This was a great video, to help people get started carp fishing. When I was a kid I'd fish for what ever I could catch and occasionally that would be a carp. As an adult I target fish for specific species and each has its own skill set and practices. As I watch this video I just had a small carp fishing session in a small creek behind my job, this year was the first time I saw carp in the creek and I made it a mission to target fish them. One point this video brings up and most people who only fish fresh water over look often is chumming the water. In the UK they call it spoding and theyve invented several methods and specialized pieces of equipment to basically drop chum into the water. Best advice I can give and it is what landed me two 30+ lbs carp today is, observe the water look for the fish chum and chum again I take hand fulls of corn and toss them into the water until I see the carp move to a area I want them, then I toss more corn to keep them actively eating and in that area this also makes them used to disturbances in the water so when you toss your hook and line in they assume it's just more corn falling into the water and don't spook. After I set my line in the water I continue to throw more corn into the water around my line, and when I'm done I throw any left over bait I don't need into the water. This practice keeps the fish coming back and used to being feed, it also prevents them from leaving the area after fishing pressure is added. And the last thing to add is be a good fisherman, take care of your catches ensure you don't cause excess stress or harm to the fish, take a moment to admire your cagtch but then get that fish back into the water and give it a moment to recoup before you release it. Carp are tough fish but they are big and can get hurt during a fight or landing so take care of the cagtch so these fish can continue growing big an beautiful for the next fisherman
Whole corn works like a charm on carp and catfish - my buddies and I used to use this long ago and would catch tons of fish with this technique. Only thing is that your throw a whole can of corn out at near sunset and come back at the next sunrise and start reeling them in using a single piece of corn on the bottom on a number 6 or 8 hook with 12lb test line - I liked the number 8 hook the best - yeah! really does work well
Caught my first two today. Used homemade boilies per Luke's recipe on a hair rig. Learned a lot from the three that got away. Most exciting fishing of my life.
The biggest aspect of carp fishing is swim location . Bait is rather less important to finding fish on the feed. The trick to catching more bigger carp is simply feed them more than you fish for them. Show up the same spot 4 times a week and give them a few cans of corn . They will clear the swim of debri and begin to return here more often. Build your swim first then enjoy trying to keep others away from it .
Absolutely. Prebaiting the spot is a fantastic way to keep fish in the area. Especially in lakes and ponds. I’ve recommended the technique in several videos. Tossing out feed the morning of your trip can also help a little if you didn’t have the ability earlier

I watched Fishing with Carl’s trip to US and was jealous of those big ones. We have such massive lakes here that you’d need to bait up for a week to attract them 😂
How do you keep your Hook from getting tangled up with your weight and your spring filled with that bread corn and Jell-O mix because that keeps happening to me it being a tangled mess after I cast?
Smallest hook in my arsenal in 4/0 octopus circle hooks. Is this too big? Recently started fishing and I have plenty of these and bigger for cat fishing. Would like to use what I have before buying more. Even if they’re cheap.
I would say they are too big, unless you have large carp in your area. I prefer j-hooks as well because of the difference in lips from catfish, but I’ve seen people use circle hooks. My typical hook size is size 4 or 6. Carp can be finicky so the smaller hook allows it to get in the small mouths undetected
I’ve never caught a common carp. I’ve only ever seen one or two of them. I see grass carp way more often. There is a huge one I’ll occasionally see at my fishing spot. I tried pack bait but it never worked for anything except pond catfish.
@@BitesandStrikesFishing Oh, I’ve caught one before, it was actually pretty easy. I fished out of a tiny neighborhood pond that had 4 of them. @@BitesandStrikesFishing we'll use them for compost and every now and then we'll use them for bait. The department of fish and wildlife in the state I live in does not want us eating them since they are contaminated with mercury. They recommend we give it to the wildlife like coyotes and birds. None of it goes to waste.
Unless you plan on eating the carp you catch, to me, catching carp is similar to playing golf. In the game of golf, you hit the ball and then go to where it landed after you've hit it and then hit it again. With carp, you catch them and then you release them. You catch another one and then you release it. You hope you catch some more so you can release them too. I guess I'm old school. When we go fishing, we do it with the intent of eating what we catch.
@@BitesandStrikesFishing I seen a cartoon that someone posted on one of my social media accounts. It showed a fisherman in a boat that had just caught a bass. The bass is talking to the fisherman telling him, You catch me over and over again and they you release me. Get a life. You had see it to really get the humor in it. I don't catch that many fish because my opportunities to go fishing aren't as plentiful as they once were.
How would I use this in a fast moving current? I see tons of carp in the water but can never catch them. Do u have any tips for what I should be using? I only have the rig where it’s a Carolina rig with a hook, sinker, and corn.
Fast current makes it hard. With moving water the carp will be moving as well. Look for slack water or eddies. Toss close to the bank where the current will be lighter. If that doesn’t help you’ll need to wait till the water slows down… or find a new spot.
You’ll catch some catfish while carp fishing, they love corn and are scavengers. They eat almost anything. If the line gets pulled a few times in a row without a big take its probably a catfish. But I have landed some 10-15lb blue catfish with the dough bait before. So that makes it fun

