This song is about the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunited Germany. Along with the fall of Socialism in Eastern Europe at the end of the 80s. I was 15 in 1990 and there seemed to be an air of Victory and hope for the future. The Cold War was over. Then, the shitty part of humanity took over and gave us whatever happened ever since. Yay.
Yeah that was the time when the wall fell , and suddenly many comunists became fascists .
Yeah! That´s an important information, this song means a lot to germans in general, that´s the reason we get REALLY emotional there...
I was only 7 years old and i still remember everything, because of this song... It´s weird
I was 17 in 1990. In social studies class I picked the USSR out of a hat for a final report. The Wall fell, the Scorpions and Billy Joel were everywhere, I was screwed! I actually had to write something intelligent. My best friend got Brazil, he wrote about street parties!
Yay indeed...
@@higodebuddha9230 They were always fascists, they just hid behind the communism.
Very underrated band . Arguably Germany's best import. They have made a lot more hits then just "Rock you like a hurricane "
I was born in the former GDR, but was only a baby when the wall came down and Germany was reuinited a year later. My parents told me stories about what they experienced at that time, how surreal everything was... And this song makes me cry with joy every time. Thank you for reviewing this song, it really means a lot, you have no idea.
I don't think you can properly appreciate this song without understanding that it's an emotional response from a German band to the fall of the Berlin Wallace and the reunification of East and West Germany and the end of the Cold War. It a very personal song for them. It's not a bad song, but I don't know if it would do much for me without knowing and living through that background.
it isn´t, directly. It´s a song about the changes russia (soviet union back then) went through, and what they witnessed when they performed there. This song was long written, when the Berlin Wall fell, so it is impossible for it to be a response to it.
@MrBremmer6 HIS PHONE PROBABLY AUTO CORRECTED from wall to wallace, sorry for caps
I would say not only Germany and Berlin. There is a connection to the all post-socialist countries like Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Eastern Germany of course and the others. As a Czech I believe it was a very special age for Europe. And very special song for me at the context. The communist government fallen in all of these countries just in a few years. (Sorry for my shitty English)
@@AtheistDD the iam quoted klaus meine, are you going to argue with Klaus???
@@AtheistDD you're factual right, but the song got very popular after the fall of the Berlin Wall, so ist was the soundtrack of the reunification
aww yeah the Scorps!! I was just listening to their track "Holiday" last night and got a re-realization of how good that song is.
This song is so strong because it talks about hope and joy about the fall of the Berlin Wall
One Swede here! 😎
Next song : Scorpions - Still loving you
One of the best powerballads ever recorded 🤘
The best way to experience Scorpions music besides going to their show, is to go on a long drive... both of you together.... and just listen to them....
Scorpions are one of the greatest bands ever. They have been around for fifty years and have many great songs. You should check out their song Blackout.
It's always funny to see such legendary bands on the underground portion of your channel.
Hey we arent that elitist.
it would've been funny if they were in black fire segment :))
I'm not ashamed to say I cried tears of joy the day they started tearing down the wall. Beautiful day!
Band is 40+ years, all original members. Amazing.
BTW, I agree with Vin about Klaus voice, it's better at the album recording. But that's in the studio, nearly 30 years ago. He's 70 years old now so considering that I think he has a great voice 😎🤘
I am actually impressed he still sounds this good. The tone of his voice, that unique tone, is still there :)
I saw Scorpions live November last year too, in Stockholm. Klaus sounded great! And the band rocks even more now with Mikkey Dee on drums! 🤘😎
@Aaron Miller Agree 😊 he is fast too!
I guess he did the crazy solo and they played Motörheads Overkill? 😎
I saw the Scorpions in their prime in 1989...and while I am not a huge fan of their music I thought they sounded amazing live...like very true to the studio sound. I can give the guy a break now at 70 y/o.
Still Loving You
Featuring Vanessa Mae^
That song always gives me goosebumps
Their songs are timeless and unbeliveably beautiful!
Scorpions , the band from Hannover , the city in which i lived for many years , jawohl !
