Clay Shelburn I've seen a few of your vids and your guitar playing is incredible. If I may give some constructive criticism though, when I hear you sing it makes me think "why do so many people all try to sound like contestants on The Voice?" I feel like maybe if you cut down on some of the oohs and ahhs when singing and simplify it a bit it may work to your advantage. I could just be stuck in the past though as not much modern stuff appeals to me.
Maybe if you listen to this and then to Otis Redding's recording one after the other you can hear my point. He is very much more subdued. This seems to be common these days when people cover songs, they just seem to add too much to it in my opinion. Anyways good luck to you man.
+endocry So you want him to try and sound like Otis Redding instead? Clay put his own style to this song, not O.R. or anyone other than how the song felt to him. That's the mark of a true pro. I love Otis Redding. I have all his stuff and if I want to hear him...I play his stuff.
Bobby Barbara Smith My point is he sounds exactly like so many amateur singers that cover tunes. The more subdued singers usually sound the most genuine. I'm not necessarily telling him to try and sound like anyone. It's great if you have a different opinion. My comment was addressed to him, not you, so I don't really get the point of you replying to me.
