Carp Fishing with Marshmallows (Carp Bait Experiment)

- Fishing for carp with marshmallows for bait. This trip I used marshmallows on the hair rig for a pop up style presentation, and I also used a large marshmallow floating on the surface. I may have to revisit this idea again, with a few modifications. Gear list below.

Bait experiment videos are pretty entertaining, I would like to see more. Probably will have to wait until spring though,
There will be more experiments for sure, but yes, not until spring.
Appreciate your inqusitive nature and willingness to experiment. It doesn't always turn out, but that's how you learn what works and what doesn't! Rock on!
I should probably try that again sometime, thanks Joe.
Great vid/vlog love it...marshmallows 👍👍
Thanks, Dave. Have a good one!
LOL!!! Love the mosquito sound effects!!! 🤣🤣
😁
Love the video!
👍
Carp love marshmallow. I've been catching them on it for over 40 years.
👍
Thanks for answering the marshmallow question for me.
👍
haha great video. going to watch a few others. New subscriber!
Glad you enjoyed the video, welcome aboard!
In August I chummed about a week with a mix of dog kibble and mini-marshmallows. I then chummed one day with just marshmallows and caught a couple carp during the feeding frenzy.
Doesnt hurt to try new stuff, must be a nice carp pond hit one that quick with the corn. Do ya see any above normal size in there?
Biggest one out of that pond so far is about 8lbs.
You know Tom I think we're all crazy in our own way but I think it's a good idea of fishing with marshmallows
Lol, that's the truth.
I usually put corn with my marshmallows. It works pretty well for me
Good idea, maybe I'll give that a try sometime. Thanks.
Seen them caught on marshmallows in the uk 😊
We also use luncheon meat/spam
👍
I also like to catch carp. but in cold weather on large lakes it is not caught. what do you think is the best way to catch worms or corn? Thanks .
Corn 100%
At least you had marshmallows to eat afterwards.
Haha, thanks for tuning in!
My kids sometimes get a bag of the mini marshmallows for hot chocolate. When I was kid we used them for the farm stocked trout. I do know they float and now I am wondering what if I wrapped my homemade boilie dough around these smaller marshmallows would they float, like you did with the cork. OR I could pair them with a boilie to get a slight lift off the bottom. OR I wonder if the marshmallow cream you see in the jar to make fudge could be added to my mix to make them float. OFF TO THE LAB! Just got an idea for a video (if it works). I was able to buy a bag of ground up cork, probably still the best option
Good luck with your experiments!
Was wondering often should u leave in water before rebaiting how many hours do u
Usually every 45 min to an hour.
I would go out and catch some of those grasshoppers first and try them out.
great video.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
This is gonna be a stupid question but I've been carp fishing for and have never really caught that many carp even though the place I'm fishing is loaded with them and they aren't pressured but I've been using #6 hooks with corn and dough bait and 8 to 10 pound mono but I can't seem to catch any fish the only carp I've ever caught was over 50 pounds on a storm smash shad while trolling believe it or not it actually ate the lure but I'm just looking for some tips to help catch fish cause these are the only fish I have trouble catching also I love your videos.
Thanks, glad you like my videos. If you've been bottom fishing, maybe try putting your bait under a bobber instead. Maybe the bottom has weeds and the fish aren't able to find your bait. Maybe try different times of day. If you've been fishing deep water, try shallow. If you've been fishing in the middle, try the edges. Just keep trying different things, you'll figure them out eventually. Good luck!
Wondering u look like a pro how often do u re bait your method weight
Usually every 45 min to an hour.
Nice t shirts in Jan. Lol I know its older video nothing wrong with trying new things. Use the small marshmallow but soak in vanilla and strawberry koolaid its pretty much what they sell in the store
Haha, yeah this one was filmed back in August.
I have used small marshmallows successfully in SA waters for carps.
If chum is legal in you're state. Use koolaid and corn boil it for a bit chump regularly but do it when people are not around dont tell you keep them carp right there
Thanks Karl.
well i brought marshmallows to fish with for carp but when i got there they were all gone
😂
Too bad you lost that one. At least the mashmallow made a good snack. I might have to try get a grasscarp off the surface with these. 👍
I'll have to try it again sometime, thanks.
Do you ever use bait runners?
Yep, I have a pair of Daiwa Regal 4000 BRI reels. Like them a lot.
In the beginning thought I was going to have to buy a bag of marshmellows, guess not. Enjoy the show. what is your common hook size.