This song was very important at. My country at that time. I was 16 when the wall come down. Of course it was there all my life and I did not know. How it is without it there. I only hear from my parents and grandparents how it went up just one day is there. Berlin was bad damaged from heavy bombs if world War 2. Neighborhoods only started to recover and then on day the wall begins to. Go up. Cut communities in half and neighborhoods. When it comes down, everyone was on the street dancing and singing. We smashed the wall with hammers and rocks, fireman, police and soldiers for each side smashing it down. It was like magic and nothing can describe it. When the wall cracked the socialist and communist way cracked too. Soon USSR would follow, this song inspired by the happening in Moscow but had meaning for all of that area of Europe that lost so much to the shadow threat of the red cloud over our heads. ❤️🇩🇪 And to all the people that united for peace and freedom and love.
Your so right I was 17
I got tears in my eyes reading this.. I'm from Holland, I was only 9 at the time, still remember the news being on the night the wall came down. The excitement that filled the livingroom, the people on TV so incredibly emotional and happy, all the excited people talking in a foreign language. I couldn't fully grasp the context of it all at that age but it's printed in my memory as a very heavy and happy moment.
I have no experience of this sad tragic moment nor am I german but I definitely can see why you feel this way. God bless ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much for your comment. I still get tears in my eyes thinking about it.❤️🌼👍😃Much love
Fuck uou germans shit , same shit like soviet!!!
This was an anthem back in the 80s . No matter where you went. If you went out to a bar, to dance, to a concert it was going to be played before the night was over.
The simple anthem of a more optimistic age. Scorpions were such a great band to see live, but we were all much younger then.
beautiful song....Scorpions have so many great songs.."big city nights", "Holiday"ect..
the Scorpions are Great, one of the best and have been for a long time. You should watch the original video and documentary to learn more about this song and the Scorpions, it is amazing. The people of Moskow gave him a balalaika (russian guitar) as thanks for coming to play there. They in turn wrote a song about the events on the next album which symbolized the change in Russia and the fall of the German wall separating East & West Germany. They met Gorbachev and were given a gold record, simply amazing. This live version is many many years later and Klaus sings very well but you should see/hear him when this song came out. An amazing voice, great band, perfect song.
It's "Scorpions," not "The Scorpions."
Great song and great band.
The reunification of East & West Germany 🇩🇪
One of the best rock voices in my opinion....
So much historical context in this song. I remember being 15 yrs old and the emotion of watching the news for hours as they began showing footage of the people pouring through the checkpoints between E. Germany and free W. Germany. What 15 yr old me couldn't fully grasp was that these people had been separated ftom family and friends for generations and what a powerful force the wall was in the lives of all Germans on both sides. In the years following the fall of the wall, the magnitude of that night became evident and this song brought it home for millions of people.
1 of the greatest bands of the rock area!!
This is a song about a people when they arose to be the best that they could ever be. valenza solidarity you would have just had to be in the moment to realize how beautiful and how meaningful it really is
I was 25 in 1991 ive been a scorpions fan since 1980 when i was 14 isaw them live in 1985 on the world wide live but my fav scorpions era all through the 70s with uli roth this song is awesome klause has always had a positive message and wants world peace like the song all live under the same sun
I really, really like the last couple of minutes of this reaction video. Thanks for being good people.
It's about East/West German and
came out at the time of reunification, relisten the lyrics in that context of that era, and appreciating that it was the late 90s and as was the style at the time. This was a quality and very important and meaningful anthem for European youth, back in the day. Just see the crowd - it's heartfelt all around..
Scorpions - the rhythm of love 😀
loved that you guys used a portuguese translated video. Us, brazilians, are big fans of classic rock. Hugs from us :)
This is such an important song in music history. I'm an American and remember following the what was going on in Europe and the Berlin Wall. Much love to all my European metal heads!
Rock You Like A Hurricane...their best one ever.
