That man isn’t only monetarily rich, but he’s rich in humility, humanity, and has a sincerity and zest for life that’s rare to see from regular folk let alone someone rich. @@preciousmousse Yup. Also even more common is the misconception that rich people don't work hard to earn or maintain their wealth. Even most athletes and celebrities have crazy drive and work ethic. But people act like it's so easy, then why wouldn't everyone be millionaires? Lol
This guy isn't like most of Hollywood. He actually knows where the 28lb bag of beans are, in his pantry. & enjoys cooking for family and friends. My point is that, he hasn't forgotten where he came from, & doesn't run his success's over the top of others. He is 1 example of why immigrants are so valuable to our nation. Who would not enjoy being an acquaintance or friends with someone like this, who is so balanced. Thks Peter!
Like Joseph said some of his friends are tired of hearing can you help me out.... can you give me this or that...etc My daughter was driving home from work in the middle of a blizzard, she saw a car in the ditch, pulled over and offered to give them a ride back home. All they wanted was a ride to the nearest restaurant until their ride can come, however the restaurant was closed, so she stayed with them in her car, until their ride came. They enjoyed talking about their interests, current events, etc. They asked her name and contact info, and when their ride arrived, they asked if they could offer her $$ (all $100's bills). She said no, donate $ to a good cause of their choice. They did, they ended up giving $$ to a good cause of their choice.. HER. They ended up helping my daughter with school, internships/connections, and holding her wedding in their company retreat center in the woods, and most of all their friendship. I think if my daughter took the "$100's bills", it would have ended at that.... My experience if most "famous or rich" people just want to be treated like a normal person.
You know absolutely nothing about who lives in these neighborhoods and yet, you’re making a generalized statement. You are on the opposite spectrum of the “out of touch” group, the bitter in the bottom.
Holy shit. I think I actually sat next to this guy on a plane once. A trip from NY to LA. The airline upgraded my seat to first class because I had an issue with a previous flight. After the first hour I remember talking to him practically the entire way. He was such an interesting guy. I remember he told me was in the movie business and that he grew up in the Middle East, but I had no idea how successful he really was. Crazy. Awesome guy. Very humble and down to earth. I’d like to hear the full story some day.
@@kkonabill95 Yea I’m like 99% certain because he had a very similar demeanor and I remember after telling him I lived in Boston, he said he helped make the movie “Jaws” which was filmed in that area. It was also the only time I’ve ever flown first class and the guy sitting across the isle from me was extremely cool lol. I couldn’t tell you what he looked like, but the things he said and his energy always stuck with me.
I have never commented on your videos before, but I loved this video. I loved the fact that a person who immigrated to the USA at 18 yo, appreciated our freedoms more than some that were born in the USA & don't understand the privilege of being born in a free state. This video moved me to tears of thankfulness for his love of our country. Citizens around the world seek what we take for granted everyday. Thank you!
Agreed! He emphasized that he was an American and grateful. Only in this country.. As a Black woman, I do not identify as African American.. I'm an American. Only in this country could my parents come from poverty, graduate college, and have children that each make 6 figures per year.