@@OutsidewithTom Thanks
Lol id be eating them too. I was smashing some trail mix the other day
I actually spit it out, not a big marshmallow fan.
@@OutsidewithTom i like them when it comes to smores. Maybe that because the chocolate idk. Great comentary and video as always thumbs up
I like smores too, just not plain marshmallow I guess. Thanks for watching.
If I scream my wife will wake up and turn all ninja on me ! I really wanna try it... But I may get a black eye ... I'm on the edge of given her a war hoop 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'ma get smacked 😂😂😂😂 Great video man !
Hahahaha, don't risk any black eyes, thanks Joe.
@@OutsidewithTom always man !
Seems like you have to be really patient not set the hook too soon For carp what if you try the corn and a marshmallow combo
Yeah, it's good to let them run with it a bit. Good idea with the corn marshmallow combo, I might just try that sometime.
Have a great weekend buddy
@@JohnAmes Thanks, you too.
Tom. Did you ever try Pop ups?
Yep. Check out this video ua-cam.com/video/rEYShCTnQCk/v-deo.html
Nice video TOM, been watching for a while from the UK, a tip for you cut the marsh mallow in half it lets out more of the sweet smell and sugars, shorten the rig between the wait and marshmallow so it sits just above your bait on a hair rig is best I have found, keep posting all the best
Thanks Chris, much appreciated!
Carp groundbait mix feeder make
Thanks for watching!
Looks like carp don’t have a sweet tooth. 😂
They didn't on that day, I'll try it again though.
man I was hoping to see you wack one with the marshmallow
Me too, maybe next season!
You should really try some carp attractant from hawgsaucefishingflavors.com/shop in your pack bait. best stuff there is in my opinion. Caught many 20lbers on it.
Thanks for the tip! 👍
It's a known Carp bait. They will melt away and off the hook in about 15 minutes depending on the temperature of the water.
This is why people only use then for surface fishing and float / Bobber fishing.
Also small fish if they are present will rip the bait to pieces with out taking the hook.
In short.. There is a reason why they are only used as floating surface baits.
It wasn't known to me.
I have a lot of good luck with Carp in the dark
I'd probably fish at night more if the bugs weren't so bad.
True
Wow . great video. Love your video. Let's be friend and always full supported. Thanks 👉👍🎁👍
Glad you loved the video, thanks.
I love how you make the bait I enjoy what the video so amazing I love it I sub big like let’s be friend see you soon
Thanks for watching.
Smaller marshmallows mounted using a hair rig, popped up on a stiff hinge rig would be my suggestion.
Thanks, I appreciate the tip. I've been meaning to try this again soon.
@@OutsidewithTom the stiff hinge rig is my go to rig on alot of UK waters I fish. Or chod rigs over weed alot of the time. We catch on popup boilies all the time, I have considered marshmallows but yet to test, I may join you and give it a go soon. Good luck. Out of interest, are the rigs I mentioned used in US at all?
I had never heard of the stiff hinge rig, I had to look it up. Same with the chod rig. The chod rig actually looks a lot like a rig that bass fishermen use in the US, they call it a "Drop Shot" rig. I doubt that very many people in the US use those rigs. Very interesting, I may give those a try sometime. Good luck to you as well!
@@OutsidewithTom Just about to sit down and watch your new vid, just noticed it up. If you're interested in carp and have time, maybe check out an insight in UK carp fishing. UA-cam search 'Korda underwater' . One of the biggest carp companies in UK, booked the best pond in UK, setup underwater cameras and fished it for about a week. It shows what happens with your rigs when they feed and how to improve them. Plus they're after upto 50lb mirror and common carp.
Thanks, I'll check out the Korda underwater video. Sorry for the late reply, I just saw your comment. For some reason I don't get youtube notifications for followup replies, only the first comment. In the future, feel free to start a new comment thread, that way I'll be notified and can respond in a timely manner. Thanks.
Awe man, it's too bad the marshmallow bait didnt work. Seemed like a good idea, it floating just above the bottom and above the method bait. Seems like itd be a good bait to for staying on the hook. Oh well. 5 minutes with corn and fish on! Sorry you lost him buddy
I should have had both corn and marshmallow rigs out at the same time, see which one they went for. It's possible the fish weren't feeding at all until dusk, which is when I switched to corn. I'll have to try it again sometime.
Yeah could be that the bite just wasn't on until dusk. I'm going to try some serious carp fishing this year. I may give it a go with the marshmallows too. It's always fun experimenting
I wonder if the mini marshmallows would work better. I am also wondering if they could be somehow added to a boilie to make them float. We used to catch trout on small marshmallows
Only one way to find out!
@@OutsidewithTom I am on it this spring!!!!!!!!!!!
Try little blocks of cheese or pieces of hotdog
I've been meaning to try using cheese sometime, thanks for reminding me. 👍
I wonder is peeps would work lol
I think throwing those nasty things into the water would be considered littering. 😁
Yea wit three kids all the bait would be gone
Carp are weird, I had two rods baited for 2 separate species and caught a carp on powerbait and a trout on bread😂😂😂, catfish are just as greedy as carp and often times ive had to drop distraction rigs just to keep them away from the feed corn
Haha, it pretty amazing sometimes which fish will eat which bait! I catch quite a few catfish on the carp rigs too.
@@OutsidewithTom get you some pillsbury canned biscuit dough and use that as a base/binder to keep your feed corn, oats and flavoring together, maybe add some food coloring for visibility. knead it well add a little flour for thickness. May even try to ferment the dough balls in a yeast, sugar corn mash for scent as an experiment.
@@Lemurai Interesting idea, thanks!
@@OutsidewithTom chemistry my man! Also basic biology dictates all organisms are attached to certain things like hormones, even some drugs just set off receptors that make animals crazy. To this day Idk for the life of me what it was but my old biochem prof was using to land huge cats back to back, whatever it was in that vial it was some kind of love potion because the cats were killing it. I assume it was some kind of artificial hormone he was able to get but I’m not into sketch items or sacrificing my freedom just to hook up.😂
Haha, my guess is he was using fish oil.😀
zig rig tom,, check it out
That's something I've been wanting to try. Thanks Colin!