Everytime I hear this song I get moved. It's a very moving song. The video has powerful images. Very glad you did it. Nice to have some positive vibes. You know.✌too bad they block so much stuff(utube)
I saw them play live back in the day, my ears rang for 4 days afterward
Some amazing Scorpions songs;
Always somewhere
When the smoke is going down
Holiday
Born to touch your feelings
Is there anybody there
Evening wind
Yellow Raven
Still loving you
this is till one of my all time favorite songs, the studio release is amazing. The history of this song is also amazing. growing up in the cold war gives a special meaning to me.
Scorpions for life🇵🇹🇵🇹🤘
HERE I AM....... ROCK YOU LIKE A HURRICANE!!!
Do this Scorpions song next.
This was one of the biggest songs of all time.
This is about the fall of the Berlin Wall and the change that came from that and other changes. I was stationed in Germany (U.S. Army) while it was still standing. One of my favorite songs 👏🏻🌟❤️‼️
YES! One of my all time fave songs aside from Kansas- Dust in the Wind - Lisa
A french TV channel with brazilian Portuguese subtitles... I tell you, you guys have a knack for finding the weirdest videos! XD
Trivia time: the Scorpions were formed in 1965, so they are older than Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath and contemporary to the The Doors. The band was founded by Rudolph Schenker, the rhythm guitarist, still in the band to this day, at the age of 17. The singer, Klaus Meine, only joined the band in 1969 but quickly became the "face" of the band. They're both 70 years old now.
Sori you could call "Sodie" Himalaya for red Himalayan salt..........just sayin lol , Great Reaction, I love Scorpions they've been around since 1968. Blackout and lovedrive are greattttttttt songs by them. quote from songfacts "The band wrote this during a visit to Moscow in 1989. The previous year, they became the first hard-rock band to play in Russia, and they returned to play the Moscow Music Peace Festival. At this show, they were inspired by the sight of thousands of Russians cheering them on even though they were a German band. In our interview with Scorpions guitarist Rudolf Schenker, he called this song, "a kind of message soundtrack to the world's most peaceful revolution on earth."
Lead singer Klaus Meine told NME: "Everyone was there: the Red Army, journalists, musicians from Germany, from America, from Russia-the whole world on one boat. It was like a vision; everyone was talking the same language. It was a very positive vibe. That night was the basic inspiration for Wind Of Change."
In 1990, this became the unofficial anthem for the German Reunification, an event that politically lasted from the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 to the official reunification on October 3, 1990. >>"
The instrument is called “ balalaika “, which is the most famous traditional musical instrument in Russia and used hugely during world war 2
Still love this song after all these years :D
Meaningful song of hope. Scorpions were formed in 1965, they've been around for nearly 55 years!!! Listening to this again brings to mind a clever saying that I heard many years ago: "Change is the only permanent thing in this world." For future consideration:
We'll Burn The Sky ("Live" Tokyo Tapes version)
Woman (studio version)
In Trance ("Live" Tokyo Tapes version)
This Is My Song (studio version)
Yeah, the lyrics of the video are in PT-BR, im from brazil so im happy for this coincidence
Changes aren't permanent
But change is
The rock song that made me get into the rock and metal genres.
You need to know, this song was literally the song to bring that wall between west and east germany down (well not really, but it was a big influence). So this song is such a great memory for the german people.
This is a timeless song! Thank you for doing this! My favorite Scorpions song!
Hellfest is a festival held in France.
Also, I see quite a few comments asking for Iron Maiden's Dance of Death and Paschendale. These are epic songs! Please do a reaction to both of these!
I've always thought that scorpions is one of the greatest, yet underrated band. They have such powerful anthems, not even ballads; but heavy stuff too. Could you react for example to "we built this house" (a song I dedicated to my girlfriend), lonely nights, crazy world, still loving you... and their amazing albums mtv unplugged or acoustica. Trust me, they won't let you down.
Scorpions is underrated?
Well, maybe in you country. Here in Colombia or in Europe, or South America The Scorpions are one the greatest acts of hard rock and heavy metal. They ride across the 70s 80s and 90s blasting the world. Today they are old but keep rocking.
