Why Did I Buy a Ram Power Wagon?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 лис 2020
- The Ram Power Wagon is the Heavy Duty Off-roader of the truck community and it’s heritage dates back to the 1940’s and is well known for its big, tough, trail dominating capabilities. This 2020 model is the 5th Generation of the modern Power Wagons and the off-road refinements and modern interior amenities make this a highly sought-after adventure vehicle for those looking for a full size truck, long range expedition rig and weekend trail adventure truck. I’ve had my eye on the Power Wagons for a while now, and I’m looking forward to, pushing this truck to its limits on the dirt, adding a few modification to fit my needs and sitting back and enjoying the ride on some long-range overland adventures. I think this platform has a whole lot of potential. #powerwagon #ramtruck

I felt a sudden disturbance in the force, as if millions of jeep guys cried out in terror
Late reaction to bronco reveal? LOL
Great comment, made me LOL.
Rotfl 😂 mixed emotions.
LOL. I almost spit out my coffee reading this one.
That was awesome, still laughing
Always interesting to see people who move on from Jeeps and discover how miserable their comfort level was. The Ram looks nice. Congrats.
@@johnkraft5640 He still has the Wrangler diesel.
One truly does realize the meaning of understatement when I compare the comfort of our 2020 PW to our 76 CJ5.
Took off his training wheels and bought an actual truck lol
Wow looks amazing but I just can’t see myself off-roading with such a massive vehicle. Much better suited for Touring/Overlanding IMHO. Congrats on the new truck!!! 👍
I have a Gladiator Mojave I think it's just as comfortable as any off road vehicle out there.
replace side decal with "TrailWagon".... just a thought
I second the motion 🙂👍
Third!

Not bad. Not bad at all!
Went over to the dark side! And here we are drooling over the gladiator
Haven't watched the answer yet, but my guess is because
1. It's just badass
2. Redlands dealership freakin loves you lol
Every week I feel like you add a new rig to your fleet. Very blessed brother, congrats and keep up the great work.
My guy I need this lift comparison video in my life. My whole builds on hold waiting for it. Keep up the stellar work brother.
In a couple weeks.... sorry to make you wait.
@@TrailRecon sorry?!? I’m hella excited, I really appreciate the effort. Be well during these uncertain times. It will be worth the wait I’m sure
I appreciate trail recon channel because you always say how things fit your needs and give reasons why and why not when most channels are just trying to brag and show off. Thanks for all you do for the community
Yes! I can’t wait to see what you do with this truck! I’ve been hooked on your videos but drive a 2500. So amped!
Right on!
I wish I got the powerwagon now looking back. Got a great covid deal in May for my 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. Put a 4 in BDS lift on it with 35 in KM3’s. Could’ve had all that capability plus more with the Wagon which warranty would cover everything. Beautiful rig and welcome to the RAM FAMILY!
@@ryanneyland2997 got me right in the feels with that one! I traded in my ‘19 Rebel after installing a 6” BDS with Fox coilovers, 10k winch, etc. for a 2500. Expensive lesson learned. Caught the travel trailer bug and now waiting on the 5th updates to roll over into the heavy duty rigs so I can upgrade the trailer. I do have to say that the Carli suspension and 37” Ridge Grapplers made the truck. Prior to those upgrades, there was no way I could live with the ride quality. I’m guessing the Power Wagon is a tad less brutal on the spine with those Bilsteins?
@@ryanneyland2997 Thanks for posting this. I'm also considering Rebel vs PW.
I got you fam.
I’m a Chevy guy but I have to say the new dodge trucks are really nice.
Same here, and completely agree
I third that. I'll probably be trading in the Boss for a Power Wagon early next year.
I’ve always been team Chevy... only until the 5th Gen Rams came out. Then I went and bought one lol, I love my ‘21 Rebel
67d rail on the dash? Who makes the handheld radio holder???
I hate admitting it but same here.
I really enjoyed learning about the new Power Wagon in this presentation, Brad. I can picture lots of good times in your future. Congrats and happy trails!
This is super exciting. Can’t wait to see your mods! The truck is gorgeous.
