That's a great truck you have! It sounds amazing, and it was really impressive watching you drive. I noticed the first time you got stuck, you didn't spin tires, when you lost momentum and it got sketchy, you had the good sense to call it and pull cable. That's a great lesson, I hope a lot of other people pick up on that.
I always wondered about the cable strength when using pulleys. Even the one you had would technically be sketchy when using pulleys under full load right?
You talked about some issues with your RAM...I think this hilites a belief i have of NEVER buying an all new version of anything. I learned my lesson in 1988 when GMC redesigned their K series trucks. Now it is the Tundra. I am a Toyota guy but even Toyota has had some teething issues with the new Tundra. I contrast that with my 20 TUNDRA TRD OR and have had only 2 minor issues...a bad battery and a cracked windshield. The Tundra being in production for well over a decade was nearly problem free. I found it interesting about the rotary dial gear selector and you feeling it is stupid...again look at the New Tundra...NO TOW HOOKS...LIKE WTF. I would take a dial gear selector if it meant having tow hooks 🪝. BTW...your power wagon is no slouch.
Dodge really knocked it out of the park with the design on this ram. I think it's the best looking pickup from an exterior perspective. Maybe I'm crazy
This was great! Justin is a really good example of exactly how to drive. I was impressed when he got stuck the first time, he didn't floor it and spin tires, he just realized it was time to pull cable. That's a great way of preserving both the vehicle and the trail.
As a power wagon owner I can say just about everything he says is true. The power wagon does everything very well except fuel economy. When you hammer on It off road they just go to work. Best sound ever.
One thing I left out..don’t open the doors while in gear or it will go into park automatically… and doesn’t wanna come out. Makes you look like an idiot if people are behind you.
I completely agree. I have got as high as 18mpg on multiple tanks with mine. I also noticed zero change in fuel Mileage going to 37" KO2s. The factory Wranglers are terrible for mileage. I swapped to 37" Kanati Trail Hogs which are exactly the same tread pattern as the factory Wranglers and I lost about 15%.
In an effort to help the viewers understand how steep some of the obstacles are, maybe consider setting up some brightly colored poles / markers / things which are perfectly vertical. Then, by including those in some of the shots, it would get easier to see just how steep things are
Great video guys Justin sure knows the capabilities of his Power Wagon and was awesome to see him put the winch to work, and TFL now has a Seafaring family member Seaman 1st class Tommi Mica 😎
Relatively speaking, the mileage of this truck is actually pretty good. A Tacoma on 35s is getting in the 13 to 15 MPG range, and when I was a kid I had a regular cab short bed Chevy squarebody with a 350 that only managed to get 8mpg. Considering the size, power, and capability of this truck, 13-15 is actually quite good.
I'm a little jealous of the mileage. I have an 03 dodge 2500 two wheel drive. I'm lucky to get 12mpg on the highway, with a 5 speed and a 5.7 hemi. Unless I run the AC. Lol
@@wirebrush that's crazy, haha. Toyota trucks are good at a lot of things, but fuel economy is not one of them. It is pretty impressive how far Dodge has come in that regard, my dad had a 98 Ram half ton 4wd with a 318 that barely got 12 on stock tires.
Love the taming tumbleweed series. The powewagon is awesome. Also, haven't laughed so hard in a while... The ending with Tommy out on the Huck Finn raft 🤣
14:20 - pulling back to yourself does not increase the tension in the line. You just have twice as much line with the same tension so twice the force (with a pulley at the tree)
I have been driving a 2015 Kia Optima getting 24-28 mpg, I have been researching the F Lineup, Bronco, Denali, Silverado, and the Jeeps. I have literally researched everything and have decided if I am going to give up my gas mileage, I am definitely going with the Power Wagon. The only ONLY downside is that I am a contracted delivery driver and at 11-13 city mpg (holy cow)... oh, well. Guess I better get a side gig pulling cars out of ditches during the winter months.
Iv owned 8 different new trucks in the last 10 years..Trust me there is no better feeling than holding a power wagon to the floorboard.. they just get shit done! We buried mine to the grill in a blizzard and had to shovel to get it moving again.. but when we sent it everyone was like we aren’t gonna make it and it just tore it up pushing snow over the hood in the mountains!
Great to see the Power Wagon living up to its name. However, the final pond scene stole the show and had me cracking up. You guys may need to put a comedic out take episode up some day.
Thanks to Justin and the TFL team for the great video! I really like my 2022 PW, but when it comes to engine noise, quieter is better. I like my neighbors, I don't want to wake them up every morning when I leave for work.
this was a great episode. loved watching justin and the power wagon go through the course. it is certainly a beast. i almost got one recently but couldnt justify the purchase so i got a ram echo diesel instead. keep it up guys, run those trucks through the paces....
I went from a wrangler JK rubicon to the power wagon similar equipped I had to purchase a winch for the jeep should come OEM! I live in North west SC and the clay is very slippery when wet had to recover a few times glad I had anchoring options made it easy. I needed the extra pulling and storage that my Jeep could not, I still have the jeep and you can’t beet the agility it has on the switch back trails!!! Thanks for the video
I drive a 2020 Ram 1500, and yes, you have to take your eyes off the road to see which dial you are turning!! Not like an old truck that had buttons, dials, levers, and a proper gear shifter so you knew what you were doing without taking your eyes off the road!!
When is tumbleweed open to the public I wanna book my next vacation there 😂 LOVE seeing RAM own the trail, and I agree with one of the other comments more Kase and Tommy 🤷♂️😁
That’s why I’m torn on getting one. I want a capable truck but how half tons cost as much as this truck for comparable features when that’s the size I want makes me want a power wagon. But then factor in that damn forced bed size and I don’t want the power wagon.
My opinion is the Ram Power Wagon is the sweet spot for the Ram super trucks. It’s the calm super capable everywhere guy where the TRX is the loud boisterous, obnoxious and messy clumsy brother. Everyone notices the entertaining TRX brother who is a very obviously misbehaving party boy whilst the capable Power Wagon brother just goes about and gets the job done well and proves to be the good confident enjoyable companion and friend to spend time with. Go Power Wagon.

In Nathan’s words, “Power Wagon don’t care!” This video proved it! Well done 👍🏾
Well, the Power Wagons SOMETIMES cares...he said that also.

Assuming a capable driver.
Justin is my kind of driver, going as slow as possible and not ramming it trough the obstacles, and taking care of his ride.
vehicles are too expensive to fix with lead foot syndrome all the time haha
Till it gets stuck
I agree. Respect for machinery is important.
Kinda forgot about how capable the power wagon is with all of the press being about raptor/tremor/trx/rebel/zr2/traiboss the last 2 yrs
They've been the most capable since WW2
That truck is not wimpy by any stretch
And considering the price in comparison, it’s a great truck

Nathan must have been jealous that Tommy got to spend time in the Power Wagon 😉
Yep
Jealous doesn’t touch it, bitter does!!!
Tumbleweed made the Power Wagon care a little bit. Great video guys.
The Power Wagon just thought the mud pits weren't deep enough, that's all.
hahaha, yes it cared just a tiny bit!
He could have gotten his self out of the first obstacle without the winch if he would have rocked her for a bit

With those not very off-road tires and being a large and heavyweight truck, that thing did fairly well.
