Its nice to see how this work out for you not using beard oil anymore on the long run. Myself I feel that my beard need extra oil. Its also good to see how someone make these adjustments and see how they benefit or not. 👍 👊
No doubt. Oil was my go to. That's all needed for real! Then all the other stuff came and I started to use it. Butter really made me think. Can I keep my skin healthy and have my beard feel a little softer, with butter? Well, I'm going to find out!
Beard butter is just balm without wax and maybe a little more oil. They’re all inclusive and similar. You definitely don’t need oil, balm, and butter. You also don’t need oil and balm although many people, like myself, use both. Just because we like it haha. Balm will make a difference for a lot of people, that’s important to note. I, for one, can’t go without it just due to needing control. Great video though!
This is a great idea brotha. I think I'm gonna try this too. Just did my night time routine but I'm only going to be using a leave in conditioner and African Shea butter. I should be fine with just this since I cowash twice a day. But again great video brotha
This is almost similar to what I do but instead of butter I'm pretty much strictly oil, I personally don't like the over product my beard it has to breathe at some point

@@lumpvision5746 Fingers crossed! I've been wanting to try the Scotch Porter Co Wash for some time. I come from the UK though, so the import tax and shipping stops me. I've subbed. Looking forward to checking out your content.
I always use about a dime size of oil for the skin under the hair, that's what the oil is for is the skin more so then the hair. For shorter beards oil is fine. I use beard butter to hydrate the hair. And a balm for more control if I'm going out or styling my beard. Only thing I use a wax for is my mustashe or it goes everywhere.
Also was gonna add, I only use a beard wash 2 times a week, but I use co-wash (conditioner) everyday, if I dont do these things my beard gets horrible.
Those are all great companies. I have a curly beard , not as curly as yours, I have 75% silver hair . Most of the time I only use beard oil in the morning, oil and butter at night. ... I like your channel. Try beard octane beard butta, I won't use anything else.
Great video bro. That’s a good idea and I think you will be totally fine. I’ve used butters only on random days and always did the job. Definitely keep us posted on how it is after a month 💯👊🏽
I've been recently using just beard oil and butter to see how it works in the cold weather and surprisingly it has been working better then an oil and balm. I find my beard is more soft and stays moisturized all day. I haven't tryed just butter but might give it a shot to see how that works but for now the oil and butter combo has been working great with my beard. Good luck on your adventure with just butter man. Cant wait to here how it's been working for ya 👊👊👊✌