As a full size truck owner, I'm so excited to see someone respected go the full size truck route. Maybe it'll help get some after market support finally. Can't wait to see your ideas.
I honestly can't wait to see what you do to it!!!
Congrats, that's a fantastic looking truck! Love the way it looks in white, looking forward to seeing more videos with this Beast! For a full size truck, you've definitely made the right choice.
As far as the other choices, I couldn't imagine you making any other choice than the PW. Knowing what you do with a vehicle, having front and rear solid axles with locking differentials isn't available anywhere else in a full-size pickup.
I ❤️ my 2020 P/W.
I Am so glad you love your new truck, congrats. Can't wait to see where you go and the mods you add.
As for the back cover, depending on how big you want to go, take a look at Diamond Back covers. They are tough enough to handle having ATVs and Side X Sides loaded on them.
Phenomenal truck! Looking forward to your future vids on it.
Thanks 👍
Looks amazing hope you enjoy it & show your fans your memories with this truck. I'll be following! 👍
Congrats Brad, great content glad you change it up can’t wait for more!
For less money - you get an entry level ram tradesman with a “power wagon” option. All suspension mods present but absent some creature comforts of the actual power wagon.
Tradesman just looks basic though.
They haven’t been doing the tradesmen power wagon for a couple years now. It was a great option for this truck!
Congratulations on the sweet full size truck! I have always enjoyed Dodge pickups. Surely this is a great addition to the TrailRecon fleet. Keep up the great work and ignore the haters
Thank you!
I’m so stoked for this, Brad. Well done buddy, and thanks for all the great content!
Glad you enjoy it!
Congrats on the truck! Thanks for revealing some of the features it has, great video!
“Add a few modifications” we’ll see about that lol
It don’t need much. Just needs to be kitted out. 👍👍
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this beast. I'd probably go with the rocksliders first then some onboard air.
I love it. Congratulations. It’s too big for me, but I’m going to enjoy watching the TrailRecon adventures. See you out there.
I do love jeeps. But I have been looking at Power Wagons for a long time and I am SO glad that you got one and will be able to share your insight on it. I love your approach because you don't carry bias with it. You just tell everyone what you honestly think.
I have to admit that RAM looks soooo awesome....I'm still loving my JKU, though
Hope the truck brings you a lot of great memories and adventures in the new year
Congrats on the new truck, can’t wait to see what you do and where you go with it. Cheers from British Columbia!
Finally, a good review of this truck. You did a great job 👏🏽
Beautiful truck brother!
Would love to see how big a difference the disconnecting sway bars make, and then before and after on the suspension. Great choice on truck! Can’t wait to see the adventures in it!
What size aev wheel is that the 8.5 or 10, and what shock did you end up getting?
You're enjoyment with this rig makes me smile. Although with all of your rides, your unmasked pleasure is always comforting, a true pleasure. Thanks, God Bless. Hope
you and family have a wonderrful holiday. Being from N. Unikornia, i know how difficult that can be. GB
Finally! A channel with a full size rig I can relate to. Been a sub for a while now and love the hero content but this is more my speed!
Love the AEV wheels! Looking forward to this build and where it will take you.
More to come!
@@TrailRecon So will some E load rated(13.50 BFG's are) 37x13.50r17 be next😉 KM3 or K02?(I would pick the KM3's for above freezing weather on pavement). By the way I think that Ram full sized trucks look the best in the front and side vs the other options👍😄👍
@@TrailRecon Brad did Rebel Off-road help you choose the wheels, cause the fitment looks really good in that truck.
Could you give the exact size of the wheels and tires?

I owned a 1500 quad cab Ram for 2 years and I loved it. Also I have been driving a 2500 Ram with a Hemi for work the last 2 years out on South East New Mexico through rough terrain. I am impressed to where this truck has gone with no problems. You will be absolutely happy with your purchase. It will serve its purpose well.
Hey brother good to see you expand! Everyone loves the power wagon. Happy to see it on the trails of my youth! Excited to see what mods you go with.
Brad , your holding up the hole U.S economy ! With all the rigs you buy and trade in ! Welcome to the big truck world!!
So glad you got a Power Wagon. I can't afford or justify one, I get to live vicariously through your vids.