@@aerokasyeal4840 I couldn't agree more as a Mestizo (or indigenous Mexican American, born in the U.S.) we often forget that history, it's all too easy, but *we must also realize what those Europeans built*, opposed to what their homeland became, here we have freedom/democracy over there they had/have dictatorship and other forms of bs hybrid communism they didn't settle for that here. All thanks to the founding father's ideals of a good life, we live in the freest place on earth. Some, "patriot" white Americans of today like pointing at them (the founding fathers) and "taking credit" for their achievements, in order to justify a "White America" which is crazy. Anyway, all else aside (which I do not say lightly, as to not be dismissive of many atrocious events in history), they made a country that seemed impossible at that time in history, not because of their race, but rather because of their *ideals* on what makes a country worth living in, bringing up natives and assigning them ownership by "default" is just as disappointing as those white Americans claiming the US could do without other races. If this was native land today, I wonder what it would look like, likely better but less progressive or likely worst and just as progressive. regardless of race ideals of the founding fathers is what makes America great, imo. NOT RACE
@@aerokasyeal4840 "Native Americans" are, in fact, not native at all to this continent. They are descendants of nomadic Asian hunter gatherer tribes that migrated across the Bering Strait land bridge thousands of years ago. So America really doesn't belong to them either according to your logic. Lets also not forget that these so called "Native American" tribes warred with each other for control of the land and the people. The history on mankind is one of war and conquest. It is not exclusive to any one race or ethnicity.
I met Joseph in July 2022 at a restaurant in Nice France while on vacation. Him and his wife were incredibly kind and down to earth people. He kept telling me over and over that I need to get in to real estate developing and that if he could do it all over again he would skip producing movies and go right in to real estate developing. So cool to now see this video pop up and hear more of his story.
Oh god. I don't know which is worse. Hollywood or real estate development. People are homeless because of real estate "development". How about factories or farms?
@@juliettailor1616 Sure, people are homeless because of it, but more people have homes because of it. Nothing in life is without consequences. The greater good is the priority.
@@AlecWyld what on earth are you talking about? How is in in the greater good to have homelessness? True home ownership (i e. home paid off, no mortgage) is at an all time low. Renting, homelessness and adult children living at home is at an all time high and it's not because of the lack of housing, it's because of the lack of AFFORDABLE housing. Los Angeles has a sea of homeless people in a city where up to 15% of homes are empty. Why is that? It's because of real estate "development". Entire, once thriving, downtown areas are now devalued and rundown. Why? Because of real estate "development" i.e. building malls and suburban sprawl. Now the middle class is being crushed and is shrinking rapidly due to the even greater concentration of wealth in the hands of guys like the one in this video, who advised the commenter to get into real estate. why on earth was this his best video? I agree it was a good video but I do not see this as better then some others. I can only hope you do not see this as his best video because of the guest in the video. because if you value stories from successful people better then from other people then I think you miss the whole point and value of what Peter is doing. Unfortunately, he is one in a million, and had he come today, in this climate, economy and state of political situation, he would not have made it. We see the the tremendous disparage between the mega rich and the disappearing middle class that is more and more turning into the poor class. And it's like that all over United States. Most people are hardly scrambling by, I have to work two jobs to pay rent, pay my car payments, car insurance and I don't even have children. I am currently enrolled in a master's degree program unable to manage the cost of living, let alone my high tuition. Los Angeles is full of crime, poverty, and drugs. And skid row is expanding and growing coast to coast, it's littered with garbage, drug addicted, mentally sick individuals who are discarded by society, they defecate and urinate on the streets ;like animals, crime and lawlessness is rampant, and yet within a few blocks you have mega mansions, high rise apartments costing millions of dollars, you have Sunset strip and all the luxury brands. Reality is this man made it, but little is said about the thousands and millions of people who move to Hollywood in hopes to make it big and end up homeless, drug addicted and in morgues. That's not being addressed. I don't care that this one dude made millions of dollars because millions of people live below the poverty line, because not everyone can go into Hollywood and strike it rich and the notion that everyone can have the American dream is at best just a dream, but not a reality for majority of young Americans today and it's not because they're not working hard enough, it is because everything is monopolized and the corporations are exploiting the every day workers, paying them low wages and pocketing billions in profit, while the people that work for them can hardly afford their rent and food.

I can see why Joseph and his wife were attracted to each other, they are unpretentious, genuine, and appreciative for what they have. They have shared goals- hard work, and family. So often with such a wealthy producer you would have the classic bimbo wife, and tons of phony affectations. What a fascinating interview! Excellent interview, Peter! Not because of Joseph’s wealth as much as the wisdom he freely shared. Everything he said was spot on. This is the greatest country in the world and anyone who has the drive and ambition can make something of himself. Very inspiring!
Man, Joseph was so inspirational. I believe him completely in that the American Dream is hard work and tenacity. Nothing is handed to you in this life, but in the U.S. you have opportunities that you have no place else. Self made millionaire. Nice job Peter...and Joseph.
A lot of people get it handed to them, it's called generational wealth, there are a lot more people that get it handed to them then those that actually work hard and achieve this wealth from nothing.
Why would u think that such an opportunity doesn't exist anywhere else? Like is America the only well off country in the world that gives its people's rights and opportunity?

As a small business owner I found this to be quite inspiring. I provide low cost mental health services to people. I do it because I love it, not to become rich, but I need to at least be comfortable. That’s hard to achieve sometimes. But, I feel if I stay creative and work my ass off I will accomplish my goals and that’s success. Joseph seems to have done what he loves and that’s why he’s successful.