Thank you sir! ⚡️ It’s an honor to be on your list and in your face with a couple of our own favorites. Enjoy, please let us know how it goes and if you have any questions!
Been with Scotch Porter 4 years. I’ve tried other companies but always go back to what I know works for me. Keeping your beard moisturized is key, it doesn’t matter if it’s oil, balm , butter or all three at once. Do you Lump. Nice shirt by the way.✌🏽
Its funny you’re saying this because just yesterday, i was thinking of doing the same thing in a sense. I’ve been thinking of just using SP exclusively. I’m all over the place with products trying to see which is “best” and to be honest my beard looks and feels the same lol.
Lmao! I AGREE! That's why all of my reviews have been positive. Scent is what really separates these companies for the most part, in my opinion. Other than that, the results have been the same! SOMETIMES I can feel very slight differences good or bad but not enough to even mention.
LumpVision EXACTLY! Man u wouldn’t believe the different companies i have. Nighttime: either Detroit grooming or Beardbrand utility balm and JB castor oil. Wash/conditioner: Bossman conditioner and art of naturals(off amazon), maestros beard wash, pine tar soap. Morning/day: Honest Amish oil, grave before shave oil, honest amish balm, SP balm! Hella products for what though?! Lol
@Basil Carpenter jr that's basically all it is. Butter has the same oils as oil with some butters and waxes like balm. The consistency is thicker than oil but softer than balm. Like you said, it's a mix of oil and balm lol
I have a coworker that has had his beard for a couple of years. All he uses is butter and it is working well for him. You have to do what is beat for you.
Cool! Yeah man, I think butter is AWESOME! I always rotate so I don't know what will happen over sn extended period of time. Do you know what Company your co-worker uses?
Brother I would advise you to take just some drops of beard oil and focus on the skin under the beard rub it in the skin and then apply beard butter like you coat the beard and brush it through. Otherwise it can become very neglected and dry through time. I would also recommend to mix honey and olive oil and use like mask every week or so. Stay lion (bearded)
The honey and olive oil are definitely legit for conditioning but I don't believe straight up oil is necessary. It's definitely beneficial. The butters that I use basically break down to almost the same consistency as straight oil but have butters and wax. More benefits, less steps and individual products to use. I'm only a few weeks in but I'm almost positive that I'll be fine. I appreciate your comment and info though 🙏🏾🧔🏾. And for the skin, check out my latest video! ua-cam.com/video/RW_6QOxh1x4/v-deo.html
@@lumpvision5746yeah I don't believe straight up oil either is the way, I been there greasing up pillows and shirt and all. Right product and balance is key
So I use Detroit grooming during the day and I use unscented beard jelly and night with Scotch Porter conditioner and honestly this has made my beard so soft and so healthy and I don't need to reapply anything because both products last so long and if you apply the right amount it's not greasy for more than a minute or two and then it absorbs I would recommend this routine for everybody honestly
Interesting concepts...I have the whole line (wash, conditioner, balm, serum, oil), so it would be interesting to see what the results are. I will be checking on that. BTW, snaps on that shirt homie...
Couldn’t agree more bro, i think i have similar hairs to yours, i found my beard was softer and had better hold with just raw shea butter than a beard balm
I feel you, brother. I think the same way. Like I said in your other video that I only use the balm or butter. I just use oils on my lazy days. Also, I'm at the same with you by trying to narrow down to one or two companies at least. It feels like overwhelming by seeing all those products on my shelf (plus my hair products). I could not fathom how the guys do it. I think it's a waste by letting it sit there. I don't see it as a collection. I see it that is supposed to consume. Know what I mean. Anyway, I look forward to your updates and how you thrive. 👊🏻👌🏻