've been waiting on this review!!! Sad to see the Gladiator go BUT I'm loving the Power Wagon!!! I look forward to all the future mods and adventures!
I love the video! I’ve been looking into getting one for awhile now for my new overland rig so thanks for the input.
Get a diamondback tonneau cover HD. Perfect setup for overland and just about anything else since you can put 1600 pounds on it
@@jc7435 right but my point is that it's very strong
A recommendation, add a Carli lower-half front differential guard to protect your front gear set. Tombstones everywhere looking to kiss and crush your front factory diff cover. Enjoy!
That’s for sure. I have the Carli front diff cover and have hit it several times. Sometimes breaking the rocks.
Congrats Brad! Yes sir that is a BAD ASS truck! I got my granite crystal with a roof in July and absolutely love it. 17k miles later and it just gets better!! Hope to see you on the trail sometime - have a blast in your new PW!!!
I can’t wait to see the up grades thanks for share your adventures I really enjoy your videos
I want to see it with the AEV Prospector goodies and 40’s!
Remember the tv show SIMON AND SIMON? THE POWER WAGON??
Started my love for the Wagon. 👍👍
You WILL NOT REGRET your new purchase, I've been driving my '14 for 6 yrs now and I am still in love EVERY TIME I get behind the wheel, congrats on your UPGRADE!!!
Cant wait to see how the build goes and how it does overlanding keep us posted!
So happy u got this truck. Get a camper shell for the enclosed bed. That would look great.
I traded in my jk for a power wagon in 2017 and I haven’t looked back.
how has it held up for you? im trying to decide what truck to get. i drive alot for work
@@parkerprecision6675 not too bad. I’ve had to replace the starter and the battery. I drive 20miles each way to work. And it’s really comfy. Im happy with it. it fits my wife 2 kids and 2 dogs.
Great decision on the Power Wagon!!! I will be watching your adventures more now. Well played! 👍👍👍
Brad, I can't wait to see how this thing turns out! Keep up the good work shipmate.
Hey, just be happy there actually is a lever coming through the floor for that cheap knob to attach to!!! Next year it will be gone, replaced by a button on the dash.
It's an ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION, dolt.
Great video, Brad! I love the Power Wagon, but crave the diesel. If they'd make the Cummins available in the Power Wagon that would be a no-brainer, take-my-money buy for my next rig. Enjoy the trails with Jordan!
EXCELLENT video as usual. Very excited you bought this, helped me to make my decision and ordered mine yesterday. Your color choice also happened to be mine so looking forward to seeing what you choose for accessories. Happy holidays to you and yours
Love the new Power Wagons! I’m still rocking my 97 Ram 1500, it has 295K on it and just won’t quit! Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.
Excellent choice Brad. This‘ll have me watching the channel again!
almost bought this exact one ended up going with the Raptor but still love it grats on your ride!
You should got the power wagon it's a true four wheel drive
Love it! looking forward to seeing modifications! Just ordered my
Dodge truck and the wife and I are getting into build outs for over-landing. Thanks for all the content!
Definitely excited to see what you do with this. This would be one of my picks if it were in my price range, for sure!
Please show every mod you do. I love my 2018 PW!
Get some Thuren parts and some white knuckle sliders and it'll be good to go.
Came here to say the same thing. Thuren is top quality
I said it before and I’ll say it again I am beyond excited to see what you do to this PW and more importantly where you take it! I got a 2020 ram 1500 4x4 crew cab with ram boxes in august and it has been perfect even with the 5.7L hemi I’m averaging 17mpg. With a small lift and 35s I think I’ll be perfect offroad (for what I do) and then a truck bed cover system and bed deck system storage won’t be an option. What you do will no doubt inspire me to do more with my Ram. Cheers and happy new year Brad!
I love your enthusiasm for a big truck. After years of having many Jeeps, BMWs, MINIs, etc., never in my wildest dreams would I have though I'd enjoy a full-sized truck as much as I do. As you say, it's just a "nice place to be".
I haven't seen any PowerWagon off-road videos. Hopefully, you can fill that niche.
Yeah, fullsize overlanding is seriously untapped.
