may also contain by products such as bug sprays applied to the skids to stop infestation. Bio char would be a better product to make and use rather than charcoal as the coal is produced at a higher temperature and the gases are burned off as well. In repects to the leaving the charcoal in the stove untl it cools down tells me that it has already absorbed many things from the the air. I mean no disrespect to anyone here but I actually researched this as people should when it comes to well intended advice that may effect your health.

Great video! I came to Thailand about 7 years ago, and they sell this in the 7-Elevens here for $1US for 12 capsules. I learned to use this within my first month due to getting used to the bacteria in the food and water. It's a MUST have when travelling to new countries, as well as anytime you feel a sickness coming on, for hangovers (don't abuse it!), and for weekly cleansing of the body/blood. They use coconut husks here for their charcoal, which is pretty awesome, but you can search on how to create your own charcoal (instead of buying it from companies). Both obviously work, but it's good to learn the very basics too. I'll have to search your channel to see if you create the charcoal from scratch. Thanks again.
The only problem is that this is NOT activated charcoal (don't believe everything everyone tells you - do your research). This is just powdered charcoal - which may be ok for filtering water, but basically has no mecidinal use otherwise. i highly suggest any questions, should look into @fotoshopro comments, since she clearly has some chemical based knowledge/ background & is 100% correct across the board. To rely on something that may seem to be valid will only bite you in the backend

What's in that "hardwood" charcoal? Bits and pieces of pallets, etc. If you really want to know what's in what you're putting in your body, make it from scratch! Find your own hardwood, reduce it to charcoal, go from there.
Just remember, if you are taking any major prescriptions, do not take active charcoal until after a few hours before or after taking meds. Active charcoal pulls medications out of your body . This is why it's used for over dosing❤ this was an awesome video that I'm going to share with my son inlaw ! He's gonna love this, too!! Thank you❤

I started a experiment growing strawberries from store bought strawberries in a pot, they are outside in the sun, its been 2 weeks and I see already a stem growths sounds funny but Im exited to see this!! How do I maintain good growth now, and once it starts to get cold due to I live in a townhouse at the moment? Thank you
I have seven flower pots of strawberries that come up every year. They do fine in the cold and snow. By spring they start waking up. June it's full of strawberries. First week of July strawberries season is over. Hope that helps

I have a small green house and grew lettuce, kale, butter crunch indoor during the winter. Am in zone 6A and we have buzzards. I will be experimenting this winter to see what else I can grew.
Many sources of charcoal here in the UK use fire starter on it so making your own charcoal or sourcing it from a charcoal maker is really important. Great video though :D

Thanks for the eye opener. I've always used powdered charcoal directly from the fire for my projects. Filtering water, black powder etc. Pretty sure the ancients did as well. Activating the charcoal with lemon juice may prove impossible in an emergency survival situation. I'll do some more research on it. Awesome channel. I'm subscribing
Just a heads up, as this is an important medicine and first aid tool, and I don't think any harm is intended, but another channel did a test on this method and a variety of other home methods for making Activated Charcoal/Carbon, and this one performed the worst out of all of them, including just distilled water, as lemon juice doesn't contain a strong enough acid and instead ends up just coating the surface. The channel is Cody's Lab if you want to look it up, and he shows another home method in a different video that does legitimately match production levels, but it takes a lot more prep and involves high temperatures and flammable gasses.

Finely powdered AC can be used as toothpaste, facial and body scrubs, it can be ingested to rid your body of toxins, such as poisonings, over doses of drugs including medical drugs such as aspirin Tylenol, it's used widely in hospitals as well, it can help with stomach ailments as well, it pulls toxins from your body and gets rid of them. You can also let it sit out in a room because it will clear the air, such as odors, and some poisonous air chemicals. Main thing to remember is to always keep it air tight/sealed because it absorbs quickly. Left unopened it will lose its effectiveness. It is also used to clean water, here's a simple way to do it boil water then in a container/bucket put hole in center, put another bucket under it, put cotton cloth, or coffee filters, layer as follows sand more cloth/filter, then activated charcoal another cloth, pebbles, then rocks, you can pour dirty water on it and it will filter it. Pebbles and rocks clear big debris, charcoal pulls toxins and bacteria, sand filters any other particles left behind, and cotton cloth/filter keeps sand and charcoal from falling into clean water, you can then drink, and cook with clean water. You can buy soaps, shampoos, facial scrubs, toothpaste and pills over the counter at most stores as well. Most store bought filtration systems use charcoal in their filters. You can purchase activated charcoal bags to leave in your house/car to remove odors and other toxins, and like this video shows you can make your own. For me I keep baking soda, vinegars, lemon/lime juice, rubbing alcohol, iodine, and charcoal in my home at all times as well as other items. Just in case. Hope this helped to explain some of the uses and reasons to keep it around. 🙂

Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal may not be the most pleasant thing to ingest but it is well worth the effort. This negatively charged element will go through your entire digestive tract pulling out anything that is positively charged such as heavy metals, toxins, poisons and radiation.
Do not use this if you are constipated as it could increase symptoms. It's important to drink more water when using charcoal because as it draws out heavy metals it becomes harder and if you are dehydrated, your next bowel movement will be like passing solid metal and believe me it's not pleasant, I know because I did it.
1 tblsp every other day on an empty stomach is what I used. I lost weight and my digestive and intestinal health improved considerably.
i sometimes add flaxseed or flaxmeal, oat or wheat brans, psyllium husks when im using charcoal for "detox"; not for "tummy troubles" though.
You can get empty gel caps and put the powder in them.😊

I use activated charcoal in my goldfish pond to help filter out all the impurities in the water and it makes the water crystal clear as well. Just an FYI. You can make your own charcoal if you had to in an emergency. It works best on a very small scale, but it is still good knowledge to have. I carry an Altoids tin in my camping gear. I used a roofing nail to pound a small hole into the Altoid tin's lid. I can put small pieces of wood in there. When camping, I can put small pieces of wood in the tin and throw it into a fire closed. That will make charcoal when the smoke stops coming from the tin of the Altoid container. One can use a single wall metal container to do the same thing. Stanley makes some good lightweight, fairly cheap camping pots that would work well for doing that on a slightly larger scale.

@@xmobile. 1. If you're going to make your own charcoal, you can use a clean, unused paint can, available at most hardware or paint stores. You make charcoal by heating the wood in a low-or-zero oxygen atmosphere. When the wood is hot enough that it should be burning but there's no air or oxygen to use, the wood starts casting off everything that's not carbon. Eventually, all that is left is the carbon.
Fill the can with wood pieces from a tree -- don't use stuff from wood pallets or cast off pieces from a construction site. As he said, those can be coated with chemicals you do not want to have in your charcoal. Put the wood in the can and seal it, make a small hole in the lid with a nail, and keep it in the fire until no more smoke or flame comes out. Let the fire die and the can cool down, and you'll have something like the charcoal he is using. (NOTE: DO NOT USE CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES! THOSE ARE MADE USING WAXES AND OTHER BINDERS TO FORM INTO THAT SHAPE!)
After grinding it into a powder, I would use strong (cleaning, or multi-purpose) vinegar or the strongest food-safe acid you can buy to mix with the carbon powder, rather than some fruit juice. (I once read a process that used battery acid; while that might activate the charcoal it will also leave byproducts that you don't want in your product.) Mix the powder and the vinegar together in a food-safe SEALABLE container. Set it aside for a few days, giving it a swirl every so often to make sure all of the carbon gets expose to the acid. Filter the results (doesn't have to be completely dry), then put it into the paint container you used earlier and again, put into a hot fire for a few hours, then let cool naturally.
The acid will make small pits in the individual grains of carbon powder -- the small pits increases the surface area of the carbon grains, making it more effective (i.e., "activates" it) at grabbing and filtering out impurities. This is NOT a substitute for medicinal-grade activated charcoal you should have for poison control, but it should be good enough for filtering water, etc.
2. RE: using it to make lye -- as hobbyist soap-maker, you will get better results by going to the hardware store and buying lye (sodium hydroxide) in crystal form. You'll find it with the drain cleaners. You can make the amount of liquid lye on demand to the strength you need -- ESSENTIAL for successful soap making. Otherwise you might wind up with a gloppy mess that won't harden, and either burns when you use it (too much lye or too strong) or simply doesn't clean effectively (not enough lye).
If you really, *really* want to make your own lye, get the right type of ashes. Use the ashes from hardwoods to make sodium hydroxide, which will let you make bar soap; and use the ashes from soft woods to make potassium hydroxide, which will let you make liquid soaps. Don't mix the two type of ashes or the two types of lye you produce. Store the lye in a glass container with a good lid, then store that in ANOTHER container that is clearly marked with poison control stickers and warnings in red to BE CAREFUL. People kept lye around because before the invention of chlorine bleach, it was the only product that could be used to clean sheets and clothing stained with "biological materials" (think dysentery and being too weak to make it to the outhouse before your cramps hit) reliably. History is rife with stories about people blinded when they were kids because lye got splashed into their eyes. Get several books on soap making (check out your public library first) and read up on making a simple 3-ingredient soap (water, fat, and lye) and FOLLOW ALL THE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS!