@@elkardona They are you never see people talk about Klaus in top voices of Rock I see Axl all the time but where is Klaus
PANDARACT *and Send me an Angel ! :)
The Zoo is my favorite track from them. Heavy AF!
Scorpions is the king in Southeast asia. Create some songs with local singer. At least in my generation scorpions is the one of the greatest
Just heard this new song JINJER - Ape.. Crazy talent from this girl.
Ahhhh the memories... Great song guys.
8:25...his reaction to I Love Lucy, lmfao. Fantastic song and fantastic reaction btw.
The song is actually called "Wind" of Change... still beautiful after all those years, and it will still be played in the year 4949, mark my words! :-D
Scorpions are awesome. Those mid 70’s to 80’s albums were so influential!
Whole Blackout album, Love at the first sting, and Savage amussement rules the start of the 80s
Elkin Cardona Lovedrive and Animal Magnetism are two of my favorites.
Scorpions - When The Smoke Is Going Down, Yellow Raven, Always Somewhere, In Trance...
Every time I hear this song I think about the Moscow Music Peace Festival!
you two never cease to amaze me. you both are so special, keep on doing what you do. luv ya both
My son-in-law is German, and he says the clubs over there still p,ay the Scorpions. They were around in the mid 80s, when I was in school. “There’s No One Like You” is awesome.
They formed in 1965...
Greatest song ever
Klaus Meine the lead singer grew up in northen West Germany not far from the border to East Germany. Then when things dramatically changed in East Europe at the end of the '80's like the fall of the so called Iron Curtain. So Klaus was in Moscow following the river with the same name down to a park in Moscow. He was i guess overwhelmed by everything that were happening and the Berlin wall was teared down. For someone who grew up during the Cold war and close to East Germany all of a sudden be able to not only go to East Germany but Moscow and Russia as well must have been quite emotional. Hence the sentence "listening to the wind of change".
!!SCORPIONS!! the best band in the world!!
Vin is correct, this song is about the fall of the Berlin wall and the supposed "end" of the cold war. When you consider the Scorpions are from Germany, this is a very important time for everyone and them in particular.
hellfest is one of the biggest heavy metal festivals of europe and is located in clisson, france. scorpions are an oldschool hard rock band from germany. this song is celebrating east and westgermany reuniting after the fall of the berlin wall. the lyrics in the refrain are timeless tho
My Two Favorite Scorp Songs Are Winds Of Change And The Zoo
Great song! Thanks for the reaction.
I love the look Vin has when Sori starts rambling on. I keep having flashbacks of Al Pachino's look after hanging up with his wife in a part of the movie "A Dog Day Afternoon" That was rich...lol
It's the look Vin gives looking straight at the camera
Scorpions-Still Loving You.
A Perfect Circle - The Noose!!
Pretty good song guys. You might wanna hear some great Scorpion's song such like "Hurricane", "Blackout", "No one like you". These are really rock anthems.
Such a great song. I'm in a trance.
I followed the moskva down to Gorky park. Klaus was taking a boat down the moskva a river that runs through Moscow to Gorky park at the time when the wall came down and the ussr collapsed and the end of the Cold War was imminent. He sensed hope and change in the air and wrote one of the most powerful songs ever written. I think this song is in the top ten of most listened songs ever.
For crowd involvement Blind Guardian - Valhalla or Bard's Song (Live). The crowd just takes over its amazing to watch.
A classic song and a clean and clear review. Is true, in every fireside we can see an example of "we can do it..".
Have a good night Vin and Sori..
...Hail to The Village!!
yeah i remember reagan and the whole "mr. gorbachev tear down this wall"speech.
Such a great song
That moment when he said "let your balalaika sing what my guitar wants to sing" then followed by the solo was the such an emotional moment
The Sorpions are from Germany. The song was about the reunification of East Germany that had been behind the Iron Curtain in Russia and European West Germany along with the fall of the Berlin Wall, reuniting the German people. The Scorpions have a ton of great songs. China White, Blackout, The Zoo, Another Piece of Meat, Lovedrive, Alien Nation, etc. etc. etc. There's tons more I can name.
