    Hello from Chesterton, Indiana!

I've so got to mention the few years I spent building those dune protection stair ways here in Australia (in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast) We would carry all the building materials, tools & equipment up dunes in the blistering sun to build them. Though a totally different part of the world, you have brought back so many wonderful memories of the infrastructure that myself & my crew build back in the 80's (with much of it is still being there today) My wife & I are so "over due" from getting back out there & visiting the so many unique places even though our bodies aren't really built for walks these days either, almost every time we have done so, it's so been worth the effort. Just your smiles alone make the video so worth it. Thank you for sharing your part of our wonderful world!!

Love this vlog! Have been going to the Indiana Dunes State Park for 60? yrs because had lots of family in Porter and Chesterton. Still have cousins and my 94 yr old Aunt in Chesterton. Have never camped there though so excited to be coming up from AR to vancamp in 1 1/2 weeks. And yes...Chesterton is indeed a Hallmark town. Got to live there for a year and a half while my Dad served in Vietnam and Mom wanted us near family.❤

Hi guys, great video, you have me thinking about exploring that area too! If you get to the upper Midwest again you should think about going up the western shore of Lake Michigan to Door County Wisconsin. We live in FL too (Jax) but we spend our summers in Door County. We would be happy to host your visit here.

    Did the trails.
    Nice area!
Camping in the NP is a very different feel than the State Park camping area. No ammenities in the NP.
NP passes are not accepted in the State Park! Extra charge for out-of-staters in the State Park.

There used to be a way to get to the beach without having to hike over the dunes. I grew up just north of Indianapolis, we went to Indiana dunes one time in the 1960's and drove to a parking area where the beach and lake were visible. Not sure where that was, within the park, or if it still exists.

Back in the 1970s, I think, I visited the Dunes with my family. There were hundreds of dead fish washing up on the shore. Thanks to environmental laws, the lake has been cleaned up considerably. We are all better for that. In case anyone wonders, I'm no relation to the Burns that Burns Harbor was named for.

Ps is your Ram a 1500? Just curious, we are new to this, got a 1500 hemi 4.7 to pull our Grand Design, does great. But you two have a lot of road miles, so I wondered what yours is, and how it does for these long hauls? We have a "tow" button on dash, but I don't get if it's for mountain driving or what, never use it. Should we? Also not up to speed on the 4 wheel drive, we just use regular 2 wheel drive for now. But we only go like 15 miles to the Dunes so far.

    • @Woodbutcher681

It looks like his RAM has a Cummins plate so it would be a 2500. My 2019 RAM has a 5.7 liter, and it pulls my 30 foot Passport Grand Touring with little effort. As far as the Tow/Haul button, when you activate it, it changes the transmission shift points and gets more power out of the engine. There are You Tube videos on how and when to use it.

I know it's hard, but you should have gone down to the water, you were so close. My wife & I went to China in 2007 and had the opportunity to visit a section of the Great Wall. I climbed to the highest point at the section we were at, and my wife didn't because it was "too hard". She, to this day, regrets no doing it (BTW, she's a lot more physically fit than I). Long story short...seize the opportunity, no matter how hard it seems!

Wish there was more campground information. Was hoping it would be more informative. Show the parks, showers, camp store, drive through the camp etc. instead of filming just your area. Instead this felt like a video made for your family to watch you hiking and puffing, your personal camper photos of yourselves and what you did for the day.
You are easy to listen to though, not annoying 😊 and your filming is good. I appreciated a look at the visitor center and knowing they have stamps and the houses.