This BBQ charcoal is made from all sort of scraps like skids with paint and wood treatments and glue = not good at all !
Make your own in a fire pit using logs.

There is no easy way to make activated charcoal. You must heat it in a furnace at 800-900 celcius while running steam trought it. Doing so will release a high quantity of highly flammable gaz.

I was taught that the charcoal had to be heated up to 600 degrees to consider it activated....thanks for your input towards better health..My mother always heated it in a oil-less cast iron pan on the stove, checking the temp by making a small pile of charcoal and insert a temp gauge...just a thought...

For it to be properly activated it would have to be pyrolyzed at 800 C° in an Argon atmosphere.
The lemon juice method does not increase surface area.
This is just charcoal powder. It does not have the same chemical properties as activated charcoal, which is extremely important to know, especially when using it for medicinal purposes.

I agree with you 100% and although good intentions are meant the information presented concerns me on many levels and if someone truly wants to use activated charcoal for health reasons they should cosider buying sterile medical grade activated charcoal from a
realiable source or manufacturer. I actually was surprised by using lemon juice as the acid to open the pours of the charcoal.I also quetion if that is stong enough to open the pours of
the charcoal. if left in warm temperatiures for two days as he stated then bacteria could form from the lemon juice. Charcoal is also a lower grade of coal which in many cases is made from wood off cuts and even possibly shipping skids. These coals
are produced at a lower temperature and may also contain by products such as bug sprays applied to the skids to stop infestation. Bio char would be a better product to make and use
rather than charcoal as the coal is produced at a higher temperature and the gases are burned off as well. In repects to the leaving the charcoal in the stove untl it cools down

Great video! I came to Thailand about 7 years ago, and they sell this in the 7-Elevens here for $1US for 12 capsules. I learned to use this within my first month due to getting used to the bacteria in the food and water. It's a MUST have when travelling to new countries, as well as anytime you feel a sickness coming on, for hangovers (don't abuse it!), and for weekly cleansing of the body/blood. They use coconut husks here for their charcoal, which is pretty awesome, but you can search on how to create your own charcoal (instead of buying it from companies). Both obviously work, but it's good to learn the very basics too. I'll have to search your channel to see if you create the charcoal from scratch. Thanks again.

The only problem is that this is NOT activated charcoal (don't believe everything everyone tells you - do your research). This is just powdered charcoal - which may be ok for filtering water, but basically has no mecidinal use otherwise. i highly suggest any questions, should look into @fotoshopro comments, since she clearly has some chemical based knowledge/ background & is 100% correct across the board. To rely on something that may seem to be valid will only bite you in the backend

What's in that "hardwood" charcoal? Bits and pieces of pallets, etc. If you really want to know what's in what you're putting in your body, make it from scratch! Find your own hardwood, reduce it to charcoal, go from there.
Just remember, if you are taking any major prescriptions, do not take active charcoal until after a few hours before or after taking meds. Active charcoal pulls medications out of your body . This is why it's used for over dosing❤ this was an awesome video that I'm going to share with my son inlaw ! He's gonna love this, too!! Thank you❤

I started a experiment growing strawberries from store bought strawberries in a pot, they are outside in the sun, its been 2 weeks and I see already a stem growths sounds funny but Im exited to see this!! How do I maintain good growth now, and once it starts to get cold due to I live in a townhouse at the moment? Thank you
I have seven flower pots of strawberries that come up every year. They do fine in the cold and snow. By spring they start waking up. June it's full of strawberries. First week of July strawberries season is over. Hope that helps

Turns out using lemon juice makes the charcoal less porous than just using distilled water to soak in.
Just a heads up, as this is an important medicine and first aid tool, and I don't think any harm is intended, but another channel did a test on this method and a variety of other home methods for making Activated Charcoal/Carbon, and this one performed the worst out of all of them, including just distilled water, as lemon juice doesn't contain a strong enough acid and instead ends up just coating the surface.
