    Men, lemme tell you a secret: a woman laughing at your edgy jokes doesn’t always mean she thinks you’re funny. We have to learn to react that way for our own safety because a lot of times edgy joke tellers are violent. Don’t be shocked if you later finds out she hates your guts! Truly why I have a fear/aversion to the dentist now. Back when I was in high school, we went to a new dentist (discount bc the social worker at my school had a KID who opened up a dentistry) They were cleaning my teeth and mentioned that I had a lot of plaque build up on the bottom of my bottom row of teeth- okay no issue, leave it at that. They proceeded to make fun of my "fat lips" and gave me methods to brush while keeping my lips out of the way to brush. Apparently other people don't have this problem, just people with fat bottom lips. There were more insults disguised as jokes, but I was so turned off by it and so humiliated bc I literally can't change the size of my lips (atp) that I stopped going for three years. Even now, I dread to go. Keep it professional y'all.

      @raaewrh 10 місяців тому +8

      I know the pain, I dont know how you feel, I can relate though.. Chronically ill, multiple illnesses. 1 of the illnesses+ all meds impacts my teeth. I was born with a couple of my milkteeth aswell and had to have them pulled at 4-5 hrs old (youngest patient that dentist ever had, hehe)
      When I was 8 I lost all my milkteeth at once. In a few days..😐
      Then my adult teeth broke, got cracks, chipped, also one was way over treated, so now the root is exposed and it looks like
      you've cut the tooth 3/4 down . Almost nothing left of it. Super painful.😔
      Due to my illness, medications work very differently on me. Things like Lidocaine does not work. Ive had nerve blockers prior to surgery they wanted me awake for, no matter how I tried explaining that it does not work on me, all it does is making it 5% numb, many docs thinks I just want drugs. When they realize "oh no.. shit. She didn't lie" it's usually when they do something horrifically painful. When they gave me a nerve blocker for my hand and finger surgery, they only listened when 1. I screamed when they made the incision, I couldn't see when they cut, they make you look away+they have a cover so you cant see even jf you look. 2. Realizing I could move my arm, hand and fingers with no effort, even though that part should have been fully numb, to the point of it being temporarily paralyzed basically.
      So.. that's fun. Not traumatising at all. 😒
      Still. My teeth are so broken. I cant afford the dentist, I'm traumatised, they don't have the right equipment so I have to go to a more expensive specialist and I have to risk my life going under full general anesthesia due to the numbing meds not working.
      But at this point? I'd do it without painrelief if it meant that I could have my teeth fixed. I cant eat properly, my teeth are falling apart, piece by piece.
      I wish you the best health and hope you get the dental care you need and deserve. You are not alone. You are beautiful, you are worthy, you are a fighter ❤

      Nah, in the US teeth aren't considered health care so they're independent. There is a licensing board of course but that's the only oversight. Insurance doesn't cover dental and you can buy dental "insurance" but it's not really insurance it's a partial prepayment. You pay $1200 a year and the "insurance" will then cover 80% of your costs up to $1000. Though if you need anything major done they won't cover it for the first year and only 50% of it in the second year. You have to have been on the insurance for a full 3 years before they'll cover that 80% of a major procedure and still only up to $1000. So the $3600 you paid them those first 3 years, they just pocket that.

I have autism and I've had bad experiences with dentists before, so it's already traumatizing for me to go in for a regular check up but if he made those jokes to me I would have privately called my mom and we would have left. Jesus Christ. Most of the people at the dentist I go to have trouble making payments, cause fuck the us healthcare system, and it's not fair to make fun of someone for something they generally struggle with. I know a lot of people besides me who struggle to make dentists appointments because it gets them so nervous.

    I love doctor channels/accounts that are professional and actively work to get information out to the public, clear up misconceptions, etc. I DESPISE immature doctor channels that just joke around and rely on gimmicks and turn their very serious careers into influencer material. As someone who is on track to receive a DVM degree next spring, I really really hate this breakdown of the barrier between casual content and what should be highly professional fields dealing with various aspects of people and animals' health. Even if you're not actively being unprofessional such as climbing on top of your patients on video, or even downright harmful such as abusing your power dynamic to bully them, I just feel that presenting yourself AS your doctor identity while making silly internet content is a great way to completely degrade the integrity of your profession in the public's eye. As I mentioned, there are certainly ways to use your credentials on social media in positive ways that help bridge the gap between the public and professionals, WITHOUT crossing the line to where the "influencer" part starts to come first and everyone can tell. You can even do silly influencer stuff on your own, separately from your professional identity. Just don't mix them, for god's sake. We already have a trust issue with many demographics.

