None of them! I don't speak for everyone in the deaf and hard of hearing community, but these apps are awful. Reasons they contain ads or ask for payments. To me, that's like robbing an old lady. Let's get serious! What do deaf people really need for aps. One would be subtitles for phone calls, and Roger's text app in your video does that, but at a cost. Android/Google does it free with Live Captions. The second thing deaf people need is like Eva, but free. Again, Android/Google does this free with Live Transcribe. No ads, no subscriptions, NO Robbery! The apps you share care more about money than their purpose, I'll stay with the software designer that care more about their audience.
his idea was introduced in 2014 by the BSC Consultng Group...since then the cost and quality particularly noise cancelling headphones from sony has come a long way. I am really glad that some manufacturers are improving things for hearing loss including commercial applications.
I used SoundPrint to measure the noise level when I test-drove cars. It requires another person to drive. I don’t send the data to SoundPrint. I drive on the same stretch of highway and get the car up to the speed limit, then turn on SoundPrint for 15 seconds. Since I am deaf in my right ear and my good ear is next to the door when I drive, having a quiet car helps to hear the passengers.
Thanks so much for your explanation so detailed about the apps for hard to hearing or deaf, I am hard to hearing and loosing understanding of words, I have Ménière’s disease bilateral and I have 2 autoimmune illnesses, and I was looking for an app to help me with my hard hearing, thanks so much.
Hey Sarah Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Firstly you can adjust the settings for headphones to be monaural depending on your phone. Secondly have you checked out this app swiftricity.com/headshadow/? Thanks for watching, Matthew
Hi Joolz thanks for the feedback. I’ll look at reducing my pace for future videos. Is there an accent that you would prefer me to do going forward? Thanks for watching, Matthew
Apple Live Listen uses the phone's microphone to listen. It is a good feature, but not perfect because of delay if you are having a conversation. You will have to get used to hearing yourself and hearing yourself a split second after you talk.
I just found out I have always been partially deaf and I didn’t realise, but now the world is sounding so much better. I’m 62 and raised a family and worked full time by reading peoples lips and pretending I knew what was happening around me sometimes it became dangerous for me. Thanks for this video I definitely will use these free apps. Respect and appreciate ❤
I have a pair of Starkey Evolve AI 2400 in-ear hearing aids and a Galaxy A32 5G phone, the Thrive app only works sometimes, I'm going to try these and see if they are better. Thanks.
So... Find a Quiet Place only works if a lot of people use the app in a lot of places, right? Tunity only works on live TV, not streaming, right? Chatable is redundant if one has a Roger Device or a Resound Minimic, right?
Hi Abigail, thanks for taking the time to ask about the apps. Hopefully I can shed some light…. Yes, Soundprint relies on crowdsourced data which is the beauty of the app; similar apps like to the popular GPS app, Waze. Tunity requires it to be live. It’s primarily designed for if you’re out and about watching live TV. If you’re looking for something for home or streaming from the web, then a TV streamer would be a better option. Chatable is designed as an alternative to other accessories yes. I hope that helps to answer your questions, Matthew
Phonak my call-to-text I don't use it because I stream my call to my paradise and can hear calls fine. Good to use if you want to look back at what was said though.
Seeking recommendations to assist my 80-year-old dad, who struggles with hearing aids merely amplifying sound, leaving him unable to match the fast pace of conversation. Any app suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated as this is for my dad. Thank you!"
Hey Burgess, I think a trip to the audiologist for fine tuning will do a lot more than any apps. The transcription ones will help but he may also benefit from some accessories. Matthew
my android tablet does not have googles live caption so when i watch you tube video that does not have captions i cant hear. do any of these apps work on videos you watch?
I'm wondering about the new apps that claim to isolate people's voices around the table using your own headphones. Any updates for 2024? Thanks so much
What about the Google apps: Phone (captioning phone calls), Live Transcribe ( captioning), Recorder (recording & transcribing), and Translate (translation). The are standard on the Google Pixel series of phones. Most, if not all, of these apps run directly on the Pixel phone without an Internet connection and they are FREE. The captioning feature of the Pixel 6 Pro phone lets me use my cell phone more and is more accurate than CaptionCall which is also a fine device (CaptionCall is also available as a phone app for Android and IOS). IMO, the Pixel phones are the phone to get if you are hearing impaired. They pair well and work great with my Phonak P90-13/CROS.
Couldn't agree more Douglas. And you forgot about Google's Sound Amplifier App! Check out our Android guide here: www.hearingtracker.com/resources/android-hearing-loss-accessibility-guide
I can't remember the name of this app. And I'm trying to find it. A deaf person called my Job a few weeks ago and it sounded like a real person. The sound of the voice was a lot like a mid 30s white American male. It wasn't robotic at all. I thought it was so cool. There was no delay.
i m deaf. i cant hear even with hearing aid since few years. i want any app for speech and calls transcriber but i could not get any app helpful still. i m from pakistan and your mentioned apps are not available in my country. is there any app that can help for voice transcribe perfectly in Pakistan. I m using Google live transcriber for live speech to text but it is not transcribe Urdu in accurate means. People says something and it transcribe something else
Hey Shahnaz, sadly I can't see apps available in your area. You can change the location on the app store and download apps from overseas however! Thanks of watching and I hope this helps, Matthew
Bummer about Chatable going under. Though I just got a new pair of Phonak Virto Paradise ITEs, and seemed like it wasn't going to pair well with them anyway. To wit... Wondering if there are any other apps that might work to turn my iPhone into a remote mic? I know Phonak makes a whole range of accessories just for that (really appreciated your video reviewing those) but given the high prices, would be great if there was a 3rd party app that people on stricter budgets could access for that purpose. Any other 3rd party apps like Chatable you can recommend, particularly ones that might work well with Phonak bluetooth aids? Thanks!
Hey Barry, thanks for watching and taking the time to reply. Have you tried www.heardthatapp.com/? Let me know how you get along. Thanks for watching, Matthew
Google Play tells me that Tunity will not work on my Android phone and refuses to take me to the app. I am guessing that the app is USA centric and that it will not work for Australian TV (or probably any other country outside of the USA, for that matter) ?
Hi Sir I'm from Mumbai India my sonwho is 27yr old is wearing a coclear implant n hearing aid too but he cannot understand any conversations done on telephone due to which he is lacking behind in his career growth n not getting any jobs due to his inability to attend phonecalls. Please can you help so that he can hear n understand all phonecalls.🙏
Hi Carol! When bluetooth is connected to an audio device, it distorts the audio measurement resulting in inaccurate sound level measurements. Thus, bluetooth needs to be turned off on the phone. Note: this does NOT mean you need to disable the device's (i.e. hearing aid, music streaming, earbuds) connection to your phone, rather turn off the bluetooth button. Hope this helps!
@@HearingTracker Oh, I have been using it for some time, but when you bring it up there's a splash screen that tells you that it won't be supported, and will eventually stop working. Unfortunately, I paid for a lifetime subscription. Come to think of it, all my Sears warranties have disappeared as well.

