You managed to clarify many doubts, I'm putting together a soil spreadsheet that has advantages and disadvantages and your video came to me all ready. The only thing missing from my list is Activ-Flora Floracor. Your video is super important, it's a shame it has few views and likes, it's a real treasure. Thank you.
This video is a fantastic guide for planted tank enthusiasts. 😊 Choosing the right substrate is crucial for plant health, and your insights on the best options are really helpful. Mr Aqua Soil is perfect for me which has less Ammonia and it's less expensive too. Thanks for simplifying this important aspect of aquarium care. 🌱🐠
I have learned a lot about planteling tanks in suitable substrate. This video is very useful for me because its topic is related to my field of interest
This video is very helpful for aquarium hobbyists who want to choose the best substrate for the plants in their aquarium. The information is very useful and makes decision making easier. Thanks for the recommendation
"Excellent video! Your detailed breakdown of the top 7 substrates for planted tanks really helped me make an informed decision for my own aquarium. Thanks for sharing this valuable information!"
Great substrate insights! Choosing the best for planted tanks is crucial. Thanks for sharing your top picks. It'll help enhance our aquatic ecosystems. 🌱🐟
The Best Substrate For Plante,Excellent video is just what I was looking. I like the way you explain it is very clear has been useful clear many doubts thank you for sharing.💜️
The 7 options are great with very interesting accessories. Of the 7 choices there are advantages and disadvantages, but of all the best choices I choose Tropica Aquasoil, it is very beautiful, greener and cooler, comfortable, seems very bright and clean, that's what I think is possible. Others have different opinions, the information is very important, wait for the next update, sir
What about using ADA Amazonia as a base layer capped by a sand substrate? This is what I have been planning to do. I believe the sand will limit the nutrients released into the water column and shorten the cycle. Thought?
Would anybody have any good recommendations of soil that you can use underneath the substrate like what you were mentioning towards the end of the video?
Hi Samantha. Apologies it wasn't mentioned in the video. Try to find Miracle Grow Organic Choice or Scott's Lawn Care Hyponex Potting Soil. For UK - try John Innes No.3 Compost
I'm going for Dirted tank with topoff with aquasoil. Cheapest and good route. In the begining it's just painful, need a looong time to stabilish since soil will leech nutrients even faster than ada aquasoil for example.
Dianna Walstad herself showed how to use garden soil or potting soil in aquarium for plants. She soaked the soil overnight and then added it in aquarium, capped with sand and gravel and planted plants . After a week she added fishes ( most probably ). I used plants that doesn't need substrate after reading your blog about column feeding plants. I had gravels only fron 1.5" to 2.5" , now the gravels are almost covered with mulm , that is 1 inch deep . So I've added Amazon sword if they can survive or not , but what I see is they're giving out new leaves within a month. And I keep checking water parameters which is fine . I'm thinking of using this method in my all aquariums . I always have felt that using nutrient rich soil and keep changing water to lower the nutrients in water column is waste of money, because we're throwing away what we bought. So I never wanted to get soil and root feeding plants . BTW I had no idea about so many types of active substrate 👍
Yes the Walstad method is something that is best explained in a separate video. This video was about commercial substrates. I mentioned the DIY or garden soil in this video, but it wouldn’t do it justice to just mention it in the video - which is why I said it requires research and a separate video. There is no issue with capped substrates when done right - I just prefer a separate video to discuss. It’s hard enough that many UA-camrs and blogger just say do it but can’t even recommend a few proper garden soils. There are so many out there and it’s easy to pick the wrong with if you don’t know what you are doing .
I used dirt from my yard it’s all organic Because I don’t spray anything on it ever So the gophers dug up the top soil for me and that’s what I used It worked great . However this I was my second dirted fish tank my first one I used organic potting soil . Which , i will change out soon . And just Use my back yard dirt it’s cheap and fun.
Amazonia LIGHT has a slightly lighter color and contains less nutrients, making it a better option for established aquariums that do not need acycling jump-start
Activ-Flora Floracor Black Planted Aquarium Substrate is my Favorite. I've used damn near everything... Great active substrate that's not harmful to Most bottom dwellers alike.

You can totally do that. I’ve seen it done before. Most people will do dirted substrate caps to save money

@@AquariumStoreDepot those are both safe to use in a freshwater tank? Also wondering did you make any videos about that at all?

Yes dirted is great it just need a separate video to discuss how to do it correctly. I have no issues with it as long as it is done right

Very well video i need some exesice
I'm about to hit up some gymnast rings later today ^_^
what about Aqueon Plant and Shrimp Aquarium Substrate ? how is it for planted tanks with Fish .
I haven’t used it myself but from what I’m seeing it’s clay based so it should work with many rooted plants
Did anyone else notice the giant pleco in that tiny tank? That's messed up. Very informative video tho.
I’m sure ppl have. The footage is from a local fish store. It’s definitely not the best example
Yep it was the first thing that jumped out at me
That Talking Goldfish though. 😂😂😂
I never knew about aquarium substrates 😅
There is always a time to learn xD!
Activ-Flora Floracor Black Planted Aquarium Substrate is my Favorite. I've used damn near everything... Great active substrate that's not harmful to Most bottom dwellers alike.
💕👌
What's the brand of the aqua soil you use?
UN or Stratum since they are easy to find where I’m at. ADA is amazing for advanced builds. Tropica is great brand in the UK region
