    I am a new diver and I purchased the Shearwater Teric. When I made the purchase I thought it might be overwhelming at first. But once I started playing with my dive computer the more I felt comfortable with it. I love your video on the Teric. You made me feel like the purchase I made was the best decision I have made going into my scuba lessons. Keep up the good work. I am a true believer in Teric Computer.

      First of all, welcome to the world of scuba!! Second of all - great choice on the Teric! I had the same feelings as you before I got to use one - I was convinced it was going to be a complicated beast, how wrong was I! Glad the video helped you feel more comfortable in your purchase! Just wondering if you have heard if there is any word of a new shearwater coming out? The teric is amazing but I love the idea of 'watch sized' computer for everyday use and the teric is a little chunky for my wrist.
    I would buy the MK2s in a heartbeat but no AI is a deal breaker..
    Unfortunately where I live in Tasmania there are no dive shops that sell any Garmin dive computers so i'm unable to see the mk2i in the flesh to see if it is any smaller than the teric.

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  3 роки тому

      Good question - and sadly not one I can answer. I've not heard ANYTHING at all on a new Teric, or any updated Shearwater products for that matter. But they must surely be thinking / planning / doing something as the Mk2 must have really impacted the Teric sales! The MK2 is a very similar size to the Teric, so if the Teric is too big for you then the MK2 will be for sure. Is a shame the MK2S doesn't have AI - agree with you on that one!

      @@BlackMantaPhotography How does the Mk2i look at depth in comparison to the Teric? If you had to choose one that you were taking into a mission critical scenario, lets say overhead environment, cave or deep technical, which one do you pick up and use?

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  3 роки тому

      @@diveflyfish that's a really good question. Both the Teric and the Mk2i have screen display options that are clear and concise - the Mk2i offers many more customisable options than the Teric, and both have very good screen brightness levels. The Teric is marketed as a full on Tec DC and most people will go to the Shearwater brand for that reason, but trust me, the guys at Garmin have produced a seriously good bit of kit and has the full capability of the Teric.
      There isn't anything the Teric can do that the Mk2i can't, but there is plenty the Mk2i can do that the Teric can't. I also find the Garmin Dive and Connect apps very good, and remember the Mk2i is just as useful on the surface as it is underwater.

      So the vibration - you could feel it, but in my own opinion it was what you could say as mild. When compared to the D5, the D5 was a much stronger vibrate. You could feel both - just thought the D5 was more apparent.
      I was wearing the Waterproof Neoskin wetsuit with both computers, which is about 1mm think. Posted the review on this suit 3 months ago - just so you know what I was wearing in the water.

      @BlackMantaPhotography  5 років тому

      Victor Cisneros that’s a really really tough decision, and don’t envy you at all..!
      The price of the Suunto obviously wins, and actually if you’re never going to go down the TEC route the D5 would be my choice. As a recreational DC there aren’t many better. The only down side is the battery life. If you have the brightness set low you’ll get up to 12 hours of diving from it. If you are one of those people that likes brightness set to the brightest levels you’ll only get a few hours of use.
      The Teric is another level of technology. If you want to flash the cash then it might be the last DC you’ll ever buy...!?

    How to change the language of teric diving computer

  • @fullmetal1002

    Just want to ask an additional question, does the teric turns off dive functions when swimming or snorkeling? I never take my watch off even in the water. I don't like if this starts beeping or making notes when i'm just doing those two activities.

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  4 роки тому

      RegisNex346 you’ll be fine - I’ve often worn it swimming on the pool, and never experience any issues with beeping and alerts.
      There is also a set mode in the free diving menu called ‘pool’, but you’ll need to remember to come out of it before you take it for a dive!
      You’ll be able to find more about this function on page 61 of the manual. Hope that helps 👍🏻

    hi i got a question, i've seen this on many dive computers but i have no idea how it works. For example like Teric, it can pair up with two transmitters and can change up to 5 gases. My question is how does the teric know the different gasses you dive with when there are only 2 transmitters?

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  4 роки тому +1

      RegisNex346 valid question and will do my best to answer.
      The transmitters will only tell you the content remaining/gas pressure in a tank that has a transmitter fitted. So in an example of when we have been Technical Diving, we have will have 2 x side mount tanks with 21%, and maybe 1 x stage tank of 50% and 1 x stage tank of say 75%. We might have the transmitters on the side mount tanks so we can always see what our run gas is. On the stage tanks we would have normal SPG’s, but when we switch to them we want to tell the dive computer that we are now on that gas. So the transmitters will tell the pressure of the tank they are fitted to, but you can tell the computer you are using up to 5 gases (in your example) for a planned accelerated decompression dive. Does that help explain?

    • @fullmetal1002
      @fullmetal1002 4 роки тому

      @@BlackMantaPhotography think so. i need to put it to practice if i want to understand it. I get it theoretically, just that i've never used it before.