Live Transcribe is great and free. Not perfect, but when it's working it's great. I always use it at doctors appointments.
Brilliant! Thanks for watching, Matthew

Thank you from thailand
Thanks for watching 😆 Matthew
Thank you for the great review. Are there apps you would recommend to enhance hearing for single sided hearing loss?
Hey Sarah
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Firstly you can adjust the settings for headphones to be monaural depending on your phone. Secondly have you checked out this app swiftricity.com/headshadow/? Thanks for watching, Matthew
You are speaking to people who can’t hear very well with an accent and fast. I wish this was on an email.
Hi Joolz thanks for the feedback.
I’ll look at reducing my pace for future videos. Is there an accent that you would prefer me to do going forward? Thanks for watching, Matthew
Use CC!
You can adjust any UA-cam video to a slower speed by changing the playback speed.
Also you can tap CC to show subtitles or Close Captioning. It will increase your understanding regardless any accent spoken!

What all would you use that would amplify a person in the same room as you if you are hard of hearing and have headphones? Thanks
Unless that Rogervoice has an actual human captioning the calls, there's no way I'd pay $29.99/mo for it

Great video but what about Greek deaf? These are not supported for us
Hey Giorgios, let us know if you come across anything. I can’t access the Greek apps from the UK. Thanks for watching, Matthew
This is a good list. Which of these works worldwide and which is US only? I know you mentioned that in one case but what about the rest?
Hey V. As far as I am aware the only one that is limited to the US is Tunity. Thanks for watching, Matthew