I'm so irritated lump I can't find a barber that knows how to cut a beard right I went to a barber yesterday an they cut my jaw line down so now it has to grow back has this ever happened to u before
That sucks man! This has happened to me many times. I finally have a barber who knows how to cut a beard. The only thing that I can suggest is get a cut buddy and some good clippers and do it yourself.
@Damienn KNOX Damienn, as @LumpVision said, YES! You can do it yourself. A cut-buddy is a very good plan! Start with cutting small amounts. SMALL amounts is the key! Learn from those small cuts, and from the razor. Evaluate immediately, or after a day or two of seeing how it looks. -give yourself some time to see how it looks. And, see how it looks after a shower/clean (that can highlight good & bad areas -because your head-hair & beard hair will settle into their natural position). Start with cutting too-little. -because it is easier to cut more later, than it is to grow it back. Then trim a LITTLE on the areas that look incorrect. Repeat that process over a few days or a week until it is right. By going slow like that you will learn what works, and what doesn't work --and without tragic over-cutting. It'll take 2-10+ tries like that to figure it out. So don't expect perfection on the first go. You are learning how to sculpt & cut -that takes time & practice. After a few months or year, you will be much better. And initially with small cuts you'll never have a cut that is a total disaster -just smaller areas that need fixing. I have been cutting my own hair for 30 years. And the first year was an ugly learning process. Year 2 was better, but not great. A beard is easier (becaise you can see it better), especially with a cutting buddy. I cut my hair and beard with both clippers and scissors. Be sure to have a hand-mirror so that you can see the different angles of your face/beard/head. I can cut fast now, but don't YOU try to go fast initially. The most important thing when learning is to cut SMALL amounts, wait & evaluate, then decide on what to fix next. You will figure it out and get good at it. If you dont want to do it yourself or with a cut-buddy, find a barber with a good looking beard! Then before you even sit in the chair, ask him how he would cut your beard. If you like his answers, then let him give it a go. Maybe start with a mild/short trim & shape if you want to be safe -tell him "only 1 inch to half-inch trim today". And see how that goes. I know the frustration...that is exactly why I started cutting my own hair -terrible cuts, regardless of whether it was $12 or $60 for the cut...they just didn't know how to cut hair for the shape of the head or the style desired. So, I hope that helps you & others that read this.
Your comment is one that I was looking for. Beard balm would be a no, no to most but it works for you. That is something that I stand by and I'm glad that it's working for you.
I stopped recently. And my beard looks better. More natural. I found my beard looked greasy and crusty after using oils and balm my beard is about a year long and the longer it gets the more you realise you CAN’T tame it. it’s also much easier to wide tooth comb it when you are out when there is no product in. Also I find I’m less conscious of the dreaded wind when I’m not using product.
For me, the number 1 breakthrough in taming my beard was a brush. I use oil for the feel, but I also tend to have drier skin and hair. You just have to find what works for you.
Ive done the same thing and butter only does just fine!! The butter has all you meed. I still use oil now but tried butter only amd iy works just great for your beards health
I am a newer subscriber and I love your channel. I will be very interested in hearing about your experience with this. To be honest I have been thinking about doing the same thing. I have a fairly curly beard. Lately now that my beard is longer (over 2 inches) I noticed that my beard seems to respond better with butters than balms. I currently use Fresh Beard's and really love it. But I am very interested in Uncle Donnie's butter. I like the fact that his has castor oil.
Thank you so much for the sub and kind words. It's amazing how different products work for different people! I have heard good things about Fresh Beards but I have never used them. UD is definitely a good one and I'm a fan of castor oil too!
Lump, my man Looking forward to hearing what you think after not using fewer beard products for a time Personally - in the morning - use co-wash, beard oil, balm and mustache wax - twice a week I'll wash my beard - in the evening - use a butter for night Let me know if you need a home for that awesome nature boy comb, I'll take that off your hands for you - I know I'm a self sacrificing kind of guy
Lol I said I want using oils for the time being, not my beloved comb! Thanks for the inside look of your routine! Obviously, it's working for you. I'll definitely be dropping updates periodically. 👊🏾🙏🏾🧔🏾

I been just combing my shit out after the shower and that is it.. I am thinkin about a balm or something to tame my beard because its long enough its looking wirey. I just dont want my beard to feel greasy and what not so I am in the opposite boat. Think i may checkout a balm myself or a butter. Just want to have some shape instead of having wild ass fly aways.
There are plenty of good companies out there man. There are so many that's it's hard to chose sometimes. Good ingredients, good scent and good price and you should be fine.
Ahhh.....okay, I gotcha, I thought you weren't going to use anything, beard butter is definitely the way to go nut I still use a little oil at night for my face.
I'm a scent heavy guy, so oil is my go to. Butters and Balms commonly have less scent. Now, as far as money goes, I only buy oils from companies. I make my own unscented beard/moustache wax and butter. Much, much cheaper.
Wuzup Lump I feel ya bruh I cut down using a lot of oils and balms as well so now I’m using nothing but Scotch Porter and Maestros Classic . Using nothing but butters now. Maestros is a very good butter to used and it also conditions the beard as well. I’m like you I have entire to many products so I cut mines down to ... 2 products . Good video.💪🏾👌🏾✊🏾
Raw African shea butter and a light coat of castor oil keeps my beard moist for days. I throw the shea butter on in the shower and the oil as a final touch after a slow comb to get out the kinks. Lasts about 3 days before my beard needs replenishment. My motto "if it can't be used everywhere on my body I ain't using it" the product addiction is a straight trap. Mad money spent and you end up right back at your first love that worked in the beginning. The beard is always bigger on the other side until you don't get the same results. Stick with what works first. It very rarely gets better with "miracle" products. Beards and guns..... Subed gotta support the local homie lol.
The big thing to remember here is that people have different skin types and needs. It could be that your skin doesn’t need as much moisture protection as others. Some people will need a different combo than you, maybe they have flaky skin. Butters offer more beard hair conditioning but are to thick to get into the skin completely. Healthy skin healthy beard, no exceptions.
Agree with everything that you said except butter being too thick to get to the skin completely. If that were the case for me, I'd have some crazy beardruff but I do not.
Thanx for your opinion. I watch these videos and l get some good knowledge from people. Some are way over the top like painting a beard on your face and outlining it. Thats some funny shit to me. But to each it's own.
Imma pay attention to your results. I might do the same And I agree with what you said about the balms, it holds s little bit. But if I don't use it it's not that noticeable 😂
Balm and butter are not the same. I've never seen a balm that actually holds well that did not contain beeswax or something similar to beeswax if it's vegan. Butters typically do not contain beeswax. Are there some butters that contain beeswax? Yes, but if the maker is going for a "traditional" butter, there will barely be beeswax in the butter. Detroit Grooming is a great example of that.
Of course if I get hit up for a review, I'll test the product for like a week and get back on the butter lol. I still want to try and give ya'll ALL of the options that I can.