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  4 роки тому

      RegisNex346 practice is always the best way. Try to detach in your brain the relevance of the number of available gases and the number of transmitters. You can dive with multiple tanks of all different %’s of gas without the need for transmitters. Replace the need for transmitters with SPG’s - all they do is tell you the tank pressure. Not the blend of gas you have

    Being that you have extensive experience with the Suunto Eon series, I’m curious if you think it would be worth selling my Eon Core in favor of the Teric (or Perdic for that matter). What are your thoughts?

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  5 років тому +1

      The EON Core is a great dive computer - it all depends on what type of diving you're planning to do. The Core will do everything you need it to do recreationally, has an easy menu system to navigate, but is specific to the task of diving.
      There's no doubt that the Teric is simply one of the best DC's on the market right now, plus it doubles up as an everyday watch - there's the main difference for me. If it were me and I only needed a device for scuba diving and already owned the EON Core then I'd stick with what I have. If I was looking to upgrade to a newer unit or wanted a device that I could wear every day then yes, I'd go Teric. Unsure if that helps you make a decision or not though??

    • @JaeEmZee
      @JaeEmZee 5 років тому +1

      Black Manta Photography, thank you for the reply! I appreciate it. I love the Eon Core, but it’s hard to ignore all the Shearwater love all over the internet (and Suunto naysayers)...
      I’ve only had 3 issues with the Suunto:
      1) The battery “only” lasts 13 hours
      2) I’ve had a failed Pod (water intrusion)
      3) The computer doesn’t help you dive when you leave it on the charger in the hotel room! ;-)
      Thanks again!

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  5 років тому

      @@JaeEmZee I think you might have answered your own question. If you love the EON Core then why change it? I review lots of computers, but the fact is the 2 that I own and would accompany me on a normal dive trip even if I was reviewing kit are my EON Steel and Suunto Vyper Air. They have all my dive history, and I can operate them with my eyes shut. When it comes to the time to replace then I'll likely go Shearwater, but I'm unlikely to seel what I have to upgrade just yet. We have dabbled in Technical diving and are TEC 50 qualified - if we were to follow this route more then undoubtedly we would go Shearwater, but as pretty much all our diving is recreational we have all we need. Everyone has their own opinion, but if you're comfortable with what you have whats the problem.
      1) Totally get the battery life issues with the Suunto. 13 hours must be with the setting on brightest, so if you don't want to turn the setting down you still get 3 days of diving from it.
      2) Any pod could go faulty regardless of the DC you were using.
      3) Can't help you with that one I'm afraid... hahaha... but I do always dive with 2 DC's so hopefully if I forgot or lost 1 I'd have a back up.

      Carlos Santangelo hi Carlos - that’s a fair question. I think most comparisons on the Teric and D5 is because they are relatively new so hot on the market.
      In my own experience with technical most steer toward Shearwater in some form (Perdix etc) but you call out a valid point on the Suunto DX.
      We have a trip at the beginning of December to dive some parts of Mexico including the Cenotes, so this could be a great opportunity to compare the 2 units.

    2) can I qmonitor my buddies bottle if he does not have this computer?

      Hi Bjoern. The Teric is an amazing computer! To answer your questions direct.
      1) Yes you can see the gas contents of 2 tanks with the Teric if both tanks have the transmitters, although it doesn't show GTR..
      2) No - the Teric uses the standard VHF format, so you would need to be with 3-6ft (1-2m) to see another transmitter reading.
      3) No - there are no gimmicks on the Teric. It is solely a dive computer.
      However.... I'm going to urge you to watch the latest upload on this channel about the Garmin Descent Mk2i as this does solve some of your questions.
      1) The Mk2I will allow you to see 2 tank gasses on the same screen at the same time and also GTR.
      2) If your buddy also has a Garmin pod attached you will be able to see their gas as it uses sonar technology and has a range of up to 10m (tested it this week and had incredible range - video on that will be up at the weekend). This new technology opens up so many options for buddy diving.
      3) The Descent is a full on dive computer, fitness watch and life manager. It does have maps, golf courses and lots of other things but isn't overwhelming.
      Definitely check it out.

    BUT I can not find anywhere any information what is the range (in meters) my com will see/read my son's pod/tank preassure?
    Meaning how fak he can be and still have connection to my comp

    • @BlackMantaPhotography
      @BlackMantaPhotography  5 років тому +3

      Hi Jan - great question. An antenna inside the dive computer receives the signals from the transmitter when it is positioned within 72 in/6 ft/1.8 m of the transmitter and within a zone parallel or at a 45-degree angle to the transmitter. Best reception is achieved when the dive computer and transmitter are within 36 in/3 ft/0.9 m of each other. During a dive you may at times move the dive computer so that is out of the signal pattern of the transmitter, resulting in a temporary interruption of the link. The link may also be interrupted after a strobe light flashes. The link will be restored within 4 seconds after the dive computer is reoriented, moved back into range, or the interference clears.
      Hope that helps answer your question? In the case of checking the air in your sons tank, as long as your DC is within the range of his transmitter you 'should' be fine. Cheers!