Great video, but when i heard him say that carp have delicate lips i had an asthma attack. Either the common carp in the US will get bitched by the common carp in Russia, or this guy is full of shit because while cleaning a carp i caught (yes we eat them) i spent a good 3 minutes trying with my full force to cut through the lip with my sharp as shit knife.
There’s a clip in the video where I point out a hole in the lips where the hook tore the flesh. I wouldn’t be surprised if the carp in your area are a different species or even have different diets. I’ve caught carps in lakes where they feed of muscles and clams and those carp have thicker callus lips from digging through hard shells.
@@BitesandStrikesFishing True. Also American way is MUCH cheaper. In Europe we spend so much money on various mixes, etc, etc. This is because a lot of people fish for carp and you HAVE to go through all these steps to attract them. In US, very little people fish for them so they are very abundant.

Its growing so popular in the UK in the last 30 years it's just gone mental for carp fishing 🎣 I'm so envious of all the carp in the USA 🇺🇸 so much potential to grow the hobby. Keep on spreading the carp word its only going to get bigger over time I'm sure of it
@@sidmac9071 hope you land a 100lbs!!
Carp fishing is taking off a bit here. They are so plentiful. We can usually easily catch them in our nets when tossing for bait fish. I think that’s one of our biggest issues. Not many people want to spend hours or money targeting a fish that they can catch in a net. But man, they fight so hard and get huge.
I watched Fishing with Carl’s trip to US and was jealous of those big ones. We have such massive lakes here that you’d need to bait up for a week to attract them 😂
Carp is grate fish to catch and eat. Carp is very popular fish in Europe. fun to catch.
great video what size hair rig hook you use ? the link didn't work for me thanks
Thanks, I use small #4 size hooks
@@BitesandStrikesFishing thanks for the reply I will give it a try

