Fluorite has iron in it. You have no need to add iron to your planted tank if you're using fluorite. It also has trace elements such as magnesium and potassium. I have used the fluorite black sand for years and my plants consistently thrive!
@@Emeri666 I like flouritue sand much more than the regular fluorite. The sand holds plants down better and if you have bottom dwellers like Cory catfish etc the sand is better for them. I use the fluorite black sand and that's it. Juts some root tabs by my plants and they always grow and thrive. Just make sure you rinse it like crazy before you put in your tank. It needs major rinsing or your tank will be a total mess. But once rinsed you are all good.
Oil-Dri from Tractor Supply Co has the same cation exchange capacity as Flourite, but they look more natural because there’s a little color variation. And 40 lbs is $7.
Would love to see some samples of the sands and gravels and a comparison of the two types.
Thanks, Well presented 👍 Could be helpful to see the product out of the bag to gauge the particle size, colour, etc & compare with the gravel 😜
We'll take that into consideration if we make another video on fluorite sand. Thank you for watching!
This was an extremely helpful video!!! Thank you!
Would the Onyx Sand be safe for an aquatic turtle aquarium?
Does this sand contain iron, is it safe for shrimp?

Im starting one myself and thinking dirt capped with florite black sand
thank you for the great information..
Does this substrate supply iron to the tank?
Have you tried mixing flourite and flourite sand?
I have I didn’t realize I two different bags and then the other two that went in were brown. As of right now my plants are flourishing!!!
Seachem - take clay, bake it, and then call it sand. Two differing geological entities.
