Speaking of Brexit, I remember Boris Johnson moronically boasting about how good it will be for British farmers to compete with the imports of cheaper meat from abroad via new trade deals. Anyone who disagreed with him and correctly pointed out that British farmers do not need more competition as it will decrease their income was called "unpatriotic" and Johnson claimed they didn't have faith in our farmers.

When we left the EU the Brexit campaign told farmers that 100% they would keep their subsidies, Boris Johnson, who does not have a good relationship with the truth, also said the same. The National Farmers Union council was overwhelmingly in support of "Remain" but decided not to campaign, as it would upset some of their larger farmers, also Michael Gove ran around 'promising the earth' to farmers and many enviromental groups were supportive. In many cases, property such as a house is a major part of the estate. In the vast majority of cases, the price of property in the UK has increased considerably. First homes have not been taxed as such.

There certainly is speculation about how this policy will be good news for investors that want to invest in green energy, housing and high end manufacturing...Ive just been reading an article in UK Investor magazine about it.
'Farm estates selling off their land to housebuilders or renewable energy providers will reduce the amount of land the government has to pay out subsidies for and provide much-needed land to facilitate the construction of the two things the UK is in desperate need of - new homes and a reliable domestic power supply.'
We are only 62% food self sufficient and a world full of unrest. Strikes me as a very bad idea to remove the resource and damage the intergenerational knowledge and skills base that feeds us.
Also concerning is that the very wealthy and corps will buy up that land, still get IHT hit at a lower amount and a hanful of corps and landowners will almost completely control food production and therefore prices in the UK.

I work hard and someone who is self employed I have to pay more tax then an employed person every year I pay the tax I owe and and half of what HMRC think I make in the following year so in effect I pay almost double tax on my income every year and this is felt across the board with self employed people, the unfairness is all around I find unfair to pay so much tax for it be wasted on things that people wont care about like there own health, or helping immigrates settle here, we as country are now broke with a debt equal to economy so please do not use the uk is the 6th richest BS we are like the farmers now asset rich but cash poor so Owen you do not represent vast majority of people, because the majority rich or poor are feeling neglected and hitting farming is only an over communist tax on the people.

So My Dad is 91 and my mother died 11 years ago. So Just 1 million allowance for the business (forget the £1m for the house). So 300 acres is worth £3m plus machinery and stock (£1m). So tax is on £4 less £1m allowance. So tax bill is £600,000. THE FARM EARNS £50,000 Per year!!!!!!!

Lots of children have to sell their beloved family homes to pay the 40% inheritance tax...why should farms be different? Sell off part of the farm to pay the £60k a year tax bill. Or sell it all and pocket more than £3m of INHERITANCE, never forgetting how lucky you are.
