The era of decent tv has sadly disappeared years ago! i grew up in the eighties but would happily watch repeats and reruns of these classics over the crap thats on nowadays
Some tv comedies don't age well at all. Porridge and Only Fools and Horses have stood the test of time but the Young Ones definitely hasn't. These days there are more channels/tv stations so it's possible that a series which would not have been commissioned in the 80s for the simple reason that it's garbage, has a better chance of being commissioned these days.
St Patrick's Catholic cemetery is in Leytonstone London E11, there are a few other known people who are buried there. Stephen Lewis last lived in a care home in Wanstead East London. Everyone loved him when he was acting as Blakey on the buses. Thank you for honouring this lovely man. Great video.
St. Patrick's is East London, I've had the sad honour of arranging funerals there as an undertaker. I had no idea how huge it was (I was arranging from Essex). Thank you so much for this video. Stephen Lewis was a part of a lot of childhoods but we never know the man behind the character. Thank you Paul
I never knew he did so much, i knew him from On The Buses and Last Of The Summer Wine. Very interesting Paul thank you once again for another great video.
I remember meeting Mr Lewis on Wakefield Station some years back he cut a very forlorn figure. I told him how his character Blakey was a good part of my childhood. Its frightening really, I am now an old aged pensioner. He seemed a very humble person.
On the buses is a classic I remember Stephen Lewis in that programme Its so sad all the original cast members are no longer with us. Stephen Lewis thank you for the great memories
Blakey was always my all time favourite actor from On The Buses, what a legend! 👌 and also loved him in Last of the summer wine. He was born to be an actor. I always wished i could of got to meet him. RIP Stephen Lewis 🕊🙏❤ gone BUT NEVER EVER FORGOTTEN! Thank you for all the laughter. Thank you for the upload Paul, much Appreciated 🙏
Awww Stephen Lewis was brilliant, I loved it when he would say I hate you Butler so funny he was a fantastic comedy actor. Thank you for doing this video Paul.
😢a sad day for inspector Blake"a Steven Lewis again great actor sadly missed.knowen for on the buses being a bit of Stan and jack jokes classic comedy gold and timeless.
My mother past away in 2010 aged 88 yrs, she had been a clippy on the buses back in the 1950's. She lived in Australia having been a £10 POM back in the 60's and absolutely loved the series Especially Stephen Lewis as the Inspector. She always said it was very well researched and reminded her so much of those days on the busses. About a year before she past away I had bought her the boxed set on DVD of all 74 episodes. When ever I see anything about the series it reminds me of those days back in the 50's when I was a young lad.
ITV have over the years aired episodes and they are still as funny. My neighbour was a clipper in the 50’s and 60’s having married an Irishman who drove buses in Birmingham. Both sadly dead now
@@JohnEdwardBerry my late mother🙏had many friends whom she met during her working life and in retirement had 3 best friends. One of whom was a £10 POM to Australia This was the early 50’s but she was ‘homesick’ and returned to UK. She married and had a family but died at the age of 52 of a massive heart attack in her kitchen Many did return for whatever reason 😭😭🏴🏴❤️❤️🏴🏴🏴🙏🙏👍 👍
@joanne26 I was a wee Bern when I arrived in Sydney in 1964, my family stayed here until 1968, we moved back to England, we returned on 1986 where I've been ever since, but you can take the Pom out of England but you can't take England out of the Pom, I still mis it after being away for so long, but I do love Australia, it's a beautiful wonderful country, im so lucky to be living here.
"Oh Butler, this has made my day" Paul, this has made my day. A very much underrated actor. When he spoke out of character, his voice was completely different, quite posh and well educated. Unfortunately he was a bit typecast and couldn't show his true acting ability. Sadly missed. Thanks Stephen for the laughs. Thanks Paul for a great tribute. 👍
It's a shame actors get typecast but for the majority of the profession they can't be sure when they'll get another job so they probably have to accept typecasting with good grace.
Stephen (Blakey) Lewis. Great memories of this man, from his many On The Buses Scenes. So much laughter, the man didn't have to try to make us laugh. Still today in '23/24 year I still watch this man and still laugh the same now as I did then. Thank you so much MR LEWIS. Could never replace a man of his character and talent.
A true comedy icon very funny till the very end rip Stephen and well put together Paul thank you my favourite show he was in has to be on the buses especially the film with the Lyon on the bus scene now that was superb and very funny
He was in last of summer wine to I watched it it on drama channel when they were showing old programmes he was funny my man liked watching on the buses 🇬🇧🇫🇴
