The Labour government insists all pensioners will be better off with the £470 which we are going to get anyway under the triple lock. However, I have lost my £200 winter fuel allowance, I will pay an additional £103 in income tax, my vehicle excise duty for my small car has doubled by £220, my council tax will increase by £150, this lot alone adds up to £673 back to the government, so please explain how I am better off.

Try this vile trick with people still working and the Unions would rise up in support.

We can hardly expect "Age Concern", to rise-up, to challenge the creepy (and getting creepier) Starmer and his uncouth, undereducated bimbo side-kick and his totally clueless and characterless chancellor, for whom the "humanity transplant" failed.
This clueless chancellor and her Bully Boy boss do not give a damn about the older generation, who have provided, for their generation and for that of THEIR children.
We are a soft target who are easy-pickings for a government with no empathy, with the population - and no sympathy for those, with financial problems - despite those people having contributed to the public purse throughout their working lives.
Now "it's our money" is their mentality!
They, the corrupt, uncaring government, will heat their publicly sponsored second homes, travel First Class, receive inappropriate gifts, enjoy High Dining and all with no remorse or thought for other people.
They will encourage unwelcome, ILLEGAL immigrants (CRIMINALS - by definition), feed them, house them, whilst ignoring the "elders" who generated the money, that they play games with.
The money that is paying for these unwelcome "guests" (who are ruining the hotels).
The corrupt politicians, will do whatever they wish with "their money" - but they will not give it (BACK!) to where it is most needed.
The previous government were crooked, cheating liars but "this lot" - they are a grubby seedy group of self-serving narcissists who, THEY BELIEVE, can do no wrong.

At least pensioner’s buying power is protected as they get an above inflation rise each year due to the triple lock.
With the price of energy I don’t think the difference between turning on or off the heating is £200 or £300 paid into your account. It would help but I get the sense the media are over sensationalising the situation meaning there are many pensioners that think they cannot turn on their heating because of the coverage

      @@RTG1031
There was attempt to recover after Covid, the Tories knew they would not get another government so they decided to fill the pockets of themselves and their donors & mates. Any sane Government, economist, banker, human being would not release over £800 billion into circulation without some means to get at least a fraction of it back. It was 100% deliberate so yes it does count. This Labour is doing what all parties do which is protect the established order and class. It's that simple.
Between 2010 and 2019 the number of UK billionaires doubled from about 25 (give or take a few) to about 55 (again can't remember exact number). Then between 2020 to mid 2023 that number exploded to 177, over £850 billion goes missing into the ether apparently. In 2018 the UN Envoy started his investigation into UK poverty and child poverty which continued in 2019 and was released beginning (after being blocked by Boris) 2020 stating that the UK had a poverty issue. People keep using Covid as an excuse as well as the war but all that did is provide opportunity for them to funnel near unlimited money into the pockets of the rich and powerful corporations. I always look at 2008 - 2019 because you can clearly see the damage and the trends. It was clear what was happening but far too many kept ignoring it as they would focus on specific issues rather than the entire picture.
It wouldn't matter what Labour claimed it was going to do, even if it was all good. The UK debt has more than doubled even AFTER cuts between 2010-2018 amounting to well over £700 billion all while claiming tax receipts were up. How can you borrow so much while saving so much and make more than normal but end up with NOTHING to show for it. The UK is on a downward spiral because no one is trying anything new, it's the same tactics again and again.
Cuts to services where possible: already crumbling apart
Tiny investment but nothing that involves borrowing: like pouring water out of leaking boat with a tea spoon
Raising taxes on those working for pay cheques: too many broke or surviving month to month
Always teetering on the edges and only focused on growth through giving businesses what they want.
The idea of fixing the NHS & social care to get 7 million people on waiting lists back to working full time doesn't enter their minds. The idea of a nation suffering record mental health issues lowers productivity, quality of work, work absence etc. People have more money in their pocket would have more disposable income which would actually grow the economy, nope too much common sense. Government and vast majority of public are broke so tax those that actually have money, nope somehow the math which should be simple doesn't add up, tax those that don't have much left. Same old same old.

This is the number of pensioners in the present day that may/will be pushed into poverty, if this is the case then pensioners of the future may/will be pushed into poverty also, It's sounding very bleak. One thing is for sure, the politicians that sat in parliament and voted to take away the winter fuel payment from pensioners they will never be faced with poverty.
