- I took a couple of days to visit Indiana Dunes National Park! I had been wanting to visit for a long time because the park is so close to Cleveland, but every time I browsed the recreation.gov site to look for a campsite it was fully booked. Planning ahead finally made this trip possible, and I had an amazing time!
It was my first time visiting this area and also my first time camping at a rented, drive-in camp site. I hiked through a LOT of sand, saw an incredible sunset (and was gifted a geode!?), stayed warm with a campfire, slept in my car (for the first time!), and completed the three dune challenge in Indiana Dunes State Park.
Absolutely gorgeous footage, shots and editing are really great here!
Thank you!
I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded there. Always fun to see your posts. Glad you had a good time.
I think some people were maybe hesitant with the cooler weather. Thanks!
Really enjoyed this video, as my favorite nature/travel writer, the late Edwin Way Teale, grew up in and frequently wrote about this area!
Thank you! It was a beautiful area to visit
Nice rock 👍🏽 nice video 😍
Thank you!!
Hi. I'm taking a trip to Indiana Dunes this summer. My brother planned the trip & I'm not familiar with it, so it was nice to check it out in your video. I'll check out the rest of your channel. In addition to nature, I enjoy running, so I'm interested in seeing any fun races that you've been to.
I hope you have fun at the Dunes! I've only run the Pittsburgh Half recently, but I hope to do more in the future 🏃🏼♀️
Friday night, 200 channels on DISH, all crap. But hey! Mikhaila has a new video. Interesting and well done, as usual. Thanks for showing me a place I will never otherwise see.
Thank you for watching!
Love watching your adventures!
Thank you!!
Great video, Mikhaila!!
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks 😊
I live in Chesterton, work at one of the steel mills along the lakeshore (you can see it from Mt. Tom), and visit the dunes several times a week year round (the state park specifically). This place is incredible, and there are extremely nice people here for sure. I'm glad you had a good time and hope you come back! :)
That's so cool! Having lived in Cleveland and Pittsburgh, I have appreciation for the steel mills. I met a lot of lovely people while hiking at the dunes!
Do you like Kemil beach? It's my favorite. We used to stay at spring house inn think Chesterton and lovely spot eat outside pompanos think different name now. Now I go little north mi beaches
Pompalano's
Aeropress for the win!
Always!!
Fun!
Soo real & amazing vlog ! Thx 🥰🫱🏻🫲🏼stay safe & keep unloading videos:)
Thank you 🥹 such a nice message. Will do!!
Being from Indy, I love to go there for a weekend. One beach day, one hiking day. But I’ve never had the chance to hike it because it’s always raining on the second day when I go 😂
I’d say you have to hike on the first day next time, but then the beach may not be great in the rain either…!
Holy moly, you're in Portage! That's where I live. Cool!😃
I had a great time there!
As a local to this area, you showed a few of the great parts. Some of the best trails and birding areas are also nearby. These are kinda known by the locals but accessible to everyone. This park is kinda bland compared to the greats. Hope you had fun and come back again.
I had a great time there! It was a short trip, but it’s not too far from Cleveland, so I’m sure I’ll be back
I live only a half a mile from the dunes national lakeshore. We hike there all the time, go swimming, picnic, and enjoy every view. If you like the area, check out Bailley Homestead/ Chellburg Farm trails and old houses and a cemetery from the 1800s. So much to learn about this area. I love my home!
Well shit, I just saw you went to bailley Homestead Chellburg Farm hahaha I got excited and wrote too fast
Haha I did, but it was towards the end of the day, so didn't have as much time as I would have liked to explore that area. Hoping to go back sometime!
Just ran across this video and loved it. Just an fyi there is a state park AND national park right next to each other…so in a way connected. It can be confusing. You can walk from place to place but didn’t know you could camp at National park. Both beautiful.
Ha, you figured it out. I commented before watching full vid. Always beautiful sunsets here unless cloudy ⛅;) glad you enjoyed a bit of heaven in “da region” NWI.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) And yes, I did figure it out eventually, but was confusing at first. The parks were beautiful!
Mikhaila! You missed it! The last trail you did was trail #4 @ the Dunes State Park, but you missed the crown jewel of the State Park hiking trails. Trail #9. Its been rated one of the best hikes in the country. Look it up and see for yourself. Also if you make it back to the State Park be sure to stop at the Pavilion Restaurant right on the beach, great place to grab a bite and a drink if your so inclined.
Oh wow!! Just a few more reasons for me to go back. Thanks for the tip!
Seek is a great app for identifying plants and animals. It is free. I heard a chickadee calling and I am sure you saw a Brown Creeper! Indiana Dunes looks like a pretty place to visit!
Thanks for watching! I will have to get that app...
Im from Cincinnati area but went to a campground near Cleveland can't remember name but visited nearby largest Mary shrine near there if youre ever interested look up was amazing
Very cool!
So did you end up trading for a better camp site or was your original choice better ?
She did end up taking the one I had booked originally where she had set her tent up. I liked the location of the one I ended up in better, but did have some noisy neighbors... so not sure which ended up being the better site 😅
Hey, was her space actually nicer? And do you remember what the number was 😁?
Ooh… we had 12 and 21 and she had whichever of those was on the outer side of the loop. I think she had Mather 21. It was nicer but also ended up being by a noisy group so 🤷🏼♀️
What was that Cafe called that you went to was it any good ?
Dune Billes! Nothing out of this world, but I liked it
