In the original legend there was a dragon in Kraków (Cracow), and ppl finally had enough. Shoemaker Dratewka came up with the idea of stuffing a sheepskin with sulfur, tar and nails. When the dragon ate it, thinking it was a sheep, he became thirsty. He flew to Wisła *Vistula) river and drank until he burst.
In Kraków, in a cave there is a statue of a dragon that breathes fire at certain times.
The guy blowing a thrumpet is playing "Hejnał Mariacki". There is a legend to this "hejnał" as well;
A legend says why the melody of the bugle call suddenly stops, as if it had not been played until the end:
St. Mary's Church, with two towers, was an important place for Krakow. Centuries ago, from the higher, called bugle tower (which is also the highest tower in the city), the city guard sounded a trumpet to open the city gates in the morning and close them in the evening, but not only that. He sounded the alarm when he noticed fire or an approaching enemy. One day, when the Tatars, who very often attacked southern Poland, reached Krakow, a guard started playing the bugle call. The city gates were closed in time, but a Tatar arrow pierced the throat of the Polish bugler before he finished the melody. To commemorate this event, the melody always stops.