I can make ya some

Love it! Cant wait for the content!
I love the new Rams. Im torn between an AEV Ram or the new Tundra? I hate that the tundra is now a V6 turbo but hopefully it keeps that toyota reliability and resale.
New Tundra if you don't want any fuss for sure. 1 million mile truck can't be beat. Maybe the ram would last 300-500k tops? Toyota would not put in a new power plant unless it's bullet proof.
@@healer81 I'm just worried about the new tundra being an all new generation 1 model. Might have bugs that need to be ironed out?
@@mixflip I am in the same decision boat as you, and waiting for the new Tundra's specs and launch. I'm pretty confident that Toyota will have fewer bugs than any other company, though, and have loved life with my 271k mi FJ Cruiser and 175k mi Sequoia.

Great choice! I really love those trucks, I’ve always wanted a Power Wagon, maybe someday. It’s really cool to see someone use them for what they were built to do. I will definitely be following.
If you want to see what it can really do, I got you.
Congratulations with your new truck, have fun!!
I’d take a PW over two Glads just for the practicality for my needs.
I'm curious as to why it didn't seem that a Toyota 4runner or Tacoma were a consideration for you? It seems like the Power Wagon would be limited due to it's size in some cases where as the Toyotas are more capable vehicles with just as much comfort, amenities, and towing capabilities for your needs. Thoughts? Regardless, love the opportunity to see a new vehicle and build!
He technically already has a Tacoma for E3 camera crew.
He had a gladiator which is better than the Tacoma so been there done that and he has a wrangler which is better than the 4Runner for just about everything. So he decided on something different and solid axles are always better for offroad unless you’re trying to go do what the trx and raptor are made for. It’s big but it sounds like he already has his rock crawler he’s looking for a big overlanding truck. If he wanted to keep a smaller truck he’d keep the gladiator and he already has an suv.
Tacoma’s are underpowered and have a crap, shift happy transmission.
@@flash1034 yes they are having serious Transmission problems and Electrical problems
Seems like he wanted a full size, the Tacoma is an extremely small platform that a lot of people out grow very quickly. Unfortunately they will probably make it further then a Tacoma or a 4Runner, the power wagon has lockers front and rear compared to the Tacoma or 4Runner rear locker and crawl control. Coming from a guy with a Tacoma.
I am so excited that you bought a Power Wagon! It looks like you got all the extras and goodies on it. We took delivery of our custom ordered 2021 Rebel diesel on Nov. 3rd which has almost all the extras, too. I am eager to see how you build out your truck because we are looking to do the same with ours.
Shift on the floor is my favorite feature on the truck. Some weeks hunting I use it 50+ times and it’s simply reliable. It engages immediately like it should. Buttons or knobs simple do not compare! I put 15k miles on mine in the first 1.5 months and have almost no complaints other than my previous ford had a flat back floor.
Congratulations Brad, Why didn’t you get the Ram Box?
If you plan to put any sort of topper or slide in camper or anything that sits on the bed rails, that would render the Ram Boxes useless.

@@Terruhcutta That's great Man...I was being fasciitis. I owned a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins with all the options...After less than 5-years it was one thing after another.
The driver's side plastic bezel holding the switches to the power windows needed to be replaced 4-times by the time I sold it after over 10-years and 150K miles. Same with the parking break lever although that only snapped off twice. All tickie-tack stuff that only the stealership would have on hand as a replacement at a cost.
The power steering went out at just over 30K and was replaced under warranty till it went out again at 60K...Lucas leak stop took care of that repetitive problem but then I had to replace the wheel bearings at 70K.
Rear power windows stopped working right around 50K. Power Passenger side seat failed just under 100K. Stereo needed to be replaced twice. Transmission started going out just over 100K. Paint began to turn yellow after about 7-8 years of living in the desert. Sunroof wasn't working by the time I off loaded it. Alternator needed to be replaced just as I traded-in the truck...
Point being - Don't believe the hype. These trucks are NOT what they advertise and the days of commercials showing owners at 500K and 1 Million miles are over. Pay to play and continue to do so with Dodge/Ram/Fiat/Chrysler...Whatever they identify as this week.