Hey man can you tell me where you got your whataburger umbrella ☔?
It was a special collaboration between Academy and Whatsburger. It was a limited time deal
In my state chumming is illegal. Do you need to chum to catch carp?
No, it just helps bring them to the area
@@BitesandStrikesFishing ah, okay. Does using oily/smelly bait like something for catfish help attract them?
@Hamman5 it might, but you’ll probably end up attracting more catfish
Thank you man hopefully I get one out there. Any tips for catching carp with alot of weeds at the top of the water
Aim past the weeds or look up a zig rig. I typically stay away from the edges and fish the edges
@@BitesandStrikesFishing wordddd man thank you so much
@@Con6lackfishingguy No problem. Good luck!
How do you keep your Hook from getting tangled up with your weight and your spring filled with that bread corn and Jell-O mix because that keeps happening to me it being a tangled mess after I cast?
Just getting into targeting carp been watching a lot of UK guys.
It’s very popular in Europe. They do things a little differently than we do. But we have similar methods.
Great video but i set the hook hard but i use an altralight rod with 10lb test and for extra fun.
In my experience setting the hook hard has the potential of tearing the hook through their lips, but maybe on an ultra light you can get away with it.
Original oats white bread water and vanilla extract with a little Italian breed crumb is my dough bait recipe works almost every time
Been Carp fishing in the UK for 35+ years , Moving to Illinois in May and hopefully looking for some advice on locations for carp ..
They pretty much everywhere. Some states try to eradicate them since they are invasive so you will need to check with the local state regulations.
Great vid! Thanks for sharing links to products. Happy to see a catch and release carp vid. Sad that so many fishermen kill the carp they catch
Thanks for the support! I have a whole playlist of carp videos
I’ve never caught a common carp. I’ve only ever seen one or two of them. I see grass carp way more often. There is a huge one I’ll occasionally see at my fishing spot. I tried pack bait but it never worked for anything except pond catfish.
Try some white bread balled up on a j hook. Grass carps love bread.
@@BitesandStrikesFishing Oh, I’ve caught one before, it was actually pretty easy. I fished out of a tiny neighborhood pond that had 4 of them. I tried to pick it up out of the water with my hands like a dummy and it broke me off. I found it a month later, dead, with the hook stuck in its mouth. Under 3 feet, but super fat, so probably 20-25lbs.
Caught a ~20lb carp today from a railroad bridge. I could see 3 huge ones swimming together and I literally lowered my line with a nightcrawler in front of their noses and the first two didn't bite (swam right past it) but the third one gulped it right up and I instantly hooked it.
I caught my very first carp on a night crawlers
@@BitesandStrikesFishing This was my first one too. Was not a fish in sight--just a bunch of turtles--and these 3 came strolling in. Just magnificent creatures. So big and move slowly most of the time.
@nicholash8021 they move slow till you set the hook!
What size jello is that does it matter?
Doesn’t really matter. I’ll use a big box for big batches of bait, or a small one for small batches.
@@BitesandStrikesFishing ok thanks so much
Enjoyed that 😃 I'm in the UK. Carp Fishing is huge here! I must try pack bait fishing again!
You should! It works well for our wild carps here
Great video , I never had a good luck with carp , its always cat fish , they are way faster to catch the bait that carp , not sure if They scare carp off 😁
They do. Catfish prey on carp.
Great video! I started fishing for Carp last summer- I haven’t hardly fished for any other species since. I’ve been fortunate enough to catch so many 30 pounders! Amazing! Wooooo!❤️🙏😎👍
Awesome! Sounds like you found a great spot if it’s holding a lot of 30Lb carp. They put up some amazing fights.
Also I want to ask how are you weighing those fish what is the aperatus lol the bag like that looks so cool I need that set up! Thank you!
The bag is called a weigh sling. Check out big carp tackle.com
I bow fish for carp. Its so much fun.
Hopefully you use them for bait or food
@@BitesandStrikesFishing we'll use them for compost and every now and then we'll use them for bait.
The department of fish and wildlife in the state I live in does not want us eating them since they are contaminated with mercury. They recommend we give it to the wildlife like coyotes and birds. None of it goes to waste.
@@voskamp7022 I’ve never heard of using them as compost. That’s a pretty good idea
I love to target carp with ultra light gear. That is the most fun I have while fishing.

Something better than bread is a can of premade biscuit dough
I’ll have to give that a try. It makes sense. First time I’ve heard of that one.
cool beans, this is absolutely awesome. I learn much much from you, thank you for your service. Im going to eat the fish so good. bruh
Hope you enjoy
Nice looking park lake, reminds me of parks in California where I live.
I’ll have to make it to California one day to fish. Any big carp out there?
what do you with a carp you catch?
I normally release them back unless it’s gar season, then I’ll keep smaller ones for bait
New sub from fishbrain . We fish here in PA. Just caught a nice snow piggie. Such a great underrated fish. I use the same mix.
They are so underrated! They get a bad rap for being invasive. The same bait catches small mouth buffalo which also fight really hard
I know a lot of people do, but if I ate every fish I caught it would eliminate the fish population here 😂😂
@@BitesandStrikesFishing I seen a cartoon that someone posted on one of my social media accounts.
It showed a fisherman in a boat that had just caught a bass. The bass is talking to the fisherman telling him,
You catch me over and over again and they you release me. Get a life.
You had see it to really get the humor in it. I don't catch that many fish because my opportunities to go fishing aren't as plentiful as they once were.
Sorry to hear you don’t get to go as much anymore. Hopefully the times you get to go are more enjoyable since they are more spread out now
Pls check if you are allowed to chum in your local waters before you do it.
Dog food chum floats then use a small piece of sponge similar color as the dog food
Where I live the dog food attracts way too many channel catfish, but I’ve seen a lot of Europeans use it
Great help! Thanks for the tips!
No problem, good luck out there
Hawaiin rolls good for fish, and good for a snack
Great video, explained everything very well in a humble matter, subscribed.