    Many of them talked about how they were terrified of the dentist and were thankful for her kindness and patience. Others were saying how embarassed they were to go in and appreciated the non-judgemental space. Others talked about how terrible their self esteem was before getting their teeth fixed, and how much better they feel about themselves after.
    It made me super proud of my cousin, and it made me realize how important the emotional side of good dental care can be.

    • @guytrashgurtdog
      @guytrashgurtdog 10 місяців тому +1

      Okay as a recovering addict to opioids, benzos, and other drugs and as someone very familiar with drugs/medications that is WILD. Xanax I can see somewhat making sense, but only as a one time thing in the office for anxiety while getting work done, not a script you go home with for more. Some dentists will give a single dose of Xanax like between .25mg to 1mg and that’s not too crazy, although most now prefer to use nitrous (laughing gas) because of how strong benzos are (and a lot of the overkill fear mongering around addiction but that’s another conversation) and if you want something else stronger like a benzo you often have to go to your doctor to get it prescribed. My dentists won’t but my psychiatrist gave me 1mg of klonopin (also a benzo like Xanax except lasts way longer and works better for me personally, something I used to be horribly addicted to because of my anxiety and panic disorder and it ruined my life because benzos are the absolute worst thing to be addicted to and one of the most dangerous) because I’m terrified of the dentist and have extreme agoraphobia and anxiety currently and don’t handle nitrous well.
      But there is absolutely no reason for a dentist to be prescribing norco, ambien, and weight loss drugs…..weight loss drugs makes no goddamn sense for a dentist whatsoever. norco is way too strong of an opioid for dental work, most dentists opt for non opioid pain medications like NSAIDs and only use opioids when it’s a lot of intense painful work and even then they usually opt for less strong opioids like tramadol or codeine/Tylenol #3 or often Vicodin because it seems to work really well for teeth pain specifically. Norco is overkill and makes no sense, *maybe* it could make sense only in the case of extreme painful dental surgery. Ambien is just???? Why??? I get it can make people go to sleep and somewhat help some people’s anxiety, but it’s a heavy duty intense sleeping med and there are MUCH better alternatives for anxiety and anesthesia. Regular ass anesthesia meds are better, nitrous is better for anxiety. Hell even benzos would make more sense for anxiety. Ambien doesn’t even help a lot of people’s anxiety, at least benzos almost always help anxiety. Ambien really f*cks people up not usually in a good way. it’s very very strong and can make you black out, act crazy, and not remember anything. It’s not a good anesthesia med or anxiety med, it’s not even guaranteed to knock people out or make them less anxious. Some people get more anxious and get confused and out of it and start freaking out. There’s a reason it’s never really used as anesthesia and is usually only used in last resort cases of extreme insomnia…my partner has had very weird experiences with it. Makes 0 sense in a dental setting.
      And it’s extra bad if he was prescribing ambien or benzos more than just one time at the office, the reason he’d even *maybe* need to use those would be at most a one time thing in the office. Opioids like norco would be extra bad if he was prescribing them more then a few days to a week (MAYBE two weeks at most if it was an intense dental surgery, norco is still extreme). And weight loss meds I cannot see any reason why he’d need to prescribe them, but I guess I’m not a dentist idk but he’s clearly shady so it was probably him just being shady. I wonder what weight loss drugs? I’m assuming amphetamines since they’re a narcotic and he clearly likes to prescribe those to people….
      man over prescribing narcotics is way less common today, like really uncommon, it’s actually usually the opposite now they’re so worried about some people getting addicted that they’re neglecting people who need those medications and not giving it to them. But man over prescribing does still happen sometimes clearly and it’s always so shitty. I have been addicted to opioids and benzos and it was one of the worst and hardest things I’ve been through, I can’t imagine how many people he put through hell just giving them so many strong narcotics when they didn’t need them to then potentially get hooked on.