This brings back happy memories. We watched On The Buses as a family in the 70s. I was about 12 yrs old, so any innuendos went straight over my head. My Dad loved Blakeys character. Happy days. Thanks Paul another great video. Take care.
Yes I remember watching him as a young child on the bus . It was brilliant. Me and my mum used to watch it on a Sunday. Thank you for sharing that enjoyed watching you take care. Keep safe all the family drive carefully 😊👍
This one was quite emotional for me as he reminds me a lot of my dad , what a packed cemetary and what an unusual memorial on your way in, always remember watching on the buses and how they used to give ' Blakey ' the runaround loved it. Thanks Paul as usual learnt more about the man behind character .
Hi Paul what a great actor stephen Lewis was in on the buses sad that all that stared in on the buses are sadly passed away now a true classic they don’t make them like that anymore sadly fond memories as a kid growing up in the 70s watching them on the television keep them coming till next 1 cheers Paul
Hi Paul, I used to watch On The Buses the first time round when it originally came out with my family in Wimbledon, never missed an episode. The whole cast were perfect in the roles they played and the comedy was spot on .In 1972 we moved to Croydon in 1975 my dad and me were killing some time in the Whitgift Shopping Centre whilst my sister and mum went shopping and I pointed out to dad " Look there's Arthur from On The Buses". and it was, he was wearing a long trench coat fully buttoned up with a flat cap tilted forward covering his face, his hands in the side coat pockets and when he looked at us he looked down at the ground and quickly walked away. Dad smiled and laughed. Never met Stephen Lewis but I understand that at personal appearances he used to dress up as Blakey and went into character which his fans loved. Loved this video. Take Care
Stephen Lewis’s final resting place is in the same area as my Late Father-in-law. It is on reclaimed land which has been built up from the older Church Yard and is fairly high up overlooking the A12 and the Central Line. RIP Stephen, you made us all LAUGH😇
Woww he did so much more than I ever knew. He was a very talented actor still didn't realise he was I so many things. Loved on the buses and of course last of the summer wine filmed where I live in Holmfirth. I remember him in other films and TV programmes . He was extremely funny. Thanks Paul for sharing this story love from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💜 🫰
I own both "On The Buses TV Series" and the The Movies, "Don't Drink The Water TV Series", "Sparrows Can't Sing". It seems you're filming people from every DVD in my collection R.I.P. Stephen, thanks Paul. lol
I used to watch the iconic ‘on the buses’ never missed an episode as a kid. As a kid someone like Blakey’s character would be really old but he was young in his 40’s. Looking at this graveyard and I know you say central London but OH MY it’s so full - I’ve never seen one ‘as jam packed’ All my local church graveyards including my own churchyard (Roman Catholic) is going to be full up in the next 10 years and that’s with cremations, with very small headstones no room now for burials. 😀😀🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️🏴🏴🙏🙏
I actually met Stephen Lewis and Bob Grant at the back door of the New Theatre Cardiff . They were both in Panto there, I must've been 10 / 11 at the time. They both signed my Lions mask ( not sure what the Panto was , so long ago ) .They were great with us kids and gave his " i will have you Butler " catchphrase. Great childhood memories.
I remember watching on the buses with my grandparents and parents, so much laughter filled our house Thank you for doing this one Paul. R. I. P Stephen “Blakey” Lewis, may you continue to ride on the buses xx

I believe that after 'On The Buses' finished, there was a new programme planned called 'Back On The Buses'. The plan was for Stan and Jack to set up their own bus company as a rival to Blakey's bus company. For whatever reason this never came to fruition which is a real pity as it would likely have been a great follow up series and enjoyed by the many fans of 'On The Buses'.
Love your "I Think I Found It" ! 🙂 Great to see you again!👍 You don't find comedy like this now, sadly. Mine, and my Dad's favourite : Last of the Summer Wine 🤣🤣 Great viewing and Cemetery 😍 R.I.P. 🕊
Thanks paul, a lovely tribute, 🙏 I love watching on the buses, I did work at a dairy many years ago, Believe it or not I did work with a butler, and my nickname is Blakey they used to say to me, get that milk out! 😂.. ❤

He was an institution as Blakey.
The immortal line "I'll get you Butler, you see if I don't" was superbly delivered.
Absolute icon.

Grew up watching on the buses with my grandad. Loved the show. RIP Stephen ❤
It's due to Blakey I learned (at a young age) the meaning of 'Lecherous". No one makes comedy like the British. Always has been, always will be.