Soulreaper by Dissection please.........
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise + Fields of Desolation (LIVE Tyrants of the Rising Sun)
I'm not even from Germany and this song has me in tears Everytime I hear it
I swear it wasn't even 5 minutes ago, I was thinking how cool it would be for you guys to do this song while I was listening to another by them. Lol
Theocracy- Mirror of Souls
Theocracy- I Am
Hello I am from the pittsburgh area your reviews are very awesome and very thoughtful I remember this song when it first came out i really wish some people in the world would folow this song and let everyword become part and let the winds of change blow and erase all the hate and fear that some people have.....please please keep the good work coming
Just saw the scorpions live in Tampa Florida about a month ago and they tore it up. The Scorpions have been around for 50 years+ and both Klaus(vocals) and Rudolph (rhythm guitar) are 70 years young This iconic song is from a time of change, the end of the cold war, Perestroika, and the fall of the Berlin Wall (of which I have a piece). The 80's was a great time to be young in those days, innovation in music, politics, and technology that has lead us to this marvelous time we live in now.
"still loving you"
Dissection - The Somberlain (studio vers pls)
Watain - Devil’s Blood / Sworn to the Dark
The Devil’s Blood - She
Some important context: In 1988, Scorpions performed in Russia. This was a very big deal. West German Bands si ply did not do that, and it was representative of not only the band's stature, but persistence. They weee very much a part kf the cultural thawing that made glasnost possible.
You should listen to "Still loving you" by Scorpions. I am not a fan of Scorpions but this song is something else, it's so beautiful.
A nice touch is that, the band actually gave their platinum record to Gorbachev.
Scorpions songs:
Hey You
Make it Real
We'll Burn the Sky
Lovedrive
Rock You Like a Hurricane
No One Like You
We'll Burn The Sky
is the best!
Still loving you
This put a big, goofy-ass grin on my face.
Do Sails of Charon. Coolest riff ever. Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys 🎃
Sails of charon is great
Uli Jon Roth era Scorpions is the best.
Testament & Yngwie Malmsteen have covered The Sails of Charon, as have a few other bands as well.
@@Bucketbothead007 check this cover out ua-cam.com/video/TeaEtB2UOF0/v-deo.html
A German band singing an ode to Russia, in English, with Portuguese subtitles. Gotta love it.
Klaus Meine is a fantastic vocalist. The Scorpions have been one of my favourite bands since the mid-70s. To make it as a top band and remain there for all those decades is great, but to achieve that in a foreign language - RESPECT.
I was an American soldier stationed in Germany and my wife was dying and with all that and I had my job and at the time Europe was changing from the cold war . So this song hold so much meaning for me because it just came out and it was everything I was feeling. My wife never recovered . This song takes me back to that moment.
What strikes me about this is just how good Klaus still is as a singer after all these years. Not my favorite Scorpions song but this is absolutely, positively a 10. Though this song also makes me somewhat sad because I feel like in many ways we have squandered the hopefulness of this song. But this song is about the fall of the Berlin wall. This album was released a year later after the wall came down. I can only imagine what this song means to those german fans. So while the song is fairly universal in its themes, when you get the context for the crowd, it means so much more.
Big sing alongs are not all THAT common. But what you are seeing are megahuge metal bands with fans who know literally every word to these songs. When you have that sort of captive audience its a special experience to allow them to sing. This was a pretty crazy sing along but NOTHING I have ever seen tops Blind Guardian. Hansi commands a crowd like no other.
You guys really need to see Blind Guardian. Bard's Song or Valhalla. Bard's Song if you really want to see the crowd interact. The Wacken performance has both Bard's Song and Valhalla in one 11 minute song. So I'd go with that one.
PS the lead singer of Scorpions is also Klaus.
This song was the anthem of the fall of the Soviet Empire. It was a different world. There was great hope... I've watched a couple of your videos. It's striking how much goes over the woman's head.