That's awesome! I wish I could ditch products. I cannot because they saved my beard! This is more conformation that our journey is different. Thanks for your comment.
Pretty much! I did use a growth serum for a few months along with butter. I also used oil from a company for a review for like 2 weeks. Other than that, I use butter.
Honestly, I think one needs the oil. And the only reason I say this is because it gives the beard a shine. I always use Maestro beard butter and a variety of beard oils. I also use Shea Moisture leave in conditioner every night before I go to sleep. I find this works the best. Beard balm I find to be a little extra and never use it. Beard butter is great on its own but I feel I just need a little shine and maybe its because I have light hair like Steph Curry lmao.

There is definitely a lot of truth in what you are saying. Thanks for watching and commenting, my man!
Absolutely! Using butter is a great option! I actually enjoy it for days that I’m not going out. Butter is amazing on the beard!
💯
This is a great idea brotha. I think I'm gonna try this too. Just did my night time routine but I'm only going to be using a leave in conditioner and African Shea butter. I should be fine with just this since I cowash twice a day. But again great video brotha
Dope! Thank you. African Shea Butter is awesome.
This is almost similar to what I do but instead of butter I'm pretty much strictly oil, I personally don't like the over product my beard it has to breathe at some point
I hear that bro! I used oil only for the longest time before I got introduced to all of the other products.

Been with Scotch Porter 4 years. I’ve tried other companies but always go back to what I know works for me. Keeping your beard moisturized is key, it doesn’t matter if it’s oil, balm , butter or all three at once. Do you Lump. Nice shirt by the way.✌🏽
Thanks homie! SP is dope! I don't blame you for rocking with SP and SP only.
Cool! Yeah man, I think butter is AWESOME! I always rotate so I don't know what will happen over sn extended period of time. Do you know what Company your co-worker uses?
He uses a company called Biker’s Blend Beard Co. He is neighbors with the guys who owns the company.
@@larrykerr8297 that's pretty cool. Thanks for the info.

@Damienn KNOX
Damienn, as @LumpVision said, YES!
Yes most definitely beard butter is a great way to go in my own personal opinion I’ve been using Detroit grooming and it’s great 👍

Brother Lump just saw this one. Very interesting review.
😃💯🧔🏾
You make some excellent points man. I appreciate the view, comment and sub. RESPECT!
Wassup Lump, One thing for a week I tried was Shea butter and other butters it left my skin moisturized and my beard looking healthy and had hold

Stay with oil & butter. Balm an butter are the same. Ones whipped the other was liquid before hardening.