Love, love, love this episode Peter! This man was so pleasant to listen to and learn from. I have so much more I’d like to say, however I’m in such awe and have so much admiration for him, that I could never properly describe what w wonderful man he is, how much I respect how his wife met and are still together, how he came to the US and made it to where he is today & more. Sooo humble of a spirit! My late grandfather came to the US from Cuba when quite young as well. He & my grandmother did not speak one another’s languages but were married within three months of meeting each other at a La a-par-hotel. They were marked for approximately 65. Both have passed away now. But he worked hard and made a name for himself around here.
Joseph, you come across as a very sincere man, a humble, grateful and authentic man. Someone i would feel privileged to know. We are also in the entertainment industry on the film finance side and as you know genuine people are rare. In addition, your advice for young people is invaluable and sadly your observation that they are largely unwilling to sacrifice is spot-on. The younger generation lacks the work ethic and the few who have it face the difficult task of finding suitable employees. We are about your age and have sacrificed immeasurably for our station in life. When we lost thirty years of wealth built up inch by inch in the “08 crisis my husband doubled-down and reinvented himself. After ten years of noses to the grindstone we’re seeing the fruits of our work. God is good. On another note - you’ve inspired me to eat more vegetables and to make my own hummus - which I always forget about but love. After this comment I’m googling a hummus recipe. Yum!
5:55 - this is so true story. My father visited the U.S. in the late 1980s, colleagues also bought dog food thinking it was normal food. The reality for visitors from post-Soviet countries was quite different. They were given checks for small expenses, the value of which exceeded their 3-year salaries.
It's always foreigners who have a great perspective on success when they come to the US. Myself, and a lot of other Americans, I was born and raised here and yet I'm unemployed and live with my mom. The only thing I have to show for my time as an adult is my car, my high school diploma (if that even means anything any more), and some college credits. I was born with nothing, but at least I was born HERE, that's more than a lot of people like Joseph here. As Americans we need to realize that we have a head start. And I know easier said than done, I myself am struggling with drive, motivation, and discipline. And dont get started on the current economy and job market, but still, people are still coming here for opportunity. There's still something here.

@mikosue8694 What an ignorant and disrespectful comment. If loving America, gratitude for the opportunity, and hard work don't mean "giving back," I'm not sure what does. Is it a handout that you want?
My father was quite wealthy in his time. He was like this gentleman. Drove a nice vehicle, had a nice home but no flashy clothes, jewelry, etc. You wouldn't notice him in a crowd. Just a regular guy. People like this really are out there. Great interview...
What a beautiful, humble human being.❤ This man deserves every bit of success and happiness that comes to him and his family. Hopefully he will open more doors for Peter to reach his absolute full potential. Thank you both for sharing this video with us all
Joseph seems so truly kind and humble. He made his way from something so small as a student visa and $400. My mother was an immigrant, as well as my grandparents, and they each worked so hard and made so many sacrifices to make a better path forward for their children and grandchildren. I will always appreciate the humble spirit and dedication that comes with such perspective. Joseph reminds me that good people are everywhere, even in multimillion dollar mansions - which can be easy to forget! I often assume the Uber wealthy can be “out of touch” and entitled, but he’s anything but! So beautiful to hear his perspective and reflections, and inspiring!
The median rent in California in 1970 when he came was $125. That’s median. Alongside the fact that jobs were more easily attainable and General COL was less.
You can tell all that from a single interview? You really need more critical thinking skills and stop being so easily impressed due to the halo effect of wealthy/influential/famous people.
If this man is truly this genuine and sincere after all his years in the superficial world he lives in, wow! I could listen to him all day. Enjoy his stories and authenticity. And his wife, seems just as beautiful.

Excellent interview Peter. You interviewed a wealthy man about being wealthy, all while treating him like an 'ordinary' human being, with courtesy and respect no different to how I think you might treat a homeless person. It takes a special talent to put people at ease like that, and draw them out. You didn't dwell on his possessions or wealth, but rather on the mindset and efforts that got him and his wife there, and what a story that turned out to be. They seem like a lovely couple. Unlike most of those Hollywood elites who hate Americans, especially middle America .
I think rich people being a-holes is more of a misconception of the poorer rather than a truth about the rich. Money don't shape who you are.
My experience if most "famous or rich" people just want to be treated like a normal person.
well said........thank you.

I have never commented on your videos before, but I loved this video.

