We ain’t never get a 77% raise in 2018, wth is he talking about. And he’s not the one working outside in the heat, rain, snow and freezing cold for 20+ hours straight. And if they’re in a rush, they tell us to skip lunch so if you weren’t prepared then you’ll starve for however long the job is. Yeah he’s not thinking about none of that $hit! Sthu!
When a shipping carrier CEO gives himself a 4 billion dollar bonus, how does that help the US economy? He did not mention one word about record profits of carriers are making and that Longshoremen are asking for their fair slice of the pie. Did he compare Longshoremen current wage rates to other industries. His strategy is for Americans to earn less, so the companies dont replace you with robots. I'm confused, is he saying that Unions should weaken their bargaining position, because that is what companies do for the good the country. They should increase wages if they want to help the US economy. So if the Longshoremen get wage increases, will shipping carries raise prices on consumers or take less profits? I think we all know the answer to that. He is completely right, companies move away from Unions because they dont want to share with the American worker, I guess we know where he stands.
My husband has been a longshoreman in the Port of Virginia for over 30 years. They have never got a 77% pay raise or nothing close to it. He might be talking about the West Coast! But not on the East Coast. It may vary from anywhere from .50 to $1.00 and my husband has every contract book since he's been on the waterfront. I'm calling him out on that BS!

Also, tell the facts we didn’t get anywhere near a 70% in 2018. We work 24 hours a day 7 days a week in all kinds of weather. Through the pandemic i never missed a minute nor got any additional compensation from anyone. The shipping companies make Billions year after year on our backs. Sir when was the last time you worked all night long trying to stay alive and provide for your family. We don’t want to cripple this great country we live in. We don’t want to hurt the individuals that rely on the goods we move. We want to get compensation for our expertise and work. Can he say when is good time to ask for raise? We just had a boom and only going into recession. Unions do no negotiate every year but every 4 or 6 years. So they should ask for raise in 4 years? Do I think that US ports should get more efficient? Hell yes but not at the cost of a worker. Raise prices. Its not like someone will ship it to Mexico and move it to NJ.....and maybe more stuff will be made in USA if shipping will be slow and expansive... win win for little guy and FU to big corp