Wow 😮❤❤❤❤
Way to send a shout to Cats and Carp
He’s the GOAT of American carp fishing 🙌
Are you using barbed hooks in the uk they are banned. So less damage .?
I generally use single barb hooks
How would I use this in a fast moving current? I see tons of carp in the water but can never catch them. Do u have any tips for what I should be using? I only have the rig where it’s a Carolina rig with a hook, sinker, and corn.
Fast current makes it hard. With moving water the carp will be moving as well. Look for slack water or eddies. Toss close to the bank where the current will be lighter. If that doesn’t help you’ll need to wait till the water slows down… or find a new spot.
I just caught a 10lb carp on just corn and a #4 hook
Watching this makes me want to move to the countryside
What is the difference between dough bait and pack bait?
But how can you tell if it’s a carp or catfish biting?
You’ll catch some catfish while carp fishing, they love corn and are scavengers. They eat almost anything. If the line gets pulled a few times in a row without a big take its probably a catfish.
But I have landed some 10-15lb blue catfish with the dough bait before. So that makes it fun
nice job carp boy
Please i been looking for a place to catch carp from months in houston,tx and nothing can you share the adres pleas brother 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Another great bait is trout pellets I'm sure you can get it over there
Man I'm hooked on carp fishing! Ive caught about 10 15lbs-40lbs carp my first 2 times. Definitely need a net now. I used old fashioned oat meal and suger with a worm on the hook.
I caught my very first carp with a nightcrawler.
Thank you
Where it that lake Please
they grop up to 100+ Pounds not to mention the thai ones 220+
I’ve heard that they do!
Think the US record is around 70lb
I keep it super simple I mean simple just corn that’s it and still catch ‘em
Corn works, so does white bread
Nice 👍

Long live carp.. growing up a creek by my house had plenty.. they're fun to catch not a difficult fish to catch corn was as good as anything..i never tried to eat them..i was told if you can remove the mud vein whatever that is it makes a big difference..we used to have a homemade doughball recipe of cornflakes and spinach they seemed to like just fine...i read somewhere they are considered one of the more intelligent fish out there..carp rule
Not a big ball just a small ball but you put a huge ass ball
With the spiral rig I use I can cast 100yrds 😬
Why US people think grass carp is invasive fish and try to destroy it?
Because they are not native to the US.
And there is a highly invasive silver carp in the north US, and people just assume all carp are the same
You need to get a landing mat
They don't fish for carp because they are nasty!I've always called them river rats. They stink so dam bad that to me they are not even worth fishing for.
I’ve never heard of someone not targeting a fish because of their smell 😂 that’s a new one
Caught a 25 pound carp on chicken breast on Saturday
Carp on chicken? That is the first time of heard of that. I use chicken to catch catfish sometimes
@@BitesandStrikesFishing that's what I was out trying to catch
Your carp was desperate or drunk 😂
Novo subscrito no seu canal
Where is unhooking mat? UK carp police is watching😂
Still haven’t bought a landing mat, but I have had several European and UK followers recommended I get one. I’ve heard that in some places in the UK your not allowed to take the fish out of the water
Barbless hooks and landing mat is a must for most UK sites
IF YOU HAVE A POND WITH DUCKS DO NOT USE BREAD THAT FLOATS WITH YOUR HOOKS 😂
Absolutely 😂
I would hope people don’t want to catch ducks
@@BitesandStrikesFishing well my son sure did a swell job of it with a piece of bread. Didn't make his ball correctly and it floated and the duck took it. I had to sit on the pond shore and hold down this thing with its tongue hanging out and full this hook out it's throat. You ever seen a duck tongue? Shits weird. I hate ducks when fishing lol
Don't use it around seagulls either
@@johnlynch7834 I would imagine seagulls are worse 😂
Adres please
Wow, its crazy how much errors Americans do in their carp setup and fishing.
We do it very differently for sure. I wouldn’t call it an error if it’s working though.
@@dmitriykoltunov4261 not many Americans target carp here. They are considered invasive and sadly some states have a kill order for them to reduce the population.
How do you cook them there to get the taste of mud out of them
I don’t personally eat them because of the amount of bones, but I will soak catfish in milk or beer overnight to remove the muddy flavor