@@codycoldbrewski572 F*ck you're so right. Salt of the earth my ass. He's a nice and friendly guy. But this is not modesty. His richness is grotesque. This guy is simply not stressed, that's all. He is relaxed, which is confused with humble. People in the US are so used to rich poeple being complete assholes, that when they meet one who is just friendly and not so pretentious, he's the salt of the earth all of a sudden. This guy is relaxed because he lives like a king. Salt of the earth mi culo... That is not what the expression means. When your bank account shows more than even half a million dollars, you lose the ability to be eligible for that term, just by definition.
This term is meant for the forgotten, the downtrodden, the poor, who would still pick up a homeless person from the street and feed them, at their own expense. THAT is the salt of the earth. Not a multimillionair who got rich by making 'Bikini beach I II and III.'
@@codycoldbrewski572 Spot on. Show someone a nice house and a car and they are sold. They completely lose the ability to think critically.
But he has not yet achieved the most important goal of all: Becoming a follower of Jesus who said: 'I Am The Way, The Truth and The Life...no one comes to the Father (Abba) except through me' (John 14:6)

Speechless. I didn't know that such a succesful star from Hollywood could be that humble and simple. It is so inspiring his story and how he started with no experience and no contacts. He just had a dream 🥹 What an admirable person!
I love this man. I’m only about 10 mins in and he “gets it”, you know? Happy for the life he’s created for himself and his family. The true American dream is creating your own freedom.
I enjoyed this interview with Joseph Merhi. He seems so kind, humble, and grateful. This is very inspiring. Great content as usual, Peter.
The best person to listen to. Thanks Joseph for taking us through your life.
I can easily say this is one of Peter’s best videos. Joseph is super inspiring down to earth personality.
Joseph is so inspiring, humble, down to earth in a world where show-off and loss of values prevail. Education is the base of everything. Thanks for making and sharing this episode!
Joseph did it with no formal education. Just saying
If there was any doubt this man was legit it was gone when he offered Peter the guest room in his own home. What a success story of a genuine person. Amazing video as always.. thanks for taking us along.
I acted in the 1987 Movie called "Heat Street" that Joseph Mehri and his business partner Richard Pepin produced. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Great content.
Wow
Jamie - aren't u special , I've been struggling before that year , can't get an agent , manager , sag card , pitch meeting for my scripts , stunts , camera , grip union . Every door closed without knowing a star for help opening doors ! Not allowed to talk on the phone , phone gets slammed ! Aren't u special ! 🎥🎥👍🍿
This guy is somehow magnetic. 40 minutes of the video that went like a breeze. Thanks for the content, Peter!
His appreciation for humor in times of stress is what makes him an absolute gem. The cat food story was incredible.
Totally respect for this man! He came from humble beginnings and worked his butt off. Love how he loves this country and knows firsthand that's through hard work dreams become a reality!
I just discovered your channel recently. This is my favourite by far. Joseph's story is so inspiring! He's a true testament to having a dream and working hard to achieve it. Thank you for introducting us to him!
Ugh! I watch a gazillion UA-cam videos and literally stumbled on this one while cleaning and had to stop. This video and this man have to be one of the best I’ve ever seen. I would be proud to have him as a father, a brother, a neighbor or even a friend or friend of a friend - what a beautiful human being. Thank you for sharing him with us. Made my day.
Kind, intelligent, wise, decent, aware, and informed. This man is a gem.
My son is with who I refer to as “my future daughter in law” who is from Syria - I was initially nervous only because of what I suspected she had lived through as a child. She is a gracious beautiful intelligent girl and I feel blessed to have met her. I told my son he better not mess it up - he will answer to me ❤ great interview!! Would love more of interviews with Joseph he comes across as a generous and humble soul 🎉
I absolutely loved watching this guy. Such a humble soul. I love all your videos but this one by far has been my favorite to watch!
Touché.
Now that was funny 😂😅
‘…if its tuna, why does it have a picture of a cat … (you thought you were eating cat) he was eating cat food …’ LMAO! poor Muhammad. Funny story. 😹🐟

WELL SEIING DETECTIVES GET PAYED 600K A YEAR NOW WE SEE WHERE ALL OUR TAXES GO T FOR BULLSHIT
Yeah but remember people come here from other places with degrees they got for free without student loans.
They have the head start.
@@nataliaalfonso2662 They dont come here with degrees...maybe some of them do but not most. Unless they're doctors that come here from India they most definitely do not have a head start.
What a tribute to America that this man has so much passion for our country. I can listen to him for hours. Peter this was spectacular in so many ways. Lots of good life lessons in this video. Thank you for all you do and thank you Joseph for being so gracious.
Honestly, most of the immigrants have so much passion for America. Hands down the American dream is so much alive. Definitely we have work to do as a country, and this is a story of every single nation. Constant and never ending improvement.
Yeah thats why you just gotta laugh at when you see Americans talking about how awful America is. They have no idea.
@@Jiggy609 that’s all I thought about the whole time. All the university and college kids talking about how oppressive America is 😂😂😂😂😂

I could listen to Mr. Joseph the whole day! Down to earth and humble wealthy man.
i agree, so many stories' and his delivery is nice
I love stories like this where someone who came from nothing, makes it. Very inspiring. I hope he read the comments If so, thank you for doing this ! I really thought this type of video would never happen because as Peter asked about, this world seems to be walled off from outsiders. Very inspiring. More wealthy people should consider doing things this like this to motivate others.
He talks about learning what's good for you, taking a day off and reflecting, talking, it's amazing advice.
You wonder why Joseph became successful? His infectious personality and gratitude towards life. He attracted amazing people into his life because of his respect for humanity.
His endless hard work didn’t play a role?
He has good energy. That is something money can't buy.

What a beautiful home and what a down to earth man! Just amazing! If there’s anyone more deserving of the “good life”, it’s this hard working man right here. Such a humbled soul.
I really enjoyed watching this… I’m so
happy that Joseph made it big in America!
And, I love how he spoke so highly of our great country and people. I wish more people felt that way these days! And I love his message… that anyone with the desire to work hard can do this as well! 😊❤️🇺🇸
What a sweetheart of a guy
Very Genteel.
He could be the friend of anyone💕🎄
I loved this video! Listening to Joseph speak was like listening to an old friend. What a lovely human being, for real. He should be teaching hard to reach kids and even some of the homeless you both were talking about. Joseph could give them so much hope that they can do anything if they want it bad enough and are willing to work hard. Thank you for such a great video and it was great meeting Joseph!!❤
Do you know Jesus is a messenger of God
I'm Kenyan and this is one of the best videos that you have made so far. Joseph is such an inspiration to every immigrant, myself included. Hopefully some Americans and others in Western countries will realize the privilege it is to have some of the freedoms and opportunities that they have.
I can tell in your comment you are ready for success!
For sure 🇰🇪
In America, often times the immigrants work much harder than those who are native to the US. That leads to financial success.
I agree with you Kabisa
Unlike Kenya and the rest of Africa.
As an immigrant who came on the same student visa 4 years ago with few dollars in hand struggling to build a better life and dreaming of a career in Entertainment Industry. This is a true inspirational video. A good advice from a successful person. Sir Joseph Toufik Merhi very proud of you! And Peter for bringing this to my eyes! Insha Allah
Yessss sir, and dont give up!! He did it, and you can too

Difference between Americans and immigrants is a lot of immigrants will take risks to be successful while a lot of Americans won't.
Take risks and kill it. Good luck
don't read too much into it.
America is VASTLY different than the era he came in.
The only down side he lost his religion along the way.
May Allah guide him
Seek Allah's pleasure and Allah will give you more than you realize. The power of dua
Excellent interview as always - really hope Joseph writes a book or two one day to share his full story - stories of down-to-earth people like him who epitomize the American dream really needs to be shared widespread, especially for the younger generation.
Very inspiring. I'm from his era and grew up in the West LA area. A lot of people came from no money but worked very hard to make it in a variety of busines types. It can still be done, as he said, hard work and determination. Well done Peter!
Another wonderful and informative interview! And that's from an old, retired psychiatrist who interviewed 25,000 suffering souls, all of whom I respected and loved. Peter seems to have a similar attitude and brings the best out in his interviewees. God bless you and your work!
What a humble, mild mannered and obviously just a good-natured guy. He deserves everything he has and I'm happy for him.
This is the type of rich that everyone respects . He’s got it all and doesn’t flaunt it or act cocky . Humble will always pay off
24:00 my dad was born in Egypt and he feels the same way, his family moved when he was really young and he just never looked back. He loves America now and is super grateful of the opportunity we have here, he invested in real estate to support our family and has an extremely strong work ethic.
Do you know Jesus is a messenger of God
Does he give back anything to the country that gave you this opportunity?
@mikosue8694 What an ignorant and disrespectful comment. If loving America, gratitude for the opportunity, and hard work don't mean "giving back," I'm not sure what does. Is it a handout that you want?
My family came from other countries, but ditto -- 100%.

What a good soul this man Joseph is! Loved this episode and definitely one of the most inspirational I've seen in a while.
What a kind and humble man Joseph seems to be. Great episode as always Peter
If this man is truly this genuine and sincere after all his years in the superficial world he lives in, wow! I could listen to him all day. Enjoy his stories and authenticity. And his wife, seems just as beautiful.
What a wonderful man Joseph is and his wife looks a very nice person.
Love his mentality about family togetherness. Very rich man, yet very down to earth.

I can relate to Joseph. You wouldn't completely understand how great this country is until you've seen or lived in other parts of the world.

I recognize and appreciate the effort you put into this interview. I look forward to seeing more!!!
